Our Florida A&M game will already be played at FAU.

"Stadium may not be ready until November"? LOL, ok...

This is only old, irrelevant, played-out, gambling degenerate, fat Hank Goldberg guessing.

Until I hear something from a more reliable source, I wouldn't worry.

Canes may not have many games at Sun Life Stadium (or whatever the new name is). This could get ugly, and cost UM a lot of $. Dolphins organization is gonna pay if they don't speed this s#it up...

This is an absolute power move by Richt for recruiting. Bringing in old players to coach? Genius. It's about time someone did it.

I personally guarantee a commit that weekend.

Go Canes!

Fran drops the hammer.

Awesome stuff.

SOUP

Windy...Not yet convinced about Kaaya. He is good but can he be GREAT? He has never won a game on his own. This year Richt will let us know.

BigWindyCane1

CMR does have some work to do but they knew that going in and this staff is putting in the work.

Recruits will realize that even with all the recent struggles, The Canes have put more players in the NFL than FSU and UF, and once the Canes start winning again, more recruits will follow. The current recruiting class is very good, and the 2016 class is small but the quality is very very good. The players that they have that I have seen play, like Bruce, Jackson, Richards, Shaq and others - these are impact players with NFL potential written all over them. CMR is laying the foundation for a lot of success. Kaaya is going to light it up next season. Just need that OL to protect Kaaya and open holes for the RBs

The previous staff were good recruiters, but produced a five year stretch of subpar results on the field that set the program back in the eyes of many, many people. I don't think that we fully realize how big of a hole was dug last year with the two blowouts, as well as the sixth consecutive loss to your primary instate opponent. Just like the NCAA opened a window of opportunity for Florida and FSU in 2011 and 2012, the last two seasons opened yet another. Richt has to hit the ground running and win some big games to dispel this stench of failure. Art Briles won for five years at Baylor, and only this offseason was he finally able to land a good recruiting class. It takes time - and an opponents missteps - to clear the stench of failure.

Rivals via CIS:

Honesty is an elusive commodity in recruiting. Most things a prospect, coach, reporter or fan hears on the subject is said with intent, run through a series of mental filters and polished for the sake of public relations. Everyone loves everything until they don’t.

Remove names from the equation, however, and things get a little more forthright. So that’s exactly what Rivals.com has done. We recently grated anonymity to four Florida-based prospects and asked them a series of 10 questions about the state’s three power conference programs: Florida, Florida State and Miami. The answers generated were forthright and free of sugarcoating.

- Each of the four involved prospect is from the state for Florida.

- Each of the four involved prospect holds more than 10 Power Five offers

- Each of the four involved prospect is currently ranked four stars or higher

Below are the questions and each prospect’s responses.

Which program is on the most solid footing right now?

Recruit A

“Florida State, for sure. Then I feel like it’s Miami and then Florida after them.”

Recruit B

“Florida State.”

Recruit C

“Probably Florida because of coach [Jim McElwain]. I would actually put Miami second and the FSU third. I’m looking for Miami to make a jump. I feel like FSU is about to flat line.”

Recruit D

“Florida State is, of course, on the most solid footing.”

Which program do you think will be best in the state four years from now?

Recruit A

“It’s still going to be Florida State. I just don’t see them falling off or anything soon.”

Recruit B

“It’s still going to be Florida State, They are set up.”

Recruit C

“I think Miami because of that staff.”

Recruit D

“Four years from now? That’s tough. I feel like it’s all going to be pretty close. I feel like Mark Richt will have UM up to that Florida State stage. They both have a lot of guys coming in now. Daniel Wright and Stanford Samuels just committed there. And then, with Miami and Sam Bruce and those guys … I think it’s going to be really close.”

Who is the best recruiter on any of the in-state staffs?

Recruit A

“I like Coach [Kerry] Dixon from Florida. He keeps it cool. He keeps it 100, like me. He’s a good coach, too. He can relate to us kids and the players real good.”

Recruit B

“Coach Randy Shannon from Florida. He keeps it real. He tells me what he feels about me and other recruits. He isn’t looking at who has already offered or what you are ranked. He just wants the best players. He isn’t just saying things to get you to go there.”

Recruit C

“From the Florida schools it’s probably coach [Doug Nussmeier]. Coach Nuss is pretty good at recruiting. I think coach [Ron] Dugans is good at Miami, too. He does a great job.

Recruit D

“Best recruiter? Probably [Assistant Director of Player Personnel Jorge] Baez at Miami.

What is the biggest perk and drawback of Miami?

Recruit A

“The worst thing -- and I know there’s violence everywhere -- but the worst thing is the environment. You can get easily affected or sucked in. There are a lot of things to influence you. The best part is that they put you in the league. It’s a great program and a great weight program. They get you ready.”

Recruit B

“The best thing is that new coaching staff. That staff is better than the old one. The worst thing is that they’re still not going to win.”

Recruit C

“The education is really good. The education at Miami is the best thing, but it’s in kind of a weird location because they don’t have their own stadium and the fanbase sorta sucks.

Recruit D

“The best thing is that you end up in the league signing a check after Miami. The worst thing would probably be the heat.”

What is the biggest perk and drawback of Florida?

Recruit A

“With Florida, I’m really going off the media mostly, but it seems like it’s easy to get caught up or kicked out of school there. It seems like you could get in trouble messing with females there. The great thing is the tradition and that program. That is a place with great history.”

Recruit B

“At Florida, the best thing is the campus. I like that campus. The worst thing is, they still aren’t going to win a national championship anytime soon.”

Recruit C

“I like the girls at Florida. I would say that FSU has the best girls, but Florida has good girls and the best tradition. The Swamp is really cool. The worst thing is that everything is so old. All the facilities look really old. The campus is nice and all, but it’s getting dated.”

Recruit D

“Best thing, I’d have to say, is probably the college town. The worst thing would have to be the weather.”

What is the biggest perk and downside of Florida State?

Recruit A

“Worst thing about it is probably the environment and the town. The good thing is that it’s a winning program.”

Recruit B

“The best thing is that they are always going to be in the running for a national championship. The worst thing is … really nothing. I can’t think of anything that is just really bad. They’re the best right now.”

Recruit C

The best thing is definitely the girls. It’s just a straight college town, and I like it. Tallahassee is crazy and all about football. The education isn’t as good there, though.”

Recruit D

“Best thing is winning championships. The worst thing would probably be … well, I can’t really name anything bad right now. I need to get to know it more.”

Which coaching staff feels the most genuine?

Recruit A

“Florida State for sure.”

Recruit B

“Probably Florida because of coach Shannon. He’s always up front and honest.”

Recruit C

“Probably Florida. They were straightforward with me about everything.”

Recruit D

“Florida State.”

Which staff feels the most phony?

Recruit A

“Florida.”

Recruit B

“Florida State. Coach Bill Miller has told me a bunch of times that he is going to come back and offer me, but he never actually does. He just says it then it never happens.”

Recruit C

“FSU was shady with me. They would, like, tell me to camp there and beg me to come and then just not ever say anything to me. They were just really sketchy about how many guys they wanted to take and what they were doing.”

Recruit D

“Florida.”

If the three Florida schools were the only options available to you, which one would you choose?

Recruit A

“I’d go to Florida State.”

Recruit B

“Florida. I’d pick Florida if I was picking between them right now.”

Recruit C

“That’s a tough one. Definitely not Miami. I’m not a big fan of Miami. Honestly? Probably Florida. I liked Florida growing up and they just have a good education and good football.”

Recruit D

Right now? If I’m picking today … I know Florida is out of the question. Hmmm. Oh my God. This is hard. I guess I’d have to say Miami.”

Whoa baby...

Ohio_Cane

No way Westbrook will commit long-term. Not now, at least. Durant just left and salary cap goes way up next Summer. He'd be stupid to sign a long-term deal now. Sign a 1 year or 2 year with player option after 1 and re-sign for the "new" max next year. Durant did same. Lebron will too.

30CINCO

OKC will try to get Westbrook to commit to a long term deal. If he doesn't commit being there long term, Riley needs to be on OKC for a trade.

Look forward to a great football season under CMR. I expect the Canes to make the top 10 and win the coastal, this coaching staff is that good. The DL has the most talent it has had in years, and has a the best DL coach in America to coach them up. I see all ACC DLs on this roster.

The men's basketball team is also poised to make a serious run at an ACC and NCAA title. I think this team will actually be better than last year's team, and Coach L has built a foundation that will lead to sustainable ACC title chances year after year.

Not so fast! Because Miami lost out on the Durant sweepstakes, and Deng and other Miami free agents have signed with other teams, the Heat has the cap space - and no other viable option to replace D Wade. So, Riley will probably move more aggressively now to re-sign him.

Ariz:

Top JUCO CB Dean has Miami ties

Miami is after one of the top junior college cornerbacks in the country, Jhavonte Dean. The 6-2, 180-pound CB is originally from Homestead, Florida and graduated from South Dade high school in 2015 where he won a state title. Now at Blinn JUCO in Texas, he is on his way to an even bigger school.

Dean signed with Cincinnati a year and a half ago, but was not able to qualify directly out of high school. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise though, as Dean has blossomed into a highly coveted cornerback target for some top programs.

“Coming out of high school, I was supposed to go to Cincinnati, but my SAT scores didn’t meet the requirements. The DB coach there ended up placing me here,” said Dean.

“It humbled me a lot because I was not heavily recruited when I was in high school and now that big schools are interested in me, it’s big ups to me and it humbles me. If it wasn't for my DB coach at Cincinnati, I don’t know where I’d be.”

Alabama, Florida, and Miami have all offered Dean. That has not changed his fiber as a player.

“I’ve never been a talker. You’ll never find me talking to a receiver after a play or bragging because that could get taken away in a second with an injury or something. I just like to play ball.”

Dean was reluctant to name any favorites in his recruitment even though he said he plans on committing in September.

“As of now, all schools are recruiting me so it’s tough to give you a top list or anything like that. I’m still doing the research on the schools that can help me grow as a player on-and-off the field,” said Dean.

There is one factor that definitely sticks out above all to the speedy corner from down south.

“To be honest, I probably look at the depth chart situation every other day because I’m so concerned with what I have in front of me. I need to know who is leaving and all of that. That will be a big thing for me to come in and play right away because I’m a JUCO player and I need to be able to play right away.”

Miami does have something in their favor being the hometown school. There are a few guys at Miami that he knows very well.

“Cedrick Wright, Joseph Jackson, and Dionte Mullins…we were all teammates with the Florida City Razorbacks back in the day so we all know how each other play,” said Dean.

Dean is still in the process of connecting with the Canes coaches, as Miami offered only a couple weeks back.

“Coach Baez was the one who called me and told me about the offer, so hopefully I can get to know the DB coaches a little better over there,” he said.

“Obviously things didn’t work out when Al Golden was the coach and he got the boot, but I know that Mark Richt came from a winning program from Georgia and you can see that he knows what he’s doing. I’m with what he’s doing to get Miami back on track and get them with some Ws again this season,” said Dean.

Dean also called recent 2018 Miami commit D.J. Ivey, “his little brother”. Ivey goes to South Dade, which is where Dean went.

Gray will have his chance this year under CMR. Whether Gray balls out or not, I trust these Canes coaches to make the right decisions. I didn't think he was being developed under the previous staff, and he is the one RB on the Canes roster that I feel has the ability (power, size and speed) to pose a big-play threat to defenses any time he is on the field.

If Gray does not produce under this staff, it's on him. This staff knows what they are doing

Lur-ker

...but while both WR & RB require ball security, I don't think you handle the ball as long at WR, as you do at RB.

Posted by: CaneRock | July 02, 2016 at 02:27 PM

You don't, that's true. But you get scared with WRs when they're running in open space and someone is tracking them from behind and slapping at the ball, or when they're being gang tackled.

I have no idea how his hands are for catching the ball either.

I don't have anything against him, not at all. I also know his measurables are excellent. Height weight speed etc. they're all top-notch.

But, and this is a big but, a lot of people have had excellent measurables but aren't necessarily good football players. There are people with less impressive measurables that are better football players. I just wonder if Gray is one of those people who looks good and runs like the wind, but might actually not be a good football player at the college level

I do know one thing, whether at running back or wide receiver, if Richt can't find a way to get him the ball, it's because he's not comfortable with his reliability. That's a huge thing.

thirstybuzzardcane

^^^^Heat are doomed if they don't.

He has good hands?

We'll see. So far, he's known more for fumbling than having good hands.

If Richt doesn't use him, then we'll know the issue is him. If he's as good as everyone says he is, Richt will find a place for him. If he doesn't, that will answer a lot of questions.

Again, we've been through this so many times, no matter who the coach: Greentree legends that never see the field.

NicKane

I agree with that CR, the kid has good hands and with the way cmr plays he's backs in the passing game maybe that's there vision for him. All I know is if they get the kid the ball in space, he's gone! Just like cook up there in tally.

NicKane

I always felt that good college position coaches recognize talent and get the best out of their players - their job and reputation depend on it. I always felt that Ice should have given Choc more attention. Ice favored Yearby and WALTON. Glad to see this staff getting Choc to put in the work. I would love to see him get coached up and give the Canes a true speed and power threat out of the backfield because they lacked that last season. I am also sure that Kaaya would love a weapon like that. A speedy threat in the backfield could change how opposing defenses decide to play the Canes

Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | July 02, 2016 at 11:26 AM

Well said BWC1, I couldn't have said it better myself. I saw him play in highschool at CC too and he was lights out, a true game breaker. The kid has that elite spead and size. If he gets the coaching and learns how to hold onto the ball, the kid will play on Sunday's.

CaneRock

and if we can find a place for him and his talents on the field, will be a stud at UM.

Posted by: NicKane | July 02, 2016 at 08:40 AM

Agree with finding a place for Him on the field, I still think He's a WR. BUT, this staff seems to think He's a RB also, so I'll take their word for it.

BigWindyCane1

I saw Choc play several times in high school. Choc played QB at Carol City and he scored TDs on every defense he faced. Choc was usually the best player on the field but I heard he didn't put in the effort in the classroom and in the weight room, but that he had more potential than anyone. South Florida produces elite RBs, and Choc was one of the best football players to come out of Miami that year, and he compared favorably to both Yearby and Cook. Yearby was always better in tight spaces and he is shifty, but Choc could always break long runs like Cook.

So many Greentree studs and legends, so little production. Fact!

Gray didn't get the ball because he can't hold onto the ball. He needs work. Staff doesn't matter if u fumble

I've been saying it for years and a lot of people were just blind in thinking Swayze was doing a top notch job. That guy was kiss poor at best and had nothing to do with the 2001 team that for some reason a lot of people think he did. Guy was a terrible S&C coach and was one of the first coaches I was praying Richt would fire. No more see our guys get pushed around and woren out in the 4th quarter. Oh and Choc is a stud! Was a stud at CC and if we can find a place for him and his talents on the field, will be a stud at UM. Fact!

Hassan is an important building block. And he's a big trade asset if they choose to go that direction. If Bosh does not return, the Heat gain $23M in cap space next summer.

Go Canes!

On my fourth cocktail in key largo.

That's all Ive got to say about that.

I agree Lurker, it's put up or shut up time for Gray.

Lur-ker

Are you going to call this staff inept also when they don't give him the ball either?

Our Coley-led offensive strategy was a major sh*t show last year, but it wasn't because we weren't getting Gray the ball.

Another Greentree All-American legend with no actual production. There's a spot in the Greentree hall of fame reserved for him.

thirstybuzzardcane

How stupid to give Whiteside that much money....Looks like the Heat will be worse than last year, unless they get Durant, but he'll probably be staying in OKC.

thirstybuzzardcane

I wish the inept coaching staff would of given Choc the ball more! Instead, we run shotgun on the goal line.

thirstybuzzardcane

^^^^I would put Choc at LB!!

Hassan back with the Heat - according to his Snapchat

Go Canes!

Some of the numbers being given out early in free agency are absolutely staggering.

Heat will be very lucky use all their available cap space and end up being slightly worse than they were last year.

With a healthy CB1, I say bump Whiteside, & sign Durant and Horford. Get J-Lin in a sign & trade with Charlotte, restructure Wade for 2 yrs., which will be how long this experiment will last anyway. Guaranteed we go to at least one Final. If CB1 can't go, let Him walk, and we free up $23-$25M. Sign LeStatewitness...cause mayhem...not 4, not 5, not 6...riots ensue.

Trade Dragic, Winslow, and McRoberts for CP3 and Austin Rivers, and somehow end up with Westbrook.

Check this 2018 line-up:

Wade, Westbrook, Durant, Lebron, Bosh. Off the bench Horford, and some dudes with bounce, and there you go.

Phuck a salary cap...$600M roster...Go Heat.

Business.

The End.

Impressed with CMR identifying DB as an area of immediate need and going out to get some grad transfers. CMR is dedicated to winning and winning right now. I am Very impressed CMR's with moves. Says a lot of good things about how players view this CMR, DIAZ, Rumph and Banda because quality grad transfers are seeking the Canes as a preferred destination. Canes are bringing players who can contribute immediately and play the fast attacking style D that Manny DIAZ wants to play. CMR is clearly not content with inexperienced DBs Paul Williams left, and they are not willing to suffer through the numerous mistakes of young DBs who will have to adjust from high school and learn how to play major college football
