Uh oh, cans of Off should be flyin' off the shelves...

Florida Gov. Rick Scott has declared a health emergency in four counties of the state because of the Zika virus.

At least nine cases of the mosquito-borne illness have been detected in Florida. Health officials believe all of the cases are from people who contracted the disease while traveling to affected countries.

Scott signed the order Wednesday to cover Miami-Dade, Lee, Hillsborough and Santa Rosa counties.

The Zika virus is linked to brain deformities in babies and is causing concern among public health officials worldwide. The virus is primarily spread through mosquito bites, but investigators had been exploring the possibility it could be sexually transmitted.

U.S. health officials say a person in Texas became infected with Zika through sex in the first case of the illness being transmitted within the United States.

Would you guys prefer a win vs fsu but finish 7-5 or go undefeated all year with a loss to fsu once in season and again in championship game and finish 11-2

Best source for accurate Zika info. Not a red alert issue based on the science, even though the possible risk of microcephalic condition needs to be strongly monitored in pregnancies/newborns

Ariz: Jovani Haskins has the skill set to blossom at Miami. Potential mismatch nightmare. Biggest steal in Miami's class IMO #Canes

Well it's time to circle the wagons or say goodbye to the top 25 ranking...

WWIN

I guess we can throw out the whole we could already be at 85 talk from prior years.

Posted by: Go Canes! | February 03, 2016 at 04:05 PM

If we're not at 85 we're at 84... I don't think ONE player really makes a difference

orange 'n green in the vein

Well if that one scholly gets you Henry Hogshead it makes the world of it Willie...

orange 'n green in the vein

23 is trying to be the Hurricane's best player tonight but he'll need to start finishing with flushes at the rim in the 2nd to pull this out.

There IT is right there.

Jmj56Ace

Did anyone mention that we didn't lose a recruit to ufag or fsucks this year on or before signing day.

orange 'n green in the vein

That's a first half you can build on.

ND is going to have to go man and they're not winning a lot of those personnel assignments by position outside of pg really.

Could turn into a route if the buc crowd gets into it over the last 20 minutes...

Herbieibis

It's going to be tough playing with 5 dt's this season. Martin won't be ready and if we get a couple hurt it really will be tough. I like the potential talent but we'll need some breaks health wise.

orange 'n green in the vein

Aaaaaand there goes Murphys starting spot. Lol.

orange 'n green in the vein

So you have to roll the dice with Lawrence down the wire tonight even with the poor free throw average because he's on tonight and he's got to learn to sink then sometime...

Canes beating Norte Dame by 15 in second half. Canes look strong

Yeah I know I'm just saying it's not like we really can just say we don't have a full roster! Lol

Smart Mark will reference lazy fatso doing it wrong on that and every front all along exactly zero times when the football team fails in 2016 Willie.

Fatso would have started blubbering on about it only slightly less sooner than GD/TS already has this month.

Look at under 60% from unguarded 15 feet Lawrence just dropping them in, hope Murphy likes guarding off the bench...

Thoughts on the First Class of the Richt Era

I understand the frustration. This feels like every Signing Day for the past fifteen years. Byrd and Williams are studs at positions of need. It's a bottom-line business and those are bad losses.

But as much as it sucks, I understand how it happened. Williams is a country kid who tweeted "Go Ducks" when Miami offered. He got an SEC offer and jumped on it. Byrd, like Alex Collins, seemed to prefer the culture of a college town to the urban life of Miami.

Here's the bottom line: Richt is not an unproven commodity like Coker, Shannon or Golden. He has been a recruiting machine for 15 straight years. While we’ve been sniffing glue on Signing Day, he’s been smoking cigars. He didn’t forget how to recruit on the plane ride to Miami.

There’s a difference between making excuses and having perspective. This is a transition class where the prior coach was fired for poor performance. We finished 20th in the country. For comparison, Florida finished 21st last year. Butch Jones, the guy who stole Byrd and Williams, finished 24th in his first year. Golden was 33rd. Harbaugh was 37th. The second class is where you see the recruiting bump.

Transition class or not, we signed some future millionaires. These aren't guys you have to sell yourselves on. Coach Kool says that Joe Jackson is the best DE in the country and I agree with him. All three LBs are killers. We signed the best receiver in Dade (Mullins), Broward (Bruce) and Palm Beach (Richards). These are the elite South Florida playmakers that we've been missing for years. Jack Allison is a 6'6 All-American with a cannon. Travis Homer is the best RB in the state and one of the youngest players in the class.

If I told you after the Clemson game that we could fire Golden and keep all of these guys, everybody would've been thrilled. We also added some nice pieces around them without absorbing mediocre talent. A small class this year sets up a monster in 2017.

Finally, we made important geographical gains. Palm Beach and Jacksonville have been death traps for us. This year, we swept the top three players in Palm Beach and landed two stars from the Jacksonville area. We signed more top 50 players from Florida than any other school in the country, including UF and FSU. The elite national kids will come with a full year to develop relationships. Remember, Richt’s best players (Gurley, Green, Stafford, Murray) were from outside the state of Georgia.

The only thing that gives me pause is that we dropped guys like Desmond Phillips and James Wiggins who could’ve helped us at WR and CB. Hopefully, a full year to evaluate in Dade will correct those problems.

This is an obvious statement, but everything will come down to coaching. Richt has more than enough talent-- both inside the program and in this class -- to win early. If he has success on the field, he will compete for recruiting titles. The closest model would be Florida in the mid-2000s. Zook left behind good talent and a quarterback, Urban landed a solid transition class and a killer second class, coached the **** out of them, and the rest is history.

Signing Day mornings have been tough for us. But the evening is a time to reflect on the guys fulfilling their lifetime dreams. I cannot wait to watch these guys perform in the orange and green.

Sorry that was D$ from CIS, but a great read

Sinister the most hilarious thing is the cupboard is essentially bare before today but none of the apologists for the supposed shortcomings of the signing class will actually say that because they still can't quit fatso in their little Gane hearts.

So glad you watched him walk off into position coaching in a lead poisoned decaying carcass for an eternal joke of a franchise...

Good write-up by D$.

On another note, it's one thing for the SEC to come into SoFlo and pillage recruits, but how the hell does Michigan & USC come into SoFlo and do what they did...especially USC, those MFers came in and snatched Cook & Young...WTF?!!

WTF happened to Byrd?!?!?!?

Stars count but so does coaching. How true...a 5 star guy has a lot of talent; rarely complete package. you take his raw exceptional talent and develop great fundamentals attitude commitment aggression humility teamwork.....then do it to the other 84 guys....then you have great talent and coaching.....then you win.

For coming in on the fly keeping it together MR did pretty good. So the trick is this: get it together in spring, some continuity electricity....and unleash it in the fall. No prediction but 11-1 10-2 very possible....but have a good year build on it and get on the path to greatness again. Harbaugh very impressive what he did....CS and TX as well.....but I think we will play different be different be aggressive and tough......and it has been a long time 12 years....I look forward to what MR rolls out. I think it will not be a NC.....but the product will be much better more competitive aggressive....run the ball....hit and pass it...should be good.
Nice to chat been a while back to my cave....AND REMEMBER....I may not blog....but I am listening reading watching......so be cool be nice to each other and get ready for a good year.

5/10, too lazy to shop dead joker and Donnie darko's name out but you'll spend all that time blending the face?

Guy played high school ball in retirement home Naples, why even bother?

Va, what do you make of snake Stabler showing long term cte when they looked at his brain and spinal cord? The more they continue to add to the casework the more I think the face masks will have to come off again if the sport is going to exist in 25 years imo.

SJMPARMAN

Great game by the Canes basketball team after that debacle at NC State. Took the lead late in the first half and were never really challenged at the end. Lawrence was phenomenal but every player stepped up. Always a pleasure to blow out a team especially ND.

As far as NSD, I think we did good. LBs were a serious need and that was addressed by some studs. I really don't know how good the guys on defense are because they were never coached to be in a position to make a play. I saw some flashes last year that makes me think we have more talent that just wasn't deployed by the previous staff. With these new guys, I expect a dramatic improvement just based on having a competent defensive staff.

On offense, we need to remember Richt is a Bowden disciple. He will pound the rock and get these OL guys in the best shape of their lives. Those guys need to step up. Blocking for the run is a first priority under Richt. Anything less will not be accepted because that is his philosophy. Alabama calls it toughness it is time for UM to do the same. If you can't block for the run you ain't going to last under Richt.

Isn't that old time Miami ball? It is also new time Miami ball. The beasts will come once the identity returns. Today, we are a step closer to being back than yesterday.

How about those hardwood canes putting the beatdown on the domers.

You think they're going to drop out of the top 20, you think maybe should start lowering your sights, then:

Most impressive was Strong. A&M, Baylor, T Tech, and Houston all had stronger classes....until the last 24 hours when he signed seven 4 star players and a 5 star player. That's an outlier performance and possibly a career saving day for Strong.

Miami will be surprisingly better next fall. We're so used to underperformance that we have forgotten what it's like when everything comes together.
