Junior cornerback Artie Burns was named ACC Defensive Back of the Week following the Miami Hurricanes’ 30-20 victory over Virginia Tech Saturday afternoon at Sun Life Stadium.
Burns received the award after he tallied a career-high two interceptions, including one late in the fourth quarter, which helped seal the Hurricanes win over the Hokies.
Burns currently leads the team with five interceptions on the year. His five picks are the most by a Hurricane since Sean Taylor had 10 in 2003. In addition, Burns’ five interceptions ranks fifth nationally.
The Hurricanes return home this weekend as they welcome sixth-ranked Clemson to Sun Life Stadium. Kickoff is set for Noon and will be aired nationally on ABC.

It comes off as defending when you and Lurker claim to only care about the team and not the coaches, but then y'all turn around and defend everything... if you don't care why defend? It shouldn't matter... why not let it go?
You made up those Whoppers yesterday that you hit me wit! And you try to manipulate Butch's stats to make Golden comparisons. IJS

Butch vs. Golden....Sigh
The only reason CANEZ fans are able to throw up the U is due to Butch's CANEZ
The only reason your able to brag about 28 1st drafts picks... Get ready....because of Butch.
To marginalize Butch's bowls victories when Golden is 0 and fuckin'3 just fucking all out stupid. Anybody still defending Golden or comparing him to Butch as equals simply has no shame or gag reflex.

I'm not satisfied with anything that's happened. Nor was I happy when we struggled for 5 brutal years with Butch.
But I won't start saying already it's because Clemson started Clemsoning if we win.
I'll just be happy we won, as any Canes fan should be.
Posted by: Go Canes | October 21, 2015 at 03:26 PM
Like I've said before, just about every game is almost a single elimination game for Golden, and he's got to know it. He can't absorb hardly any more losses and get the coastal.
Makes for great drama each game. A win is on the line, a career is on the line.
I'm not feeling sorry for him, he put himself in that position, but it does make it interesting to see what happens.
Here's hoping for a win against a superior Clemson team. But not for him, but for the players.

It's like this Go Canes...
You say you don't bash Butch but you leave out most of his accomplishments. Only giving him props for his last year. Ignoring the fact that he had 2 top 20 and 2 top 15 seasons. Pretending like those seasons were the same levels of failure as Folden. Folden has not had 1 season as good as Butch's 95, 96, 98 or 99 teams.
You can't act like Butch did as bad as Folden, then say you're not bashing him. Especially when all of the results contradict your comparisons. You bash Butch indirectly by defending Folden with inaccurate results. A possum could see that...
You know Folden falls short of Butch. So you should stop putting their tenures on the same levels of success or failure.
Everytime you do, I will expose you with the facts. The proof is in the records, rankings and bowl wins.
Stop insulting Butch's legacy. It's ignorant, sad and embarrassing for someone with your assumed intellegence...

The only thing you get right is the casual fans were just as angry with Butch as they are Folden. But those that knew football knew it would take at least a couple of seasons for the "U" to rebuild after losing 20-30 scholarships. The fact that you were mad back then and defend Folden today, shows you didn't know football then and still don't know football now... ijs
Posted by: CoCane | October 21, 2015 at 06:40 PM
One thing about Butch, is His severely scholarship depleted teams didn't fold down the stretch. Again, Butch's record after losing to FSU 5 years in a row...39-6.

I don't know who was responsible, it wasn't James, and I know it has been talked about but who in their right mind Ok'd Golden being under contract until Feb 20!!!! Saban and Meyer get those deals! Talk about killing yourself.
The goal is the coastal and if not reached I think BJ will be looking for every reason to keep AG on. Most likely out of James hands?
WHile I don't think anyone truly pulls against the kids and hopes the Canes lose, it will take an on field failure of epic proportions for AG to be fired IMO. This is why there is debate about losing and being a Cane fan right now.

You're correct, he won't have to win the coastal to say. He's done exactly what he was asked to so far.

Fuente!:
"With little talent, Fuente also developed walk-ons into key players. His top three receivers this season — Anthony Miller, Mose Frazier and Phil Mayhue — all are former walk-ons. Another, Alan Cross, holds the record for most touchdown receptions (13) by a Memphis tight end."
^^^^^^^^^^ But Al needs 85 scholarship players to win the ACCC.

Before you keep twisting and turning my words I'll be as clear as I can for you. This way you can't turn them around anymore.
I loved Butch as our coach. i believed in him and stood by him when a giant majority of this fan base wanted his ass fired. I knew we were playing with both hands tied behind our backs and the athletes we were putting out there were not what I had seen in the preceding decade.
I saw the same exact thing the first two years Golden was here. When you have AJ Highsmith and Kacy Rogers getting run, you don't have the players to compete. When your third string RB is starting at safety the next year, again you aren't beating anyone good.
Over the last two seasons I've seen a great improvement in the quality and quantity of athletes we are bringing in. I thought the run we went on mid season last year, completely dominating Duke,Cincy, UNC and V Tech, then playing FSU heads up down to the wire was the turning point I was hoping for. That was the team I thought we would be going forward.
I was wrong. Golden lost his team for the UVA and Pitt games and the season, and his margin for error went south.
This season I expected a maturation in Kaaya that would lead us to a better place. But yet again, our second half offensive struggles doomed us in Cincy and FSU was another game we were in a position to win but couldn't put together "the drive".
That is squarely on him and I've said here plenty of times those struggles will be the reason he'll lose his job if he doesn't do something dramatic the rest or.
But back to Butch.
Your assertion that only "casual fans" wanted him gone is a joke. Casual fans don't hire planes with banners asking for a coach's head. That action was unheard of back then and it happened multiple times down here.
I sat in that Orange Bowl at rock bottom more times than I care to remember. Games with 20,000 fans, most of them booing their asses off, calling Butch every name in the book.
From the Penn State game in the pouring rain where we lost on a semi hail mary to the shellackings FSU and others gave us, I was there. And while Butch's wins in bowl games were nice, all fans talked about was getting beaten down by 40 and even 50 points by the Noles, Hokies and Orange. No one gave a crap about beating GT in some random bowl game. No one back then would call any of those wins "big". Golden having zero, five or 10 doesn't change that.
So no my point yesterday wasn't to marginalize his accomplishments or make comparisons as coaches. There is no comparison in that department. Butch's final two years were incredible and in my opinion never to be duplicated again anywhere, including here.
My point was to point out there was a 5 year shit storm this program lived through after the NCAA mess. Yes Butch's sanctions were more concrete, but they had an end date in sight from day one and there was light at the end of the tunnel.
This most recent mess was far more difficult to quantify. We spent nearly three years under the microscope with no ending known. We took scholarship reductions in preparation for the hammer coming down.
Thankfully the NCAA stepped on it's own pecker and we were saved what would have amounted to the living death penalty they desperately wanted to drop on us. But to say the damage was minimal is absurd. This thing took a huge toll on this program.
If i could snap my fingers and switch coaches today, I would do it in a heartbeat. But I can't and Butch isn't coming back here.
So I hope we get this thing going down the stretch, win out, and continue to build from there.
If that doesn't happened, and his track record indicates it won't, then we start over yet again, but from a much better position than when Randy left.

BTW, Highsmith & Rodgers played for us when we were 7-0 and ranked #7, the last time we had any semblance of relevance. But you were probably too busy rooting for Shannon's players to fail to notice.
And trust me, if Golden's not here next year for whatever reason, and we have an exodus of players declaring for the NFLD like 2011, this program will be in the SAME shape as what Shannon left.
