Miami Player Postgame Quotes
Michael Badgley, K/P
On the win…“It’s a big win, but I’ve always said to myself ‘take this win with a 24-hour rule. Celebrate as much as you want and then on to the next.’ We’ve got a bye week coming up and it’s time to focus on Cincinnati. Have this great win, see your mistakes and continue to be great out there. Everything is going to happen. It’s going to be fun.”
On Head Coach Al Golden giving him the game winning kick…“Him and I go back and fourth all the time. Obviously I’ll defend that guy to the world and back. He’s the greatest coach in college football and there is no question about it.”
Corn Elder, DB
On interception in overtime…“I didn’t have a receiver to my side, so I was basically just playing the field. I see them scramble and I just took off deep. He threw it and it just came right to me.”
On his performance since he has been focusing only on football instead of basketball and football…
“Just focusing on football I’ve gotten stronger, faster and my technique has gotten better.”
Artie Burns, DB
On what changed in the fourth quarter when Nebraska was making a comeback…“We just weren’t doing our job. Guys were out of coverage, not in their gap, so they were making explosive plays. That’s why you come to meetings the next day to get everything corrected.”
On losing Jamal Carter and Deon Bush for the first half of the next game…“You won’t see a drop off. I feel like we have one of the best secondaries. We’ve got Rayshawn Jenkins and Dallas Crawford back there. We’ve got Jaquan Johnson, he’s going to step up and be able to come in the game and make some plays.”
Rashawn Scott, WR
On finally being able to play…“It feels great now that the coaches could put me in the situation. I have a great quarterback to throw it to me. The receivers are doing their jobs. It feels good.”
On when Nebraska caught up…“I’m not disappointed because it’s adversity. I don’t really care because we won.”

I'm told the injury is to one @CanesFootball player and not two as some have reported.

Does everyone really want to play this game?

PRAYERS!
As a parent of a football player, that's some scary stuff. Hopefully they're just taking precautionary measures.
Posted by: CaneRock | September 23, 2015 at 12:37 PM
Reports now say it was only one player.
Bad but better news than before
Posted by: Go Canes | September 23, 2015 at 12:38 PM
Some on twitter reporting it was Gayot. No official word from reporters or anything yet.

To clear up rumors, UM has confirmed ONE player transported from practice to hospital after apparent collison. Being called precautionary
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | September 23, 2015 at 12:43 PM
So here's what we know:
TWO players collided head to head.
ONE player airlifted.
I've never heard of a "precautionary airlift", but that's what it's being called.
Some saying it's LB Marques Gayot

Being called precautionary
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | September 23, 2015 at 12:43 PM
If so...GOOD!
Posted by: CaneRock | September 23, 2015 at 12:44 PM
It's not even clear if there was an airlift. The helicopter was there, but there was also an ambulance.
Posted by: Lurker | September 23, 2015 at 12:50 PM
Again, WHY the conflicting reports??
What happened to MEDIA integrity!!
Where did all the Edward R. Murrow's, Woodward's and Bernstein's go?!!

Manny said the player was airlifted.

That's true. Miami didn't state the player was airlifted. Others have assumed that because it landed on the field.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | September 23, 2015 at 12:54 PM
From Manny, though: A University of Miami football player was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital Wednesday morning after being injured in practice, a Miami Herald source has confirmed.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | September 23, 2015 at 12:55 PM
Adding to the speculation and rumor mill.
Golden CANCELED his weekly ACC presser, so it's must be a SERIOUS injury. Otherwise, why cancel a presser IF the injury is not of a severe pressing nature.

Soup you are spot on.....you are a very observant man who has STUDIED the game for a long time. You know the game, you tell it like it is, you don't add a lot of fluff.......you are a great analyst of this game and the Canes....in short you would be an incredible coach; why? REALITY!!!!!!! What a concept eh?
There are those who do not see it that way.....they do not look at reality.
Thats my first approach.....face facts deal in reality teach develop execute fundamentals over and over, combine the individual talent and skills with a team of angry aggressive passionate fundamentally sound players, give them dynamic schemes sets and plays, develop a we not me attitude, learn and teach new concepts constantly....with a foundation firmly in fundamentals, make adjustments, manage people games time.....all while everyone gives 110%.....Apocalypse Now Death or victory....what happens....you WIN!!!!
If I make any statements, they are from what I do with my guys....they are never aimed at you; you KNOW this game!!
Go Coach Soup Go Canes!!!!!1
Posted by: VA Cane | September 23, 2015 at 01:31 PM
I feel, well hope, the D we saw through the first 50+ minutes better indicate who we are.
Agreed....and with dedication and hard work, we are, as you said, getting better depth, and it is getter brighter.
I see much better teamwork, great attitudes....these guys are enjoying going out on that field and playing. Thats a nod to coaching and development of players...mentally and physically!!!
Go Canes Beat UC!!!!!

If it's Gayot that got hurt, then our linebackers took a huge hit yet again. We were not very good at linebacker to begin with!
Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | September 23, 2015 at 02:10 PM
I don't care too much about linebacker depth right now, that's for later. We still don't know exactly what happened and what the player condition is.

Matt Porter (I know, SOUP, U hate him):
Injured Hurricanes player airlifted to hospital

CORAL GABLES — A University of Miami football player was airlifted to a local hospital shortly before noon Wednesday following an injury suffered at practice.
In a statement, UM said the player was “transported to the hospital for precautionary reasons.”
Several sources close to the situation identified the player as sophomore linebacker Marques Gayot, a Boynton Beach native who played at Park Vista High.
Without identifying him, several UM sources, including Athletic Director Blake James, expressed confidence to the Post the injured player was OK and fully responsive. James said the player’s family has been notified of the situation.
An eyewitness told the Post a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue helicopter landed on UM’s Greentree Practice Field before noon. An ambulance arrived first and, per protocol, would have made the call for the trauma helicopter.
Gayot, 6-foot-1 and 222 pounds, played safety as a freshman. Playing weak-side linebacker this fall, he has 7 tackles, 2.5 for loss, and 1.5 sacks.
The situation came to light when coach Al Golden did not make his scheduled appearance on the ACC’s weekly coaches teleconference.
Hurricanes players and coaches are not scheduled to meet with the media in person until Sunday. UM (3-0) has a bye this week and visits Cincinnati (2-1) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1 (ESPN).
The last UM player known to be airlifted to a hospital for an injury suffered during competition was receiver Herb Waters, who suffered a strained neck last Nov. 23 at Virginia. Waters, now a senior, has 194 yards on 11 receptions this year.

Worst thing I go through, over the years is my guys getting hurt. Yes I teach them the correct and right ways, but I push them to be tough, hit hard and often. When they get hurt, and they have, I feel very bad. I am always with them at hospital doctor whatever; its on me. Every great once in a while I think I will get out of this game. You can and will get hurt; I did, my Dad Uncle Godfather did....you never know what will happen. I pray good things for our players at UM, hope all involved will be ok.
These kinds of things really make you think.
Posted by: VA Cane | September 23, 2015 at 02:24 PM
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah all these defensive problems can be fixed but in what decade are we talking about. Soup that wasn't u standing next to the anti-cane, DENO was it?
We wouldn't have depth issues at LB, if we would pay more attention to it in recruiting, year to year.
Cincy is going to throw the ball all over the field, so AL U better find some pass rushers, Pronto.

Sometimes those type of traumas are a result of the most mundane things. Remember being a practice one time, wet conditions, and our DE came around the edge, slipped, and ran His head into a players leg. I didn't even see it, you wouldn't even think a player could get hurt like that, scary stuff. He ended up being alright though, TG!

My son suffered an apparent head/neck injury in a game. Was running the ball, got tackled, and while fighting for yardage, a defender horse-collared em' from the front, and pulled His head toward the ground...I'll never forget that sound. He ended up being alright also.
