Seven reserves combined for 35 points Saturday to help No. 21 Miami beat Charlotte 88-60 Saturday.
The Hurricanes (7-1) raced to a 40-10 lead after 16 minutes. The 49ers (1-7) lost their fourth straight.
Sheldon McClellan, Miami's leading scorer this season, did not start because of a nagging lower extremity injury that limited his practice time this week. He had eight points and five assists in 18 minutes off the bench.
Hurricanes reserves shot 13 for 24 (51 percent). The team shot 54 percent from the field, and went 23 for 27 (85 percent) from the free throw line.
Miami is shooting 78 percent from the line this season.
The Hurricanes' only loss came at home against Northeastern a week ago, and they were determined not to be upset again. Instead they won by at least 24 points for the fourth time.
Ja'Quan Newton led Miami with 14 points and six assists in 26 minutes. Davon Reed added 12, and Tonye Jekiri had eight points and 10 rebounds.
Joseph Uchebo led Charlotte with 12 points. The rest of the 49ers combined to miss their first 22 shots.
The Hurricanes went ahead 37-10 before going 8½ minutes without a field goal, missing nine consecutive shots.
MIAMI POSTGAME NOTES
- Miami opened the game with its third starting lineup of the season: Angel Rodriguez, Ja’Quan Newton, Davon Reed, Kamari Murphy and Tonye Jekiri. Sheldon McClellan wasn’t in the starting lineup due to a lower extremity injury.
- Against Charlotte, nine players scored, marking the eighth-straight game with seven-or-more players scoring. Miami has eight players score once, nine four times and 10 once.
- Miami notched 46 first-half points, the fifth time this season the Canes scored 40+ points in the first stanza.
- The Canes dished out 19 assists as a team against the 49ers, just short of the season-best of 20 against Mississippi State in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.
- Head coach Jim Larrañaga has a 568-384 overall record in his 32nd season as a head coach. He is 98-50 in his fifth season at the University of Miami, with a 41-29 mark in ACC play.
Yeah baby.

At this point, this has to be the absolute best-case scenario for Miami. Our class might be ranked #23 at present, but we are unlikely to lose anyone else and stand a strong chance to add some serious, quality players between now and February. Compare that to when Golden was hired, when we were down to perhaps 2 players committed.
Avoiding taking a hit on a recruiting class when a coaching change takes place is a HUGE win for Miami. Never in my wildest dreams did I think we could do this, but we are. This will pay big dividends over the next four years.

Good morning all, nice to be a UM Cane again....at least it feels good....think old Mark will do good. Again I wanted Butch, but things happen for a reason I guess.
We played fantastic lights out in the SB.....yes we played a school....good school....from the right side o de tracks......we just working class heroes ya know!!!!!! They had fancy unis, big crowd, a small band section....thats how it works for some....great horns man!!!!!!
I wanted to do something special....a little defiance to administration of the school Association small reminder a jab!!!....since we had a culture of wanting to win a little too much....never heard such....and to the league in general for allowing a coach to ask me to take my MLB out of a playoff game in the run to the SB...I said no of course!!!!
We came out to "Black To Comm" by the MC5......a driving hard gritty apocalyptic instrumental aggressive anthem from the 60s hardest band ever.....and my assistants got each kid a black glove for their left hand surprise surprise.....thats me a lefty.....to show their support for my efforts, aggression and wanting to win.I swear it was like the fatigues...but we won!!!!!
There was a little chatter....one of their assistants said to us...under his breath....I would need 3 or 4 kids like my MLB to stop them.....LOL all 25 of mine are like him...but we said nothing we hit!!!!!!!!
We crushed them....80 yd punt return that was perfect....65 yard bomb.....about 240 yards on the ground.....power ball in the cold!!!!!
My D was brutal.....yes we KO'd thew qb in the second series......run that spread MFcker....see if you stop my mighty 46 and 4/4 stack.....we came at them from every angle.....I mean relentless pursuit....we really got great hits on the WRs....cause the qb was throwing from his AZZ...til he got bombed!!!!! 2nd qb took a beating too....ran other way all day!!! We had 3 picks 2 fumble recoveries...and NOT a single penalty.
so our playoff run was 34-0 28-0 18-0 28-0....pretty damn impressive huh?....My 2 big OTs carried me off .....after a dunking of Gatorade....it was like tv....I know it sounds selfish and self centered....never really happpened all these years.....but I let them do it because its was what they felt.....its about them not me.....we did our thanks to Our Father parents fans....and I told them my Canespace was behind me so often....thank you folks so much.....it was touching to a 57 year old guy who has known football all his life....baby pic at hospital has a ball.....I did shed a couple....cause my guys mean so much to me....We took the SB trophy...and the administration and league people were there and I was like my godfathers employer....the maverick Al Davis...whom I knew....and I felt him and my Dad and Lombardi in my heart.....and as I accepted with my wonderful kids surrounding me....I held it up....and grinning like the Cheshire Cat.....I yelled "Apocalypse Now Football....Just win Baby!".....and then we said "Life Family School Football...in that Order"......you never win too much....ever...and God is good all the time!!!
I gave it to the Prez....and said "its yours to add to the trophy case....7 in 9 years Stallion.....sorry we won so much!"....
now they have reconsidered, and said they finally understand what my message was all along....winning in everything as often as possible....is a good way to look at life.....Ya Think?
So they said bygones be bygones will you stay....and I told them I had turned it over to my right hand guy who had stood with me 10 years at this school......and I would not go back on my word; I told them I expect my friend to be the man. He is a wonderful guy.....backed me every aspect...I love this cat; he will be so successful....because of himself and his ways.
It was something....and still feels good!!!!!

Are We Still Talking about things in the Past. Come On. When we start Winning Again, then let's Yalk. This is 2015, not the 80's, 90's and 2001. Let's see what happens from this day forward. Please fans of Butch Davis, I Love him too, but he's from the Past and We are living in the Now. It Won't take Much, but We Need Solid Offensive and Defensive Lineman, Linebackers, Cornerbacks and a Strong Defensive Coordinator, then We Back.

I am guessing that Steve Spurrier's sudden retirement before the season ended is due to health issues though I have not read anything about that.

LMFAO! @ "are We Still Talking about things in the Past"! But dude ain't gotta problem with Richt saying He wants to run our old Miami defense...4-3/Cover-2. Richt know what time it is.
Posted by: CaneRock | December 06, 2015 at 02:33 PM
Hey guys, one week since our last game and I miss football already.
Congrats to VA Cane for going out a winner and in style, that's the Hurricane way to do it.
And finally, it's never too late to teach an old dog new tricks. Today I ran my first Half Marathon and finished in 1:57. Lost a lot of weight during preparation and had a thorough medical check up with great results. I'm blessed to be in very good health well into my 40s.
As much as we talk and hear about gun violence, drugs, inner city crime, terrorism and war - heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the US (and pretty much every other western country), accounting for 1 in every 4 deaths, and affecting significantly more men than women.
So if you want to live a long and healthy life, listen to Soup's mantra: Go Outside and Play!

Wouldn't be surprised if Richt goes after this guy:

Hope all works out......I wanted the coaching situation to go my way, but that is not what matters. We have a good coach, and I will back him in this new leaf we turn over. Just win Baby.....got to give the man a chance to do his thing and coach his way. someone gave me a chance 36 years ago and it turned out good. Still feel great today after a wonderful SB win......was a nice feeling!
