Bottom line - UM had a very high roster churn in 2009, 2010, 2013 and 2016 has played havoc with overall depth. It's really unbelievable how many attrition has taken place in the last ten years.
Speaks to the patience we gotta have.

When the fire CMR posts started hitting 6-7 games into this season I realized patience was officially over.

Dabo certainly knows how to coach basketball. I saw some very good picks the receivers put on those bama d backs....if they pick on most passes what other funny things to they teach the offense?... It showed how important it was to keep Watson at Clemson for his senior year...

16. Miami
2016 record: 9-4, 5-3 ACC
Returning starters: 6 offense, 8 defense, 1 special teams
Key losses: QB Brad Kaaya, RB, Joseph Yearby, WR Stacy Coley, TE David Njoku, G Danny Isidora, CB Corn Elder, FS Rayshawn Jenkins, S Jamal Carter Sr.
Outlook: After winning nine games, including Miami's first bowl victory in a decade, Mark Richt's first season as coach of his alma mater was an undeniable success. Miami's defense under coordinator Manny Diaz was much improved, even with the Hurricanes starting three freshman linebackers. If the Hurricanes are going to improve in Year 2 under Richt, they'll have to find a replacement for quarterback Brad Kaaya. The program's all-time leading passer is leaving early for the NFL draft. Sophomore Malik Rosier, who has thrown 61 passes the past two seasons combined, is the favorite to replace him, but freshmen Jack Allison and Evan Shirreffs might also get looks. The Hurricanes will play three of their most difficult ACC games on the road in 2017 -- at North Carolina, Pitt and Florida State.

Venables has as much, or more to do with Clemson's success since 12'. It's no coincidence that they've been 60-9 since they've hired em' after that 70-33 drubbing to WVU.
Posted by: CaneRock | January 10, 2017 at 10:57 AM
Clemson was -2 in turnovers last night and able to overcome it. Big reason was their dominance through the air - 420yds passing. This goes to show you the importance of making in-game, non-stubborn adjustments. The run wasn't clicking, ditch it and toss it all over the yard. Richt could learn a lot from that coaching clinic.

CR, as much Kaaya bashing as I do, I think most would recognize if Richt didn't spend 4 games going run-run-run punt, we end up with a great season. Worst case: without the worst play calling since Nix, we go 11-3 and probably 12-2 this year (we probably lose to Clemson in ACCCG no matter what). He really did coach us out of a great season.
Posted by: BEERicane | January 10, 2017 at 11:10 AM
^^^My concern about Richt from day 1.
Posted by: CoCane | January 10, 2017 at 11:12 AM
Clemson also hired Chad Morris after that 6-7 season. The Clemson faithful were angry with Dabo then too. But the admin and Dabo checked their egos and got some coaches. Thing is, it takes these coaches years to admit they are the reason they are losing, and go out to get top notch coordinators, some coaches never do it, like AG.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | January 10, 2017 at 11:22 AM
We all see the res flags around the O. We can tell right now Richt needs some help, but he'll just keep going through 2017 with the same problems. People will defend it, new QB excuse, then in 2018 with the same problems, the people who saw the red flags in the begining will be irrate, then they might hire some OC help, of course Diaz will be gone by then and we'll start the cycle over on the defensive side.

See what I'm sayin'...but we gotta be patient...we gotta be oblivious to mediocrity...smh.
Posted by: CaneRock | January 10, 2017 at 11:28 AM
They ran it 42 times out of 99 plays, even though it was rarely effective.
What it did is give Watson the time to overcome a very poor start and wear the hell out of Bama's D. It also slowed the pass rush that was killing them early.
Posted by: Go Canes! | January 10, 2017 at 11:30 AM
Clemson will be average next year. They are losing a lot of players. With the team they had, they should of been dominate every game this year, which they hardly were. If you look at there schedule, there were 5 games where they only won by 7 points or less.....One of those was only a 6 point win against Troy.

You said that about Urban Meyer and OSU last year and they ended up in the playoff.
Clemson is an elite program now thats loaded top to bottom with great talent.
Like Ohio State, they aren't going anywhere.
Posted by: Go Canes! | January 10, 2017 at 11:44 AM
I still think Ohio State is trash....The refs helped them out a lot this season too! When u lose 31-0 in the playoffs, you have no business being in the top 10
Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | January 10, 2017 at 11:47 AM
And yes if we played Ohio State this year there is no doubt we would beat them!

Youre crazy. If we played them right now, either team could win, but OSU would be a heavy favorite.

He really did coach us out of a great season.
Posted by: BEERicane | January 10, 2017 at 11:10 AM
He also coached BK into a spot where we could spend weeks debating to what level of suckage he did (or didn't) meet.
Posted by: 1mg of Epi | January 10, 2017 at 11:50 AM
I dont think OSU would be a heavy favorite at all if we played them today.
Posted by: Go Canes! | January 10, 2017 at 11:55 AM
Coaches are in the trees and have a hard time seeing the forest. For whatever reason (stubborness, loyalty) they wait too long to make the necissary changes. If Richt was just rusty this year, and he really is the goods, then next year we can expect 9 to 10 wins again. But if the truth is that he isnt up to snuff, it could be a 6 to 8 win season. The good news is that the D is back, so all of the pressure is squarely on Richt's O. Any unreasonable failure on the O's part will piss a bunch of people off.

Im glad Clemson won, I wanted them to, but how obvious was the "pick play" pass interference on the game winning TD?
Posted by: UMike | January 10, 2017 at 12:00 PM
This is getting downright funny.
Clemson's offense started out putrid. They couldn't get out of their own way. Couldn't gain a yard rushing and Watson looked so bad even Herbstreet said he looked rattled. Then they catch fire and put up a huge night offensively.
When Clemson does it, it's a coaching clinic. When we do it, it's overcoming Richt's stubbornness and the fact Kaaya sucks.
Come on now.

Posted by: UMike | January 10, 2017 at 12:00 PM
The officiating was really bad. Clemson got away with at least 2 really bad pick plays and a couple of pushing offs. Meanwhile the Tide should have had 3 players ejected for targeting. They missed a bunch both ways I thought. Then they kept reviewing plays that looked like they didnt need to in the 1st place.

Posted by: UMike | January 10, 2017 at 12:00 PM
That's basic sandlot football though UMike. If you have two WR that cross the outside defender should still stay to the outside and the inside defender take the inside WR. That was too easy and should not have happened, but I'm glad it did.
Posted by: THE MAN | January 10, 2017 at 12:12 PM
THE MAN, I hear ya...but we got nailed for it lol...I mean he basically dove at the DB's legs, it wasnt a cross route

What were you watching? There was no dive. The DB basically grabbed him and threw him down thus the no call for a pick....

People. They know who they are.
Posted by: Go Canes! | January 10, 2017 at 12:36 PM
I totally agree Raize.
It looked to me like he was trying to draw a penalty on the offense but the official didn't bite.
Posted by: Go Canes! | January 10, 2017 at 12:37 PM
UMike...I think the 1st one was illegal, as Leggett looked like He extended His forearm to knock the inside defender down. The 2nd one looked legal though. But Saban should've adjusted and played some type of off-man coverage, or putting a bigger defender on Leggett.
Posted by: CaneRock | January 10, 2017 at 12:40 PM
I will have to go back and look, I thought I saw a pick play
Posted by: UMike | January 10, 2017 at 12:44 PM
Looks like you guys are right, I think he was trying to draw a penalty and the Db kinda just let him fall with some help lol
Posted by: UMike | January 10, 2017 at 12:45 PM
And UMike, I agree with you on the 2nd one, He dove.
Posted by: CaneRock | January 10, 2017 at 12:47 PM
I must have missed that, I'll take your guys word on it. Bottom line I thought Bama should have had some players ejected and that didnt happen.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | January 10, 2017 at 12:50 PM
Depends on how you look at it...I saw Coley called for it, the WR went straight at the DB, but the DB did grab him also
Posted by: UMike | January 10, 2017 at 12:53 PM
it could of been called, but maybe wasnt as obvious as I thought
Posted by: UMike | January 10, 2017 at 12:56 PM
UMike...what did Coley get called for, holding? I think the rule is, if the DB tries to release, you gotta let em' go. They called that on Dobard in the 15' Nebraska game...Dobard was just too big for that lil' DB LOL.
Posted by: CaneRock | January 10, 2017 at 12:57 PM
Not sure the game, but Coley was called for it, cant remember if it was holding or offensive PI and it negated a TD
Posted by: UMike | January 10, 2017 at 01:03 PM
Ratings for the championship were down again? Gee I wonder why? ESPN ruins everything.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | January 10, 2017 at 01:09 PM
TD, I think it has something to do with 2 Southern teams playing for the Championship 2 years in a row. Bama & Clemson don't exactly play in big media markets. That's why I think it's imperative that UM & USC get back to the top.
Posted by: CaneRock | January 10, 2017 at 01:16 PM
And that's the thing, has UM & USC ever been at the top at the same time?
