NEW BLOG IS UP!

The Dude

Ohio_Cane or UpNorthCane,

Where are you? I need a soccer explanation. Any soccer people.

The Dude

^^^ reminds me of my favorite blitz as a player and coach, right over the center.

VA Cane

I do not like the 3 4 set.....you have no Woolfork type in there, we get no congestion at the point of attack and on the 2 guys touching the ball...the center and QB.....these next games against good competition will be critical......and pressure congestion sacks tackling containment to's linebacker flow directly to the ball man coverage....will be very important. Unfortunately, NoDPa just does not do this, our D is my biggest concern. I never played D in my career playing or coaching by being passive backing off being nice and soft and letting my opponent punch me in the mouth. I just cannot endorse AlPas and NoDPas style of D.....its so wrong and off base. They are not good D coaches, always my biggest issue. Good guys bad defensive coaches.

1mg of Epi

Thanks for the bday wishes guys....

Dude... We've had only one game to measure, but there's been improvement. Coley had a better game plan than we've seen, and D'no used the fronts we've been looking for. Not to mention better tackling. There are problems, obviously, but they took a Step in the right direction.

You're right to be skeptical, four years of the same garbage has made us all cynics. But we didn't even expect the changes we got, so who knows what may be in store. Emphasis on may.

VA Cane

So many of these ESPN people are jerks....they have their agenda and spouse it. Greenberg says stupid shit always wanting to rank things as the best...when there is no clear cut best. Buster Olney Tim Kirtchen rating and ranking people by stupid formulas not facts....Olney given dumbass Bryce Harper a pass for loafing....those guys are boneheads....Skip Bayless and Stephen A Smith.....phucking idiots....his and hers morons....Colin Cowherd....they got rid of him...jerk....and the worst....Kenny Mayne....and Lebatard and Papi.....horrible!

The Dude

Posted by: VA Cane | September 28, 2015 at 09:57 AM

They say the best coaches are the guys that get teams to improve as the year goes on... 6-7 last year sure says a lot about Al if that holds true. But as a student of history I've learned history is only that, it's only a record of what's happened and doesn't mean very much as to what will happen.

Side note, you know how sometimes a color guy doing the game will use the yellow lines on tv during a replay to explain an excellent play call on offense or defense? I can't remember the last time some one did that for a Miami coach...

The Dude

Oh and about all the draft picks and stuff. Those guys are always wrong this early, NFL teams aren't even evaluating yet. There's a lot more NFL talent on this team than they listed. Burns, Elder, Bush, both Jenkins, Grace, AQM, McCord are all draftable players in the first 4 rounds. They still have 9 games to put some good stuff on tape, especially the pass rush guys that just need a little more coaching up.

VA Cane

Thanks Dude,

I see your points, and l am trying to see if we progress. I want more as well, and there is only one way to see if this important season comes to fruition......play the games and see. I do expect to beat Cincy.....VT, Clemson, FSU, GT will be tough games. Don't know how good any of them are, but all will be a challenge for us. Play the games, give the guys dynamic sets and plays, learn from mistakes, keep teaching coaching developing, stay on the fundamentals, make adjustments and learn as a coach as, well.....be positive aggressive teach we ...give it all you got,.....Apocalypse Now!
Time will tell!

The Dude

^^^ I meant to add that our conference isn't world beaters this year so we may catch a few teams being as sloppy as us. FSU looks beatable but they did last year too. There's a chance. Maybe as the stakes get higher the team gets focused? But my concern is they're being taught the wrong things. As of now, I'll take as many wins as possible and an ACC CG appearance with a bowl win so that we can have some steam going into 2016 looking for a bid at the playoffs.

The Dude

First off happy birthday to the Shark of Canespace (VA) and reigning Canespace Rookie of the Year (Epi).

Posted by: 1mg of Epi | September 28, 2015 at 05:33 AM

I don't want to give the impression that I'm upset we're 3-0... BUT... I don't see the improvements you're referring to. I see a sloppy football team and coming from a coaching background, (although not anything extraordinary) I know that what I'm seeing has to be fixed or the other shoe WILL drop, only a matter of time. I just don't see it with Al, the kind of obsession with excellence a coach needs to win at the highest levels. Now, Pete Carroll didn't fit the typical mold either and that guy had monster teams so there's hope. Al becoming excellent would be thr best case scenario for everyone involved with Miami football and there's absolutely no doubt about it. Miami would get to cash in on the risk they took when they hired a coach that really wasn't ready. However I don't believe for a second that if Al does get fired, Miami's in for a massive overhaul. I have given Al credit, despite what my detractors will say, on multiple occasions for his quality work in making Miami a real football program again. This thing was really broken when he took over from Randy who really was in over his head.

4-0 and we will be in the Top 25, 5-0 and we will be in the top 12-15 with Kaaya becoming a household name.

Not worried about our ranking now as much as I marvel at the ineptitude and outright bias towards a certain conference that's shown when they are released.

The other Coley needs to tighten up His late game playcalling, especially in the RZ. On that INT, WTH do you run a post-corner to Dobard against Quarters Coverage...

CaneRock

Coley will be alright, He had a nice return before when He pulled that hammy. Offensively, seems to me He still needs to put time in into reading coverage, Him & Kaaya need to see the same thing. Berrios is good at reading coverages and sitting in the holes.

I look forward to BB return, he is a good kid who gives his best and adds a lot to the offense. Yes he dropped a td last year....everyone does....got a friend who cannot let it go...move on. While SC may be faster....he is a jester on the sideline in a cast, his head is not right and he is gun shy. We need to add positive aspects...BB is that...BK12 will be glad to have him.

VA Cane

Thanks GC and Epi 1,

I will take a delayed present until Thursday; a Canes victory. I appreciate the kind thoughts; you guys are great Canes supporters.....bottom line I think that's what matters. I really want this year to be a turning point for all us....just keep winning the best solution and all will play out.

Happy Birthday Epi,.
I agree with you. I expect big things, and so far AlPa and kids have delivered. Not prefect, no murderers row but winning is winning and it matters. I cannot pick schedule as its made years in advance. Just play it and win. Learn adjust improve with time. Use every moment as a teaching moment as well as a learning moment for yourself. Keep being aggressive attack and don't quit. I take the wins and play them one at a time.

Just curious but where is this success you speak of? 3-0 against Bethune, an FAU team that played Miami way too close for way too long and a Nebraska team that rallied late. I'll take 3-0, but lets be real here, the hull is leaking.

Posted by: The Dude | September 27, 2015 at 09:57 PM

Well... 3-0 is 3-0, can only play whose on the the schedule. So we've had exactly as much success as we possibly could. The bottom line...It's more fun to believe we have a chance at a good season than it is to sit around waiting for the other shoe to drop. It's been a long time since we had hope around here.

At the end of last season we haters had a list of things we wanted Al to do, and he's done them; 3/4, 1 gap and a more wide open offense. The coaching staff learned something, which we thought impossible. Maybe they'll keep surprising us.

The truth is I want Al to succeed because I don't think the program can afford another reboot. But if we see a continuation of the last 4 seasons once we get into the meat of the schedule, I will spit out the kool Aid.

I'm not worried about the realities of the situation right now, I'm just going to enjoy being undefeated while I can.

Barry:

### Former UM coach Butch Davis said by phone it’s “uncomfortable” seeing the banners flying overheard before Hurricanes games, the ones calling on UM to fire Al Golden and hire him. Does he feel for Golden? “I feel for all coaches,” Davis said. “It's an unbelievably difficult job and it gets harder all the time.”

So he is flattered? “I don't look at it like that,” said Davis, who has been out of coaching since the end of 2010. “You would be remiss if you didn't say you're always appreciative that people recognize you did the job, you're a good person, that you and your family made a difference in the community. It's a nice feeling to know people respected what you did and felt like you did a good job.”

Let’s make this clear: The banners will have no impact on Golden’s job security, and if anything is having a corrosive effect, according to a player. “It’s going to kill us in recruiting!” former All-American Bennie Blades said, indicating it gives recruits a bad impression of the fan base.

By the way, Laurence Levy, the superfan who shows up at sporting events all over the country wearing a Marlins jersey, told WINZ he will pay for a banner or blimp to be flown over Sun Life Stadium during a future game with the message “Keep Golden. Class, not trash.”

I think they need to change the rule about linemen being 3 yards down the field...too much BS for offense....they made hand use easier for linemen too....makes holding easier. Perhaps the most important rule change might be to go back to the old rule that says defenders can do whatever until the ball is in the air....would certainly even things out.

Al Michaels is really good....never overtalks, lets you watch adds good info....and Collinsworth is good too....they do a good job together....jmo

From Wikipedia....

Chancellor has played five seasons for Seattle, and was recognized for a break-out 2011 season by being sent to the 2012 Pro Bowl. Chancellor is a member of the Legion of Boom and is known for his hard hits.

Chancellor has said that he attempts to emulate the former Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor, and said, "[He was a] big safety, the prototype guy for the position. I'm a big safety, too, and I've just always wanted to be just like him. I don't necessarily say I can be Sean Taylor before it's over, but I think I can be just as good."Also, before games and when he needs motivation, Kam says he watches the highlights of Sean Taylor on YouTube. He says it motivates him to do better, strive for greater things, and takes him to a darker place which makes him play better.

He has a great admiration for ST26....and Jack Tatum....JT32.....I was so blessed to have learned as a young man from JT32 as my godfather coached in Oakland....I loved Jack; he really took a shine to me...even came to see me play in college. BBK loves both of these guys and thats his game. I took that interest in BBK because JT32 took an interest in me....its a real nice feeling to see your young men succeed....and know you were able to just be there to help in a small but loving caring way. I put all i have into my guys; I love doing it and its very special and important to me. I really believe god gave me this mission, and I cherish it dearly. JMO

Too many cooks in the kitchen of the Dolphins organizational structure.

Give me one good GM, that's strong and knowledgeable, and let him hire a good coach and Dir of player personnel. The rest will take care of itself. If you're going to run the organization by committee, then everyone needs to be on the same page, and I don't see that. Internally, I've heard there are too many rivalries and competing interests. This has been an ongoing problem for years.

There are too many crossing lines in the Dolphins org chart. Therefore, managerially, they're all over the place, and strong leadership is lacking.

Thirsty, Bam Bam Cam is a real person, very smart calculating. I know he competes to be the best he thinks he is one of the premier players at his position...you have to...and he is. I have known him since Soph in hs....met at clinics and camps....I love him, kind of a pop figure.....he has made it all by himself....nothing to do with me....but I listen and talk positive. Think agent kind of behind this agenda....its his job. I just said last week do not deprive yourself and be sad from missing the teammates and game you love so much. I am proud I am his friend, great person I care for.

TonyCane...we should've drafted Russell Wilson in 2012. He was CLEARLY a better QB & leader than Tannehill. Hell, even Mike Sherman, Tannehill's College HC, later His OC in the NFL, had em' at WR till His Jr. year...but He campaigned for this kid to be the franchise QB?!

I'm sorry, I don't see it in Tannehill, I didn't like the "deer in the HLs" look He had today.

VA Cane

It is unique that offense....you have to be disciplined and play assignment football, cannot rush in got to be under control. We have dome plays from it...and I also run some single wing. Why? Cause people forget these attacks. That also why I go 46 base and man on man bump coverage. ...people cannot handle it.

I just got text from my good friend Bam Bam Cam Chancellor.....I have a great relationship with him, got him to VT....UM should have recruited him. I advised him go back play $ will take care of itself.....he send me a big hug.....and a big hit....we joke like that.....he said it felt great to be out there today....he is a special young man to me, glad I have been able to be his friend.

2007: Dolphins desperately need a quarterback. Brady Quinn has fallen to them. But wait...we can get John Beck later. And trade for the oft-concussed Trent Greene! So let's draft Ted Ginn to be our Devin Hester!

That QB draft class was HORRIBLE! Drafting Brady Quinn would've just been drafting the best of the worst!
Posted by: CaneRock | September 27, 2015 at 08:00 PM

Indeed, but the point was that QB was a desperate need for Miami. And a QB that most people thought would be a first round draft choice was ignored by Miami when he fell to them.

Here's another example of Dolphin ineptitude. Between 2004 and 2012 Miami spent a first rounder and FIVE second rounders on quarterbacks:

2004: A.J. Feeley (lasted one season)
2006: Dante Culpepper (lasted one season)
2007: John Beck (lasted two seasons)
2008: Chad Henner (lasted four seasons)
2009: Pat White (one season)
2012: Ryan Tannehill

CaneRock

Coke...I hear ya'. Amongst the many UM players that they passed on, not drafting Jimmy Graham irked me. I remember that DUM@$$ GM we had saying Graham was lazy, SMFH! We suck now, but I'm happy to be rid of that pathetic, crony filled Parcells regime..and I think that crook Parcells is still collecting checks from the Dolphins.

Remember when GT blew us out in 2008, I don't think GT had a kid that scored that was ranked higher than a 2 or 3*. Stars don't mean crap if you don't know who has the ball till they're 20 yds. downfield.

Posted by: CaneRock | September 27, 2015 at 07:52 PM

I'll give Shannon a mulligan for that as it was the first year going against that goofy offense. A lot of teams had issues going against Georgia Tech in the first year of Johnson's tenure. Shannon was 2-0 against them afterwards. And Golden is 3-1.

360Cane

You guys are funny. We haven't even won a coastal and you're worried something catastrophic would happen if we got a new coach. Yeah. Ok. Lol

We're already at the bottom. We were 6-7 last year. Lol. Too funny. Wow how times have changed...

CaneRock

A good defensive gameplan is more important than a QB and an offense. Look at some of the teams that lost yesterday...Oregon,Auburn, & GT...all those teams run misdirection based offenses with "less talented" players.

Remember when GT blew us out in 2008, I don't think GT had a kid that scored that was ranked higher than a 2 or 3*. Stars don't mean crap if you don't know who has the ball till they're 20 yds. downfield.

My Dolphins suck azz because of personel decisions like this...

They traded down to draft a underachieving DT from Oklahoma in the 2nd rd, instead of Denzel Perryman. Even though they needed a LB baaad, DP was the best available and they had already signed Suh.

If that ain't stupid, I don't know what is. Lol

Posted by: CoCane | September 27, 2015 at 07:40 PM

That joins a rich tradition of not drafting the best player available or ignoring obvious needs....

2001: Dolphins need a QB and Drew Brees is right there. But wait, they have a ProBowl tandem of cornerbacks in Surtain and Madison. But wait, we play in the same conference as Peyton Manning. So we definitely need to draft another cornerback in the first round! Enter Jamar Fletcher.

2003: Dolphins desperately need another wide receiver to plug in next to Chambers. But wait, we have good linebacker corp. We need Eddie Moore as our first pick!

2007: Dolphins desperately need a quarterback. Brady Quinn has fallen to them. But wait...we can get John Beck later. And trade for the oft-concussed Trent Greene! So let's draft Ted Ginn to be our Devin Hester!

2013: Dolphins desperately need a wide receiver after trading away Brandon Marshall. But wait, we have a cast of possession receivers to move our offense! No need to go that route. But wait...we can trade up to the #3 pick with minimal cost! Cool! Let's draft to the defensive line!

As for the Phins hiring Philbin, I was like "who?" kinda like Hocutt hiring Golden. I am so glad they spent so much money fixing the O line and Defense. The phins are playing disjointed. I don't think Tanny is that bad, his O-line has been a sieve since he has been there.

Posted by: CGNC | September 27, 2015 at 07:10 PM

I agree. And the Dolphins would probably be best served by using their first, second, and third round picks next year on their non-existent offensive line. That said, two problems:

1) They have a lot of money tied up already in a non-TD producing position.

2) They've spent A LOT of resources drafting offensive linemen in the last 15 years:

Miami Dolphins offensive Line picks since 2000:
2000: (1) Todd Wade (2nd Rd)
2001: (2) Shawn Draper (6th), Brandon Winey (6th Rd)
2002: (1) Seth McKinney (3rd Rd)
2003: (2) Wade Smith (3rd Rd), Taylor Whitley (3rd Rd)
2004: (3) V Carey (1st) R Hadnot (6th Rd), Pape (7th)
2005: (1) Anthony Alabai (5th Rd)
2006: (1) Joseph Toledo (6th Rd)
2007: (2) Samson Satele (2nd Rd), Drew Mormino (6th)
2008: (3) Jake Long (1st), Murphy (4th), Thomas (6th)
2009: (1) Andrew Gardner (6th)
2010: (1) John Jerry (3rd)
2011: (1) Mike Pouncey (1st)
2012: (1) Jonathan Martin (2nd)
2013: (1) Dallas Thomas (3rd)
2014: (2) Ja'Wuan James (1st), Billy Turner(3rd)
2015: (1) Jamil Douglas (4th)

So in the last five seasons alone, Miami has spent the following on the OL:

1st Round: 2
2nd Round: 1
3rd Round: 3
4th Round: 2

Compare that to the New England Patriots

2000: (2) Adrian Clemm (2nd), Greg Randle (4th)
2001: (2) Matt Lyght (2nd), Kenyatta Jones (4th)
2002: None
2003: (1) Dan Koppen (5th)
2004: None
2005: (2) Logan Mankins (1st Rd), Nick Kazcur (3rd)
2006: (2) Ryan O'Callaghan (5th), Stevenson (6th)
2007: (2) Clint Oldenburg (5th), Mike Elgin (7th Rd)
2008: None
2009: (4) Vollmer (2nd) , Ornberger (4th), Bussey (5th), Ingram (6th)
2010: (2) Ted Larson (6th Rd), Thomas Welch (7th)
2011: (2) Nate Solder (1st Rd), M Cannon (5th)
2012: None
2013: None
2014: Bryan Stork (4th), Cameron Fleming (4th), Jon Halapio (6th)
2015: Tre' Jackson (4th), Shaq Mason (4th)

So in the same time period, New England takes:

1st Round: None
2nd Round: None
3rd Round: None
4th Round: 4
6th Round: 1

thirstybuzzardcane

This is exactly why polls should come out after the 4th week. No way UFag should be ranked just because they beat a badly coached Vols team. Tennessee lost that game. What a joke for Oregon to be still ranked. They lost by almost 40 points. These polls are a joke!!!!

Being ranked means something. Maybe not this year, but next year for PO positioning. Good teams know how to handle failure, as well as success.

I'm ok with canes being unranked. Win on thursday and we'll be top 25 heading into fsu, just like the networks want.

The Bears and Dolphins are both pretty bad, Ravens as well. I am thrilled at Oaklands start, we are not bad....lotta promise for us. Oregon got crushed still ranked, TN gave FL that game. Football is a crazy game.

CGNC

As for the Phins hiring Philbin, I was like "who?" kinda like Hocutt hiring Golden. I am so glad they spent so much money fixing the O line and Defense. The phins are playing disjointed. I don't think Tanny is that bad, his O-line has been a sieve since he has been there.

CGNC

CGNC,
Honestly the way we cover sometimes....and play D....I think you could play one corner, and I could play the other. ....and I turn 57 tomorrow! We put WWIN at DT, Soup at rush end, 1epi at safety, CR and Dude st LB, Thee Mack at other DE......we might lead the nation in D! LOL!

@DavidFurones90: #Canes commits this week: DE Jaquwan Nelson 10 tkls, 4 TFL, 3 sacks, 2 FF. OL Jawaan Taylor named player of the game in his contest.

VA Cane

I hatexseeung seasoned pros false start. You know the snap count and still jump. So much lack of discipline....this is an important fundamental guys got to know it.

2-2 OREGON STILL RANKED, FLORIDA#23 CANES STILL AROUND 27

I honestly don't see how Philbin survives this game. This has been an embarrassment of epic proportions.

But who the hell do you replace him with from this staff?

Problem with Miami was their defense started to go south in 1986, just a few years after drafting him. So they spent most of their efforts from 1987-1994 drafting for defense. By the time they tried focusing on upgrading Marinos arsenal they were well into the downside of his career.

Yup, and JJ couldn't put together an offense for crap.

USAFCane

Philbin should have been fired 2 seasons ago. The only miami based coach possibly worse than golden. Tied up serious cash in tannehill, tthough I still think he can be good.

Dolphins have been horrible since Marino.....how could you have him as a QB and not build around him a winner? I wish Oakland would have drafted him if he had gone to Oakland they had great talent minus a real qb.....they might have won 3 or 4 SBS....sure he partied in college.....knew good friend of suitemate.....he loved weed and powder.....but who cares? Great great qb. Hated to see him toil in Miami. Al Davis loved renegades ....was too involved in lawsuit vs NFL missed getting Dano.....I know with the talent they had add Marino....scary!

TonyCane...the Dolphins should've hired Todd Bowles when they had the chance. How Philbin was a better candidate than Him at the time...IDK.

But there are people out there who I believe love to wallow in misery, and secretly and not so secretly, hope we lose. That's how they're built. I'm not built that way. It's a choice.

LMAO! Maaaaaan, take that sad sappy @$$ speech to Happy Space. If misery means I don't care, you're right...WIN ANYWAY.

I've never heard of any issues that you have with the coaches. But fair enough

I'm not a Golden hater... I hope he can get things turned around for him, the program, the players, and his family. I'm not wishing for him to get fired. But when he does something wrong ima call him on it and I'll also give him his due credit for when he does good, that's just keeping it real. So far I would say he's doing a decent job for 2015

TonyCane

Sad thing is, Miami will rally to win 5 out of their last 8 and pick around 14. But seriously, this is a horribly run franchise whose run of futility is similar to Green Bay and Tampa Bay in the 70s and 80s, Detroit (always), and Arizona through most of their tenure. It's a poorly run, absurdly managed team. Anyone could have looked at Wannstedt's player personnel moves in Chicago and see that these would not translate to Miami. Or spending a valuable second round draft choice on a wildcat quarterback.

TonyCane

Philbin is gone.

TonyCane

I can't believe they drafted a potential superstar player in Devante Parker and use Rishard Matthews instead. I think we need to go back to Dave Wannstedt....we can draft offensive linemen in rounds 1-3 each year, and ultimately have an offense that consists of ten offensive linemen and one really big, beefy "quarterback". All he'll do is do QB sneaks.

But seriously, why draft Parker and not use him? If he's that injured, then put him on the inactive list or IR. If he can play, PLAY HIM.

Go Canes

I can't believe I spent my hard earned money to sit here and watch this disaster of a team.

TonyCane

Dolphins should do what they did in 1991 and trade their first round selection. If you are going to have DeVante Parker on your roster and not use him, why not trade him for another offensive lineman?

USAFCane

why do I get the feeling all is not well with the Dolphins?
