#11 Texas goes down to Cal

Consistency is the key

There are going to be some disappointed people here in Texas. They gave up 50 or more points in two of their first three games.

Go,GoCanes!
Can't see Kaaya staying if projects where he's projecting on some of the sites we've seen.

Posted by: Go,GoCanes! | September 18, 2016 at 10:19 AM

True but to be honest. I think those projections are quiet A bit immature. I don't think he's ready for the league by a long shot yet. I think he has a lot of work to do on playing under center, footwork in the pocket, consistency with the accuracy of his throws and so on. I think he's back next year.

Lur-ker

I doubt we're ranked higher than 18-20

Go,GoCanes!

One thing we see every year is an NFL team reaching into the Top 5 of the draft for a QB. A lot of the time based on projected potential.

Don't see it as such a reach for him to go very high in the first.

Will worry about that when the time comes. Until then will enjoy having him here.

Go,GoCanes!

And he dropped one:

Miami true freshman WR Ahmmon Richards ran only 15 routes yesterday, picked up 142 yards on four catches.

An absurd 9.47 yards/route

BigWindyCane1

I hope you are right Nick, but I am afraid that any scout who sees him throw live will want to draft him HIGH on the first day. You just don't see many players like him in college football. CMR has him in a true pro style offense for the first time in his career. Scouts like that, and CMR knows how to coach QBs. And if this Canes team keeps playing well like this, Kaaya will definitely go high in the draft.

Go,GoCanes!

Porter has us at 16.

UMike

I think we will be ranked 20-22 in that area. Still and improvement. I think a few games will go out way over the bye week and we could sneak into the top 20 by the GT game.

Lur-ker

We won't be sneaking into the top 20 if we beat GT. We'll be solidly in the top 20 no lower than 16-18

VfB_Cane

Our strength of schedule sure took a hit yesterday.
After week 2, GT remains the only undefeated team on our schedule. And they might fall to Clemson on Thursday.

I looked as this season as a rebuilding effort to get some bad habits out of the system while winning maybe 10 games. But if the team stays healthy, very good things might happen this year.

Dude on a Pale Horse

USC's Max Brown throws a better ball than Kaaya. 6'4"+ and a live arm is a dime a dozen. Brad needs to come back and work on some things.

Nice to see you back. We just need to beat the teams we should get to 10 games. My concern is how do we get to 12 4* recruits?

Lur-ker

USC blows

Go,GoCanes!

Checking in at 15 in the FWAA poll (whatever that is).

I wonder if TN losses to Florida in a close one if they will stay ahead of us.

Dude on a Pale Horse

Miami 41, GT 24.

Tennessee sucks. We may not be back, but we're better than that over-hyped SEC trashbag. So over-hyped in the preseason, proven garbage now.

We should be ranked ahead of them right now.

Still hope they beat the gators out.

ARIZ:

Despite bye, this is a huge week for Canes football
**The Miami Hurricanes will not play a game in week four, but this is a monumental week for the football program. The Canes have had a successful first three weeks on the field – taking care of business against an FCS school and two non-P5 programs. Miami will make two announcements this week that are both expected to make waves in the national headlines and will keep Miami front and center in the eyes of recruits, even on their bye week.

Tomorrow, the school will unveil the “new” Adidas uniform design, which is heavily influenced by the look worn by the Canes of the 80s and 90s. The unis were leaked on Twitter last night and I can confirm that this is what they will look like. Keep in mind that the sleeves will be tighter for the version worn by players.

**The bigger news for Miami’s football program will be Friday afternoon announcement of an indoor practice facility, which has been in the final stages of planning for a couple of months now. This announcement will is being labeled as “by invitation only” and is being held at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach. It is scheduled to begin at 5:00PM and school president Julio Frenk will be in attendance along with athletic director Blake James.

Canes coaches have been showing the facility layout plans to recruits since the spring. Sources have told CanesInSight.com that Miami is aiming to have construction completed by the start of the 2018 season. It works out nicely that the 2018 recruiting class of prospects is one of the most talent-laden groups in recent memory.
Real estate developer Jeffrey Soffer and his family will be the lead donor for the project. Donor details here:

South Florida billionaire Jeffrey Soffer and family expected to help finance UM's indoor football practice facility | Miami Herald

**A few team things…

Brad Kaaya’s knee is fine. There is no structural damage and if there was a game this week, he would play with little to no hindrance. Team orthopedic surgeon Dr. Lee Kaplan and head athletic trainer Vinny Scavo were taking a close look at Kaaya on the sidelines yesterday as he took a hit while chasing the return on the interception that he threw.

Adrian Colbert, who is coming off a meniscus tear and minor knee procedure, would be ready to play this week if there was a game. He will be important in the next game against Georgia Tech where the cornerbacks will need to get active in the run game. His history as a safety lends to him being effective against the run.

Notable stats
**Miami is converting on 51.5% of their 3rd downs this season, which ranks 17th nationally. The Canes finished 95th in the country in the same category last season (35.47%)

**Miami’s defense has allowed only 217 yards per game, which ranks 3rd nationally.

**The pass defense has allowed 152.3 yards per game, which ranks 14th nationally.

**The run defense has allowed 65 YPG, which ranks 7th nationally.

**The defense has allowed 7.7 points per game, which ranks 2nd nationally.

**The Canes are tied for 5th in sacks with 13. They had 26 sacks all of last season.

**Mark Walton has the 7th-most rushing yards in the country with 401.

This stat here from Pro Football Focus gives you another look at Ahmmon Richards’ 4-catch, 142-yard freshman receiving record at Miami.

Go,GoCanes!

Vols are horrible.

Tennessee, Auburn, Kentucky, LSU and maybe Miss St. will be looking for new coaches this offseason.

nemo2002

Three cupcakes to start the season and then a bye week.
I hope we're not living in fantasyland.

Mountain Cane

SEC has Alabama and a bunch of pretenders. 7 teams ranked 15-24 going into the weekend were all "SEC courtesy" rankings.

Tenn ranking probably the biggest joke with a home underserved OT win over App St. As screwy as the polls are, the squeaker home win over The Ohio (not state) University will probably have them move up.

On the other hand, I'd just as soon have us move up slowly. Kids are kids and they have 2 weeks before GT to hear how good they are. Need to be very careful. GT will be ready. No big heads allowed.

Enjoy while we can.... last year we would have had 2 close games and a loss

TonyCane

Strength of schedule will be fine if we go 12-0 and face Clemson or Louisville in the ACC title game.

The Canes are #19 in the Coaches poll

Go,GoCanes!

The Miami Hurricanes are #15 in this week's AP Poll.

I'll take 15

Lur-ker

Totally shocked they have us at #15, but I'll take it.

BigWindyCane1

Polls are obviously important, but the teams must play and earn respect on the field. The Canes have a chance to control their destiny, but they need to take care of business one play, one game and one month at a time. The Canes just need to go out and earn the pollsters respect. The Canes were undefeated in September. If the Canes go undefeated in October, they will undeniably be in the conversation for ACC championship and CBF in November. The Canes fandom could not ask for more.

10. TAMU

Undefeated October or not, we are finally heading in the right direction.

1mg of Epi

#15. I suppose that means we are at the first benchmark we have been pining for... Relevance.

Lur-ker

Out of that top 10, TAMU ain't sh*t and Washington is a typically soft PAC12 team. In Pacland there's Stanford, and then everybody else.

And aside from the news for new uniforms and an IPF, this great start should help us win some recruiting battles.

Those tradional unis are all I've ever wanted since we went to the exotic looking Nike ones around 2001. We're tradition rich power and tradition rich powers don't were wacky uniforms like programs like Oregon and Maryland who have NO tradional or championships what's so ever. So happy about this! Look like a champion , play like a champion! 🙌

VfB_Cane

Artie Burns with a great play in the corner of the endzone to save a TD.

The more you look at it, we had talent on the teams of the past 10 years, just no coaches to use it properly. Looking at how quickly the freshmen got ready to play, I think that problem may be behind us.

If FSU makes a habit of getting blown out, that may help us a lot in recruiting as well. The Gators are not having the finest time in program history either, which puts us in a great position as long as the wins keep coming.

BigWindyCane1

In 2015, FSU chose to recruit DeAndre Francois, the #1 dual threat QB and #39 prospect overall by Rivals, originally from Orlando (I recall he played youth football for the Orlando Outlaws), but eventually played at IMG Academy. Louisville recruits Lamar Jackson , the #17 dual threat QB, with no national ratings by Rivals out of Boynton Beach.

I guess Rivals and FSU got that one wrong.

I come clean. I was probably the lone Cane loyalist who said the Canes would finish 9-3 and finally win a bowl game. However, after further deliberation. huh The Canes have a very decent shot to go undefeated during the regular season or finish 11-1 in a worst case scenario. OUCH Why U wonder? It's all about the defense. In other words, Cane bubba knew the offense could be potent, yet the WILDCARD was the defensive unit. And from all indicators. The Cane defense will continue to improve, and won't be a troublsome " liability " during the month of All Hollows Eve. No not Sleepy Hollow. huh

classics are fine. but I love the new funky different unis in CF. I want Adidas to come up with cool designs. anything with black would be cool.
