Malcolm Brogdon had 20 points and London Perrantes scored all 13 of his in the second half as No. 13 Virginia ended a two-game losing streak with a 66-58 victory over No. 8 Miami on Tuesday night.
Anthony Gill added 15 points for the Cavaliers (13-3, 2-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), who used an 11-2 run in the second half to turn a 43-41 deficit into a 52-45 lead with 7 1-2 minutes to go and never trailed again.
Angel Rodriguez had 17 points and Sheldon McClellan added 13 for Miami (13-2, 2-1), which had a seven-game winning streak snapped.
The Hurricanes closed within 59-56 on Rodriguez's driving basket with 2:20 to play, but Miami didn't score again until Rodriguez hit two free throws with 29 seconds left. In the meantime, Perrantes hit a runner in the lane with 1:05 to play, Gill added a free throw and Darius Thompson made two free throws for Virginia.
Perrantes, who didn't score until 15:42 remained, sparked the go-ahead run with a 3-pointer, followed with a driving shot that banked in and then added two free throws. After Rodriguez scored for Miami, Mike Tobey scored on a hook, disturbed a layup at the other end and Brogdon's free throws made it 54-45.
Tobey finished with 12 points and seven rebounds for Virginia, and Gill grabbed eight rebounds.
Tobey's putback with 4:35 left in the first half sparked a 10-4 run for the Cavaliers, with Tobey scoring eight points. The burst gave the Cavaliers a 27-21 lead, and Ja'Quan Newton cut it to four with two free throws in the final minute.
I'm en fuego man.
Getting silly at this point!

Good effort by the BBall team. They need to learn from theses type of games to become an elite team.
ESPN takes a look at the football team and sees good things happening:

Great start for Mark Richt and Co. to have about half of the highest ranked commits of the 2016 class on campus already.
Reading th ePBP article, I'm a little curious why it is commonly assumed that Jack Allison is going to be Kaaya's successor.
We haven't seen a bit of Evan Shirreffs, who is about the same size, had better numbers his senior year (over 2,000 yards, 39 TD, 4 INT vs. 1,450 yards, 11 TD, 5 INT for Allison) and is an extremely bright guy (4.0 GPA in HS).
Assuming Kaaya turns pro next year, both guys will battle it out with whoever will be the 2017 freshman QB, who might have a shot if he enrolls early as well.

I don't think there's a clear successor to Kaaya. It could be Malik or the other two. We've actually seen him in a college game and he threw some sweet passes.
I would expect there will be an open competition, even this spring. Although Kaaya is the clear leader, I wouldn't be surprised if Richt has Shireffs and Malik pushing Kaaya. He needs to improve his pocket mobility and at least learn how to run a little bit.

Shaq's Dad:
No longer the parent of a UM Recruit
It has been a surreal journey... Shaq's recruitment.. which has now come to an end. One of the first thing coach Richt told Shaq while he was recruiting on behalf of UGA the summer before Shaq's junior year...was the recruiting process will be exciting for you, but you will be happy the day it comes to an end. Well it has now come to an end... and I have to agree with coach Richt... I'm glad it is over. I will miss the excitement of the visits and meeting the other families on the trail... I won't miss opening the mail box and finding it full of recruiting propaganda. I feel I can write a book about this journey... the does and don't of the camp circuit, the visits, the calls and all the people you meet along the way. It saddens me a bit to close that chapter, but I look forward to the years to come. I can remember like it was yesterday coaching Shaq in Pop-Warner and it was yesterday when we drove off campus... starting a new chapter in his life. Since his commitment to the University of Miami.. the summer before his junior year of high school I have been a nervous Nelly following the chaos the ups and downs at the school... the whole time Shaq's dispositions was it will all work. His first offer to play D1 football came from Ron Dugan while he was working for Louisville and his first offer extended by a head coach came from coach Richt while at UGA... it looks like Shaq was right it will all works out. So this is my last post as a parent of a recruit... my next will be as life long fan and the parent of a Miami Hurricane.

CIS:
Richt's Recruiting- OT edition
Now that we have the majority of the coaches named and we know basically the offensive and defensive systems we will run I wanted to take a look at Richt’s recruiting during his time with Georgia. I’ll be going through his recruiting position-by-position until I get through all 293 recruits from 2002 to 2014. I chose 2002 to start for a couple of reasons:
- It’s easier because most of the sites start at 2002
- It’s difficult to evaluate him on the 2001 recruiting class due to limited time to put a class together
I’ve covered the QB's, RB's, WR's and TE's. Now I'll move on to OT's.
Richt recruited 27 OT's and they averaged 6-5, 287 lbs. and averaged 3.30 stars. Five players did not make it to campus (Antonio Mercier, Tom Gainous, James Lee, John Miller, DeVondre Seymour).
Here are the OT's recruited:
Dan Inman- 6-7, 300 and 4.00 average stars. From NC, made 48 career starts and was All-SEC.
Trey Chandler- 6-6, 255 and 3.50 average stars. From GA and made 11 career starts. Injuries ended his career.
Ken Shackleford- 6-5, 300 and 3.00 average stars. From GA and made 13 career starts. Was a 6th round draft pick after entering draft early.
Chester Adams- 6-6, 325 and 3.00 average stars. From AL and made 0 career starts.
Josh Davis- 6-6, 295 and 2.67 average stars. From MS and made 21 career starts. Had injuries, but started every game after soph. season.
Justin Anderson- 6-5, 320 and 4.00 average stars. From VA and made 29 career starts. Drafted in 7th round.
Clint Boling- 6-5, 270 and 2.67 average stars. From GA and made 49 career starts. All-American was drafted and now excellent pro G.
Trinton Sturdivant- 6-5, 280 and 4.00 average stars. From NC and made 21 career starts. Started as true freshman, but injuries robbed him of NFL career.
Cordy Glenn- 6-6, 315 and 3.33 average stars. From GA and made 50 career starts. Was All-SEC and drafted in 2nd round. Massive man still plays LT.
AJ Harmon- 6-4, 308 and 4.00 average stars. From GA and made one career start. Left program.
Austin Long- 6-5, 270 and 4.00 average stars. From TN and made 0 career starts.
Kenarious Gates- 6-5, 301 and 2.67 average stars. From GA and made 49 career starts.
Kolton Houston- 6-5, 265 and 3.67 average stars. From GA and made 43 career starts. Beat out 5-star player John Theus to keep RT job. Injuries prevented all-SEC career.
Xzavier Ward- 6-6, 260 and 3.33 average stars. From GA and made 0 career starts.
Zach DeBell- 6-7, 265 and 3.00 average stars. From FL and made 0 career starts.
Mark Beard- 6-3, 290 and 3.00 average stars. Junior College player made 2 career starts.
John Theus- 6-6, 295 and 4.67 average stars. From FL and made 47 career starts. All-SEC and future pro.
Aulden Bynum- 6-5, 260 and 3.00 average stars. From GA and made 1 career starts.
Vince Vance- 6-7, 300 and 300 average stars. Junior College player made 6 career starts.
What does this tell us?
Richt obviously likes height in his tackles, with 12 of the tackles standing 6-6 or taller and only two tackles listed under 6-5 recruited by Richt. Richt also likes to take undersized tall OL and develop them while adding good weight. 10 of his Tackle recruits weighed under 280 while recruited. Richt also liked to add size at the RT position, with 9 players listed over 300 lbs. as freshmen.
Can Richt identify talent at OL?
The 3.30 average stars for the T's that Richt brought in was one of the lowest for any position group, but he fared pretty well in developing the talent. Clint Boling went from 2.67 stars to NFL draft pick. Sturdivant was a decently recruited player who started as a true freshman and had All-American talent prior to his injuries. Josh Davis went from 2.67 stars to starting every game after soph. year. Ken Shackleford was a consensus three star and was eventually drafted. Kenarious Gates went from 2.67 stars to 49 career starts.
Is Richt an elite recruiter at OL?
Richt brought in only one 5-star recruit- John Theus- who has turned out to be an All-American talent and already all-conference. Richt made the shrewd move to bring in his brother as a long snapper the year prior- the only P5 school to recruit him- and that secured John Theus the next year. Shrewd move, but also shows the difficulties in recruiting highly rated OL. Only 7 T's average 4.00 stars and one of those never played in a game (Brent Benedict). Austin Long and AJ Harmon are two other four stars and they combined for one career start.
Is this a negative position?
This is a position group that shows Richt prefers athleticism rather than pure size. He prefers to bring in guys with length and the frame to add weight while already possessing the feet to play the position. With his track record of actually developing lower rated players into starters and quality prospects you have to feel as though this is a position that Richt has an eye for the talent and recruits on his terms rather than worrying about stars.
For the current crop of players, St. Louis fits best what he traditionally seeks at LT. Odowu fits that huge, mauler type at RT. Depth needs to be developed there, but I feel like Richt has shown he and his staff can do that.

Think Richt can sell him on immediate PT with an established, NFL caliber QB, instead of having to wait for a true freshman at UGA to take his lumps at UGA.

Jamel Cook
Just a quick update...
I have been told through Miami Central alumni and people very close to his family. He's being pushed and pulled 3 ways. Miami, FSU and USC.
I mentioned previously that I was told his mother works at UM. She and Jamel's grandmother are pushing for him to stay home at Miami.
His father is pushing FSU.
His brother is pushing USC. (The reason why a USC visit came out of the blue, his brother goes to college in Cali)
Bama and LSU have also entered the picture.
From what I have been told, he is wide open and has no clue where he is going at this point.

3 more visitors this weekend
Latrell Williams confirmed his official visit. He has mentioned he would like to decide on NSD but we'll see what happens this weekend.
Both Aaron Robinson(UF) & Former Canes Commit James Pierre(UNC) from Deerfield Beach HS, will be taking an unofficial to Miami this weekend.
Gerry Hamilton from ESPN mentioned he would be shocked if Robinson signed with UF. Robinson did mention before when finally offered by Miami that it wouldn't effect him. *Take with grain of salt*
Pierre I was told decommitted because of scheme and Goldens job security, etc. . Miami has a shot of flipping him back. Pierre grew up a big Hurricanes fan.

Wow:
"Lawrence Phillips, the former football star facing murder charges, was found dead early Wednesday at Kern Valley State Prison, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation spokeswoman Terry Thornton told USA TODAY Sports.
The death is being investigated as a suspected suicide, according to press release from the department.
Phillips, 40, was facing the possible death penalty in the alleged murder of his former cellmate at Kern Valley State Prison.
He was a running back at the University of Nebraska in the 1990s before playing in the NFL in a career cut short by off-field incidents and legal trouble."
