From 1983 until the 2015 season, Coastal Carolina's athletic programs competed in NCAA Division I as a member of the Big South Conference, while the football team competed in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision or FCS. On September 1, 2015, Coastal Carolina announced they would leave the Big South Conference following the 2015–16 school year to transition to FBS-level football and the Sun Belt Conference. The university will join in all sports except for football starting July 1, 2016, with football joining in 2017.[24]

The football team plays at the 9,214-seat Brooks Stadium, which is notable for its teal artificial turf.[25] Following the announcement of the university joining the Sun Belt Conference, Brooks Stadium will undergo construction to expand the stadium to 20,000 seats; the NCAA requires FBS programs to maintain an average attendance of at least 15,000 over a rolling two-year cycle. The addition will complete a lower level seating bowl between the home, visitors and student sections, as well as adding a second level to the section backing up to S.C. 544.[26]

Coastal's athletic teams were once known as the Trojans. But once the school established an affiliation with the University of South Carolina, the decision was made to select a mascot in line with the parent institution's mascot, the Gamecock. The ultimate choice was the Chanticleer (pronounced SHON-ti-clear), the proud, witty rooster made famous in "The Nun's Priest's Tale" of Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales. The university's teams are affectionately known as the Chants (pronounced "shonts") and the mascot itself is named Chauncey. When Coastal Carolina became an independent university in 1993, despite some calls for "a complete split from USC" (i.e., change the mascot), the Chanticleer remained the school's mascot. The mascot is one of the most distinctive in all of college sports.[27]

In 2013, TD Bank gave CCU a $5 million gift. In September 2014, CCU officially renamed all its sports facilities TD Sports Complex

They should be, CaneRock. Cavs will win this series. Guaranteed.

thirstybuzzardcane

If it wasn't for Cavs poor free throw shooting in game 4 they would be up in the series right now....And they forgot how to play defense too!

raizecane

NBA making sure this series goes 7 games.....they suspend Green for something much less severe than what happened in the OKC game and not calling any fouls on the CAVS....Pathetic.

Lebron feeds off people talking crap about him. You never want to wake up a sleeping giant! I bet he wish he could have game 4 back.....really don't no why he played complacent.

You can't blame the refs. They have been letting the players play, which makes it a fun game to watch.

So what is UM getting in 5-6 Bowie-Md. prep Class of 2017 point guard Chris Lykes, who orally committed to Miami on Sunday?

ESPN rates him the 46th best player in the 2017 class and the ninth best point guard prospect. The ESPN scouting report:

Strengths: Lykes is a tough, competitive scoring point guard that possess excellent speed and quickness. He changes speed and directions on a dime as well. Lykes has a tight handle, probes the defense and has good court vision. He can stop and pop in the open court with range to the arc and will not hesitate to advance pass when a teammate is ahead on the break. Lykes has an excellent pull up jumper off the catch or when attacking off on ball screens. He can run the offense and deliver the ball as he attacks as well. Lykes is explosive for his size and plays with swag.

Weaknesses: Lykes will need to be more of a vocal leader as he runs his team. Work to get others involved more at times and keep working on improving as an on ball defender.

Bottom Line: Lykes is a constant threat on the offensive end of the floor. He can go wherever he wants with the ball. His handle and court vision is excellent and he is a crafty passer and finisher. He can really score the ball in a variety of ways despite his size and compete with toughness. Lykes is a high major prospect because of his ability to score and pass with continued development.

• UM will play Arizona in its College World Series opener at 8 p.m. Saturday. Oklahoma State and UC-Santa Barbara also are in UM’s bracket.

• Respected UF AD director Jeremy Foley announced his retirement today, and the first question that came to mind was whether his to-be-determined successor will be more inclined to schedule UM-UF football games more regularly. As Foley (who I always found to be accessible) explained repeatedly, he didn’t believe it made sense for UM and UF to play annually because of UF’s need for an extra non-conference home game most years. (Left unsaid was the fact UF already has a difficult schedule, with SEC games and FSU every year).

Foley agreed to open the 2019 season against UM in Orlando but indicated no interest in playing Miami beyond that. UF coach Jim McElwain obviously also will have a big say in any decision regarding how often to play UM.

When asked in April about the 2019 game against Miami, McElwain said: “It’s something we’ve talked about… It’s definitely not one of those things that we’re dodging them, I’ll say that.”

UM AD Blake James has consistently said he's willing to play UF more often, and Mark Richt said last week that he's also interested in that.

I'd be surprised if UF agrees to play UM more, but at least the new AD might take a fresh look.

Here's a report by recruiting correspondent Peter Ariz on Mark Richt's chat with the media Saturday morning... (picture above by Peter)

On the third day of the Mark Richt Football Camp on the University of Miami campus, Miami’s coach spoke about the impact of social media on recruiting and assessed how the south Florida recruiting base compares to Georgia’s.

Richt, who was one of the most successful recruiters in the country during his time in Athens, Georgia as the Bulldogs’ coach, believes that the two areas are more comparable than people might realize.

“There’s a lot more similarities than difference, in my opinion,” said Richt. “Even the Metro Atlanta area is similar to the tri-county area here as far as number of prospects, proximity to your school – you’re always going to have a certain percentage that want to go to your school and you’re going to have a certain percentage that just flat out want to go away from home and you’re going to have the ones in the middle that we will battle for.”

As far as the types of prospects that the Miami staff targets, Coach Richt said there are a certain criteria that they look for in terms of “a height, weight, maybe not necessarily always a 40, but speed, and agility.” If a recruit does not fit exactly what they want, that is not the end of the line in Richt’s eyes.

“Now if a guy is a little shorter than you want him to be, then he’s got to be a little more dynamic. I’ve had great receivers this tall and I’ve had great receivers that tall. So I’m not going to say a receiver has got to be 6-foot or 6’3”, or a guy has to run a 4.6 or 4.4,” said Richt.

“If a guy doesn’t quite fit the criteria you have, he’s gotta be a highly productive guy or a guy that has the growth potential to become what you want him to become.”

The emergence of social media has changed recruiting in many ways, but Richt explained that it is a part of the evaluation process for his staff.

“If he’s a guy that we are highly interested in, or we’ve offered, or he’s committed, we watch it very closely,” said Richt.

“I’ve let guys go – at Georgia, there was a kid we had committed and he had stuff on there that really wasn't good. He was representing us so we told him ‘don’t do that’ and then he ‘yes sirred’ us and changed his little handle or whatever you wanna call it and kept doing the same thing. Apparently he didn’t care about what we were saying so we told him we were moving on.”

Richt says that his coaches speak to the recruit’s “head coach, position coach, if they have a strength coach, a team chaplain, the principal, a counselor, teachers in class” and added, “if there’s something you need to find out then you probably will.”

Although a roster full of high character student-athletes is what Richt is striving for at Miami, he understands that no kid is perfect. He explained how they try to prevent issues from arising.

“We try to capture the heart of our guys and tell them we love them. Any rule we have is really based on trying to help you be great. Help you be a great father, husband, citizen, college football player, whatever their desires are,” said Richt. “If they know our motivations then I think they respond well. Rules have never made people behave. Laws have never made people behave. Usually you make good decisions based on what you have in your heart.”

Mr Moneymaker

Warriors played perhaps their worst game of the post season, was missing a vital starter, Kyrie and LeBron had two of the best post season games ever, the officiating was monumentally bad...and it was a six point game midway through the fourth.

If they don't go 3-21 down the stretch from 3, most of which were wide open looks, they could have broken Cleveland's back late and won the whole thing last night.

Barnes was absolutely awful and now GS is looking at the possibility of a winner take all game 7.

Should never have gotten that far but when you shoot that poorly for the entire second half of a clinching game, you get stuck in a dog fight.

Im all for more basketball. It will be fun.

It has not been a good week for the City Beautiful.

1) Singer gets shot / killed after concert
2) Mass shooting with 49 victims
3) 2 yr old dragged by a gator at a Disney Resort.

Thirsty - I visit Disney Springs often and in a way, wish the shooter had gone there instead. Here is why - At the Pulse, it's crowed, loud establishment where nobody other than the shooter would carry a weapon. Disney Springs is wide open...yes more people but also more likely a lot more folks with their CCP on hand.

Regardless, you are correct. Tell your family you love them and be aware of your surroundings at all times.

And like SOUP always says - nothing good happens after midnight.

I don't have a problem with any of the weapons currently available at your local gun store, AR 15, AK 47 whatever, they just need to be more difficult to acquire and need more seriousness around the keeping of them.

^^^ Based on that I'm looking for Yearby and Gus to be rolling. Richards and Bruce will get burn. Front 7 will be the best we've had in years. Will Jaquan play nickle corner? The freshman corner Young I think? will get a lot of play time too. 10 wins is probable.

I'm sorry, I think they just need to ban weapons like the AR15s,AKs,etc.. I don't see any use for those weapons besides recreational, or inflicting carnage. I mean, do people really use ARs to hunt?
