On Saturday in Atlanta your Miami Hurricanes beat the Rambling Wreck from Georgia Tech convincingly by the score of 35-21.
The 14 point margin was double the point spread and more than enough cushion for UM fans who watched at home or attended the game to enjoy the contest. Miami never trailed and scored twice on defense to solidify the victory.
The surprising thing so far this season is how dominant the young, inexperienced UM defense has been while the UM offense, which is admittedly Coach Richt's specialty, has struggled to find any sense of identity or any form of consistency even with a talented, veteran quarterback in Brad Kaaya.
Georgia Tech was Miami's first ACC game of the year and really their only true test so far this season. With contests against FSU and then North Carolina coming up in consecutive weeks the games will gradually get tougher before they get any easier.
As a result of their road win in Hotlanta Miami surged to 4-0 on the season and vaulted into the top 10 in the college football polls released on Sunday.
That ascension into some pretty rare air in and around Coral Gables lately is making most Hurricane fans feel a little light headed at the moment. A big win over FSU next week will likely make some of us pass completely out!
Now, if only Mark and Brad can finally get their synchronicity going and generate some positive synergy for the UM offense then this Hurricane team has no limits. If not, Hurricane fans could be facing another mid-to-late season swoon that we have become accustomed to around these parts.
Let's hope it is the former and not the latter.
Dale!

Someone asked about the Miami attendance at the game, I think it was Lurker.... It was dam near close to a neutral field game as far as fans. Our group left the game with about 4 mins to go since we had a good walk and kids and half way to the car we hear a huge roar, GT fans thought something good happened. It was Pickneys INT, it was the Miami fans.

^^^ That's fantastic! Glad we're traveling well!

I thought our best drive was when we went up tempo and scored in just over a minute. We had another drive where Coley dropped the pass, that could of been another scoring drive bu the drop killed the tempo. I think we will see more of this against FSU.
I honestly dont know if we are holding back on plays or if CMR play calling/design is still shaking off rust.

The Canes control their own destiny in the ACC. A win on Saturday will go a long way toward reestablishing what we Canes fans have been waiting for years to experience - an ACC Championship.

I'm gonna go with the "holding something back" theory until proven otherwise. I really get the feeling this is the case but we will not KNOW until we know.
I am actually "nervous" about a game for the first time in along time. So much is riding on this game, not just for this season, but for the future of the team.

SOUP, I agree. Huge recruiting impact, a win could really change the recruiting landscape for us, especially with them already having 2 loses.

Take 1: Has FSU lived on smoke and mirrors since the 2013 season?
After losing to North Carolina on Saturday, Florida State finds itself ranked outside the top 20 for the first time since 2011. But that was a very different team with very different players. According to the Rivals.com rankings, there are a whopping five five-star and 19 four-star players currently on the Seminole defense. Despite all that talent on paper, the defense ranks No. 94 in total defense and No. 105 in scoring defense. Worse, FSU is just 5-5 versus FBS competition in its last 10 games.
Signs of this recent decline were evident a couple years ago, but some odd circumstances made it difficult to identify at the time. During the 2014-15 seasons, the Seminoles posted an impressive 23-4 record and continued their dominance over in-state rivals Florida and Miami. However, something wasn’t quite right back then, and in hindsight we probably should have seen the danger signs.
2014 Season: If you remember, this was the team that was supposed to be better than the 2013 squad that won the national championship. That group finished the year at 13-1, but it took near divine intervention to obtain that lofty record. FSU trailed 10 times during that season, but the ‘Noles were able to mount amazing comebacks in nine of those 10 games. Led by the top quarterback in college football, the ‘Noles erased three second-half double-digit deficits and turned them into improbable victories. In three games, it took near miracles (Louisville, Miami and Notre Dame) with fluky plays or bizarre circumstances for FSU to escape with a victory. If not for some incredibly lucky bounces, not to mention having Jameis Winston to bail the team out time and time again, this could have been a three- or four-loss season.
2015 Season: Florida State managed a respectable 10-3 record in what was supposed to a rebuilding season. However, most of those wins came against incredibly weak competition. The non-conference slate included Texas State, UT-Chattanooga and a USF team that was coming off a 4-8 season. The Seminoles also had a very favorable in-conference schedule with Wake Forest (1-7 ACC), Boston College (0-8 ACC), Syracuse (2-6 ACC) and N.C. State (2-5). For all intents and purposes, seven of the 10 wins were essentially guaranteed wins. For the other three, FSU caught Louisville early with Lamar Jackson making just his third career start, had to rally to defeat a Miami team that fired its coach, and the ‘Noles beat a down-and-out Florida team with no offense. Football stats guru Jeff Sagarin ranked FSU’s 2015 schedule the 51st toughest in 2015, and that was probably being generous. All in all, FSU was 1-2 against top-30 competition that season.Point is, if not for some incredible breaks and comebacks in 2014 and a very easy schedule in 2015, we might have seen FSU’s current struggles coming a mile away.

We are ranked #10. Do you guys think that's about right, or are there more or less than 10 teams that could beat us?
Posted by: 1mg of Epi | October 03, 2016 at 11:11 AM
^^^ More than 10 teams COULD beat us.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | October 03, 2016 at 11:17 AM
We're not a juggernaught is what Im saying Epi. We've handle business but still havent beaten anyone. Personally I dont care what our ranking is. I only care about a) winning 10 games b) winning the Coastal and c) winning a bowl game then d) getting about a dozen 4 and 5 star athletes.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | October 03, 2016 at 11:21 AM
Canes supposedly are in the lead now for 4 star LB/DE De'Andre Wilder.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | October 03, 2016 at 11:24 AM
We have benefited greatly from other teams scheduling, lots of teams ranked ahead of us playing other ranked teams etc to help us get to #10. I will take it, but not sold we are a legit top 10 team at the moment. We will know after the next 4 games.
Posted by: UMike | October 03, 2016 at 11:24 AM
We will HAVE to beat UNC for any chance at the coastal because they may not lose another ACC game.
Posted by: UMike | October 03, 2016 at 11:26 AM
To beat FSU:
Keep them at 3rd and throwing then get pressure on their QB. We absolutely cannot let Cook beast on us. Offense needs to click. Score early and often and get them thinking they are beaten again. FSU is on the ropes bad, but they will want this game and will fight for it.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | October 03, 2016 at 11:29 AM
Posted by: UMike | October 03, 2016 at 11:26 AM
Both games are big for different reasons.
Beat FSU = recruiting win. A national spotlight.
Beat UNC = achieving our goal of winning coastal.
We have to win at least 1 of them.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | October 03, 2016 at 11:31 AM
We could easily win 10 games, and NOT win the Coastal
Posted by: Lur-ker | October 03, 2016 at 11:34 AM
ACC announces North Carolina at Miami will be a 3:30 kick on either ABC, ESPN or ESPN2.
Posted by: Go,GoCanes! | October 03, 2016 at 11:35 AM
Dude... honestly we need to win both to have a chance at the Coastal But we have to beat UNC. Beating FSU and losing to UNC will lose us the coastal. Outside of maybe VT, UNC should smoke the rest of the ACC teams on their schedule.

I'm thinking the same thing Mike. I'm going down the list of top 25 (cause what else would one do at 11:30 Monday morning) and thinking it's difficult to say how we stack up without really knowing what our offense is, or whether or not our secondary is decent.
Posted by: 1mg of Epi | October 03, 2016 at 11:38 AM
Posted by: Lur-ker | October 03, 2016 at 11:34 AM
Good point. But I think UNC has stumble written on them.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | October 03, 2016 at 11:41 AM
Lots of teams could beat lots of teams. There's 20 teams that COULD beat us if we don't bring our A game. We don't have the talent of those teams of yesteryear, where you just needed to roll the ball out on the field and we just needed to show up.
One team ranked ahead of us that we would curb stomp today: Tennessee. We'd easily beat TAMU with our best game.
Our best game would probably not beat: Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Louisville without luck and a lot of help
Posted by: Lur-ker | October 03, 2016 at 11:44 AM
UNC will play close in almost every game they have left I think.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | October 03, 2016 at 11:44 AM
Said it last year, a very good to great QB can make team 30 a Top 10 team and one without can make a top 10 team vulnerable to loss every week.
Perfect examples are in our state. Turds D has been very good for years but their QBs have blown. Result has been whatever.
FSU goes to the show twice with Winston, now they're 5-5 in their last 10 against the power 5.
What's Louisville without Jackson? Even Clemson without Watson. Good but beatable.
So to answer your question Epi, I think anyone in back third of the top
25 can beat each other on any given Saturday with the team having the better QB having the edge.
Posted by: Go,GoCanes! | October 03, 2016 at 11:48 AM

I hope the only drops we have is from Canes droppin' Noles at the tailgate...can't have ANY drops in the game. And we gotta stop Cook, or at least slow em' down. Do those 2 things, and we win 3/4s the battle, pending ST play.
Posted by: CaneRock | October 03, 2016 at 11:48 AM

Saying UNC will stumble?
When has a Larry fedora UNC team not stumbled at least once or twice during the season?
They lost to a God awful South Carolina team last year, and they also should've beat Baylor in their bowl.
