With unprecedented excitement surrounding the 2015-16 University of Miami men’s basketball team, Hurricane fans have responded in record numbers, already setting a new program high for most season tickets sold.
Fewer than 1,000 seats are still available for sale, after accounting for seats sold as season tickets plus those held for current UM students and team use.
"When we first arrived at Miami, we were told it would be tough to sell out the BankUnited Center and it would be hard to build a basketball fan base," said Head Coach Jim Larrañaga. "But in four short years, we have set all kinds of records with both sellout crowds and student attendance."
Season ticket pricing for remaining seats start at $249, following a sellout in the $130 sections. Click here to view remaining availability and pricing or call 1-800-GO-CANES to order by phone.
Due to record season ticket sales, seats may not be available on a single-game basis."It's exciting to see our fans and the local community rally around our men's basketball team," said Jason Layton, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Sales & Communications.
"With fewer than 1,000 seats remaining for sale, a month before we've played our first game, we could very reasonably sell out each of our ACC games if not the entire season."
The 17-game home schedule opens on Nov. 13 and includes a non-conference matchup with Florida on Dec. 8 plus ACC contests against Duke, Syracuse, Louisville, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and two-time defending ACC Regular Season Champion, Virginia.
Ranked No. 21 in the latest CBS Sports Preseason Top-25 poll, the Hurricanes return the core lineup from a squad that advanced to the championship game of the 2015 NIT, including seniors Angel Rodriguez, Tonye Jekiri and Sheldon McClellan, who was among the 20 players named to the watch list for the 2016 Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award.
"This is going to be a fun year and we are excited to hear that our fans are getting behind this team even before the games begin by purchasing season tickets in huge numbers," Larrañaga said. "Our players and coaches are working extremely hard to take Miami basketball to the next level."
Whoever the coach is, retaining this kid has to be priority 1, 2, 3 and 4.
@DavidFurones90: Jack Allison's HS coach Dave Marino tells me Allison was disappointed and him sticking depends on new coach and whether team retains Coley.

Randy's downfall was his personality and inablitly to attract quality assistant coaches. I believe comparing them is apples to oranges. Venables has the total resume you look for in a coordinator ready to make the next step. Could you say the same for Randy? Or Coker? HC is more than just X's and O's. It's about how to get through to 100 18-22 year olds and your assistant coaches. It's scheme, personality, relationship building, trust, talent evaluation, committment, etc. The list goes on and on. Randy or Coker had very few on that list in my opinion so it does an injustice to compare.

Agree on Chud. Been out of the college game a long, long time.
Think everyone would be more than fine with Butch. But if not him, I'll take Smart over any of the other names.
Going to be a crazy 45 days!

Go Canes
I think we'll know who the next coach is by Saturday. I just have a hunch that they want to have this in the bag asap.
My last hunch was that Golden would be in the bag by Sunday!

This hire HAS TO BE sooner than later, which is why I don't think any current HC will get the job here. They can't speak about it until they're fired or the season is over.
Fuente, Herman, Pagano etc are out, IMO, only because we can't wait for their seasons to be over.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | October 26, 2015 at 04:07 PM
I'll be honest...i don't care who we hire as long as he brings the program back to the winning tradition we fans expect. Can i get an AMEN!! ?

I have a good friend that spoke with Gruden last night.
He's been talking to the BOT since late last night.
No lie. It's gonna happen. I think it will snowball over the next several days and we'll get an announcement on Friday.

Yes, Butch was seen looking through binoculars into Gruden's house this afternoon. Trying to size up the competition.

DeeRob at CIS:
Butch Davis and Tom Herman (possiblities)
Im all the way out here at Ft. Hood, Texas where Im stationed, and I ran into a guy with UM stickers all over his car...So i go to speak and it was a high ranking official in the military who graduated from UM but i cant say his name for Security reasons.. but we had a converasation about the Head Coaching Vacancy and he said he heard from a person within UM he still in contact with that Tom Herman is at towards the top of the list and Butch Davis is creeping up slowly because alot of people want him to be considered.... its just what he heard so im passing along that tid bit of info.. GO Canes!

Paul is dead, but Elvis has just left the building. lol
Posted by: VfB_Cane | October 26, 2015 at 04:37 PM
Either I missed responses, or it didn't get answered, so I'll ask again...
Can we afford to wait for a coach who's currently employed and not being fired any time soon? ie: Herman, Fuente, Pagano, etc.
They can't speak to UM until their season is over, right? We need a coach hired ASAP, right?
It's almost November and recruiting season is getting shorter. I'm very aware that one recruiting class wouldn't make up for a coaching miss again, but still, there's very good options available now.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | October 26, 2015 at 04:41 PM
I would like to be considered for the Miami HC job.
First day on the job I'll replace the band with Jam Pony Express DJ's
Posted by: SinisterCane | October 26, 2015 at 04:47 PM
UM can talk/negotiate with a coach's agent behind the scenes.
It would be ideal to have a name as early as possible, but not mandatory.
A coach can say he is leaving and say he will coach their teams bowl game or even leave before the bowl season begins. Both scenarios have happened.

It's master plans like these that I suspect are symptomatic of the reason for the problems you and I have had in the past between us on here during the former rain of error. Back to the lab I would suggest.

Refresh my memory. When did I say anything about a lock?
Before Saturday nobody was expecting a mid season firing because losing almost 60-0 was inconceivable.
Posted by: Lurker | October 26, 2015 at 04:54 PM
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | October 26, 2015 at 04:41 PM
Can they, sure. But why would they. Assuming Butch isn't the guy why not go lock up Schiano and call it a day?
Both Butch and Schiano want the job now. Crowder just made a great point. Would Mario be considered for this job if he didn't have Miami ties? They all said no. Crowder just broke down the ALA coaching tree and they all felt that Mario was the 8th best coach on the team.
Posted by: Sarasota 'cane | October 26, 2015 at 04:55 PM
But for real. Gruden is in the picture.
Posted by: Lurker | October 26, 2015 at 04:56 PM
Minus the defense, that sounds like Golden. Dorsett, Walford, Duke, etc to compare to "developing studs". Golden had 7 guys drafted last year, so he put a bunch of guys in the NFL too.
Really? Nooooooo way....
Golden isnt even a real coach when you start talking about Butch....those guys above are nice players....they have to be....they do play....but read the names.....of the greats....not even close!
1. they got to the NFL on their own ability and drive.....they learned nothing here...from AlPa NoDPa....no way!
2 Those cats would never have been on the 2001-2003 teams.....not even close to being good enough.....they would have been sitting in the stands watching....no room for them on those teams!
Just read the article about that team....they ARE the greatest of all time.....hands down...
and we do have people here who say they were there and loved it....they must have been Ray Charles Stevie Wonder and Jose Feliciano....blind as shit.....to continually defend the product since 2003.....

Paul is dead, but Elvis has just left the building. lol.....
Hers another clue for you all the walrus was Paul....Glass Onion The White Album....btw...a glass onion is used to view the inside of a coffin.....hmmmmmmmmm lets look inside the coffin that is our program.....its dead right now!!!!!
Posted by: Va Cane | October 26, 2015 at 05:03 PM
I hope the bot is not stupid enough.to see the intellegence in Butch putting that team together...it doesnt matter how much you know or how good you coach if you cant pick the most talented players..the team wanted clappy to coach because they knew he wouldnt change the program ..they did not need to be coached lol they gave clappy two championships one was cheated
Posted by: miamicane | October 26, 2015 at 05:06 PM
Shannon: And when you look back on it, those guys weren't the most highly-recruited players. They weren't high on the rating charts, they just wanted to WIN!
Soldinger: I always told (high school) kids 'If you want to see how good you are, come to Miami. Because the kids we recruit at Miami love to play ball. If somebody else is promising you the chance to start, and you want to go start, go there. I'm not promising you a starting spot. There are a lot of good athletes here. You're going to see just how good you are.'
Amen to both of them....they know. Randy could have been a savior knowing what he knew......he went totally in the opposite direction.....it was aching under Clappy....dying under Onion.....and died an awful death under AlPa.....so sad......

I called it after the CINN game. I did state that he might be allowed to finish the year for buyout reasons, but I clearly stated that he could not survive losses to FSU and Clemson and that a decision would be made after the Clemson game.
Posted by: Sarasota 'cane | October 26, 2015 at 05:07 PM
Good for you. I don't think he would have been fired had we lost by a field goal to Clemson. After the season, yes, no doubt. As it is, key members of the BOT were so passed, they forced Blake's hand according to several sources.

Long article....but damn worth the time to read I looked at it twice....watch the videos.....read the words and names.....there is not a player at this school who could play on those teams.....Kaaya could he reminds me a lot of KD11.....watch ol Ken crank that ball up....miss seeing that.....the action the dynamics of the schemes....O, D, ST, watch the line block....the tight coverage....the defenders turning to blockers on TO's......
Show it to those ignorant stuffed shirt over paid high and mighty ass kissing liberals on that BOT.....let them see the facts...how dare they long to return to those days....they were never there nor did they care....Blake James talking about a black eye...the Board, DS, the ADs and the damn fools they hired caused this death.....AlPa couldnt even imagine playing or coaching at that level....at least Clappy and Onion were there and knew about it.....I bet AlPa and NoDPa have 4 hour hard ons (from the viagra commercials) just wishing they could imagine playing at that level
This is football.....this is what I have coached for years and preach all the time....its real if you want to work for it....it aint in no folder or phamplet ....its on the field and in mens hearts!!!!
