I have no issue with Howard starting. I just want Bush to step up and take the SS position

The Dude

Posted by: WWIN | September 26, 2015 at 07:49 PM

I agree to a point. Elder and Burns are both really, really good corners, they were last year also... 6-7... anyways, they should start. I think Howard definitely gets love because of his commitment, but I feel like he SHOULD.

The Dude

Posted by: WWIN | September 26, 2015 at 07:51 PM

But you know THAT matters. We need Miami kids to play for Miami. Corn is wonderful, but there's no pipeline in TN.

The Dude

When I saw they put Corn at CB, I was a little skeptical because he was so dangerous with the ball in his hands in hs, then I saw them practicing and I posted here he's got NFL hips. That kid could play 4 or 5 positions at a high level. He's still dangerous with the ball. Funny it took how many injuries before the staff turned it over to him at PR?

WWIN

Plus I think it's political too because he is a miami kid and a senior.

Posted by: rgcane | September 26, 2015 at 07:48 PM

Now you talking... best thing posted today!!!

WWIN

Let me clear this up for the people playing slick dumb...

This is how it should go... as a player you go to practice everyday and put the work in to be the best, you compete to be the best, you compete to START, NOT play a lot! If you prove you're the best shouldn't you start? That's my argument!

If you don't agree with this it's probably because you're the type to pass out lollipops and go for ice cream after games win or lose.

rgcane

WWIN in my opinion I don't think so. I think how they use him puts him in the position to be looked at that way. He gets to fire blitz from the slot and he rotates out to CB in their base package too. He's our best nickel back and return punts. The problem is that Howard has been inconsistent. I want him to step up so corn doesn't get worn out by the end of the year. Plus I think it's political too because he is a miami kid and a senior.

WWIN

I usually just read and don't comment but this corn argument seems a little silly. He plays a lot.

Posted by: rgcane | September 26, 2015 at 07:07 PM

Doesn't it seem silly that he's rated the #1 DB in the nation but doesn't start? F playing a lot... how dumb does that sound???

Lurker

Those last ten seconds were WTF????

thirstybuzzardcane

Glad we don't have Tennessee's coach. That guy blew the game for them.....That had to be the worst clock management ever! Why didn't he go for 2 to make it a 2 touchdown lead. And then the defense goes prevent on a 4th and 14.....Vols deserve to lose!

So who's ranked #1 Corn or Burns? According to you these rankings mean everything except when it's time to defend Golden!

What did you prove? You showed the snaps of ONE GAME! That just proves Corn played the same amount of snaps as Howard during ONE GAME. Show the snaps from last season till now and see who played more

Like I said... if you knew what I KNOW...

SinisterCane

From CIS:

I think it's pretty good neutral opinion of AL Golden.

It's been too quiet with the Golden talk the last few days. I am used to seeing "mopes" and "slurpers" out every day going back and forth. I know I have been accused of being a slurper because I defend the staff at times, but I am not naive and realize Golden has not proven anything here. He didn't deserve to coach this season, yet he is here and that means I will root for him to do well. I am not rooting for him because I am an Al Golden fan, I am rooting for him because I'd rather be proven wrong and see the guy adapt and become a winner here rather than being right and have us get a new coach in and start over again.

I know a lot of people here think Al misses on a lot of recruits, and I agree there are some guys that leave you baffled that we didn't even offer, but I also believe that the roster we had last year and the roster we have this year are two of the best rosters we've had since 2005. They might even be the two best. Kaaya is elite and makes the offense deadly. The defense has a lot of talent throughout out, but they still aren't getting enough free reign. When we've gone aggressive we've seen the potential of this team. Look at the first 3 quarters against Nebraska when the coaching staff actually let the guys go out there and play and have fun.

Here is where I think Golden really needs to change and change right now or he should not be the head coach next year(of course he shouldn't have been this year based off his 4 seasons, but the admin here is a joke). Firstly, I hate listening to his speeches most of the time. I am happy we're 3-0 and held on to beat Nebraska and I realize the the officiating was awful and assisted Nebraska in their comeback, and the coaches made a lot of boneheaded decisions to let them have a chance, but when Al gets the team quiet and the first thing he says is give Nebraska credit, my heart sank. The team needed to be torn up at that point. Win or not, that was an awful 4th quarter by all involved and Al needed to be heated and rip everyone, not give credit to an average team that should have lost 49-17.

Following off of that, in his pregame speech he is saying the team needs to love each other, stick together, and go out their and play together. I get it, make the team feel like one big brotherhood, but he needs to be telling them to make this the worst day of the other team's lives. We don't need to give them credit, say what they're good at, tell the team to love one another. No, tell them we're going to show them they aren't as good as they think, that they made a mistake coming to Miami.

Al lacks the aggression needed in this city. I'm not going to get into his interviews and whatever he says to the media. Coaches always use coach speak and that is that. I won't buy into anything he says in an interview or post game show. From what I have seen, Al needs to get more cutthroat. We all know these players can ball out and if given the aggression, they will thrive. This is a roster that should be setting goals for the playoffs, but here we are hoping we can win the damn Coastal division.

I will give credit to the staff when they deserve it. They deserve credit for the first 3 quarters of the game, they also deserve credit for the collapse. I want to see the staff grow and become winners. Become winners and become cutthroat. That is how you win the fanbase over. I don't want to see pictures of D'Ono and get pissed off with how dumb he looks in every photo and how soft our defenses are. I want us to look at pictures of his dumb face and say "this guy looks like a dumbass Jersean, but his defenses are hard".

I tend to be more optimistic than most and I do believe coaches can grow on the job, but last season's collapse nearly kills all of my hope for the staff. Seeing the aggression last week helped me gain some back and think this staff can learn to be winners here, but the 4th quarter took a lot of it away at the same time. If we show aggression against Cinci and actually play aggressive and dominate all game, that will be a good sign, but it's still a weak team we should beat easily. It'll be a nice sign that maybe the staff is realizing the soft conservative BS doesn't work here and hopefully that will lead them to stick with it and we'll come out guns blazing and abuse FSU's piss poor offensive line and just show them we're Miami and they're going to be our ***** like it should be.

It's ACC championship or bust for Al in my opinion and for us to do that, the staff needs to learn that we're going to make everyone our ***** and show them that we will determine how the game is played each week. If we can do that, that will mean the staff finally learned and we can win. If we can't, get this staff out of town and find someone who will.

It does matter to players... you play your best players not the ones you're loyal to!

WWIN

BigWindyCane1

Canes are 3-0 and into a bye week. Canes need to get much better on the money downs and red zone. Penalties and missed assignments must be reduced. The Canes 6 minute offense also has to improve. If they do those things and stay healthy, Golden will seem like a much better coach and the Canes will win the coastal.

Go Canes

I'm not ducking anything man. You've gone off the deep end with some of your posts.

I think Corn and Burns are both superior talents with high round draft potential.

I don't know who is "better". I think they're both great players and I'm thrilled we have them.

And I could care less who starts. Maybe they think Howard excels more against the run on 1st down. Maybe they're rewarding him for his leadership in the locker room.

So what?

I posted a stat showing he played a monster number of snaps.

That is ALL that matters.

Ever since he came here.

But it's a new season and as long as we're undefeated, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. Of cause, at this point, that doesn't mean a thing. If we get through the next five games undefeated, it'll be the greatest stretch a Hurricane football team has had in more then a decade.

So we should a relax, have fun, hope for the best, and see how things shake out.

He!!, when has the beloved Golden ever been UNDER PAR at Miami??

Golden is what he is, an average major college football coach. And if the game against Nebraska hasn't made U realize that fact. Then c'est la vie!!

Again, undersize TINY So. Miss. lost by only EIGHT points in Stinkin' Lincoln this afternoon ( Their QB passes for 447 yards on the road!! ). Chit, the Bulldogs probably would have won that game on a NUETRAL field somewhere in the Northeast or on the west coast.

WWIN

After the Hurricanes dispose of lowly Cincinnati, Miami faces a nasty gauntlet of FSU, Va. Tech, Clemson and Duke. Ouch! Then there's overrated Georgia Tech in November.

WWIN

So your point is irrelevant. Plays count, not who's starting.

TheeMackJones

Elder has too MUCH of that passΓ© Hurricane NASTINESS in him and what not. So I figure Golden wants to REIGN Elder in a little bit and having him not start is one discreet method. Therefore, use Corn in the nickel/dime packages. In other words, Elder is akin to a SIXTH MAN in basketball. A starter coming off the bench, for example.

TheeMackJones

Chit, TINY Southern Miss. loses a road game by the count of 36-28. And Nebraska was a - 21 1/2 home favorite. LOL

By the way, TINY So. Miss.' sophomore QB Mullins passed for ' 447 yards ' against that Hayseed Cornhusker squad.

The kid passes for 447 yards in front of 90,000 sodbuster Hayseeds. LMFAO

By the way, lowly So. Miss. was my UNDERDOG pick of the day and the Bulldogs COVERED comfortably!!

Moral of the wacky goofy rant. Golden coached NOT to lose in the fourth-quarter!! And that was in the comfortable confines of SLS.

QB Mullins 26-41, 447 yards, 2 TD, ZERO Int.

This Fournette of LSU fame is one mother freakin' FREAK!! The man just happen to run for 244 yards against a decent Orangemen defense. Go figure.

The Canes have a lot of talent on this team. These coaches are developing future NFL players and its time for the results to show on the field.

Corn's move to corner will pay big time career wise.

Study the NFL drafts over the last several years, and review not only that but comparative salaries by position. Running backs have been drastically devalued in terms of earning potential, as well as draft position. A cornerback will make way more bank than the average NFL running bank.

Great move for the young man's NFL career as long as he continues to improve and hone his craft. Also, are people going to tell me he would have been made a CB at every school he would have gone to?

Let me just give me one example, and I don't even know if he was ever considering going to UF or not, but I'd bet you they would've made him into an offense of player at UF, Because they're desperate for offensive skill players, which would not have been as good for his future NFL potential.

Re-booting the program would be a disaster. Obviously a repeat of last season and there isn't really a choice, but anybody rooting for Ls is doing so out of personal dislike for the coaches, not the program's best interests.

You're right about the talent. I was unsure coming into the season what we had, but we do have players on both sides of the ball. Considering the schedule, we could play in a major bowl game. Tighten up 3rd downs and RZ offense, keep tinkering with the pass D and maybe consider putting somebody else in to coach ST, and it's not outlandish to see a 1 loss season. Of course that means no more losses to teams who will be home for the holidays.

If the above happens we should be looking at an epic signing day. And if that happens, sky's the limit for the next few years, which I think is slightly more preferable than starting from scratch with some second tier coach trying to find his way.

--------------------------------------------

No one, I repeat, NO ONE said that he was not good with the ball in his hands, nor did anyone say he wouldn't be a good RB/WR.

What was said was, he is way better at DB than he would be at RB/WR.

There's no way he'd be perceived as the #1 player at RB/WR right now, like he is at CB, grading out as the best in the country.

That's been my argument the entire time. Bucking the perception he'd be BETTER at RB than DB, which clearly he would not be, because he wouldn't be ahead of Fournette, Chubb, Cook, etc.

Go Canes

Don't think anyone is saying he's not good with the ball. His punt returns and high school stats prove that.

Just think it's pretty tough to be a better RB than DB if you're being considered the best one in the country right now.

Like I said last night, don't really care. Just incredibly happy Golden struck out on all those other players, had no choice, then Corn made himself into the beast he's become, all by himself, by complete luck because our staff has no clue what was best for him, with no coaching, at all.

Me too Epi.

We have such a good young talented squad, the thought of this staff failing and having to start over makes me ill.

We've had a few minutes of lapses in the last two games, but the overall product has looked absolutely dominant at times.

If this staff can get this team to play with that kind of focus and avoid self inflicted mistakes, we can and will have a hell of a season.

There is no doubt this can be a springboard to a great resurgence if that happens, because the 16 class is LOADED.

1mg of Epi

VERY interesting:

Defensive Play Calling

Miami’s defense was much more even on the play calling for the defensive line playing 2 gap or 1 gap technique compared to the FAU game. Miami played 1 gap technique on 15 snaps, averaging 6.1 yards on these runs. Nebraska averaged 3.5 yards on the 10 snaps Miami 2 gapped.

For formations, Miami lined up in a 3-4 on 31 snaps, allowing 3.7 yards on these plays. Miami played 19 snaps in a 4-3, allowing 4.8 yards per. Miami played nickel on 32 snaps allowing 8.1 ypp. Miami blitzed on 20 pass plays, with Nebraska averaging 8.2 on these plays. When rushing 3 or 4, Miami averaged giving up 4.8 yards on 37 pass attempts.

Posted by: 30CINCO | September 25, 2015 at 01:56 PM

Interesting. I was keeping track of the 3-4 vs 4-3... For a little while at least... And noticed much more 3-4. the D was improved thru 3 quarters. Besides the alignments the other change noticed was much better tackling.

If they can fix the pass D this could be a great season. Knocking the ball out Of the receivers hands with a big hit is a great way to negate bad coverage but against Better, bigger receivers won't be as effective.

I'm rooting for D'no. I would like nothing more than to see him succeed.
