With unprecedented excitement surrounding the 2015-16 University of Miami men’s basketball team, Hurricane fans have responded in record numbers, already setting a new program high for most season tickets sold.
Fewer than 1,000 seats are still available for sale, after accounting for seats sold as season tickets plus those held for current UM students and team use.
"When we first arrived at Miami, we were told it would be tough to sell out the BankUnited Center and it would be hard to build a basketball fan base," said Head Coach Jim Larrañaga. "But in four short years, we have set all kinds of records with both sellout crowds and student attendance."
Season ticket pricing for remaining seats start at $249, following a sellout in the $130 sections. Click here to view remaining availability and pricing or call 1-800-GO-CANES to order by phone.
Due to record season ticket sales, seats may not be available on a single-game basis."It's exciting to see our fans and the local community rally around our men's basketball team," said Jason Layton, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Sales & Communications.
"With fewer than 1,000 seats remaining for sale, a month before we've played our first game, we could very reasonably sell out each of our ACC games if not the entire season."
The 17-game home schedule opens on Nov. 13 and includes a non-conference matchup with Florida on Dec. 8 plus ACC contests against Duke, Syracuse, Louisville, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and two-time defending ACC Regular Season Champion, Virginia.
Ranked No. 21 in the latest CBS Sports Preseason Top-25 poll, the Hurricanes return the core lineup from a squad that advanced to the championship game of the 2015 NIT, including seniors Angel Rodriguez, Tonye Jekiri and Sheldon McClellan, who was among the 20 players named to the watch list for the 2016 Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award.
"This is going to be a fun year and we are excited to hear that our fans are getting behind this team even before the games begin by purchasing season tickets in huge numbers," Larrañaga said. "Our players and coaches are working extremely hard to take Miami basketball to the next level."

Hey, you were in front of this debacle from the jump. No one will testify to that more on here than me and we're founding 12%ers on here together so I can understand your POV in not throwing in a towel on an argument you've won decisively. But now is not the time to rehash this garbage with the losers who are still trying to strain viable genetic material from a buried failure of a body of non-work for a peanut paycheck from an AD on his way to the unemployment line with a bunch of other crooks still lurking around robbing every last penny they can before they're turfed. You'll see a lot more BS going forward because the moderation on here is lip service at best and in reality is there to assist in the waving of pom poms stuck up some troll's Sandusky weekend retreat, but just use your smarts to pick out that bullshit and scroll right past it because if you do, there's still nuggets of good blogging to be sifted through the dung of that other shit. Remember the mantra of 58-0 at home Ray;
"Crickets."
That will get you through the coming days and losses.

Good article on why Butch should be the guy:

Ugh;
@RapSheet: During a rough day for #Chargers, some rougher injury news: 2nd rd LB Denzel Perryman is feared to have torn his pec, I’m told. MRI today.
Posted by: Go Canes | October 26, 2015 at 12:56 PM
I love the fact that Butch is the first one out of the gate with a desire to coach the team. The school will need permission to to talk to most of the remaining guys except for Schiano.
And I'm not sure why so many here hate Schiano. His schtick, not unlike Saban, may not play well in the NFL but shouldn't be an issue at the college level. Both Butch and Schiano are disciplinarian's who don't allow the inmates to run the asylum.

"Basically, to quote Donald Trump, there's only one guy who can "Make Miami Great Again." That man is Butch Davis. And frankly, he's the only guy Miami should consider."
Posted by: Sarasota 'cane | October 26, 2015 at 01:04 PM
Which leads me to this question: If Davis entered Miami now, with no NCAA issues and a full allotment of scholarships, how do you think he'd do? Frankly I think he'd kill it. To be blunt, I think he'd have a National Championship contender within just a few years.
Posted by: Sarasota 'cane | October 26, 2015 at 01:06 PM
Lebatard and Stugotz talked a bunch about Butch making a lot of sense.

I think we play in the ACC CG next year, if Kaaya stays, could win it. I think he kills recruiting. Some 5s, some 4s, some 3s and all talented. Guy is already making a list for staff hires... guy wants this so bad. He's hungry.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | October 26, 2015 at 01:10 PM
Those were quotes fro the article that Ohio posted. I should've cited that. That article was awesome. Again Butch is the first out of the gate and only he and Schiano can be approached without permission. That's a clear advantage for both candidates if the BOT is smart and wants to get their new guy on the recruiting trail by November.

He got an NFL team into the playoffs and UNC's defense was great, not good. The O was close and on O he was developing studs everywhere, WR, TE, RB and TE. He put a bunch of guys in the NFL at UNC. A bunch.

Minus the defense, that sounds like Golden. Dorsett, Walford, Duke, etc to compare to "developing studs". Golden had 7 guys drafted last year, so he put a bunch of guys in the NFL too.
I'm not defending Al, or condemning Butch. I'm just saying it's not as cut and dry "Butch or no one" as a lot are making it out to be.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | October 26, 2015 at 01:22 PM
I, personally, would've hired Butch yesterday afternoon. That's just me, though. The school has to vet every candidate and do thorough research. They can't hire another Golden, and they know it.

UNC's defense was UM circa 2000 before the NCAA dropped the hammer. They were poised to contend for a title IMO. It's funny when people point to his record that year and not acknowledge what he had actually assembled on the field.

It's not "Butch or no one" to me, it's "Butch is the best candidate available". I'll roll with any of the other top notch guys that are popping up, but like you I would love to see what Butch could do if given the opportunity.

He'd be an SEC carpetbagger. As soon as he established his local recruiting ties he'd bolt for the first SEC job available IMO. He's probably a better fit for South Carolina anyway.
Posted by: Sarasota 'cane | October 26, 2015 at 01:28 PM
Sota, that may very well be true. But we have to look no further that FSU to see what a talented assistant from the SEC can do.

Now, I don't think Ed Reed would be the best to start his coaching career as a HC at UM, but holy shit at least make him DB coach lol
He'd be 10000000000 times better than Paul Williams.

Is anyone really Butch or no one? Haven't seen that sentiment. Bottom line: we can't do worse than what we have had over the past few years. Don't worry about the perfect hire, make a good one and we will improve.
Posted by: j.w. | October 26, 2015 at 01:37 PM
Yeah the ex-players should start at the bottom like everyone else. Dorsey and Randy are great examples.
Speaking of Shannon, would anyone have an issue with Butch bringing Randy in to run the defense?

Kids in SoFlo already know who Smart is. If we hire Him, that'll sew up commitments from kids like Shaq. And I'm also intrigued by His potential recruiting footprint on in the South region, particularly the Gulf Coast...and He's from Valdosta, lotta talent in that area.

As the day wears on the people who think Butch is a strong possibility and a viable candidate are beginning to drown out the "they'll never hire him" crowd.
Not just on this blog either. The former player's as well as the local and national pundits are all in lock step that Butch is the best candidate and was also cleared of any wrongdoing.
It hasn't even been 24 hours yet and his candidacy is looking more and more like the best case scenario. The BOT is reading the same info we are so many of them may be coming around as well.
If they brought him in for an interview I think he could easily assuage the powers that be that he could turn the product on the field around quickly as well as maintain discipline on and off the field.
It's a no-Brainerd IMO.

Though nobody in position of authority has ruled out Davis, two Board of Trustees members said they would be surprised if Davis, 63, is considered because of the way he left North Carolina, amid an academic scandal. Even though he wasn’t directly implicated by the NCAA, many believe Davis was tarnished and he hasn’t found a job since. One trustee said discussion of Davis usually elicits an eye roll among UM officials.

Posted by: WWIN | October 26, 2015 at 02:26 PM
[Miami] is a relatively small, private school in a market where support and interest is always going to be fickle. You play in a pro stadium that is nearly hour away from campus and too big to fill unless it’s just a massive game. And from a budget standpoint, Miami operates financially more as a “have-not” than a “have” within the ACC.
By that alone, you can pretty much cross any coach making $3 million or more off the list. Barring an administrative about-face from the way Miami has operated recently, this is going to be more of a bargain-basement type of hire than a big splash.

Well if Jimmy show interest in the for the job the process would have started yesterday and he left for Dallas...Godilox interviewed for the PSU job even tho he promised not to seek other openings and no one called for his firing... and yet Butch is not allowed to take a more lucrative job? I guess these bots did not start out in the bottom of their profession and leave a job to get to their current position...God forbid they have a history of quitting a job for a better position...very hypocritical

Venables should be on the top of the list! ACC guy, proven coordinator at a top school, D is always stout, they recruit the crap out of FL, young, and fiery. Don't need an "up and coming coach from a small school." Give me a proven coordinator who is a good recruiter at a big time school any day!

Read the whole post before commenting. It's not just the bloggers, it's the local and national news pundits as well as former coaches and players. Don't cherry pick my posts to support your position. The Butch Davis candidacy for HC is a snowball rolling downhill. Butch Davis is 10x more likely to be UM's next coach than he was last night and it hasn't even been 24 hours yet. There's no telling how much more support he can garner in the next 24.
Posted by: Sarasota 'cane | October 26, 2015 at 02:34 PM
So we settle for a bargain coach who if he succeeds is gonna want more money or hes gone..i mean you pay him now or in two years or he is a bust once again..in which you hired him against the outcry of a coach who actually wants to be here for all the right reasons and who has a history of loading up on NFL players. What happened to common sense? If we had it we would not have endured Folden and paid him millions to leave as the worse coach in history...
