University of Miami head football coach Mark Richt said the backup quarterback race is down to a pair of redshirt sophomores.
“As far as the quarterback position is concerned, the No. 1 guy, of course, is Brad [Kaaya],” Richt said. “Right now what I'm going to do is work [Vincent] Testaverde and Malik [Rosier] with the twos, and give them all the reps with the twos and kind of let them battle it out. The rest of the guys, I want them to keep competing.”
Despite recognizing Testaverde and Rosier as a step ahead for the backup job, Richt said the race is far from over – even for redshirt freshman Evan Shirreffs and freshman Jack Allison.
“They're in still a lot of drill work...if somebody struggles in that two unit match, it might be someone [else] bumps in there,” Richt said. “It's not 100-percent solid that one of those two will be the No. 2, but they're in the driver's seat right now. They'll get all the reps with the number twos."
Kaaya said there is plenty to like about both Rosier and Testaverde.
“[Vincent] has gotten a lot better, getting his mechanics down pat. He’s smooth,” Kaaya said. “He delivers the ball and throws a tight spiral. He’s just gotten more of the offense down pat and operate more efficiently.”
Rosier made one start in 2015, throwing for 272 yards in a 30-27 win at Duke in Durham, N.C. He also saw action in the team's matchup with Clemson. Testaverde, who redshirted in 2015 to retain eligibility, transferred to Miami after spending the 2014 season at Texas Tech.
“Just seeing him do the right thing consistently,” Kaaya said of the coaching staff’s focus with Rosier. “There may be a deep route downfield that he might be able to force and might be a close ball that he might be able to catch, or might not. He just wants him to focus on taking the more high-percentage throws.”
Kaaya said between spring ball, summer workouts and fall practice, all of the quarterbacks should feel comfortable in Richt’s offensive scheme.
“They look pretty close to [mastering the offense] right now,” Kaaya said. “There shouldn’t be any excuses for why they can’t get in there and be able to operate. We’ve all been in this offense the same amount of time. It should be pretty close to natural for them at this point.”

Like the moves, never saw either guy as Tackles, especially Jones...Pete.
"**Redshirt freshman Bar Milo’s transition from tackle to guard has not been easy, but it seems like he is finally getting a hold of things. Milo said he moved to guard “about four days ago”.
“Earlier in training camp, I was having a rough time – I was having mental issues. I went to coach (Searels) and told him and I can’t thank him enough for how patient he’s been with me,” Milo said.
“I haven’t been playing how I wanted to this whole training camp, but I’m starting to get back into that fun, festive mood that I usually get in when I’m on the field.”
“I think going to guard with my frame and having people on both sides of me with experience helps a lot. I feel comfortable so far,” he added.
A source told CanesInSight that Jahair Jones has also been working exclusively as a guard."

What the hell is wrong w these guy?....
Barry:
Another UM player investigated
2 pm Saturday: UM's investigation into players who might have used cars from a South Beach luxury car rental agency, in exchange for future promises, has expanded and now includes UM receiver Stacy Coley, according to a source with direct knowledge. As we have previously reported, Al Quadin Muhammad and Jermaine Grace also are being investigated by UM for using cars from South Beach Exotic Rentals. UM, not the NCAA, is handling the investigation. UM has declined to say if any of the players will be suspended. Some UM players are expecting short suspensions for the players, but it remains unclear if that will happen. UM is still in the process of determining what, if any, discipline will be doled out.

Will AQM be the next Olivier Vernon? Obvious monster talent who we'll barely get to see here?

I have said all along sit them the first 3 Games and get them ready for the ACC Games+ the non conference Game against ND to come starting with GT on October 1st. We will win those first three games without them. They can start practice again on September 20th with the 1st team and be ready to rock and roll come October 1st. Wax On Wax Off!

We aren't nearly deep enough and haven't played a single down in this new D to have any important players out for three games.
Hoping it's one game and this thing goes away.

Booker T kicks the mighty American Heritage,s azz-is Ice pissed at the U?
Not one BTW kid is committed - per the article they are going elsewhere
http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/high-school/article96834217.html
Posted by: TJL | August 20, 2016 at 09:16 AM
It's something worth watching. Even when Ice was RB coach at the U, he failed to get several BTW kids (and other S. FLA kids) to commit to the U. BTW took a bus load of players from their team to FSU and UF camps over the summer.
Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | August 20, 2016 at 07:08 PM
Who cares about those kids, other than Telfort.
How about reading a couple of paragraphs and seeing that other than Telfort, none were targets.
Yes, it's possible Lice might hold a grudge, but it's not like he EVER helped UM in recruiting. EVER. Even when he was employed by us.
Let's get real.
Posted by: Lur-ker | August 20, 2016 at 07:16 PM
Eduardo Clements,Brandon Harris, Davon Johnson, Chad Thomas, Demetrius Jackson, Mark Walton...that's not helping UM in recruiting?
Posted by: CaneRock | August 20, 2016 at 07:38 PM
I know we're still on probabation, but does this hurt us if the players do wrong or do coaches have to be involved?
Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | August 20, 2016 at 08:06 PM
UM is investigating my guess is a 1-3 Game suspension for the three players. We should be at full strength by GT.

Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | August 20, 2016 at 08:06 PM
I would say it's the latter, I haven't seen any indications where any coaches were involved or aware.
Posted by: CaneRock | August 20, 2016 at 08:20 PM
^^^^^^^^^ To clarify, if this was just the players acting autonomously, I don't think we'll get sanctioned as a team/program. But I haven't seen any indications that coaches were involved or aware.
Posted by: CaneRock | August 20, 2016 at 08:26 PM
Brandon Harris is his son, as we all know. That's ancient history. So is Clements.
The other players like Chad, he didn't get those players in,
Let me throw a couple of names at you:
Matthew Thomas and Denver Kirkland
He was hired not because of his coaching, but because of the issues in the 305 with the last staff and he did little to nothing to help with that.
Posted by: Lur-ker | August 20, 2016 at 09:34 PM
Sully, i think we win more than 5 games even if we surprisingly lost to App St..lol.... I do believe it will be:
AQM :2-3 games suspension
Grace: 1 game
Coley:1 game
Posted by: DeeCane | August 20, 2016 at 10:24 PM
LOL
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | August 20, 2016 at 10:46 PM
Chad Thomas, Mark Walton, & Demetrious Jackson...that's little to nothing?...LOL.
Sheez, with the exceptions of Darling & Yearby, if ex-players like Roland Smith &
Mike Rumph couldn't "steer" players to UM, fuq make you think Ice could turn water to wine?...LOL.
Face it buddy, the last staff was @$$, their shortcomings in the 305 were self inflicted, had absolutely nothing to do with Ice.
Posted by: CaneRock | August 20, 2016 at 10:48 PM
Yea they were ass. Ice was never a college-quality hire. One of their many hiring mistakes.
As far as those three, ice wasn't their recruiter.
As far as Rumph, in terms of recruiting, I hope he's a better coach than he's so far been a recruiter. I'll just leave it at that for now.

Posted by: Mr. Moneymaker | August 21, 2016 at 10:37 AM
We have to earn that respect back. Once we start out 3-0 or 4-0, we'll pop back up quickly. It works that way with all established programs.
An extreme example:
Notre Dame in the past. They would have a losing season and be unranked. Then the following season they start out 3-0 and suddenly they are back in the Top 10.
Posted by: TonyCane | August 21, 2016 at 12:17 PM
After we go 3-0, we'll be around 22-24. After we beat GT, at 4-0, we'll be somewhere between 16-20
Posted by: Lur-ker | August 21, 2016 at 12:57 PM
Tony...that's because the media and most people LOVE Notre Dame. They will rank them at even the slightest opportunity. The media and most people HATE Miami. They will resist ranking us as long as they can and put us as low as they can until they are left no choice but to rank us high again. We will have to EARN IT! IJS
Posted by: 58 Straight | August 21, 2016 at 02:31 PM
If GT beats Clemson, and then we beat GT... then I could see us as high as 16.
Posted by: The Dude | August 21, 2016 at 02:31 PM

Posted by: The Dude | August 21, 2016 at 01:19 AM
The back and forth was amazing! I thought Diaz was done in the 1st round, then McGregor looked finished in the 3rd. I agree that they got this fight right. McGregor is now saying that he wants Diaz to come down in weight, but there's already a strong group waiting for that belt so we'll see what Dana does. He can't keep letting these two fighters tie up every weight class. McGregor is going to have to drop one of his belts and it will most likely be the belt he won last night.
Posted by: Sarasota 'cane | August 21, 2016 at 03:18 PM
Six Notre Dame football players, including Freshman receiver Kevin Stepherson were arrested Friday night in Fulton County (Indiana) after police stopped them for speeding. They each were charged with possession of marijuana
Apparently, Stepherson plays spliff end.
Posted by: Old Skool | August 21, 2016 at 05:27 PM
Posted by: Sarasota 'cane | August 21, 2016 at 03:18 PM
Here's the thing... McGregor cant knock out Diaz at 170, if that fight went 6 rounds Diaz probably finishes him. McGregor is obviouly more polished, but Diaz can hang punch for punch. If I'm McGregor and Ive fought him 2 times at his weight, yeah make him come down to mine.
Posted by: The Dude | August 21, 2016 at 05:50 PM
Chad Thomas, Mark Walton, & Demetrious Jackson.
Walton had a nice year over 1,000, 10 TDs....he helped the team for sure.
Thomas 25 tackles 1 sack in 2 years...he would ride my bench.Jackson 11 takles 0.5 sack last year. Both guys....nowhere to be found they have really shown nothing on the field as players. Nice kids, no production yet. Especially Thomas.....very disappointing as a player. Lets hope they step it up quite a bit....need to produce. I dont care where they played HS.....time to step up this aint HS.
I am so damn glad the Olympics are over....host city has been in red since 1984 when Uberroth ran them....showed a profit of $250 mil..... nothing to do with countries feeling good about each other....just a bunch of bitter whining.
US hoops acts like winning is a big thing....the rest of the teams suck they should win by 50...men and women.....I like seeing bolt run...rest of it....not at all!
