None of those three will take a single UM recruit. Especially when we start taking care of business on a regular.

Posted by: Go Canes! | December 11, 2016 at 08:21

I agree 100 percent with GO here. TBC neither strong or butch will take one single power five level recruit away from Miami or the other two of the big three in Florida. That's a fact! If you think a legit Miami, fsu or UF caliber kid is going to either of those group of five schools then you need to brush up on how recruiting works. It don't matter if it's butch or strong, or any coach, no pwer five level recruit is going to those schools.

From the moment we went down 20-0 to Notre Dame and CMR really started to change the offense:

4-1, 1455 yards passing, 11 TD passes and 1 INT that wasn't his fault.

Do you really think one of two freshmen, one of which is currently in high school, is going to come in and do better than that

thirstybuzzardcane

During Butch's time at UNC:

The Tar Heels’ seven first-round draft picks during that span is one more than Florida State and one more than than Clemson and Virginia Tech combined.

thirstybuzzardcane

Navaughn Donaldson is one big mother fuker. IMO, he's my #1 priority recruit that we need!!! He will be in the 2 deep next year and wouldn't be surprised if he's starting by the end of the season!

Go Canes!

Fixed it for you:

Jerry's cell phone rings: This is Jerry, please leave a message:

Butch: "Hey Jeudy, have you seen the numerous players I've sent to the NFL? Do you realize all the first rounders & pro bowlers I've produced! You are going to make millions, son!"

Jerry: Delete

No disrespect to Butch, but these kids were either not born or in diapers when he was putting together his teams.

And even if they are incredibly impressed with him from the U documentaries, he's still coaching at FIU, pretty much the worst football program in Florida.

I don't doubt him, he can spot talent like no one else Ive ever seen. But that's how he will get it done at FIU, by finding under the radar kids with talent and a ton of potential, not by stealing 4-5 star recruits from UM or any big time program.

Da U N Houston

I wonder if Kiffin leaves and offers Cristabol a position will he leave. That'll leave a mark

The day a player like Jerry Jeudy takes an official to FIU while committed to Bama, you'll be right.

Until then, implying that program will ever be in our same stratosphere when vying for the elite caliber recruits we go after makes you look like a complete buffoon.

Posted by: Go Canes! | December 11, 2016 at 09:31 PM

Agreed. FIU needs someone like Art Briles. Someone whose innovative system can string together wins with mostly two star talent. After a couple of years of unexpected success he can then start attracting three star players. Extrapolate out three more years of success, and winning your conference and sneaking into the Top 15 or even Top 10, then you can start pulling in the four star players.

That's how Art Briles built Baylor from 2007 until 2015. It wasn't until the 2016 class that he began pulling in significant amounts of four star players. That's how you build an FIU into a power.

But it starts with an innovative system that stays one step ahead of everyone in the conference and maximizes who you have (ala Harbaugh in San Fran)

Thank you.

That is the nicest thing a COMPLETE idiot like you has ever said about me. U have no perspective, no clue and no frame of reference to use to establish your analysis.

Ohio_Cane

Donaldson is a starter at tackle day 1 next season. Top priority to keep committed

Go Canes!

No frame of reference?

Good lord.

Here is the ESPN 300 for this year. You can actually go back as far as you want.

http://www.espn.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/playerrankings/_/view/rn300/sort/rank/class/2017

Show me a single player on there who's committed to a non power 5 school. Why not, just find one who's considering one.

Go further, show me one going to a small school powerhouse like Appalachian State. Or let's 4 time defending champions North Dakota State.

My frame of reference is every single big time recruit, every single year for the past 30 years.

The only one making ridiculous assumptions is you.

Yeah, Butch is going to come in and make FIU, a crap commuter school in a whatever conference, stuck in the middle of Westchester, with no real facilities to speak of and a shoe string budget a national power and start taking elite recruits from Miami.

Give me a break.

Have another scotch and go sleep this one off. you're embarrassing yourself again.

The Dude

If Richt loses the bowl, the wheels will fall off any momentum Miami currently has. This is the most important game in years. A win over a top 15 team could be just the thing. An embarrassing loss where the O sucks and no new OC in the off season and forget it.

Boise State started getting a 4 star kid every other cycle. Plus 3 star kids all the time that Power 5 schools wanted. Houston got a 5 star DT everyone wanted under Herman. USF gets 4 star and 5 star kids from time to time and USF was ranked #2 in the country fairly recently. Louisville wasnt a power 5 when it got Brian Brohm and beat us all the time for kids we wanted, Bridgewater etc.

The Dude

Butch is quietly puttinh together an interesting staff. A couple of former Hurricanes and guys like Harris... Innovative OC Dan Hawkins of Boise State fame, the guy before Chris Petersen, that recruited 2 star 1st round pick, pro bowl NFL tackle Ryan Clady. And Pete Garcia will coordinate recruiting. If you have any knowledge of football at all, that is something to keep an eye on, especially if Richt cant beat the likes of Notre Dame.

VA Cane

Butch and Strong may not get the 5 stars.....but it aint like we are getting them either. While many of these kids may not have been born when BD was building the greatest college team ever.....their parents, coaches, teachers, brothers, cousins, parents friends....etc....in HS football crazy FL were around. They know who BD is....a lot of people know and remember him....and it is a fact....he built the greatest college team ever at the U.

Strong is younger and he has a strong reputation. You build great teams with 5s and 4s.....but depth you get the 3s 2s....even unwanted guys and you coach them up.....make them good players!Butch got a lot of guys that were not 5s.....look at his great teams...lot of those guys were unknown!!!

Fact is it will remain to be seen if CMR can pull the greats.....he did pretty good keeping the AlPa class here....but can he recruit the elites? dont know. The top dogs can come to FL.... Bama, OSU, USC, OK, Clemson MI....and point at us and say....not even in our class, not contender, not top 10.....and they are right. We are not Top 25 per rankings.....we WERE elite at one time....been a while. We are not an elite program, and we have not pulled truly elite guys in a good while ...though we can get there again....but BD CS will get peoples attention.

We got to the point with Clappy, Onion, and AlPa where even after 12 poor seasons....I think all 3 thought we are the U, we can get whoever we want......keep believing that dream. I think CMR will be aggressive, respect the competition and go hard after all kids.....never think you cannot get out recruited.....I think BD being in the area ought to challenge our staff to work really hard....never doubt the competition.

I hope we can pull JJ; cross them folks!!!

I do hope Njoku stays....great kid ....I think BK is not ready...but we will see.

The Dude

Nevemind on Hawkins, he was hired as UC Davis HC.

“Miami and West Virginia play a bowl game so I’m going to determine off of that,” Harley said on Friday night after winning a third consecutive state championship at St. Thomas Aquinas. “Whoever wins that’s where I’m going. It’s about the coaches at the end of the day.”

My point... Its at the very least the "Mike Harley Bowl."

If Miami lands McFarland he will be next year's starter at some point.

Do the best you can with what you've got.

Don't suck on purpose to try to get what you ain't got.

I'm not being a homer here, I just don't believe one word his coaches saying.

Couldn't be further from the truth.

CMR has been through way too many of these battles to waste time and energy wasted by some recruit looking for a free weekend.

They weren't going to give this kid all the attention they did on such an important weekend unless they felt there was something legitimate there, even if the percentage was relatively small.

UMike

So if he same coach had said the visit went great and Miami leads... you wouldn't believe him?

UMike

We have had plenty of big time recruits take visits and not flip, so why is it so crazy to think he is still firm to Bama? Im not saying he is, just seems you completely brushed aside the kids own coaches comments because they didnt align with your opinion.

UMike

We should know by the 18th either way. When did we last get someone from Deerfield...I dont think it was that long ago, but been a while since we got anyone elite from there, I think.

Please name the things Kaaya does so well that can't be replaced by Allison?

According to the source with the inside info on Jeudy, his HS coach is not involved in with recruiting at all. Had said as recent as last week that there was zero chance he would OV. In this pecific case, his coach does not seem to have all the up to date info.

Go Canes!

Posted by: SinisterCane | December 12, 2016 at 08:11 AM

Really?

Exactly how many collegiate passes has Allison thrown? So you're basing this idea that he can do everything better based on what?

INCLUDING the INT against the Irish, over the second half of the season Kaaya threw 191 passes. Eleven went for touchdowns and two were intercepted. One of those INTs was clearly not his fault, one clearly was.

SinisterCane

Projected Round (2017): 3-4.
12/7/16: One general manager of a playoff team that is very skilled at quarterback evaluation said they had Kaaya as fifth-round pick. They feel he has no mobility, can't throw well while under pressure, and while his arm is decent, he doesn't blow them away. Two other teams said they graded Kaaya as a late third-, early fourth-rounder. Multiple teams also expressed that they have concerns about Kaaya lacking leadership.

Who cares about the NFL.

What I care about is 11 TDs and 1500 yds passing down the stretch, LEADING this program to the strongest finish it's had in I can't remember how long.

I'll take that over the fantasy you've created about a redshirt freshman who's never thrown a college pass.

Miami is about to make a power move

Look for there to be a new member added to the recruiting staff in the near future. A move that will affect next year's class in a BIG way.

Could also potentially affect this class as well.

I've been on the kaaya is average ship since last season, and have said I hope he leaves several times, BUT I think I was wrong. We need him to come back.
1) he hasn't had good playcalling since he's been here. If Richt is who we hope he is, he should be able to run the offense to its strengths.

1) If somebody like Jeudey comes here, it going to be at least in part because of a senior QB and not in spite of an unknown first year starter.

Insider on Jeudy:

Guys, there will be nothing new coming from me on this.

He saw Miami yesterday & 'Bama.

That amount of time is irrelevant, what they ate is irrelevant, & what they did is irrelevant.

Don't expect some HUGE announcement with doves flying out of a limo or some BS like that, because he is not that type of kid.

He has a strong support system that will not lead him in the wrong direction for ANY reason at all. (This system does not include pro-gator Glen)

If he sticks with 'Bama that's where they feel he will do best at. If he flips to Miami that's where they feel he will do best at.

We presented our "pitch" to him and now we just wait and see where the young man and his support system feel most comfortable
