One thing is constant, and that is change.
After the conclusion of the 2015 college football season a whopping total of 26 major universities (FBS) decided that a little change would, in fact, do them some good, so they quickly parted ways with their head football coaches.
While that is a substantial number, it is not the highest total of coaches shown the door in one year. Over the past eight years a total of 189 FBS coaches have been given their pink slip for an average of 23.6 a year turnover rate.
The most FBS head coaches sent packing in one given year was in 2012 when 31 got the proverbial axe and were told to hit the road Jack.
The fewest head coaches replaced for their poor performances was in 2014 when only 15 were told not to let the door hit them you know where as they walked out.
Yes, change happens, and right now it is happening at the University of Miami.
Former UM head coach Al Golden was unceremoniously fired during the season (rare in college football) after a final epic failure against Clemson. Then after an exhausting and lengthy national search, Mark Richt, who himself was "let go" and took a midnight train from Georgia, was finally hired to right the sinking ship that is Miami Hurricane football.
Richt, who now clearly has Miami and not Georgia on his mind, has basically removed or replaced the entire football staff, including even the very popular (among current and former players) and long time UM strength and conditioning coach Andreu Swasey.
You may recall that Sheryl Crow wrote a song about it.
Now, Miami's head coach Mark Richt is making it come true.
Things are changing, and changing fast, at "The U".

Happy new year. Haven't posted in a looooong time but enjoying the joy of everyone getting excited about the future. Kind of like the early days of the space. Bummer about aranda http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/14483390/lsu-tigers-hire-wisconsin-badgers-defensive-coordinator-dave-aranda-same-position but the future still looking much better than it has in a long time.

I only speak from personal experience. If you're running any kind of successful enterprise and you think you "can take care of the motivation" when you get that person on board, you are doomed to failure. Alabama recruits are dissected when it comes to work ethic, motor, etc. That's a guarantee.
Posted by: Lur-ker | January 01, 2016 at 11:36 PM
I'm talkin' CFB, not Wall Street, waaaaay different dynamic. If you think Saban leaves motivation up to a bunch of teenagers & twetny somethings, He'd be outta the coaching business...He'd get what we had with this season's UM team...ie kids making up their own rules, kids blaming last year's players, the HC makin' $h!t up as He goes, the HC telling kids to "not rise to the occasion", etc, etc. Look at the history of the game, very few, if any of the great College coaches, weren't great motivators.
Posted by: CaneRock | January 02, 2016 at 04:43 AM
He doesn't have to take any chances on anyone. He gets the elite of the elite every year, no matter what.
Posted by: Go Canes | January 01, 2016 at 11:05 PM
He took a chance on a kid just this season...Jonathan Taylor. IIRC, nobody wanted to touch that kid after what happened at UGA, only Saban, and it blew up in His face.

Great news, if true.
One question, however, that I've been wondering about over the last few years: There is precious little space on campus for UM to practice outdoors, so where exactly would an INDOOR practice facility be located? Does any Canespace blogger know? Just curious!

We in the running for any UA recruiting announcements?
Posted by: 1mg of Epi | January 02, 2016 at 08:30 AM
There are multiple practice fields behind the Hecht building. One would have to be converted to indoor.
There really isn't that much space there.
Posted by: Go Canes | January 02, 2016 at 08:34 AM
I saw on the replay of UA practice that Sam Bruce was sick on the side line. I rather doubt it was from the "heat" as the reporters claimed . I hope it passes and he can play. I hope to see Allison to Bruce today a few times.

I personally don't think Moffit is coming back... Seems like his family is solidly planted where he's at.
In any case, here's a cool vid I found of him training Canes back in the day:

Moffitt is NOT coming back, but according to multiple reports CMR is close to a hire... Apparently the Jackson CEO was seen having dinner and drinks last night with Richard Simmons. Players to be notified shortly.

Headed over to the BUC today to watch the Canes men basketball team open the ACC schedule against Syracuse. It should be interesting. The Canes have what it take to win the ACC, but I have been surprised to see that the ACC is very deepthis year and any team can beat the Canes on a given night if they aren't ready to play.
It's an amazing thing to watch. Coach L is one of the best coaches in college basketball.

I never thought our teams were out of shape except under Shannon. We havent had really great athletes in a while. With the weak coaching and bad morale in the fanbase, our players turned into thinkers instead of attackers. That split second of doubt and indecision is the difference between greatness and mediocrity. When the game is tough in the fourth quarter, players need confidence and leadership. You know if you have a shot by the look in coaches' eyes. You can tell who the big time coaches are by the consistent look in their eye when shyt is tough. You guys remember how Al woukd look in tight situations? Teams fall apart when they look at their coach and see fear and weakness. You know he doesnt believe, even with al th ra ra ra gett it for the gipper talk. This is the death of aggressiveness, momentum, and fundamental soundness. If the players belie ve in you, you win more than your talent says you should. If they dont, you get the debacle that has been canes football the last decade.
