TC-
I haven't looked at the rankings, but are those other classes really stronger? So much weight is placed on class size that Miami with 10 ESPN 300 players is ranked below a school with half as many, but more 3* and below.

Id rather have quality than wasted schollys.

Defensive tackle Shavar Manuel's flip from Florida to rival Florida State on national signing day Wednesday was a strategic move two weeks in the making that the Seminoles were well aware of, according to an FSU assistant coach.

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound four-star recruit from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, had been told, according to defensive ends coach Brad Lawing -- who coached at Florida in 2012 and 2013 -- to "play the game" and "tell the damn Gators anything they want to hear."

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/recruiting/football/story/_/id/14713083/recruit-shavar-manuel-flip-florida-state-seminoles-florida-gators-planned-assistant-coach-boasts

^^ IMO FSU did this to use a few times. Maybe Florida too. Just had the kid play the game a while knowing he was a flip already

UMike

The ESPN rankings, which I always consider the most accurate has Miami ranked 19th..BUT... Miami is the only school in the top 20 that doesnt have at least 20 commits. Every school ranked ahead of us has anywhere from 20-29 commits. FSU who finished #1 has 19...yes 19 4-Star/5-Star players where Miami finished with 11. Like it or not, FSU is our measuring stick so we got some work to do. A full year of recruiting under CMR and a win against FSU would flip this around. At the moment we are very much ahead for the 2017 class and that would only build with a good season.

I'm happy with this class. We got players and difference makers and didnt waste roster spots on garbage. As mentioned before we got the best WR from Dade, Broward and Palm Beach. I believe we also got West Palms top RB. We got back into West Palm in a big way and got talent from Niceville and JAcksonville. Goof stuff

Go Canes!

Agree 100% UMike.

I have to believe that this coaching staff can do more with less so I am not going to frown being ranked 19th. If we don't have any major injuries, we should see an improvement right away....

CaneRock

I hear ya' UMike, but sheesh, USC came into Dade and snatched 2 players, with a coach that's fresh off the interim label. USC & Michigan basically boosted their recruiting rankings with SoFlo players...SMDH!

Speaking of SLS, what's the word on how the improvements are coming along???

UMike

CR, I hear too my friend. CMR had 3 recruiting weeks to build relationships and fend off programs from local recruits. Thats a tall task. Programs are always going to pluck some guys here, the issue will be who they pluck. If we keep the RIGHT guys home it wont matter. Guys like Mullins, Bruce, Jackson etc stayed. So moving forward we will just have to keep the right guys here. We will never ever be able to stop kids from leaving even if were winning titles.

TonyCane

Yes, FSU has recruited at a level that is close to Alabama for the last 6 or so years. Given the talent that they bring in, it's arguable that they underperformed over the last two years.

How long do you think Jimbo stays at FSU?

As long as he wants......

UMike

I think he stays there until Miles is let go, if he ever is. Or could take over for Saban one day. No reason to leave FSU now.

First we had to spend $$$ to get the 12% bus back in proper running condition, but now we are working on the banner.

RCCF all worked up into a frenzy? Love the attitude and support!

SOUP

CaneRock...until we start winning the other teams can poach at will basically from the 305, 954 and 561. Reports are that 90 players from Dade Broward and Palm Beach signed schollys with D-1 schools yesterday, so even when we win cant get them all with a cap of 25 per year.

But as we ALL know, winning cures all and will help Richt keep more of these bad boys home.

The players they "snatched" weren't players we were recruiting, right? Somebody, not named Miami, was going to snatch those players either way.

With around 25 commits every year, most likely well less than 20 are going to be from Dade/Brow/PB, because there will always be some position needs (ex: OL) where we are going to go out of the tri-county area, or state.

We just have to make sure we get the best for us out of this area. The rest WILL be poached, unless they decide to stay home and not go anywhere.

The well we build will only hold 29-30% of the available players in the area.

Again, get the RIGHT 15-20 (max)

Lur-ker

*The wall we build...

Lur-ker

Just saw a tweet from fuzzy muffin that he heard we still give out money for players at the U. That's why he didn't come.

What a guy!

We really didn't want him anyway.

Ohio_Cane

No one has any right to bitch about where our players came from and who got taken out of the tri counties...

We got 18 kids and 16 are from FLA. In a year where the staff had 1 month to recruit. Next year U can bitch if we're not top 5 and 90% from FLA.

Ohio_Cane

Lurker, I've read a lot that he's said the last 24 hours and it's really sad. He's still convincing himself he made the right decision.

CaneRock

I know there was some back & forth on if Jeff James' offer was commitable or not, but that kid CAN PLAY! I think He'll end up being a pleasant surprise, can't go wrong with the James Gang.

Old Skool

Dang if Mr. Byrd is that flighty ... sorry unstable and still making wild justifications to back-up his decision, perhaps, we should start a pool to bet on how long it will be before he transfers from Knoxville.

Lur-ker

Very weak minded.

Sometimes people reveal themselves and their character.

Fans tweeting at recruits very rarely ends well, but why would el pajaro even answer back on what is supposed to be the happiest day of his life. He said so many things to alienate himself from us (and outright lies) that even some of our coaches and players responded, even if it's in a veiled way.

UMike

Maybe its possible Coach Scott told him those things lol.. or other TN coaches. When were have been recently in trouble its easy to say those things to recruits. Oh well, we got a nice solid class without him.

CaneRock

This class would've been BETTER if they fired Golden in 2014, and had the foresight to hire a Tom Herman...that's what I was getting at. I understand the "it could've been worse sentiment", but it should've been better...goes both ways.

UMike

Im happy with the class, all things considered. Only 3 weeks to recruit, 3 weeks. We didn't have a mass exodus of recruits when it would of been expected. Got a top flight QB prospect, a hell of a LB crew, one of the best RB's in the State, easily the top 2-3 WR's in the state and snuck in a very talented TE.

What I might be most happy about is the restraint shown by CMR. It would of been easy to fill this class with reaches like Golden has for years.

Ohio, do you have a list of the places the guys "pushed out" landed?

CaneRock

Seriously, is Byrd LD? He's a 20 Y/O HS Sr., gave the the most absolute dumbest reasons for flipping...sounds LD to me.

UMike

CR...probably trying to avoid giving any reason that makes it look like he played us. Oh well, hes gone now. 2017 class is already shaping up to be a monster.

As scott handed him the envelope he told the kid hey Miami does this too! Stay away!

Ohio_Cane

Our 2017 class is #3 in the country right now. If we win the games we should, it stays there.

Ohio_Cane

--------------------------------------------

I can find it. It's not good. LOL

UMike

Ohio..I think you should, it will really tell a lot imo

UpNorthCane27

Wiggins- Illinois

Pierre- UNC

Phillips- Toledo

Hamilton- UCF

Ohio_Cane

ATH: Desmond Phillips - - Toledo
RB: Jawon Hamilton - UCF
WR/S: Reginald Henderson - MTSU (Mid Tenn St)
DE: Jaquwan Nelson - Syracuse
CB/WR: James Wiggins - Cincy
CB: Deion Jackson - Probably JUCO

I think I'm missing one...

UMike

See, thats what Im saying. CMR pushed out guys that Golden reached on and that more than likely would of just taken up a roster spot. Its possible Phillips could of played, but the rest are reaches.

Ohio_Cane

Jackson has an elite ceiling. Grades and personal life hurt him bad. He may never play again. Shame.

Henderson will be the best player in that conference. Grades issues too.

CaneRock

UMike...nobody knows what they would've done if Richt didn't push em' out, but I think Hamilton & Wiggins are gonna ball out at their respective schools.

UMike

Ohio.... true. But my point still stands lol..We dont need kids who can be the best in that conference, we need WR's that will be best in ACC and country. CMR showed a lot of restraint imo

UpNorthCane27

Deion Jackson should be a sign and place kid hopefully he goes away for prep or juco and then comes back to Miami and kills it with the canes

UMike

CR.. I agree, BUT its my opinion most of the guys pushed out were reaches, guys you take when you cant get others better. Theres a reason they ended up at the schools they did.

Ohio_Cane

Jackson couldn't get into a prep school, IMO. Has to be JUCO. Grades are that bad, and home life is worse. Feel bad for the kid.

Ohio_Cane

Unfortunately, Deion may end up another statistic...

WWIN

Why was it to be expected that recruits were suppose to leave when Golden was fired???

If you committed to Golden you could commit to ANYBODY... any player that was committed to Golden was really just committed to the school... so Golden getting fired was a PLUS in their eyes! Lol
