Barry:

UM HOOPS NOTES

Coach Jim Larranaga, whose team is 19-4 and 8-3 in the ACC, wanted to make one thing clear this week: "We’re not winning because of me. We’re winning because of Angel Rodriguez and Sheldon McClellan and Davon Reed and Tonye Jekiri. Because they’re really good. They know how to play. We’re competing in the league with the most efficient teams in the country. Give my assistants credit."

Larranaga obviously deserves a large chunk of the credit, as does a staff including longtime assistant Chris Caputo, who was instrumental in the recruitment of Ja'Quan Newton, among others.
### Larranaga, on talk of UM being a potential No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament: "Have you looked at our schedule for the remainder of the season? We are heading into the toughest part of our ACC schedule. We have road game at Florida State, a road game at Carolina --- the No. 1 team in the country last week; and then we end the season at Notre Dame, at Virginia Tech. And two of our three at home are Virginia and Louisville, which are in the top 10 in the country in Kenpom [ratings, with Virginia Tech the other home game]. And I’m like, ‘Are you serious?’”

### Larranaga said he "can't believe" McClellan wasn't on the Wooden Watch list this week: "I value efficiency. Sheldon is No. 2 in the country in offensive efficiency. He’s great."

What could he do to solidify himself as a first-round pick? "Probably shoot more," Larranaga said. "People look at points. They don’t look at efficiency. It’s disappointing. As long as he keeps playing the way he’s playing, we’re in good shape."

McClellan is averaging 16.1 points and shooting an impressive 53.4 percent from the field.

UM plays at FSU at 6:30 p.m. Sunday on ESPNU.

What effects does an LSU football season cancellation (as threatened by their governor) have on the SEC and on the Tigers athletic eligibility?

Go Canes!

That's never going to happen Tony.

That dude will be impeached before those crazy rednecks let an LSU game be cancelled.

BigWindyCane1

Great article. I love my Canes women sports, tennis, volleyball and now track. We have the best (-looking) women teams in America. Love ww's new avatar - LOL!

They say its not a scare tactic.......but it is. LSU shutting down is as likely as No'D landing a job anytime soon........

Until someone shows me a link proving GD/TS wasn't conceived in a reverse donkey show in tijuana when his dad was drunk on spiked kool-aid, obviously that's what happened to infect the blog with his retarded-ness.

If the link shows it was a traditional tijuana entertainment, then the avatar is still ugly and his father belonged in a glue factory.

Adidas makes the ugliest stuff if they supply the track team as well, even the basketball uniforms look weird this season with the waistband circles on them and those plastic wing feathers on the football outfits were only the least embarrassing misfire on the gridiron of the pyrite ROE final destruction. The idiotic idea that high school players like brand new uniform abortion color combinations holds no water after signing day this year but since Oregon never won a title while wearing no two decent color combinations consecutively I guess some star crossed gazers can't help but push that discredited line of excuse for why driving down the bargaining power of your prime property through mismanagement is a drawing point, instead of coming clean and admitting market realities drive decision making for the leader in the sports apparel space and Miami no longer holds the value there it at one time led the way on.

TonyCane

Oh I agree. It's a scare tactic. But it's fun to imagine it actually happening (although not fun for the students affected).

Imagine the protests in Louisiana! Imagine the ESPN reporting as the countdown to the college shutdown took place. Imagine the reaction of the NCAA...would they allow the Tigers players to transfer to other schools immediately without penalty?

SMDH!...that guy's a doofus...LSU football, Mardi Gras, & Ben Simmons are some of the only things making money in that State.

Remember this guy...

EAST CLEVELAND - East Cleveland police arrested Latwan Anderson for robbery Friday.

According to police, Anderson was caught robbing a Family Dollar on Euclid and Strathmore just after noon on Friday.

Police set up a perimeter around the store and took Anderson into custody shortly after.

Anderson was a standout player for Glenville just a few years back, before heading to the University of Miami (FL) on a track scholarship. According to Bleacher Report, Anderson had 9 scholarship offers during his senior season.

No charges have been filed at this time.

Latwan finished his career last season at Notre Dame College, a DII school.

Duke beats Virginia. Another team in front of the Canes loose. Canes have a chance to move into the top 10 and in position to control its destiny for an ACC regular season title. It's there for the taking but Canes need to play better

Jordan's uniforms suck! He's good for making shoes ONLY... and by shoes I mean NIKE shoes!

thirstybuzzardcane

^^^^^I did really like the alternate uniforms we had for football. The all black and the all white we had vs. Cincinnati were sick!

My favorites were the old Russell Athletic Canes uniforms from the late 89s and early 90s. Michael Irvin, Jerome Brown, Steve Walsh, etc. Irvin taking that seem route and going to the house on FSU and Deon. Love that!

Jordan had made the best shoes in history!! I own tons of Retros dude and the best are the Jordans not the first Retros but the ones MJ actually wore.

MIA Chi 'Cane '98

Speaking of Jordan Brand, Nike released the retro air Jordan 4 cement 89's. My favorite shoe. Brought me back to 1989 and my middle school years.

Go Canes!

Didn't think the uniforms were so markedly different to tell you the truth.

As long as the checks from adidas keep clearing the bank and the team starts winning big, I could care less.

UM a one point dog on the road against number two all time on the program coaching wins list and his felonious sex-assault university team?

You're going to need a bigger boat...

Even when attempting a lame insult, OCD can't write a coherent sentence. It's so sad to see a dirt poor loser be such a failure at everything he attempts. OCD being mentally ill and with no prospects for a successful life almost makes one feel sorry for such a pathetic failure. Almost.

Sigh. At least he provides me with many laughs at his circus geek existence.

BigWindyCane1

The #11/12 ranked Canes are a point underdog in Tally, getting no respect.A win will put them comfortably in the top 10, and with showdown against UNC for the lead in the ACC standings coming7ng up.

I am interested to see how the Canes come out to play. For seniors like AR, DMac, Tonye and ICU, this is their chance to step up and make their mark. Younger teams like FSU and Duke are starting to gel, while the experienced teams like UVa and the Canes are trying to hold them off. This stretch to close out the regular season will be a good barometer for what to expect in the big dance in March.

orange 'n green in the vein

TS/GD can't stop making a jackass of himself, it runs in the family obviously.

If the crying breakfast cereal mascots play three more seconds of defense on the road at the end of the half they won they wouldn't still be 0-for the season against ranked teams.

Unless the front-court has been reinforced at felonious sex-assault university since last time I'm not sure they're going to be able to keep the crowd interested down the wire. Much less cover...

Lur-ker

I mean, the jokes tell themselves.

But at least some progress has been made!

One sentence, about ten words, that are in English. Very lame insult, but at least it's understandable.

Sadly, the rest of the post devolves into the usual sad cacophony of retardo-speak and punctuation deprived babble. Funny for me, sad and pathetic for OCD, as he unsuccessfully attempts to achieve some semblance of normalcy.

ML Alumni1970.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY ALL YOU CANESPACERS.
WHAT IS THE LINE ON THE GAME AGAINST FSU?

Lur-ker

Miami +1 or +1.5

BigWindyCane1

ML, FSU is favored by 1
