I mean, do people really use ARs to hunt?

Posted by: CaneRock | June 15, 2016 at 10:50 AM

*********************************

Everyone who I know that has one uses it for recreation only, or competition. They are fun to shoot but not used for hunting.

And like SOUP always says - nothing good happens after midnight.

I thought Randy Shannon said that?....lol

You come on vacation with your 2 Y/O, and now you have to return without em'...sad.

Just Awful. Its my understanding there were "no swimming allowed" signs posted. However, no mention of gators being present. Technically, the child was not swimming but standing in a foot of water. The family from Nebraska may be able to litigate but I am not a lawyer to make that conclusion.

They do.

I don't have a problem with any of the weapons currently available at your local gun store, AR 15, AK 47 whatever, they just need to be more difficult to acquire and need more seriousness around the keeping of them.

Posted by: The Dude | June 15, 2016 at 09:11 AM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Agree. You should have to go through the FBI to get them. I know to get a silencer for a gun, you have to go through a whole process to get one. The FBI is involved as well as your local Sheriff. That's how it should be for an assault rifle.

We all can agree though that the criminals are going to get what they want on the black market!

Go Canes!

If you want Swiss cheese styled venison it's great for hunting.

thirstybuzzardcane

^^^^^Many ARs allow you to switch out the upper receiver and bolt carrier group making it shoot different calibers.

NicKane

Go Canes!
Anyone who thinks this country doesn't need some form of sensible gun control is out of their freaking minds.

I am all for the Second Amendment, but come on, give me a break with some of the weapons being sold to just about anyone who walks in the door today.

Posted by: Go Canes! | June 15, 2016 at 08:50 AM

I agree with this 100% and I'm one of the biggest 2nd amendment guys around. I think it's a no brainier fix to implement a ban on buying a gun if you out on the no fly list or terrorist watch list. No brainier! Because had that already been implemented, that POS coward would have never been able to buy his guns.

-------------------------------------

It's not an automatic weapon...

Ps - if there's ever an invasion where I have to "bug out" and live in the wilderness. My AR15 will be my hunting weapon of choice.

The Dude

ARs are used to hunt wolves in Idaho. And coyotes.

The Dude

If you had to go through your Sheriff to get a permit, then a license with endorsements, and had to keep up a registration like a car, I think we'd see a big drop in violence. A lot of gun guys say a registry is an overreach, invasion of privacy and so on. But the militias used a registry, they needed to know their fighting strength, so I say the governors should have access to the names of the owners of fighting rifles.

The Dude

So many lies about rifles out there that people have misunderstandings about them. A pistol in .357 would have been just as deadly in Orlando.

CR, whether you think they should be banned or not is kind of besides the point though bro and here's why. If people really push to ban them, gun owners will dig their heels in and prevent anything from passing. Its the ultimate unifier in our community. I really hope that doesn't happen this time.

The Dude

This is how stupid gun laws are. I'm not required to report my rifle stolen. Just like that, poof, it no longer exists.

TonyCane

Disney needs to drain that lake. It was built with swimming in mind back in the 60s, when the gator population was quite low. The Floridian was built in the 80s with swimming in mind. RIver Countrybused to connect to it.

Now it is utterly infested with gators. It's a man made lagoon...drain it and get rid of the problem.

CaneRock

TD & NicKane...how pro-NRA are ya'll?

Lur-ker

AR type weapons are basically rifles, just "scarier" looking.

So you would be banning rifles that look scary.

Fully automatic weapons are not available to the average citizens.

Before we go crazy making, changing, or repealing laws, people need to truly get educated about guns, gun laws, the second amendment.

Nothing good comes without careful examination, reflection, and thorough understanding. Raw emotions, heartbreak and pain are normal, but acting irrevocably under the fog of strong emotion can lead to unintended consequences.

Ohio_Cane

Everything that guy did with the AR15 I can do with my Glock 9mm pistol. Both semi-auto, both can hold around 35 rounds (with extended Glock mags that I have), both kill people, etc.

TonyCane

When I say drained, I mean drain it permanently. Replace it with a few smaller, strategically isolated lakes that gators cannot get into easily. Use the rest of the area as parkland or a future resort site.

It's either that, a MASSIVELY gator hunt, or a substantial reconstruction of the lakeside areas for ea h of the Disney hotels.

Lur-ker

Exactly right, Ohio.

Let's just be sensible and knowledgeable.

Ohio_Cane

If you want to get technical, it's better that he used the AR.

If he had TWO GLOCK PISTOLS, one for each hand, he could've done far more damage. Can't hold an AR and another weapon (not easily, anyways).

SinisterCane

Coach Richt let me give my testimony to the team today! You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only option you have! TY

CaneRock

Well, regardless of where you stand on the issue, I think we can all agree that NOBODY on a NFL should be eligible to purchase a gun. And short of a ban, I agree with TD's recommendations...

"If you had to go through your Sheriff to get a permit, then a license with endorsements, and had to keep up a registration like a car, I think we'd see a big drop in violence."

Ohio_Cane

Violence, for the most part, isn't happening from registered gun owners who are obtaining them legally.

Granted, the Orlando shooter was, but most gun violence and crimes are with stolen weapons.

The Dude

Posted by: CaneRock | June 15, 2016 at 01:57 PM

I think they're a mixed bag.

Posted by: Ohio_Cane | June 15, 2016 at 03:00 PM

True. But there's also those that aren't. We may never be able to completely stop mass shootings and still have any kind of guns. But if all guns were registered and required background checks and thefts were required to be reported, you might see the illegal gun trade dry up.

NativeCane

Native FloridIan's used to keep gators in check because we hunted them. Now they are protected and have learned not to fear humans.
Actually I see a parallel between gators and terrorists.

Super Pro NRA canerock. It's us good peoples only defense against enemies foreign and domestic. And most importantly it's the only thing that keeps politicians from further abusing there powers or even a dictatorship as they know they'll be another Revolutionary war brought right to there doorsteps in Washington. Now with that said I believe there needs to be some better policies put in place to keep the guns out of the bad people's hands and I think a big part of that can be done by banning people on the no fly list and terrorist watch list from buying a weapon. I think that's a no brainier and I can't understand why that hasn't already been put in place.

SinisterCane

GO CANEZ??? lol

Lur-ker

Gators are nasty pests and in no way endangered today. Many many years ago they were, but I'm not even sure of that.

Over 1 million gators in Florida. They're nasty, slimy, live in filth, and breed like rats, just like the two legged variety

The Dude

Hell, we have a bunch of gators in Idaho.

Big@$$ rats & snakes?...no thanks, I'll take the gator:

"Interactions with exotic species

"Nutria were introduced into coastal marshes from South America in the mid-1900s, and their population has since exploded into the millions. They cause serious damage to coastal marshes and may dig burrows in levees. Hence, Louisiana has had a bounty to try to reduce nutria numbers. Large alligators, however, feed heavily on nutria, so alligators may not only control nutria populations in Louisiana, but also prevent them spreading east into the Everglades. Since hunting and trapping preferentially take the large alligators that are the most important in eating nutria, some changes in harvesting may be needed to capitalize on their ability to control nutria.

Recently, a population of Burmese pythons became established in Everglades National Park. Substantial alligator populations in the Everglades may be a contributing factor in keeping the python populations low, preventing the spread of the species up north. While events of predation by Burmese pythons on young alligators have been observed, no evidence of a net negative effect has been seen on overall alligator populations."

2nd amendment was for the people to protect themselves from a tyrannical government.

not hunting, not sport or leisure.

everybody seems to be missing the point.

The Dude

^^^ I don't think everyone was missing the point. Some had questions, some don't care, most are sick of bloodshed.

TonyCane

Don't forget the green anacondas that have shown up in the Everglades, or the Nile crocodiles now likely breeding with their American cousins.

SOUP

Just a few weeks ago, they found a gator in a sewage drain in front of my sister in law's house.

Most UM coaches get stuff from me, or Da Space players in general or our late night after game parties at The Hampton or La Quinta hotels. There was this time that we were drinking on the patio at The Hampton LATE into the night that stuff went down. There were naked people in the pool, hotel rooms were destroyed and some lives were close to being lost.

Then, we woke up...and the Canes had WON!

We went back to sleep.

TonyCane

I saw today that this 15 foot alligator on a Florida golf course was real!
