Totally agree! That UNC team would if been special if their whole team was playing that year. Butch has proven he can evaluate talent and turn programs around.....That's a fact!!!

You said it tbc. That's why a Butch hire gives everyone so much belief. All other hires besides a Saban and Meyer are just gambles. Butch is a sure thing IMO because of what he did here already. It's destiny that he should be able to finish the job.

The before and after FSU records are incredible.

This game is so huge for this program for so many reasons.

Very nice input by all.....I think we have a HC and staff here! There are some great qualities listed by all....very impressive thoughts.

Got to turn it around Saturday what better scenario than vs FSU. We need to do a lot of things right....not much wiggle room

Jsy

Has golden done anything ever during his career that would suggest he turns things around or gets a win? I just don't see it. It's sad to admit but I see another embarrassment on national tv.

Jsy

Doing the same thing over and over expecting different results that's insanity right.... In that sense thinking golden beats fsu = insanity

What is so different this time that the result will change?

laquinton

Golden won't change a damn thing, we ALL know this. I'll never say Miami hope for Miami to lose but I'm not dumb. I can almost hear the post game interview, they haven't lost a game in 3 straight years, Golsons a leader, didn't give up too many big plays, it all starts with me, I'll get this fixed, we have been hearing it for 5 years. Hopefully Miami pulls off the upset, I cant stand Jalen Ramsey.. hate that kid

Jsy

I hate Ramsey bc he plays more like a vintage Miami player with swag than anyone on our team . It's sickening

^^^^^ judging by AG's comments heading into FSU, there's neither quiet nor loud confidence. I hate to say it but I think Al thinks we have no chance.

I'm honestly not sure what anyone expects the coaches to say about this week.

The players and coaches know what's at stake in this game.

Got to be hyped but focused on what they have to do to get out of there with a win.

That was classic jsy. Nothing to see here folks, just a fumbling, bumbling idiot masquerading as a D-coordinator. More incompetence from the head of the defensive staff. Pitiful!

Yea.. Kinda hard to get pumped right now. I'm sure come Saturday that'll change, but theres just so much wrong w the program.

1mg of Epi

Terrance mentioned teaching ability in his comment. That's important. A coach can have a brilliant Xs &Os mind and know technique etc but if he can't translate it for the players it's meaningless.

I think this may be one of Dnos issues. His players look confused. Often. A good teacher would pair down the playbook, and present something a "amateur" athlete can absorb. His 6 pages of D plays is an example. If he can't remember it, how does he expect the players to?

And yes, I LOLed when I wrote "amateur"

UVA AND PITT AT HOME LAST YEAR

Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said RB Dalvin Cook (hamstring) is still day to day. Cook hasn't practiced yet, but Fisher said Cook wouldn't have to practice to be able to play. FSU hosts Miami on Saturday.

UVA AND PITT AT HOME LAST YEARPosted by: canezilla | October 07, 2015 at 06:22 AM

All losses to UVA. Al Golden has saved Mike London's job at least twice. It's a team the Canes should consistently and soundly beat from a talent perspective, but the Canes still lose.

I dunno CR, I dunno.

They really haven't handled PR very well these last couple years. BJs statements after last season were insulting to anybody who actually watched the team play. Al hiding for a week after the season only to resurface on a pay site, trying to set expectations based on a recruiting class 2 years out... Weak.

Good article. Its obvious the D is the worst, but I think the program as a whole is in better shape than when Shannon was here. Golden has done plenty of good off the field with recruiting, relationships with local coaches and schools, player sizes (although some are playing to big imo) etc. But he is to stubborn, and maybe to nice, to make the changes that need to be made to save his job and this program. I do find it alarming that someone with the record he has, has not fired a single person from his staff... ever.

The next coach will have plenty to work with. I think the biggest thing will be re-programming the players. They have become to soft under Golden. Some of these players only lost 1-2 games their entire high school career, they are use to winning. Not those same players are not upset or frustrated after loses. That is a problem.

CaneRock

Listening to Herm Edwards, He says it's NOT about playing for a HC, it's about playing for YOURSELF!

GoldenHomer

On Tuesday, when discussing the UM defense and the upcoming game at Florida State, Howard, a senior, answered questions about the loss to Cincinnati and the fan wrath aimed at coach Al Golden and his assistants.

“You’ve got to put things behind you,'' Howard said. "You’ve got to take the good with the bad. The loss did hurt. We gave it our all and didn’t come out on top. The only thing you can do is move forward to the next opponent. You can’t dwell on it. If you dwell on it, you’re going to get punished by the next team. You’ve got to keep your head up, and just keep rolling over. It’s life. Things happen. It is what it is.”

^^^^ Our seniors should not be this calm about an embarrassing loss. This is borderline Lance Legget with his "they have scholarship players too" comment. So they gave it "their all" against Cincy? They should be pissed. This is an example of what I mean, we are to soft under Golden. To use to losing.

Sarasota 'cane

This a classic trap game for FSU. They're ranked, they're not scoring a lot of points, Cook is out, the QB is struggling, and UM is supposed to lose. I like it!
Go 'canes! Hate happens!

Sounds more like a classic Golden trap. Team struggling on offense magically puts it together against Miami. Second or third string RB has a career day etc.

I will say this, in the Golden era I have only seen this team (players not Golden) get hype/ready for two games. Last year against FSU and the year before against Florida. So there is hope in that.

I'd go with FSU last year. Al Golden is not an awful coach per se - in fact, he got a lot of things right: He had his team ready to fight, with an aggressive mindset, and well prepared for what the Seminoles were doing.
But eventually, the inability to finish the deal, to not get sidetracked by the fact that we were leading by a big margin and his failure to counter the adjustments by the other team lost the game for us.

At the end of the day, whatever good things you might see, he'll find ways not to win.
