Junior catcher Zack Collins was selected in the first round of the 2016 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Chicago White Sox Thursday night, becoming the first Hurricane drafted in the first round since 2010.
Collins, a Baseball America first-team All-American, was selected 10th overall by Chicago. He is the first Hurricane to be selected by the White Sox since the 2009 season, and the 14th MLB first-round selection in Miami history.
“It’s indescribable, a dream come true for me,” Collins said. “I’m very excited to hopefully compete for a national championship coming up, and then get my professional career started for the White Sox. I’m proud to be a part of such a great organization.”
The lefthanded slugger delivered another dominant season both hitting and behind the plate in 2016. A finalist for the Johnny Bench Award honoring the nation’s top catcher, Collins is also a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award presented by USA Baseball and the Dick Howser Trophy, honoring the nation’s top collegiate player.
“I had an idea of where I was going to go, but there’s nothing like hearing the commissioner of the MLB [Rob Manfred] call your name,” Collins said. “My dad was crying, just hugging him, celebrating with my family, knowing that all the hard work that has been put into it has finally paid off…it was an amazing feeling.”
Collins has batted .358 for the season with team-leading totals of 13 home runs and 53 RBI. His 69 walks are tops amongst all players nationwide, while his .534 on-base percentage and .631 slugging percentage are also team highs and rank among the ACC’s best figures.
The Pembroke Pines, Fla., native continued his ascent into the Miami record books with another prolific year, and currently ranks among the top 10 all-time in both home runs and RBI as a Hurricane.

Cavs regress to the mean, shoot 24% from beyond the arc and this series is officially over.
With the massive glut of unmovable contracts on that roster think it's safe to say their championship window is closed for good.
Shame LeBron thought he could be Pat Riley. Probably cost himself one or two more titles.

Can't say that about this franchise. For decades Riley has always shaped the rosters here with teams capable of winning it all.
He's played Showtime ball with LA, down and dirty with the Knicks and Heat with Zo, then completely overhauled his rosters multiple times to help DWade and LeBron get their rings.
Cleveland will flounder fter this while the Heat will constantly be competitive.

The u leaves the bases loaded with only 2 plated in the 4th, and poor d in the bottom of the 4th now gives bc a 4-2 lead with runners on the corners and 2 out. Ugly. Gotta hit the road. Hope the rest of the afternoon is better.

Lots of upsets in super openers, as in 6 of the first 7. Today saw ucsb beat louisville, ok st won, and fsu beat the turds. Much as i hate fsu, still always like to see fu go down. Just waiting on lsu to see the last first game finished. None of it matters though, as the u winning the first game doesn't cover the series. Let's hope high noon works out. So far this baseball season doesn't show anyone looking dominant.

Go:
Can't watch that 1988 horrific fumble called vs cleveland gary again. The right call would have caused the u to truly be a dynasty, as winning three straight championships between 1987-1989.

I'm not a huge Trump fan, but Trump has never said anything like this.
You're attributing your prejudiced remarks to him, when he never said anything like that.
There's a lot to be discussed about this, but to say the majority of any group is a certain way, is wrong. Dead wrong.
Stick to trying to prove to people you know something about basketball.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Or some saying like that.
In principle, I'd agree with some level of gun control given the sheer number and degree of these incidents. However, taking away the people's (fire)power vs a government which is not to be trusted -- including the Obama administration! -- could potentially have catastrophic and abusive governmental consequence. Please see Operation Fast and Furious where the (Obama) gov willingly armed the Mexican drug cartels with automatic weapons leading to countless civilian casualties and effectively terrorist takeover of a large region of Mexico. Any government who does such things is never to be trusted on gun control and this administration is perhaps the most guilty.

With all due respect RCCF,

I support gun control too, but any discussion about gun control needs to be prefaced witb the acknowledgemnt that Americans have a right to so called "assault weapons."

Bases loaded. One out. Barr at the plate. Canes leading 5-3, bottom 5th
Posted by: Lur-ker | June 12, 2016 at 02:15 PM
Barr at the plate still. 1-2.
Posted by: Lur-ker | June 12, 2016 at 02:15 PM
2-2
Posted by: Lur-ker | June 12, 2016 at 02:16 PM
Double play. Inning over.
Actually runner at first was safe, should have been a fielder's choice RBI, bit runner slid into second, so they're calling the third out and no run plated. Still 5-3
