They got a 5 star kid back in the day. Had grade issues though.

Posted by: The Dude | December 12, 2016 at 01:02 PM

Link? Facts?

NicKane (casual fan)

Jason Pierre-Paul was a 5*.

And although Barrington & Webster weren't 5*s comin' outta HS., USF beat us out for those 2...and they're in the NFL.

The type of kids USF used to get under Leavitt, are the type of kids that Strong turned around the UL program with...although Bridgewater played a big role in Strong going 23-3 His last 2 years.

Richt bet' not slip.

JPP was a 4 star CR. USF has never gotten a 5 star once period!

The kid I was thinking of is DiShon Platt, but like I said it may have been grades that had him end up there.

While I'm encouraged about the future because of this staff and how they e recruited in their 11 months at Miami, I'm also discouraged with kids leaving home to play for someone else. We will not be elite again until we land kids like Jeudy, Dalvin, etc, year after year, every damn year. Maybe 2018 kids will start it.

(We're still going to have a top 12, maybe top 10 class)

We won't get those kids until we start winning ACC championships. It's very hard to pry those kids away from an Urban Meyer or Nick Saban when they are competing for national championships each year.

Richt's model for success should be Dabo's. Build up the program to a point where it is winning ACC Championships and in the national championship tournament. Dabo's talent level two years ago was not much greater than Golden's.

TonyCane

It's saying he's torn between winning multiple championships at Bama and staying home and being near his mom.

Posted by: Ohio_Cane | December 12, 2016 at 04:35 PM

One thing is that Nick Saban in 65 years old. He'll turn 66 next October. It's more than feasible that by the time that Jeudy is entering his junior year that Saban will be retired or back in the NFL for one last go.

There's no guarantee that when Saban goes that Cristobal or any of the other potential successors continue that level of success. That's one thing I've learned watching Miami and UT football since 2001. Success can ebb away quickly. Texas went from a NC appearance in 2009 to a 5 win season a year later.

The other thing - I will keep saying this - there is no way that college football programs can continue to spend on athletic programs the way that they are currently doing so. There will be a backlash, and places like Ohio State, Alabama, and Texas will be in the spotlight.

The Dude

Have to win. Beat WV.

Go Canes!

We don't need to wait for anyone to retire.

We've picked up a lot of quality local guys already. Ford, Bandy, Garvin and the rest are super talented players and we've added Dee Jay, DJ from Sacramento and hopefully McFarland from up north.

Nor flipping Jeudy sucks but we're adding national recruits that wouldn't have looked at us before.

Need to win 10 games and the Coastal next year and continue to add every year.

It's not going to happen overnight and we do need to keep the Jeudys of the world, but getting to a very talented and deep 85 is just as important.

Herbieibis

Yeah go to bama and catch 30 passes a year but have a chance to win a ship every year, tough decision!
Got to win the big games period, if we are going to get some of these big dogs. Winning the big games, has been our albetros. Losing 3 of the 4 games, as we did this year, that we shouldn't have lost is what's killing us. Play calling, qb play and our o-line all played a part in our losses. It' great we finished with 4 wins but we should beat those teams.
As I said before the recruits we have, for the most part are good. We need great. I don't see a wr I'm excited about, nor a rb. We have one de that they will convert to a dt. We have depending on what cite u look on 5 to 8 (4) star players, this ain't going to get us where we need to be. We have and must win this bowl game.
If kaaya comes back we have a chance to roll and even though the herb thinks he has bricks for feet, he gives us the best chance and not some greenhorn. Defense should be stout next year. It would be a shame to have waste that with a first year starting qb. The year after 2018 we can deal with.

If Richt doesnt hire a big time OC, then he's no Dabo either. But Richt said he got bored being a CEO and wants to call plays. This is Miami's Achilles heel. Manny Diaz can build something elite. Time to get an OC that gets results and steps on necks. If Richt doesnt, we're not coming back, just slightly better than what we've had. A bunch of 8, 9 and 10 win seasons coming our way.

Wait, wait, WAIT...I thought someone here said that what does losing two more games really matter anyway? Now who was that???

Go Canes!

That was me. But since your limited IQ only allows you to understand bits and pieces of larger concepts, I can understand why you didn't get the context in which it was said.

Go Canes!

And it's funny how you don't notice when others want Kaaya out the door so that Allison or Perry can develop, even at the expense of wins.

Btw those other two are our backups next year. As a casual fan you probably didn't know that.

The Dude

Hows this? Nick Saban, Rams?

WWIN

Let me play 😈 advocate here... haven't played that in awhile lol! On this Kaaya situation...

Who's to say he's better than Rosier, Shariffs, Allison, or Perry??? Just because you start doesn't mean you're better.

We just needed a QB that could run a little, move in the pocket, not fold under pressure, and be able to throw to open receivers this year. IMO if our other QB's can't do that they're wasting scholarships here.

P.S. I love Kaaya... he's a great kid! I think he'll improve if he does come back which I think he did these past 4.5 games

1mg of Epi

we don't need the 5* guys if the talent evaluators can find the underrated gems. We can try and go toe to toe w Saban, urban and the elites... But it'd be nice if we also did what Miami used to.

WWIN

Richt DOES NOT get credit for getting JJ to visit... sorry but this game isn't played that way!

But on the other hand... he's not to be blamed for losing him... he was playing with house money

How are we going to win like we USE TO without those elite 5☆ players???

The Dude

There are about a million things right about Miami. In no particular order.

1. No area has more talent in local high schools.

2. Miami is a great location in itself.

3. Hard Rock is a bitchin stadium.

In my opinion only 1 thing can hold the program back. Bad coaching. When the CEO at Miami consistantly adds the best teachers of football, Miami wins. Manny Diaz is a great teacher. Richt sucks as an OC. He will suck again next year. The offense, especially running the ball is a sh*t show. Miami has a play action QB, and Richt runs from the gun. Sorry but that is stupid and theres not much to excuse it. When Richt finally realizes his offense sucks or when the admin steps up and says so, and Miami finally hires a great OC to go with the DC, things will take off like a rocket. If Richt doesnt hire a good OC, my fear is he'll be the stubborn to change guy, and by the time he hires a good OC, (hopefully not just a buddy) Diaz is already moving on to greener pastures. The future is right now. They need to get a full time OC. An elite one. Show everyone you are serious.

The Dude

Miami has 15 days to get ready to beat WV. Miami needs a win in the worst way. Then they need to get serious about their staff.

The Dude

2018 is already shaping up to have big misses for Miami.

The Dude

I still cant believe the last time Miami won a bowl game I was there.

TonyCane

Dude, as crazy and ridiculous as it sounds, the rumor is Harbaugh to the Rams

The Dude

I hope Miami can capitalize on WV's defense. They dont pressure the QB much and they rarely make TFL. This is outstanding style of play for Miami's horrible running scheme where every run takes a year to develop behind the line. Also, WV doesnt defend the deep ball too well. Paging Mr. Coley, Paging Mr. Richards. Your presence is requested in the end zone.

WWIN

Posted by: The Dude | December 13, 2016 at 12:00 AM

Was the defense more about Kool or Diaz???

I say Kool > Diaz

The Dude

^^^ Diaz in a big way. The scheme is perfect. He has corners attacking the short routes. 2 Freshmen All American LBs. Everyone got better on D. Diaz has them ready for every game.

UMike

I agree that CMR and staff are a big upgrade over Golden, but can we please stop with the type of thinking that Golden "wouldnt of even got JJ on the phone"... that is bs. Everyone here knows I hate Golden and bashed the shyt out of him, but he DID get visits from big names and elite recruits. Lets not act like CMR is the only one that did. Tracy Howard we pulled, Cook signed financial papers, we got Kaaya from the east coast, got 4-Star Doboard from Louisiana etc. So yes Golden also recruited nationally (Nujuko, AQm etc). Every year we got a big name elite guy on campus and every year you guys start with the "were gonna flip" him nonsense...

When you lose 4 straight on national TV, its hard to pull elite kids. I think we have the staff who can pull elite kids, but they havent so far so no credit due.

Golden didnt close the deal with the elite players just like CMR hasnt. Lets not be satisfied with a dam visit, because Golden and staff got those too.

UMike

^^^Golden also flipped Burns from Bama

UMike

And not trying to bash CMR, JMO he hasnt done anything to this point that Golden hadnt done. I will say this, CMR classes surely have less project guys, less risky guys.

Go Canes!

The whole recruiting thing has turned into what everything else seems to on here, a cryfest..

Just because we didn't flip Jeudy doesn't mean we don't have a great class.

We do have elite kids already who are 100% committed and actively recruiting for us.

And we are signing undervalued gems no one is even taking a second to appreciate. Anyone see Jonathan Garvin's numbers?

Doubt it so here they are:

Garvin had 93 tackles, 36 tackles for loss, nine sacks and six forced fumbles as a junior and was the defensive line MVP of The Opening Event at Miami back in March.

His senior stats may be even better.

His SPARQ rating is 97.89. Outstanding. That’s comparable to a familiar 2014 Canes recruit, Chad Thomas, Miami’s last five-star recruit. At the same point in time approaching their senior years in high school, Thomas was 6’-4”/240, while Garvin is 6’3.5”/222. Thomas’ 40 was 4.85; Garvin’s is 4.87. Thomas’ vertical was 30.9” and Garvin’s is 36.0”. While measurables are not always an indicator of talent level, it does show Garvin’s upside is outstanding.

He had offers from EVERYONE but shut it down early cause he wanted to be a Cane since birth. So he stayed a 3 Star

If he had played the game, held out and committed today to an FSU, UGA or Tennessee with those intangibles and the monster stats he put up the last two years he'd be a borderline 5 Star

Things are better than they have been in YEARS, so again stoo crying for gods sake.

UMike

Go Canes...you have made that same exact post for 6-8 years haha

Go Canes!

Quite the opposite. I've been the one saying sanctions and the NCAA investigation hurt us from a depth and overall talent level.

I'd say next year will be the deepest team we've had in several years.

And for the first time in a long time we have zero reasons stopping us from continuing down that path.

UMike

I'd say next year will be the deepest team we've had in several years.

Posted by: Go Canes! | December 13, 2016 at 06:54 AM

Pretty sure ive heard this from you a few times also :)

But I do agree we have no reasons (I thought so last few years) to move forward. 11 points away from 11-1 is great. But we wont get the same "bad" FSU team, UNC will be better, VT will be better etc. Really some missed opportunities this year. Imagine those 11 points go our way. We play for the ACC title, maybe even make it into the playoffs. Our recruiting would of spiked big time.

Coolmac758

Glad The Judy Saga is Gone. He Wasn't a Cane. Devaughn Dingle appears to be a Player that Some Like and Some Don't, but He's a True Cane. I See Harley changed his mind about picking the Winner of the Bowl. He Needs to Commit because He wants to be a Cane. Daewood, the kid from Bell Glades and the Receiver from Pahokee Want to be Canes, but we searching all over the place for Receiver's when Local Guys Want to be Canes.

UMike

Coolmac...while I understand what you are saying, an at one point I thought the same way...it is a flawed way of seeing recruiting.

Of course we want guys that want to be Canes, but not all those kids are good enough. We cant just go after every kid that ONLY wants to be a Cane. We need to recruit the best players we can regardless of who their favorite team is. If we were able to get lets say Dalvin Cook, we most likely win those close games this year and are in the playoffs. Who gives a shyt if he didnt wanna be a Cane before he got to Miami, their Canes from then on. IDC if a kid roots for the Gayturds, if he is elite and we can get him to come to Miami, come on down.

CaneRock

Look at UMike actin' like He too big for His britches cuz CC won State...[]_ _[]Miiiiiike!...LOL.

Ariz: Gus Edwards is still eyeing a potential graduate transfer to either Rutgers or Syracuse -- it would give him the chance to be more of the main option at a program close to home. He is set to graduate in May and would not be required to sit out.

Courtel Jenkins is another name to monitor when it comes to a possible transfer. He would not be a grad transfer, but it appears he is seeking more playing time -- Rutgers is a rumored program as well.

Gerald Willis was grappling with the idea for declaring for the draft this season, but ultimately knew he doesn't have enough film yet. Source said he played the second half of the season with a torn meniscus as well.

A few bowl game suspensions for the freshmen crew is coming. None of the main contributors, though.

The sense in the locker room is that David Njoku is 100% gone to the NFL draft. He has given the team every indication that the bowl will be his final game as a Hurricane.

My IQ is just fine thank U. I graduated from the University of Miami with a 3.83 GPA and with honors so no issues there.

U just can't ever admit that U are wrong, have blinders on and are such a homer that you are completely incapable of being a fair and objective observer of all things Canes.

That's not MY opinion that is the blog CONSENSUS opinion. The entire blog is not wrong, U are. All we ask is for U to just accept your role and move on, but U are not even capable of doing that.

CaneRock

But UMike, I disagree that this staff can't pull elite kids.

IIRC, didn't one of the freshman LBs (McCloud?) de-commit?...if so, they closed the deal on that one...payed off big dividends if you ask me.

And Richards and Bruce were/are elite, and they closed the deal on those 2...actually beat Bama,FSU, & OSU, among others, for those 2. We don't land any of em' if Golden was still here.

Matter of fact, IIRC, we beat Bama for 9 kids this year, it's Nationally where we have to pick it up.

CR,,,It wasnt my intention to say this staff cant pull elite plays...Im saying people are acting like having an elite guy come for a visit is something new around here.

Golden beat out Bama for kids also...

CR, I cant think of any that came back before those guys. Did Yearby commit to Miami before FSU?

I think you see and believe what you want about what I post.

That's your shortcoming not mine.

You obviously go right past the literally hundreds of times I've typed the words I agree 100%, great point, exactly right and compliments I pay to other posters.

If you don't like what I write you can do one of two things, ignore it or ban me. I'm fine with either.

But your constant posts that do nothing but name call like a four year old are boring and childish.
