The University of Miami baseball program will host its annual Fan Fest & Alumni Game on Saturday, Feb. 13 at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field. Festivities are set to begin at 4 p.m., and admission to the event is free. The team autograph session is set for 4-5 p.m.
The concession stands, including the famous Mark Light Shake stand, will be open, while representatives from the bookstore will be on hand selling the newest baseball apparel. Other activities for kids include long toss, a "Dress Like a Cane" station and more, while representatives from the Miami ticket office will also be on hand for a Select-A-Seat event.
Miami Hurricanes baseball alumni will take batting practice on the field before being introduced at 5:30 p.m. The alumni will then take on the 2016 Hurricanes in the annual exhibition game slated to begin at 6 p.m.
The UM baseball team has continued to build preseason momentum by achieving high rankings among the preseason polls released by many national publications.
The Hurricanes checked in at No. 6 in the USA TODAY Sports baseball preseason coaches poll.
Miami was ranked No. 4 in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s top 25 released in December, marking Miami’s highest preseason ranking from that publication since 2005. Miami was also ranked No. 6 by D1Baseball.com in its first top 25 released in early January.
The Hurricanes’ Baseball America preseason ranking of No. 6 released earlier this week is its highest since 2007.
Miami returns 18 letterwinners from a 2015 team that won a second straight ACC Coastal Division title and qualified for the College World Series for the 24th time in program history. The Hurricanes ended the 2015 season in Omaha, Neb., and were ranked No. 6 by D1Baseball, Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, Baseball America, Perfect Game and USA TODAY in year-end polls.
Two Hurricanes – juniors Zack Collins and Bryan Garcia – have earned preseason All-America recognition from both Louisville Slugger and Perfect Game.
The Hurricanes, who earned the No. 5 national seed entering last year’s postseason run, won 50 games and extended their own college baseball record by qualifying for the NCAA postseason for the 43rd straight year; Miami has not missed the NCAA postseason since 1972.
Season tickets to the Miami Hurricanes’ 2016 baseball season at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field are available for as little as $99, while family plans (two adults, three youth) for the entire 35-game home slate are available for just $199. Call (305) 284-2263 for more information.

After Miami's win vs. Pitt, they now have 13 wins vs the KenPom Top 100. The current KenPom No. 1, Villanova, has 12 wins vs the KP Top 100.

### These UM new coaches really like their offensive talent. Why so?
“Versatility,” offensive coordinator Thomas Brown said. “We have some tight ends that can pose some mismatches, guys that can flex out and beat a smaller player one-on-one but also be effective in the run game and receivers who can stretch the field vertically and get on top of smaller DBs. And some home run tailbacks and a quarterback who can make a bunch of plays. I think we have it all.”
### Unfortunate that UM and Heat home games conflicted Tuesday. It will happen a second time this season on Feb. 22 (Heat-Pacers, UM-Virginia). UM athletic director Blake James said the school tries to avoid direct home conflicts but “due to a variety of scheduling challenges, sometimes it is unavoidable.”

He is the OC or better yet the co-OC, just not calling plays. Similar to Coley at FSU.

New University of Miami offensive coordinator and running backs coach Thomas Brown, a former Georgia star tailback 29 years young, said “as a little kid’’ he “grew up watching Hurricanes Frank Gore and Clinton Portis and Willis McGahee,’’ and relishes his new opportunity.
And Jon Richt, UM’s 25-year-old quarterbacks coach, will take a lifetime of learning from one of the best — his dad — and bring that with him when teaching Brad Kaaya or Malik Rosier or Vincent Testaverde or Evan Shirreffs or true freshman Jack Allison.
“Here’s the deal,” Richt said. “My dad has been tutoring me my whole life. I’ve been under him since I started throwing a football. The thing is, what he teaches is what I teach already.’’
Be assured that UM coach Mark Richt, who serves as their mentor and boss, will be the Hurricanes’ offensive honcho this season, regardless of what title a coach has been given.
“He’s going to call the plays,’’ Brown said of the head coach on Wednesday, when asked how the new system will work. “I’m going to organize everything else from the offensive coordinator’s standpoint and obviously from an install concept. I’m going to introduce those concepts to the players and be able to coach it that way.
“This is my first time. It’s going to work great. I’m excited about it.’’
Mark Richt introduced his assistants to the media this week on National Signing Day, then left the Schwartz Center’s Mann Auditorium to allow his coaches an opportunity to mingle freely.
The younger Richt was a quarterback at Division II Mars Hill College in North Carolina after transferring from Clemson, where he was a three-star prospect when he signed with the Tigers in 2008. He spent 2015 as the Buffalo Bills' offensive quality control coach, “which means I basically did a lot of the behind-the-scenes work — all the playbook [and film] breakdowns.’’ In 2014, he was an unpaid Georgia coach working with quarterbacks.
Richt said his father is “in a position where he’s going to work with the quarterbacks. Not only is he the quarterbacks coach, but he’s really the offensive coordinator. Any offensive coordinator is going to have priority over the quarterbacks.
“He’s going to do a lot of [the] strategic and mental side of it. I’ll probably handle a lot of the developmental and drills and footwork and fundamental part of it, which will be exactly what he essentially will be working with the guys.
“He’s kind of in that mind-set to where he’s going to groom me to be the guy he wants me to be.’’

ESPN is actually a joke. They have that whole monster at their disposal and give us psuedo sports psycology non stop. They need to focus on tactics and strategy and highlights.

Mike Bobo: 'Mark Richt seems like a new guy'
Mike Bobo says Mark Richt sounds like a new man.
Bobo, the Colorado State head coach and former longtime Georgia assistant, told SiriusXM College Sports Nation that he’s talked to Richt a few times since the latter became the head coach at Miami (FL), and the energy is obvious.
“I was so excited he decided to stay in coaching and land in Miami," Bobo said. "He seems very excited, every time I talk to him. He seems like a new guy. Almost refreshed and recharged. I’m excited to see what he’s going to do.”
Part of Richt’s plan at Miami is to call offensive plays and coach quarterbacks, as he did when he started at Georgia. Richt’s son, Jon, is the quarterbacks coach, but Mark will be involved.
Bobo joined Richt’s Georgia staff as QB coach in 2001 and moved up to offensive coordinator in 2007. Bobo expects it to be a similar teaching setup, and he’s very grateful for that experience.
“He’s told me (his son’s situation is) going to be like when he hired me,” Bobo said. “I was basically a full-time GA. I was a full-time coach, but a GA at first. He ran the meetings, I ran the scout team for the first year. Year after year, he gave me a little bit more and handed it over.

Jeff Bowden.
At least the scout team this year is only going to be spare UM quiditch squad platoon fodder with all the goldhen girl choked out chicken's departures so if this is Miami's remake of that only hilarious because it happened to felonious sex-assault university production, Smark junior won't be ruining actual scholarship roster parts for the time being while dad gets the belt ready to whip some sense into his kid...
