So I guess I'll leave Ahmmon Richards' front yard and go home now.

LOL - That's so 2005. Nowadays, you tap into webcams and have drones flying overhead.

raizecane

BTW - 30 years ago today when had the tragic loss of the Challenger crew. I remember that day like if it was yesterday. Actually saw it with my own eyes as I was standing outside my workplace.

Prayers go out to the NASA family .......

UMike

Ohio..I will post monday

Lurker, I think Byrd sticks. If he wanted to go to school with his friend he could/would of flipped a while ago. Richt made him a top priority while Tenn is a little late in the game. If anyone has a chance, is Tenn, but IMO he sticks.

UMike

Richards will be a Cane also. Our best WR haul in a long time, easily since the 2008 class.

Noel, I let the filthy little recruitniks have from end of the championship game until signing day each year as their time.

It's from the day after signing day through the end of the season they can't stop sniffing underage male jocks that the rest of us have reason to look down on them justifiably.

Smart Mark not making Homer picks fall completely inaccurate has to be refreshing for the usual suspects guilty of falling for the fatso verbal diarrhea diet they swallowed the last four signing day lead-ups anyway so they're on a rush this year.

Go Canes!

Lol, what an insufferable d**k head.

Was thinking the same thing!

Da U N Houston

I love the fact that we are battling with the SEC (per Ohio Cane's list) for talent. Last year we were battling UCF, USF, Connecticut, Marshall, FIU, and Memphis. Not to say we land everyone, but have to feel good to be fight toe to toe with the SEC.

Ohio_Cane

Da U, this is the new Miami under Richt. We battle the big boys now and will win those battles. Not all obviously, but a lot.

WWIN

^^^^^^
To be honest.... the last staff were in the same SEC battles with recruits... the difference being we lost most of those battles tho!

Think... Cooper, Collins, Cook, Calloway, etc... those are just the C's lol

Da U N Houston

WWIN, I agree, but those were pretty much one a year and we lost that one MOST of the time. This year alone we have won (unless a signing day debacle) with Bruce. We rarely beat out T-Rob.

Per Rivals:

Orlando (Fla.) First Academy OL Tre Johnson got a visit from coach Mark Richt at his school today.

"We just talked about what kind of guys they're looking for at Miami, how they feel I can help," Johnson said. "They feel I can be a perfect fit for the school.

"He seems like a great guy, a great coach. He has everything planned out, has a vision to change the program and I feel that's exactly what he's going to do."

Richt took the visit with Joel Rodriguez, a former Cane who will help out with the offensive line and is the Canes' Director of Player Development.

"Joel is a really nice dude, sounds like he's there for the players, there to help out," Johnson said. "He's a guy they go to if players need to talk to someone, things like that. Having a former player on campus, that's pretty neat."

Johnson is an Illinois commitment, so did this visit help UM with him?

"It did help a lot," Johnson said. "I know what to expect from the coach, already knew a lot about them. It helped me feel more comfortable going down there knowing there's a great coach down there that has a plan, a coach that's going to change the program."

Asked if Illinois tried to talk him out of taking an official visit to Miami this coming weekend, Johnson said, "Illinois and North Carolina both tried to talk me out of visiting. They were just telling me I shouldn't really take the visit. Illinois said they didn't like the fact I'm visiting but understand that it's my dream school. They both said at the end of the day they didn't want me to go.

"I told them it's my life and I feel I have to find the best place for me to go."

His current recruiting status?

"Right now it's up in the air in terms of where I might go," Johnson said.

CaneSport's Take

Johnson grew up dreaming of playing for Miami, and we think the Canes have a great shot - certainly his refusal to cancel the visit despite pressure from UNC and Illinois shows that.

Sounds like a possible flip.

Meanwhile at the BUC...

"Miami received a commitment last week from Australian combo guard Dejan Vasiljevic, pushing the Hurricanes to the verge of a top five class in the 2016 247Sports Composite Recruiting Rankings.

The Hurricanes under Jim Larranaga have the No. 6 ranked class.

The Miami recruiting class is led by five-star McDonald's All American Dewan Huell. At 6-10, Huell is a skilled big man who plays with an aggressive athletic edge.

On the perimeter Miami added another physical competitor in Bruce Brown, who is ranked No. 34 in the 247Sports Composite but is considered a five-star prospect in the Top247.

Rounding out the class with Vasiljevic is developing four-star big man Rodney Miller.

Miami trails only Duke in the ACC Recruiting Rankings.

Australia's starting to become more of a bball hotbed now.

I hope Richt is on the phone! I know there's no chance, but hey, it's worth a shot.

In case U didn't know, another dead period starts Sunday and goes through the day after NSD. So Saturday night is the last time any coach can contact a recruit before he signs.

Old Skool

Missouri head football coach Barry Odom announced Thursday that quarterback Maty Mauk has been dismissed from the program.

The dismissal comes after the signal-caller had been suspended three times since September.

Cassandra Vinograd of NBC News, citing school officials, reported the latest suspension came after a video surfaced that allegedly showed Mauk "snorting a line of white powder."

Matt Porter:

Two returning: Despite participating in UM’s senior day festivities and the team’s end-of-year banquet — where each was given their game jersey in a frame — it appears D’Mauri Jones and Earl Moore are returning to the Hurricanes.

A UM spokesperson said as of now Jones, a wide receiver, and Moore, a defensive tackle, plan to participate in spring practice. Both will be redshirt seniors.

The spokesperson said as of now, defensive tackle Jelani Hamilton — who, like Jones and Moore, remained on the official roster as of Thursday afternoon — does not plan to return to the team. Hamilton, like the aforementioned pair, has one year of eligibility remaining.

Should Jones and Moore return, a total of six non-senior scholarship players will have departed the program after last season: junior cornerback Artie Burns, who declared for the NFL draft; redshirt junior tight end Jake O’Donnell, quarterback Gray Crow, Hamilton, sophomore wide receiver Tyre Brady and redshirt freshman offensive guard Joe Brown.

Go Canes!

Barry: UM said earlier this afternoon that DT Jelani Hamilton, who never fulfilled expectations here, has left the football team.

Herbieibis

Let those 2 help out on the scout team.
Ohio, I would say we are ok at db if we get bird. Aside from elder, who else had significant laying time? Is redwhine and maye cb's? Who did they redshirt? These last few days could be real dicey, trying to flip these kids. Our track record of flipping kids from big schools is not glowing. I mean it's down to us flipping a kid from Illinois and Missouri to even get an Ol or a dl.

trianglecane

I was always puzzled by Jelani. I know he had injuries earlier in his career, but I don't think that was all to the story.

Oh well.. All the best to you Jelani.

Herbieibis

I know the problem, just like grimble chick they all were de's out of high school and Goldie made them gain weight to be dt's. Grimble transferred, chick had no business inside and probably some of the same with Hamilton. He torn his knee up his sr. Year in high school and redshirted right off the bat. Some guys can add the weight, depending on their body type and others it makes them slow and sluggish. Golden had a hard time luring dt's to play here and the beat goes on with richt, although richt was against the wall right off the bat with the late start. This has been one position that has been out albetros for over 10 years.

Tre Johnson is 6'8", 285

Are you saying that we were only battling SEC schools for one player a year?

BigWindyCane1

I would love to be a fly on the wall during a CMR in-home recruiting visit. From what I have read, it appears like CMR is the closest thing to Schnelly that the Canes have had in a long time. CMR is a visionary, agressive, he bonds with parents and he sells the program. Seems like the perfect coach to build our program in south Florida.

TonyCane

To be fair, didn't Golden at least bond with the parents initially as well?

Harry Miller

Thanks BigWindycane I was wondering about height and weight. These guys can work him out the right way and make him strong, quick and fast for a big Offensive lineman.

UMike

I said it when he was in HS, he was VERY overrated. Very slow. Peeps on the blog said it was due to a knee injury. What I saw with my own eyes was not a 4-star player. Hope he finds a good landing spot and finshes or has finished his education. WIll always root for a Cane, but he was very overrated IMO

If it's any consolation, I was going to pick Haskins to Miami lol. Didn't think he was committing already. He was why we told Eubanks to not even bother visiting

Gotcha!

AfriCane

At best some of u r optimistic, unjaded fans. At the worst, u r rambling idiots with a short memory. We have been in play for top recruits since forever. Took a dip under Coker. Then Shanon brought it back, highlighted by the number 1 class of 2008.
Also, what is the deal with this, 'the new U' talk. We need to talk like we have been there before, because we have. Matter of fact, the U defined 'there.' I guess years of mediocrity has wiped some of your pride. When we start wining again, we shouldn't be happy that we r winning now. We should be happy that we r back to wining like we r expected.

Go Canes!

Why must some people define other fans.

For God's sakes we're all wanting the same things for our team.

Go Canes!

Porter: Fun fact about him: he is the only one of UM's 15 current commits that does not hail from Florida.

Talking about the TE commit.

Ohio_Cane

DMoney on Haskins:

The first thing I will say about Haskins is that he's huge. He hit a growth spurt between his junior and senior years, which bumped him up a level as a prospect. Big frame, big mitts, big legs, just a big football player.

He's also a highly coordinated athlete- he played QB, he returned kicks, he was the punter, and he was also an All-Area basketball player. People will talk about his speed, but they said similar things about Clive Walford. My biggest concern is level of competition. Some guys really blossom when they face better athletes (Njoku) and others crumble (Kiy Hester and Beau Sandland). We will learn a lot in camp.

But the real story to me is the recruiting job by Coach Hartley. Haskins was sold on WVU and Hartley worked to flip him. Pretty impressive for a green coach. And Richt remains dominant on his in-home visits.
