Greg Olsen (Carolina Panthers) - five catches, 122 yards, 78-yard touchdown
Trailing 10-7 to San Francisco in the second quarter Sunday, the Carolina Panthers needed a spark in a home matchup with the 49ers. Enter Greg Olsen. Quarterback Cam Newton found the Pro Bowl tight end wide open in the middle of the field, and connected on a career-long 78-yard, go-ahead touchdown to take a 14-7 lead. Olsen, who made five catches for 122 yards, led all tight ends in yardage for Week 2, guiding Carolina to a 46-27 win.
Travis Benjamin (San Diego Chargers) - six catches, 115 yards, two TDs
In need of an explosive option for its offense this past offseason, the San Diego Chargers signed wide receiver Travis Benjamin to a four-year, $24 million contract. Benjamin came through in a big way in Sunday’s 38-14 blowout of Jacksonville, totaling a game-high 115 receiving yards on six catches with two touchdowns. Benjamin pushed San Diego’s early lead to 14-0 with a six-yard TD in the second quarter, and hauled in a 45-yard TD from quarterback Phillip Rivers in the third to help put the game away.
Clive Walford (Oakland Raiders) – six catches, 50 yards, one touchdown
Many experts predicted Oakland Raiders second-year tight end Clive Walford to have a breakout year in 2016. Walford displayed that potential in Sunday’s disappointing 35-28 loss to Atlanta. Walford caught six passes – double his Week 1 total of three – including a 31-yard touchdown from quarterback Derek Carr to open the second-half scoring. Walford, who caught 28 passes for 329 yards in his rookie season, is on pace for a big season with the Raiders.
Andre Johnson (Tennessee Titans) – game-winning 9-yard touchdown
With the game clock ticking down to under 90 seconds in the fourth quarter, the Tennessee Titans turned to their most player for a big play. As he has done on countless occasions through his 14 seasons in the NFL, Andre Johnson came through. Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota lofted a pass into double-coverage and Johnson came down with the ball, scoring a nine-yard touchdown to give Tennessee a 16-15 win over Detroit. The touchdown reception was the 69th of Johnson’s illustrious career.
Ladarius Gunter (Green Bay Packers) – six tackles, one forced fumble
Making his first career start in the NFL on Sunday Night Football, Green Bay Packers’ second-year defensive back Ladarius Gunter enjoyed an impressive performance in a 17-14 loss to host Minnesota. Gunter totaled a team-high and career-best six tackles (all solo) and also forced a fumble in the second quarter. Gunter, who had just two tackles in his rookie season of 2015, figures to be an impact player in the Green Bay secondary in 2016.

six-pack of UM and Marlins notes:
• Only two UM players in history (minimum 25 touchdowns) have more touchdowns than games played: Edgerrin James (35 in 28) and Willis McGahee (31 in 21). But Mark Walton (17 TDs in 16 games) is on pace for that.
In fact, the sophomore Walton also is on pace to top James and Stephen McGuire’s UM record of 35 touchdowns.
Most impressive about Walton: How he has boosted his yards per carry average from 3.5 to 8.4, which is 14th nationally.
He ranks seventh nationally in yards rushing with 401. He had 461 yards rushing all of last season.
• UM says only four freshmen haven’t played (and are thus on track to redshirt): quarterback Jack Allison, receiver Sam Bruce (suspended, then injured), tight end Jovani Haskins and defensive lineman Tyreic Martin.
• On Friday at the Fontainbleau on Miami Beach, UM will officially announce what we reported Sunday --- that the Soffer family will be the lead donors for an indoor practice facility. The Soffer family owns the hotel.

Curiously, an App State official told WSOC reporter Dave Faherty that “one of the problems may have been the fact that Miami players ran out onto the field prior to the game, something he had never seen before.”
Teams enthusiastically jogging onto the field is a common sight before games.

As the above video shows, App State players had a clear path to run. The color guard, unusually, was positioned along Miami’s sideline in direct path of the visitors. Randleman told The Post on Monday that although the location of her squad was “poor placement,” visiting players who have run through their formation before have apologized.
Martin told WSOC the group received “a written apology from the athletic director in Miami … I think that’s all we really needed.”
James didn’t agree with that characterization.
“I didn’t apologize in the letter, so I wouldn’t classify it as an apology letter,” James said. “If that’s what she wants to go with to allow her to move forward, I’m not going to sit here and argue semantics in the media.”

Link to local news in Boone...so the girl said she was "shoved to the ground" but then says "I felt a player shove into me, and them they swarmed me and I felt pain"
WTF does that even mean? Clearly no players stopped to swarm anyone, even the video from the news report which is closer than Porters video doesnt show anything
Posted by: UMike | September 21, 2016 at 06:43 AM
Now their both saying "I dont wanna hurt their futures" and "an apology was all that was needed"... guess they had to back down once they got caught.

Effects of meth use:
Changes in brain structure and function.
Deficits in thinking and motor skills.
Psychosis, including: paranoia & hallucinations.
Quote from the High County Press in Boone, NC:
Boone Police Narcotics Officers and Watauga County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Deputies agree that, “Methamphetamine (meth) is a major concern for North Carolina and Watauga County citizens, and local law enforcement"
I don't know what App State calls their color guard, but the "Shake and Bakers" may be apt.

For the second time in his young life, Angel Rodriguez has packed his bags and ventured off to begin a new life in a foreign land, where finding pancake mix is much harder than he expected.
Rodriguez, the Puerto Rican who moved to Miami on his own at age 15 to pursue his hoop dreams, became a star point guard at the University of Miami and earned a spot on the San Antonio Spurs Summer League team. But he didn’t make the cut, so he signed a 10-month contract to play in the French first division, with a team called Cholet Basket in a town of 55,000 best known for its red linen handkerchiefs.
It was definitely culture shock, starting with his first trip to the grocery store.
“The products look completely different, I can’t read the labels, and I couldn’t find Alfredo sauce or pancake mix,” Rodriguez said by phone on Tuesday. “I looked all over for pancake mix, and they don’t have it. I asked the other American guys on the team and they told me about a grocery an hour away that has a small section with American products, so I drove there and I found pancake mix.”
He does love the bread there (“I can’t stop eating it,” he said) and is getting used to smaller portions and organic vegetables. He enrolled in a French class.
Rodriguez has also had to adjust to a French style of basketball, which means less dribbling, more quick passes and longer runs rather than sprints at practice. He is one of five U.S. players on the team, along with Isaiah Swann (Florida State), David Noel (North Carolina), Graham Brown (Michigan), and Benjamin Dewar (Lake Superior State).
All the other Americans are older and have played in France, so they have been helping Rodriguez get acclimated.
“I couldn’t be more thankful for those guys because I am the only rookie, so they’ve made me feel more comfortable,” Rodriguez said.
He says it can get lonely living alone in a town 4,400 miles from Miami. His wife, Jesenia, will be visiting in 10 days, and she’ll be back over Christmas for a vacation to Paris, London and Milan, but she is finishing her college degree so can’t move to France. Rodriguez passes the time watching Netflix, reading, streaming college football games and talking on the phone through What’s App and FaceTime, sometimes as late as 4 a.m. when there is no morning practice.

Freshman power forward Dewan Huell, the most highly-touted University of Miami basketball recruit in recent years, will not be suspended following his arrest last week on misdemeanor battery charges.
He has been practicing with the team this week. UM coach Jim Larrañaga met with Huell, evaluated information about the arrest and decided not to impose a suspension.
“I feel like it’s an internal matter,” said Larrañaga, reached by phone Tuesday in New Jersey, where he is recruiting. “Dewan is a great kid. I’ve gotten to know him better and better since he arrived on campus in June. He knows he made a mistake and we will handle it internally.”
According to the police report obtained by the Herald, Huell, 19, entered the FIU dorm room of ex-girlfriend Autum Williams unannounced around 4 p.m. on Sept. 13, and found her in the closet with male visitor Samuel J. Bailey. Police say Huell, who is 6-10 and 200 pounds, grabbed Bailey by the shirt and “forcefully dragged him out of the room,’’ leaving him with a few scratches in the neck and chest. No punches were thrown.

The invitations are out. The renderings are done. The presentation is ready to go.
The only thing left is the official public unveiling, which will take place at 5 p.m. Friday at the swanky StripSteak by Michael Mina restaurant inside the Fontainebleau Hotel on Miami Beach.
The new football indoor practice facility is about to actually be born.
It is all happening quickly thanks to the Soffer Family, owners of the Fontainebleau, Aventura Mall, Turnberry Resort and other real estate projects throughout South Florida and beyond which will announce it is making the lead gift for the facility which will have a $28-$30 million price tag and a target completion date of April 2018.
Miami has raised approximately $20 million of that total, including a $1 million donation from Coach Mark Richt, and will be hoping to finish the fund raising campaign by the end of the year, maybe even by the completion of the Friday night presentation. Athletic Director Blake James has set the goal of having the building 100% funded before a shovel hits the ground.
At Friday's festivities, James and his staff will lay out the vision of the facility and set the groundwork for additional donations to an audience expected to include several prospective donors.
The University has prepared an elaborate multimedia presentation for the event.
