Butch is quietly puttinh together an interesting staff. A couple of former Hurricanes and guys like Harris... Innovative OC Dan Hawkins of Boise State fame, the guy before Chris Petersen, that recruited 2 star 1st round pick, pro bowl NFL tackle Ryan Clady. And Pete Garcia will coordinate recruiting. If you have any knowledge of football at all, that is something to keep an eye on, especially if Richt cant beat the likes of Notre Dame.

Boise State started getting a 4 star kid every other cycle. Plus 3 star kids all the time that Power 5 schools wanted. Houston got a 5 star DT everyone wanted under Herman. USF gets 4 star and 5 star kids from time to time and USF was ranked #2 in the country fairly recently. Louisville wasnt a power 5 when it got Brian Brohm and beat us all the time for kids we wanted, Bridgewater etc.

This is so much fun!

If Richt loses the bowl, the wheels will fall off any momentum Miami currently has. This is the most important game in years. A win over a top 15 team could be just the thing. An embarrassing loss where the O sucks and no new OC in the off season and forget it.

Go Canes!

No frame of reference?

Good lord.

Here is the ESPN 300 for this year. You can actually go back as far as you want.

http://www.espn.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/playerrankings/_/view/rn300/sort/rank/class/2017

Show me a single player on there who's committed to a non power 5 school. Why not, just find one who's considering one.

Go further, show me one going to a small school powerhouse like Appalachian State. Or let's 4 time defending champions North Dakota State.

My frame of reference is every single big time recruit, every single year for the past 30 years.

The only one making ridiculous assumptions is you.

Yeah, Butch is going to come in and make FIU, a crap commuter school in a whatever conference, stuck in the middle of Westchester, with no real facilities to speak of and a shoe string budget a national power and start taking elite recruits from Miami.

Give me a break.

Have another scotch and go sleep this one off. you're embarrassing yourself again.

Ohio_Cane

Donaldson is a starter at tackle day 1 next season. Top priority to keep committed

Until then, implying that program will ever be in our same stratosphere when vying for the elite caliber recruits we go after makes you look like a complete buffoon.

Agreed. FIU needs someone like Art Briles. Someone whose innovative system can string together wins with mostly two star talent. After a couple of years of unexpected success he can then start attracting three star players. Extrapolate out three more years of success, and winning your conference and sneaking into the Top 15 or even Top 10, then you can start pulling in the four star players.

That's how Art Briles built Baylor from 2007 until 2015. It wasn't until the 2016 class that he began pulling in significant amounts of four star players. That's how you build an FIU into a power.

But it starts with an innovative system that stays one step ahead of everyone in the conference and maximizes who you have (ala Harbaugh in San Fran)

Da U N Houston

I wonder if Kiffin leaves and offers Cristabol a position will he leave. That'll leave a mark

Fixed it for you:

Jerry's cell phone rings: This is Jerry, please leave a message:

Butch: "Hey Jeudy, have you seen the numerous players I've sent to the NFL? Do you realize all the first rounders & pro bowlers I've produced! You are going to make millions, son!"

Jerry: Delete

No disrespect to Butch, but these kids were either not born or in diapers when he was putting together his teams.

And even if they are incredibly impressed with him from the U documentaries, he's still coaching at FIU, pretty much the worst football program in Florida.

I don't doubt him, he can spot talent like no one else Ive ever seen. But that's how he will get it done at FIU, by finding under the radar kids with talent and a ton of potential, not by stealing 4-5 star recruits from UM or any big time program.

thirstybuzzardcane

Navaughn Donaldson is one big mother fuker. IMO, he's my #1 priority recruit that we need!!! He will be in the 2 deep next year and wouldn't be surprised if he's starting by the end of the season!

From the moment we went down 20-0 to Notre Dame and CMR really started to change the offense:

4-1, 1455 yards passing, 11 TD passes and 1 INT that wasn't his fault.

Do you really think one of two freshmen, one of which is currently in high school, is going to come in and do better than that

I agree 100 percent with GO here. TBC neither strong or butch will take one single power five level recruit away from Miami or the other two of the big three in Florida. That's a fact! If you think a legit Miami, fsu or UF caliber kid is going to either of those group of five schools then you need to brush up on how recruiting works. It don't matter if it's butch or strong, or any coach, no pwer five level recruit is going to those schools.

Not good for Miami with Butch and Strong down here. All we need now is Kiffin to take the FAU job!

Why is he behind Ridley at Bama, but not behind Richards at Miami? So Kiffin might not come back... Sark runs the same offense as Kiffin, and even if both left, is there any doubt that Bama wouldnt pay any amount for someone good? Lastly the QBs. If Brad jumps pro, he'd have to work with a freshman at Miami.

The Dude

Vance will be his DC I bet. He'll get a bunch of guys that recruit SF.

We have a good chance for Juedy- Alabama did not renew Kiffins contract so he's gone. Who's gonna be the next OC? Sark? Would he go to where a new OC is coming in and you only have one QB on the roster? Plus hes gonna be behind Ridley where he could start for the U from day 1.

The Work: Jeudy, Donaldson, and much more
**Where to start on Jerry Jeudy? First, let's look back to the summer when Jeudy committed to the Crimson Tide. Those within the Miami football offices assured me that this staff would not give up on Jeudy. I wouldn't say they were "confident" in their chances to flip him, but they truly felt like his decision was much closer than some had made it seem. A source close to Jeudy told CanesInSight that the Canes gave him a lot to think about after Paradise Camp and that there was a point after that where some believed Miami had put themselves in position to land a surprise commitment before Saban sealed the deal. However, Canes WR coach Ron Dugans stayed in contact with Jeudy over the past few months and Miami knew that they had to conduct the recruitment as far under the radar as possible. The staff put the wheels in motion to get the nation's top-ranked wide receiver on campus beginning last Thursday, a day before Deerfield Beach's state semifinal game against Southridge. Step one was Dugans setting up an in-home visit with Jeudy, which was facilitated through the help of Jeudy's brother. Dugans stressed the importance of getting in-home with Jeudy and he even made it known that Mark Richt was planning to clear his entire schedule -- regardless of other visits he had planned to be there for that in-home visit. So, Dugans and Richt visited Jeudy on Monday night and were able to convince him to take a visit. According to a source, there wasn't even necessarily a hard sell needed -- this was something that Jeudy had been considering doing for some time and Miami coaches were confident they would get him on campus before the dead period, as I had alluded to on the podcast two weeks ago. Regardless of reports out there, the plan had been for it to be an official visit. Miami wasn't sure if he would stay through the weekend, but they wanting him getting all of the normal benefits of an official visit. Jeudy ended up staying through the weekend, which was a good sign, but is also not something to look too deeply in to. The major thing to point out here is that although Miami put the absolute full-court press on Jeudy this weekend, this visit was not something that he was "forced" into taking. Miami also knew that if word got out too soon about the visit, then there could be a move made by Alabama to try and prevent the visit. Jeudy alerted the Bama staff that he'd be taking the trip the night before he got on campus, and there was nothing that they could do to stop it at that point.

So now the big question -- where does Miami stand after the weekend? This is going to be a heavyweight battle down the stretch. As now-legendary CIS poster Tweed has put it, "Miami is at the table" and have given themselves a legitimate chance down the stretch. This was not a courtesy visit. This staff is very big on only allowing kids to visit if they are serious about their intentions, and they were not going to go through the trouble they did to set it up for someone who was going to disrespect the process.

As I had posted in the thread yesterday, I'm told Jeudy stood next to Richt during the 7-on-7 portion of practice yesterday and was fully engaged. Richt was paying extra close attention to both Jeudy and Navaughn Donaldson this weekend, according to multiple sources.

What's next? Look for Bama to go in-home with him today and that will give them a better idea of where they are and the sort of room that Miami has made up.

One more thing I will point out for those who missed it in the thread. Bama receiver Calvin Ridley and Jerry Jeudy's relationship is well-versed at this point. Jeudy looks at Ridley as a big brother and it was one of the big reasons why he chose the Crimson Tide in the first place. Sources tell CanesInSight that the two have discussed his decision, and that Ridley has not only given him his blessing to sign with the Canes, but is telling him that Miami is a very good situation for him, especially as his family endures a difficult situation.

You can never underestimate the power of Nick Saban and Alabama, but the Hurricanes are very much alive in this race. It would not shock me to see Miami also try to get another in-home with Jeudy tonight to wrap up the weekend and stay in his head, but again the staff wants to avoid being "pushy" here, while still pulling out all the stops that they can.

To once again quote Tweed, there's no point in making predictions or putting percentages on Miami's chances right now. All you can do is give Richt and staff credit for their handling of the situation and getting a program-changing type prospect like Jeudy to give Miami a serious look, against the odds.

**Navaughn Donaldson was equally as important of a prospect on campus this weekend for the Hurricanes. I had been told for weeks heading into the visit that Miami was not worried about a flip to UF or FSU prior to this weekend, and that this visit only solidified that more. A UF source even told CanesInSight that they realistically expect Donaldson to stick with his commitment. Florida State believes that they are still alive, but with Donaldson enrolling early and coming off of a strong visit to Miami, it would be very difficult for the Noles to make a big push as the dead period strikes tonight at midnight. Donaldson and running back commit Robert Burns were "attached at the hip" this weekend as well, according to a source.

**As I've posted for about a month, C.J. Henderson continues to lean strongly in UF's direction and a couple different sources close to Henderson do not believe that his official visit to Miami this weekend will have any effect on him changing his mind. It is likely that we hear less and less of Henderson's name being associated with Miami as he nears an announcement. The Canes will focus their attention at defensive back on junior college cornerback Jhavonte Dean, who will visit January 13th weekend, as well as Miramar defensive back Brian Edwards, who Miami defensive coaches believe can play either cornerback or free safety in their scheme. Edwards will take an official visit to Miami January 27th-29th, the final weekend before national signing day. Southridge safety Antwan Collier remains on the radar as well, and would almost certainly commit on the spot if Miami chooses to offer.

**Last thing and it is not recruiting related, but as CanesInSight reported two weeks ago, it still appears that tight end David Njoku is headed to the NFL draft. Multiple people close to the program say that Njoku has given nearly every indication that the Russell Athletic Bowl will be his final as a Hurricane.

Mark and Jon Richt have also already had multiple meetings with Brad Kaaya and his support system that will be helping him make his decision on whether to stay for his senior season, or declare for the NFL draft. My personal opinion, and I stress "opinion" because this is not something set in stone, but I believe Kaaya is also leaning towards foregoing is final season to enter the draft. I would expect for him to have a decision made prior to the bowl game and then look for a final announcement shortly thereafter.

Barry • Among the unexpected visitors on UM’s campus this weekend: five-star receiver Jerry Jeudy, an Alabama oral commitment who is rated the No. 1 receiver and No. 12 overall prospect.

So is he really considering UM? Linebacker BJ Jennings, a UM oral commitment who also visited Miami this past week, told Canesport that Jeudy told him that he’s considering UM.

But Jeudy’s high-school coach, Jevon Glenn, told CaneSport: “I talked to him after, he's still with Alabama. He just went down because he had nothing else to do for the most part. He was thinking about going to North Carolina (Saturday), didn't feel it so stayed at Miami. He just went down, wasn't going to think about flipping."

There’s better news for UM with four-star Maryland based running back Anthony McFarland, who named UM as his front-runner:

“I don’t know where I want to go right now but, as far as having a good relationship and being in a great environment, if I had a top school right now it would be Miami, Maryland, and then Alabama in that order," McFarland told Rivals. "I’ve never put out a list of schools in order before but it’s getting down to the last minute so I need to have an order. Things change every week so it could be different next week.”

On who has impacted his recruitment the most, McFarland told Rivals: “I would say Trajan Bandy. That’s my guy. When he found out I was one of the top backs thinking about Miami he started texting me and sending me messages and information about Miami. He lives there so he’s just telling me everything. It’s going to be tough for me to not go to that school.”

Rivals rated McFarland the nation’s No. 3 all-purpose back and No. 135 overall prospect in the 2017 class.

Good post GC. I forgot about Torrance Gibson from American Heritage, who went to OSU. Urban Meyer moved him to WR, then suspended him for the season. Canes fans were also disappointed when Dewayne Lawson decommitted and went to Virginia Tech. Lawson was suspended and kicked off the Virginia Tech team. Many Canes fans were disappointed when Gibson and Lawson committed elsewhere. I am sure they both regret their decisions to leave

Dewayne Lawson and Gibson were both recruited higher than Jackson. It seems Deandre Francois is the QB that panned out. I remember when he played youth football for the Orlando Outlaws. He was a running QB, but not much of a passer. They really did a great job of developing him since then at IMG, and then FSU.

CMR will do a great job developing his QBs. Perry, Allison and all the other QB prospects he brings in, will have their best opportunity to develop into a high caliber FBS QB under CMR and his staff

Unlike Goldie, hopefully richt can close the deal on some of these upper eshalon players that we need more than anything else. As The Herb has stated before we need the number of 3 stars we have compared to 4 stars, that needs to be flipped in order for us to really get rolling, this has to happen or at least be even.

Absolutely. I've been saying this for years. If we want to have the teams that FSU has had this decade, the number of four star players HAS to outnumber the three star players.

Now if Richt can pull in the people that posts above are saying...we're 25% of the way there. Richt will need to do this though year after year, which he can and I expect him to do.

Agreed Herb. Bandy is ready to play and if we can get Dean and Henderson, we'll be set. On WRs and speed, we need to get to a point where we have at least 4 Travis Benjamins. Burners. Add that to size recievers and Miami's traditionally fanstastic TEs, and we'll be set. We also need to stack 4s and 5s at RB every cycle.

Ariz: There have been a ton of questions on the deadlines for when guys will enroll, so I'll try to explain it best I can.

Miami begins classes on January 17th.

The final day to register for classes or add a course is January 25th. Meaning, a kid like Jeudy would not have to technically have his papers signed until the 25th, if Miami is his choice. On the other hand, Alabama begins class on the 11th and the last day to register is the 18th. So basically, Jeudy has until January 18th to decide.

I'm not saying that will be the case for him, but I'm just giving an example as to how the enrolling works.

BigWindyCane1

Great recruiting by CMR and his coaches. Jeudy and HARLEY would round out a great WR class if they can pull it off. Kaaya will have more weapons to throw to, and more big plays in the passing game will be possible.

Donaldson is the best OL to come out of Miami-Dade since Eric Flowers, so if the Canes can pick up one or both of the American Heritage OLs, the Canes will have their best OL class in years. CMR will have more OLs that will allow him to run his pro style offense and also help him run the football more consistently. Mark Walton should be very happy. Gus will get some carries And Homer and Gray (two faster RBs) might see some action too

The DBs they have committed are great, but if they pick up a couple more like Henderson, the Canes will have a great class there. More importantly, these recruits can play and most will contribute early and at a high level.

CMR is building the Canes into something great. The Canes will be deeper next season, and will have more experience at every position.

Klay Thomspon is unbelievable. Too bad the NBA just decides whatever they want.

Visit went great yesterday. He'll be on campus with the team & at practice today

CaneRock

I still can't believe Klay Thompson had 60 points in 29 minutes. He dribbled just 11 times and had the ball for a total of 90 seconds. Nuts.

Krazy.

Go Canes!

Btw why does that clown Donny boy all of a sudden appear out of nowhere this time of year and start passing off misinformation and made up crap as fact?

Go Canes!

Good recruiting signs buzzing all over twitter.

Let's hope that translates to some quality gets by this staff.

Don't follow it as closely as some but I think at this point we all know the 4-5 names we're hoping we get, starting with those two massive o-linemen and Jeudy.

Think the sta WR and the running back from up north are already in the bag.

She was very young and had some kind or rare sickness. Not fair at all. I cant even think about it, it just kills me.

TonyCane

That's really big Ohio.

If this happens I hope CMR's faith, perspective and genuine concern has a lot to do with his decision.

That's a very good thing all the way around, not just on the football field.

The thought of that soulless robot Satan faking how much he cares makes me want to puke.

Those local dudes know more than all the recruiting experts combined.

Like our chances.

It's what being said among little league and high school coaches. At least the few I know. But... They are all canes fans so...
