The Maxwell Football Club selected University of Miami football juniors Brad Kaaya and Joe Yearby to the preseason watch list for the 80th annual Maxwell Award on Tuesday.
The Maxwell Award, named in honor of Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell, has been given to America's College Player of the Year since 1937. Maxwell's contributions to the game of football were extensive, including his time as a player, a sportswriter and an official.
Miami is one of just 21 schools at the Football Bowl Subdivision level with two players on the Maxwell Award Watch List.
Kaaya earned the preseason recognition thanks to a strong sophomore season in which he threw for over 3,000 yards for the second straight year, passed for 16 touchdowns and had just five interceptions. Kaaya was one of just three players nationally to throw for 3,000-or-more yards, 10-or-more touchdowns and five-or-fewer interceptions.
Following the 2015 season, Kaaya earned All-ACC Third Team honors by the coaches and Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association. The Los Angeles native enters his junior season with 6,436 career-passing yards and stands fifth on the all-time list at Miami. He needs just 3,130 yards to become the Hurricanes’ all-time passing leader.
Yearby’s preseason recognition came following a breakout 2015 campaign where he rushed for over 1,000 yards (1,002) and had eight total touchdowns (six rushing, two receiving). Yearby averaged 4.9 yards per carry and had 77.1 yards per game. He also ranked fourth on the team with 23 receptions.
Yearby finished the year as one of just four Hurricanes that started in every game during the 2015 campaign. Following the year, the Miami native was named All-ACC Third Team by the coaches and honorable mention by ACSMA.
Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced Oct. 31, 2016, while the three finalists for the award will be unveiled November 21, 2016. The winners of the 2016 Maxwell and Bednarik Awards will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on December 8, 2016. The formal presentations of these awards will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Tropicana Hotel & Casino Atlantic City on March 10, 2017.

They all associated Miami with getting an nfl paycheck. I'd rather that be how recruits think of UM than a glistening stadium.

1) What do we have against Hank?
2) I drove past the stadium last week and can report that at least one, and as many as 3 cranes seem to have moved. The stadium will be ready for the opener.

The Heat will be one of the worst teams in the NBA next year. Looks like Wade will be signing a 2 year deal with the Bulls! I wouldn't be surprised to see Riley step down soon.

I personally don't have anything against that bookie, but he has absolutely zero to do with the canes or Dolphins, is not a reporter has no sources, and was just speculating.
You could just as easily speculate the same exact thing, because they're all within the range of possibilities. Yes it's possible the stadium might NOT be ready for her first game, it's also possible it WILL be ready for our first game. The schedule is tight. But nobody in the know has made any type of comment regarding which way this will go.
Personally, I take them for their word that's it's a tight schedule, which means to me that if everything goes along precisely with the project timeline, it will be ready.
The other possibility is it won't be cosmetically ready, but ready from a safety and seating standpoint, in which case the games will be played minus whatever amenities aren't ready.
The bottom line is this: as long as you can safely seat 65,000 people, with no blocking of egress, they're going to have every single game at the stadium. Might look ugly and unfinished p, but they'll have the games there

Not at all. The Heat at worst (unless Whiteside were mistaken enough to decide not to resign with Miami and take a low money, one year deal elsewhere) will have Whiteside (27), Winslow (20), Draggic, and Richardson. These are good foundational pieces, and all it takes to push them back over the top is to sign another whale next summer after the lockout is over. Miami is ultimately considered too quality of an organization and too good of a locale to expect that every top free agent from here on out will not sign. And if the Heat are not a playoff team, they will also be able to pair that free agent signing with what should be a good lottery pick.
I will make this prediction however...by January 2017 D Wade will be a member of the Cavs, and Love will be a Chicago Bull. This could end up being an extended sign and trade deal.
Posted by: TonyCane | July 07, 2016 at 12:44 AM
1mg...bottom line they should be associating Miami with an NFL check, rather than looking for the school with the best bag man.
Posted by: TonyCane | July 07, 2016 at 12:46 AM
Sad thing about Wade is that even if he can play two years from now, I see very little to no chance of his returning to Miami to finish his career. It make take a decade or more for the hurt feelings to subside.
Imagine if Wade decides to enter the NBA hall of fame a decade from now as a Chicago Bull (or Cav, as I think he ends up with Lebron again).
Posted by: TonyCane | July 07, 2016 at 01:18 AM
With Riley it's never personal, it's just business.
There was no way he was going to let this franchise get Kobe'd by Wades contract over the next two seasons and Wade was too prideful to take a penny less than the max.
Funny thing is he lost more than that when he opted out and got screwed over when LeBron bolted. Yet he vacationed with him last week, and will uproot his family and leave the fans who've loyally loved him for 13 years over what is probably a couple of million a year max after taxes.
All just to prove a point.
Going to be fun watching Riley rebuild this thing again. No way he steps down and leaves things like this.

Winslow is still a basketball infant.
Watch video of Wade shooting early in his career. Same with Leonard in San Antonio.
The sky is the limit for him if he works his butt off.
Agree with Ohio, he won't be a Top 10 player, but can be an All Star caliber player year in and out.

I believe the PD has talked to him and her sister. Unfortunately, I'm assuming the worst, considering how these things go. Missing for more than 24-48 hours is not good, and she's not the type to just up and leave everything (pets, boyfriend, great job, etc).

Don't think they'd still be making these kind of assurances this far along in the process unless they really felt it was possible.
Makes no sense to say it over and over then look like fools at the last minute.
Read somewhere they are slowly removing a lot of the cranes and the video boards are already in.
They can't be that far away.

Like I said before, unless there as safety reason, the games will be played there.
I agree about the media kicking the ant pile for sh*ts and giggles.
Not having an extra lounge, an unpainted wall, or even the roof panels up, will stop a game being played unless it's a safety issue.

David Lake, 247Sports)
Steele has Miami finishing the 2016 season as the No. 19 overall team in the country.
Here is what Steele had to say about the Hurricanes:
“Mark Richt steps into great situation as he takes over a team that underachieved. He has 15 returning starters and all eight positions rank in my top units. They play in the winnable ACC Coastal. They do not face a team on the road in the ACC that had a winning ACC record last year. They do face Notre Dame on the road and host Florida State, but avoid Clemson. They are my pick to get to the ACC Title game.”
Steele regards Miami as a well balanced team going into the 2016 season. He ranks every position group fifth or better in the ACC. Steele has UM with the second best quarterback group, third best at running back, fifth at wide receiver, and third at offensive line in the ACC.
On defense, Steele has Miami’s defensive line ranked third in the conference, linebackers at fifth, and defensive backs at fifth. He has the UM special teams ranked second in the conference.
For Miami’s 2016 forecast, Steele had the following to say about the Hurricanes:
“Last year Miami was number nine in the country in fewest amount of seniors, which is usually a good sign for the next year…Folks pointed to coaching as a main reason for Miami’s struggles last year and while Mark Richt does not have any National Titles, he does have a lot of double digit win seasons in the rugged SEC. Miami has the coaching, veteran quarterback, improved defense, and my number two rated special teams unit in the ACC. Miami has not had a double digit win season since 2003, but five of my nine sets of power rating s call for one this year including my main one. The Hurricanes are my favorite to win the Coastal.”
Miami is trending in a positive way in the minds of college football experts.

A quick comment in regard to the stadium completion:
There is a very real chance the stadium will be complete on the due date of September 1. Having been in the commercial construction business for 35 years, I can tell you a lot of pressure is being put on the subcontractors and suppliers working on the stadium. It generally goes something like this. The general contractor will call a jobsite meeting and all the decision makers from each subcontractor will be there. Gentlemen, we must get done by this date or liquidated damages will be assessed to each of you based on the percentage of work left to be completed. These damages will be x amount per day and deducted from your contract. As you know, you can dispute the damages but attorney fees are nonrecoverable and you will also get no future work contracts from our company. In addition, no payments will be made to your company until the final inspection is complete and accepted. Of course, all the subs know that the GC is contracted to receive a bonus in addition to his base contract amount if the job comes in on time. And it will just so happen that should the project come in late, the damages assessed to the subs on the job will equal the amount of bonus the general contractor would have received. The GC doesn't care if you complete your work in the amount of days listed in the construction schedule, nor does he care that the subs who began the project took too long to do their work and thus put the job behind schedule. All he cares about is the guys who are now on the job will be expected to make up that time at their own cost. Oh, but the carrot and stick that will be used is always the same. We will make it up to you guys on the next job by giving you last look to get a contract, ie. we will let you match the low bid and get the job. Oh goody goody. And the little guys get screwed again.

As someone said earlier, these young men, majority black need to realize that the world is real. There are real evil people out there, dressed in all type of clothing. We need to teach our young men to always be aware of your surroundings and circumstances. Sad to say, but sometimes its just best to stay around loved ones.

Many studies have shown that testosterone levels in males rise and fall according to whether the individual wins or loses in competitive sports, like tennis and wrestling -- even chess.
Sports fans experience the same spike watching sports, which helps explain the violence and destructive rioting that can take place after big games (win or lose).

Rock, there obviously something sketchy that happened with the police, but I'll wait to get more info, because right now it's all confusing as hell.
What's clear to me is that there was very little in terms of a case from the get go, and all the information and facts about the case just sounded super sketchy.
It's the district attorney's job to analyze all the information, and then make a wise choice about whether proceeding or not. So ALL my wrath and anger goes towards the district attorneys office for the time being. They should have never proceeded with this case with the information we now know. This should've been drop within the first two or three weeks.
I'm extremely angry that the District Attorney's Office kept delaying, but yet kept proceeding with this case. They sound like a bunch of mopes, and they look incompetent. They had nothing but kept Stretching stretching it out. I'm really angry about that.
The district attorney for this case, delayed the hearing twice, and then showed up late today when she was supposed to be in front of the judge. Very disrespectful. Sounds like an incompetent District Attorney's Office trying to make a case out of nothing.
When they look into the actions of the police and the "victim" they also need to look into the district attorney. What the hell were they thinking?

Odds they miss any meaningful time?
Feldman: Jim mcelwain says Treon Harris & Antonio Callaway are back in classes but nothing's been resolved about playing & it's out of his hands. #UF

They were thinking this is Miami, everything is screwed up, maybe nobody will notice?

I have no idea, Soup.
I can only guess what they were thinking.
Maybe it was a punk move by an inexperienced DA trying to get some big case pub off the back of a big time college player?
Maybe it was incompetent supervision?
You would hate to think that the more accomplished and experienced bosses in that DA office would look at this case and realize there ain't sh*t to go on and drop it. Which they finally did after almost 4 months of bad publicity for the kid.
I'm pretty angry as to how this case was handled by the DA's office. Unacceptable.

The sad part about Walton's case is if he was a nobody, he would've been f*cked by the dirty d*ck of the law. That's why my people scream F*CK THE POLICE!
I HOPE HE HITS THE S.A.O. AND THE MDPD POCKETS HARDER THEN SEAN TAYLOR HIT THAT PUNTER PRO BOWL

Lol @ SOUP
I won't get too deep but incompetence doesn't cut it as an excuse for the SAO or the police. They followed standard procedure. That's motto everytime a black man is murdered, beaten, kidnapped etc. by the police. "It was standard procedure". Wrong doing is never admitted by the police no matter how savage the act. Because it's standard procedure to f*ck us up. A procedure that has been the standard for centuries...
Justice will be given or taken
