NEW BLOG IS UP!

UMike

Someone asked about the Miami attendance at the game, I think it was Lurker.... It was dam near close to a neutral field game as far as fans. Our group left the game with about 4 mins to go since we had a good walk and kids and half way to the car we hear a huge roar, GT fans thought something good happened. It was Pickneys INT, it was the Miami fans.

Favorite week of the year! Beat FSU week!!

BigWindyCane1

The ACC and SEC are currently tied with 6 teams in the top 25. If this continues, no one can criticize the difficulty of the Canes schedule and few can even argue if two ACC teams are in the conversation for the College Football Playoffs.

The Canes control their own destiny in the ACC. A win on Saturday will go a long way toward reestablishing what we Canes fans have been waiting for years to experience - an ACC Championship.

thirstybuzzardcane

This is the most excited I've been for a game in a decade! Can't wait for Saturday!

thirstybuzzardcane

FSU gets confused on defense very easily. We need a high tempo offense just like ole miss and Louisville did to them. We'll have a shyt load of open receivers on Saturday night, hope Kaaya can find them.

Miami's best drive last Saturday was the drive after GT came within 7 points. I believe we hit 3 slant routes on that drive, so I'm expecting to see a whole lot of that against FSU.

Go,GoCanes!

CMR on QAM.

We had 8 more TFLs and 4 more sacks.

Only had 48 total offensive snaps.

Called himself a total knucklehead for calling that naked bootleg play for Kaaya we suggested get torn out of the playbook and immediately burned.

Think the play calling criticism is grasping at straws. Sometimes I think a few Canes fans do it to protect themselves from future disappointment.

I have no doubt we will see much more than we have. There has beeen zero reason to do things any differently than we have been.

How great will it be to run 20 plays or more on Saturday they've never seen on film. Can anyone give me a single reason why we should have shown even one of them in a game situation to this point?

FSU on the other hand is playing poker with it's hand face up, likely having shown everything they've got just to survive

I'd rather be us.

I think an OL needs to have some practice running at 8 man fronts. They have to know that they will sometimes be called to do so. The OL actually played really well too. They opened some huge holes but are still growing as a unit. That said, I agree we will have to be more creative to beat FSU and Im sure we will be. This needs to be Brad's show though. Time for a Miami QB to show up and kill a major rival. Its been too long.

Lur-ker

Not if what we saw Saturday was Rick not showing his hand. But if he makes a habit of running into 8 man fronts then maybe

Posted by: 1mg of Epi | October 02, 2016 at 09:08 PM

Right, because that particular line has been posted on a few boards, so now the peanut gallery takes it up.

I believe MR will do just fine with his playcalling, especially since even a mentally deficient person wouldn't run blindly into an eight man front for no reason. There's a reason for everything he's done so far.

He's been givin Kayaa a lot of pro-style practice and opportunities to improve his footwork in-game these first 4 games.

You will see more shotgun and spread, more hurry up this Saturday, because it's go-time, and Kayaa needs the shotgun to get in rhythm.

You saw him go to it with on Coley TD. Boom boom boom. Touchdown.

Then he reeled it in. To kill time.

On Saturday he unzips his fly and shows his d***.

BigWindyCane1

FSU is 0-2 in the ACC, with a chance to go 0-3 next week, drop out of the top 25, and lose some recruiting battles. A lot will be at stake. Jimbo will pull every trick he has out of his bag. The Canes are playing a desperate team with their back against the wall.

I am sure CMR wants to beat FSU in major way because this could be the start of something very big. If FSU can't do a better job rushing the passer, communicating on passing plays or stopping the run, the Canes might easily score 50 on them. CMR will open up that playbook and FSU won't know what hit them.

Go,GoCanes!

I don't need Saturday to tell me what CMR is mad of.

Herbieibis

Didn't get to see the game but the box score was enough for the herb. We had the, what 20 minutes and offense got us 21 pts., the herb computes that as a point or so a minute. Ah yes, our youthful defense did just enough. Those cup cakes we started out with helped our Dee numbers look good but the tests have only just begun. Richt better start opening the play book because 21 offensive points won't cut it against fsu or unc and those passing defensive stats will start to elevate and there won't be no use bashing Diaz or richt it's the hand they have been dealt this year but in the end depth of talent at certain positions may catch up to us. At this point da ville or Clemson might score half a hundred on us. Exciting times are coming. As long as they play hard and fast none of us should get to high or low, with this years team. As long as we play to win, instead of playing not to lose the her will be satisfied.

More:

Offense:

- We are #18 in yards per point
- Despite showing less than half of the formations and playcalls available to CMR and that I saw in fall practice, we are #5 in points per play
- Not surprisingly given the teams we've played and how the games have gone, we're 25th, 26th, 16th and 62nd in points per quarter in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, respectively.
- #3 in the country in yards per play. Yards per play differential from offense to defense is a critical number. We'll watch it for you over the next month.
- We plummeted in 3rd down conversion percentage in this last game. Big, big issue and it speaks to a few different things from Richt's decision not to throw on early downs to Kaaya's continued issues evading pass rushers. We're close to the same % we were last year.

All in all, the numbers appear skewed to me. The key is watching these very numbers over October's schedule and interpreting in the context of what I presume will finally be a fully open playbook.

Go,GoCanes!

Taken from a tweet Ariz just sent:

Here are some other statistics and tidbits I found noteworthy.

Defense:

- We allowed the least amount of yards to GaTech yesterday than we had in the last 5 years. That's somewhat misleading because it's not by much. We could have been better and our OLBs, Nickel and Safeties had some issues with the pitch play.
- At 3.6, Miami is #2 in the country in yards allowed per play. That includes being ahead of Michigan, Bama and Clemson. Of course, we played 3 easier teams to start the season, so this and the following numbers need to be kept under a close eye over the month of October.
- At 3.0, Miami is #5 in the country in 3rd down conversions per game.
- At 20%, Miami is #4 in the country in 3rd down conversion.
- The only team in the top 25 of 3rd down conversion % with a bigger differential than Miami from 2015 to 2016 is Toledo.
- In 2016, Miami has not allowed a point in the 4th quarter. Last year, we allowed just under 10 points per 4th. Like many of these, expect this to change.
- If it feels like Miami hasn't been tested through the air, it's because it hasn't yet. Opponents are averaging 125 yards passing per game, which lands us at the #1 spot.
- To go with that stat, Miami is allowing a mere 4.8 yards per pass attempt, which is #2 in the country (Michigan is #1 ).
- Sitting at #1, Miami is averaging 4.3 sacks/game
- One of the bigger passing defense numbers to look for over the next month is that we're only allowing 50% completion percentage. As I've said, we have not yet played a QB who can hit the intermediate

Nobody Wants a Spread Offense in Miami, but we do run Variations Sometimes. We Need to Let Kaaya open it Up More. The concern with that is Our Offensive Tackles. The Play Calling Wasn't Good, so Stop Giving Coach an Excuse. As Far as The Defense, I didn't Like The Scheme, and if GTWERE Smart They Should've run their Sweep Every Play. We Couldn't Stop Them. Based on What I Just Wrote. This Next Game will be better for our defense because that Wishbone Offense is Tricky.

100% with Co on that one too.

As a side note, Jackson is an absolute monster.

How did that kid fly so far under the radar,

NicKane

I completely agree with Co on this one. Clemson is the better team top to bottom period. ^^^^^^^^^^^

CoCane

If Clemson doesn't turn it over 5 times, they would've won convincingly. 1 int was a underthrow in the endzone that should've been a TD. Then a fumble inside the 5 that would've set up 1st & goal. Clemson was clearly the better team. Louisville is very good though. We have a lot of improving to do throughout the season to get on their level. I think we can do it...

Go,GoCanes!

Isn't the reality that we never had to, needed to or should have gotten "creative"?

Except for about 90 seconds of the second half we held a two TD or more lead against a team that generally needs half a quarter to score on us.

From the moment we went Richards, Richards, then Coley for the TD in about a minute, that game was essentially over. The D was fresh, had figured them out and we were cruising to an easy win.

1mg of Epi

Coolmac... the fact that Miami didn't have the game put away until late leads me to believe he may have just called crappy game. But the fact that he can't be that bad of a play caller leads me to believe he was just trying to speed the game up with the 14 point lead. Could be either. Doesn't matter now. 4-0 and top 10ish is the best possible scenario.

Coolmac758

People are Always Saying that CMR isn't showing his hand, but it may be that he hasn't called offensive plays in years. The Play calling Sucked. North Carolina has a Good Team, and we're going to have to fight FSU. I'm a Realist. Go Canes.

Get real TBC! Come on man, 9 out of 10 times?! That's just plain silly. If it wasn't for a bad 3rd quarter for Clemson it might of been a blowout. Idk if your an undercover Louisville fan but let's be real here my friend. Lol there's no way they beat them 9 out of 10. Maybe a split at best.

Bama, Clemson and the winner of Michigan-Ohio State are locks if they run the table.

Unless Washington wins out, I think Louisville or Houston make a hell of a case for that fourth spot if either of them wins out.

I don't mean burst your bubble here tbc but know the ACC won't have two teams in the playoffs. ACC sec big ten and pac twelve will get in. Big 12 and Houston left out.

BigWindyCane1

It looks like the Canes will be ranked about #10-11, and will play FSU, which will be ranked #25 or unranked, then a ranked UNC team that is very good. So far, CMR has been very vanilla on offense while FSU and UNC have shown us nearly every trick, reverse and route combination our defense can expect. The Canes are also at home in the Hard Rock.

The Canes beat GT , a solid ACC team. GT will be a winning, bowl eligible team this season. CMR did what he had to do to win. I also see some progress on both sides of the ball. Kaaya played well. The Canes have two good running backs. The coaches minimized the penalties and turnovers on the road. And no injuries! The Canes didn't beat themselves.

We can all talk, but championships are made on the field. These next two games are determine how good this Canes team will be. Two wins here, and the Canes will be playing for the ACC championship in Orlando in December.

He'll pretend he didn't spend five years counting snowflakes on a subscription site designed to retain paying customers Coke, it's how you know he was reaching to defend the fat loser and his stupid shower sharing roommate from Pedophile State by any means necessary. TS Mike Bradley needs somebody to chip in to fly a plane in order to pump up Smart Mark's inability to get over the hump at Georgia in a decade and a half since he still can't find a job sniffing underage jocks, so maybe star counter can help with that instead and provide some use that way since his counting isn't adding up ever?

GT is in the bottom of the division mix this year with Duke and Virginia, unlike those other two programs this one will get the head coach fired this year so you can unpack the B game and get out of the stadium with the most program home wins in history thanks to a couple of heads up returns by the defense who is carrying twice their designated load halfway through the year. Next week remains a tossup as always though and that performance by Miami will not win.

Smart Mark needs to understand, Georgia is obsessed with mainlining program identity purity and not screwing up the uniforms. He's an alumni here though so as long as the uniforms get un-uglied he doesn't have to worry about living up to any program identity crises and just run the ball from the I and offset I formation to set up the play action shots downfield because that's how this team is made up on offense and as long as he wins the fanbase will not care what kind of offensive attack he employs if Diaz keeps guessing correct which way his line is hedging on the snap more often than he guesses wrong.

The difference 1 year makes with a competent coaching staff is amazing. Good win today. Beat a difficult if flawed team on the road = important step for a young defense. Beat the spread. Games just keep getting more difficult and our OL & DL play has to improve. I'm confident with the direction we're headed but realize MR can only do so much in Year 1. "Just Win Baby" should be our motto...it ain't going to be dominant but it's dam better than it was and has a dam bright future. The Big Uglies need to play better though. Happy we won, not 100% convinced we're as good as we're ranked. Division is ours for the taking though.
