But was NOT to be...

Since Al got a new job, does that mean the U is off the hook for salary owed?

^^^^^^

Great question.

Do you see any of the local writers even attempting to answer that question?

All slackers.

I guess the Lions don't want to improve either...[]_[]

Go Canes!

New era, new optimism.

Richards and Byrd would make a great class. I realize it is tough for Byrd to part ways with someone he considers his "brother," but the Canes present a better opportunity for Byrd to make it into the NFL.

I recall watching Byrd play against Central in the playoffs at Traz Powell, and was thinking that Byrd was the best player on the field that night, and that included a FSU safety commit Cook for Central. A ton of Canes coaches were standing there on the sideline. These coaches were all subsequently let go by Richt. In the back of my mind, I wondered if that might effect Byrd if they kept in touch with him.

That night, Byrd clearly wanted to show Miami and the coaches at the U what he could do. Frankly, I was stunned by what I saw. I kept checking my iPhone, and I said there is no way that recruit is a three star. Manny Navarro was also there covering the game on the sideline. At that time, some bystanders on the sideline were saying Byrd is a "beast." Central fans said that they had do give him his due because he was very, very good. There was some chatter about Tennessee, but I think they were referring to Fils-Aime.

Bottom line is my uneducated theory is that I think that some local coaches could and their relationships with the Canes may have gone too far under Golden, in an effort to accommodate them by coopting them. With the petty jealousies and envies among local coaches, if the situation is not handled properly, it can create something of a toxic situation with the U and the local coaches. I think Richt is doing the right thing by hiring the coaches that he did. Only time will tell whether this will pay dividends, but I think the best way to get these recruits attention is to win and put players in the NFL. Results in these two areas mean everything to these local recruits and their families, while everything else is just talk and used car salesmanship.

I believe that it takes away from the total but he is entitled to the difference. I'm pretty sure the school is on the hook up and until Al makes a coaching salary equal to or greater than what UM owes him over the term of the buyout.

Thanks Sarasota!

Lady Canes go down to Syracuse 57-51...damn near nobody at that game, reminded me of the games at the ole' JLKC.

The interview with dno in the article is classic

My $$ was on OGV kickin noD's ass. Except noD would've played 15 yards off him and started running backward the second the bell rung.

Anything can happen in the ACC. UVa crushes Louisville by 20 on Saturday. Two days later, Louisville beats UNC. The ACC is deep, and no team is capable of winning by just showing up. Canes play Notre Dame on Wednesday, and they need to win to keep their ACC title hopes alive. If the Canes do not bring their A game, they will not win and their hopes for an ACC title will fade

Great article from the archives, Soup. LMAO, at the D-No quotes. Best interview by any reporter during D-No's tenure. You must have studied at the Barbara Walters' school of getting an interviewee to reveal his true self because that interview captured D-No's true essence and character

TonyCane

"That is why this off season and this recruiting class was so important. Getting bigger and stronger was our priority."

And yet the S&C program went awry, at least in some cases!

Let's give credit where it is due. The 2012 class did not come in under normal circumstances, but six months removed from the break on the Shapiro scandal. The previous staff deserves credit for pulling in the kids that they did, she has as Duke, Deon Bush, ect.

TonyCane

Such as Duke, I mean

I'd prefer not to.
Too painful to look at all the broken dreams from years past at a time when everybody's looking for signs of a better future.

Old Skool

So if Al is going to be working in Detroit, will D'No follow or have they broken up?

I thought Al was hired by the Cowboys

He had an interview but was never hired by the cowboys.

UMike

oh ok raize, I read/thought wrong.

Go Canes!

No surprises yet, don't expect any.

Everybody sign on the line and get ready for 2016!

UMike

There will be a surprise tomorrow. Well maybe for you lol

raizecane

Scout and Rivals still has Miami outside of the top 20 in recruiting. Is this based on the fact we only have 17 to date?

UMike

raize..could be. In the years we were ranked high under Golden it wasnt because of stars, but numbers. On Rivals our star average of 3.29 is better than Standard (#13) and TCU (#16) but they have 25/22 recruits. Now Clemson and Bama both have only 17 commits, but they average 3.71 stars. Thats dam near a whole class or 4-Stars or better. So since we arent loaded with 4-Stars and have no 5-Stars, we would need 25 or more recruits to break the top 10 imo

UMike

Of Bama's 17 commits, 10 are 4-5 Stars... of our 17 only 6 are.

UMike

Should be noted that Bethal, Homer and Pinckney are ranked 4-Stars by other major services besides Rivals.

UMike

ESPN, who I think is more accurate has us ranked 14th with 11 4-Star Players. I believe this is a more accurate view of our class.

I agree. From the recruits I have seen play in High School, we have some good players.

trianglecane

But Coach D would have none of that. He gripped my hand tightly, pulled me close, looked me in the eye and said in a low voice:

"Tell OGV I would like to have a word with him. In private. And soon."
___________________________________________

If NoD fights like he coaches I'm pretty sure he would have had OGV looking like Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini.

Dude on a Pale Horse

Was listening to CaneSport podcast, (Gary Ferman) he said some of Miami's recruits should have gotten a 4th star, Zach McCloud certainly.

Duke was going to UM regardless of the who the HC was. In an interview with Manny, Duke said the only way He wouldn't have ended up at UM, was if they shut down the football program. Duke was as 305 as it gets.

Bush was pretty much a legacy, IIRC, both of His parents played sports at UM.

Tracy Howard was the harder "pull", but you can barely even give Golden credit for Him. That was mostly TH3's Mom, via Shalala.

CaneRock

And LOL @ D'Onofrio throwing shade at the 2011 kids in that article. 4 years later, that defense was statistically the best defense He ever fielded at UM.

Go Canes!

Pretty cool how Buchannon and Van Dyke are sending encouragement to Byrd and Richards.

Wonder if CMR is on board with that..

Ohio_Cane

CMR can't know about that. LOL

Plausible deniability
