Oooooooo Weeeeee!

And we know what happened at the last minute with McFarland.

Posted by: raizecane | February 02, 2017 at 09:21 AM

I don't think it was a last minute thing. I wouldn't be surprised if that ole "string em' along till a week before NSD" was deliberate. Wouldn't be surprised if that punk @$$ ex gator Durkin put em' up to it.

It is NOT a debate. Thomas beats Harley. Pretty easily actually. Harley is a speedster, but Thomas has ELITE speed.

Posted by: Ohio_Cane | February 01, 2017 at 10:24 PM

Harley has a faster 100M time. But in terms of FB speed I think Thomas edges Harley out. I do think in terms of on the field Thomas is ELITE, you do not compare to #4 unless you are amazing. Thomas does not lose speed with his cuts and that makes him unique. These two will change out offense next year. Walton is a happy guy.

CMR is not the best OC in the country I will give you that but I would say he is top 15 or so. He was RUSTY but we killed the teams we were supposed to in the beginning of the year. our OL really let us down and Kaaya was not playing his best ball in the middle stretch. CMR adapted both in game and the second half of the season. So I think this upcoming year he will be much improvde.

Again, LSU hired from within and kept most of their staff, only upgrading big time at OC with Canada.

He was there a year! Not saying relationships don't matter, just saying that coach was playing some politics with the 4 year comment.

BTW... on the radio this morning Richt was talking about when he knew certain players were coming or not. Seems that there were some signees who weren't leaning Miami as heavily as we thought. Basically sounded like they closed better than we think they closed.

Also... we had a huge EE class, and a number of long time commits. We tend to forget These guys when evaluating how we closed.

Ohio_Cane

Not to mention, Thomas is listed at 5'10, 175 while Harley is at 5'9, 155.

20 lbs on him and it still faster.

Look, I'm not bashing Harley in the least bit. Great player and excellent speed, but he's not Jeff Thomas.

From USA Today:

Miami (Fla.)

It's not as star-studded as the haul reeled in by rival Florida State, the Hurricanes’ first full class signed by Mark Richt easily ranks as the second-best in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Given how Miami closed this past season, adding another 20-plus players will provide the depth and athleticism Richt needs to lead this team to the top of the ACC Coastal Division.

We may find out? Lol

So which Miami wide receiver signee is faster — Mike Harley or Jeff Thomas? Harley says he wants a race. miami.247sports.com/Bolt/WR-Harley

Go Canes!

No one player, coach, hit or miss can go towards defining recruiting and recruiting classes.

Bagmen, girlfriends, best friends, parents, coaches, uniforms, co-eds, want to stay close, want to get away, depth charts, idols and so on all influence an individual recruit.

We have to look at the total body of work and it's 10 caliber with no reaches, projects or question marks with our 24.

Let's roll.

Go Canes!

Top 10

1mg Of epi

It's definitely top10... Clemson w fewer 300 recruits and fewer recruits overall is ranked higher than we are. I believe we have more 300 recruits than anybody not in the top 10.

The clas made us better.

nemo2002

Yes! Hell...we've been producing just as many NFL players as ANYBODY these last 5yrs and we've been down! What do you think is going to happen when we add good coaching to that formula???

Posted by: WWIN | February 01, 2017 at 11:50 PM

WWIN, apparently you are unfamiliar with the concept of DEPTH - something we haven't had a lot of in recent years. And as another poster aptly noted on this site, NFL draftees in the first round are heavily represented by players who were five star recruits in college.
Stop embarrassing yourself. Everyone knows that the teams with the most top talent are the teams most likely to compete at the highest level. Great players make good coaches a lot easier than good coaches make players great. Good coaches with inferior talent can only do so much when competing against teams with superior talent. Like Jimmy Johnson used to say, "you can't teach speed". And as CMR first asked when he arrived at UM, "where are the big guys?"
STARS MATTER. Star DENIERS? Not so much.

Nemo... u forget we've been losing to teams less talented across the whole roster

I dont buy any of the height, weight or 40 stuff until they get on campus, and even then I have my doubts until the combine. So funny to see a 6'5" college QB end up at 6'3" at the combine. Funny how many guys run 4.3 in college, but only 4.5 at the combine.

Ohio_Cane

Thomas' 4.3 was laser timed at The Opening. Just like the Combine. College and HS coaches usually hand time, which can be off

And apparently you were in a coma in 2014. Let me get you up to speed...we went 6-7 with 7 NFL draft picks, including 2 first rounders.

I agree that it's hard to win "big" without talent, but you can also lose with talent, that's coaching.

It ain't 1985 anymore. U can't just count on your players being faster and stronger. Forget about the fact that talented players don't just go to a handful of schools anymore. The good strategic coaches can create matchup advantages. Does anybody think UVA ever had more talent than UM... or VT... or.. or ... or

Anybody who discounts the value of coaching should take a look at the 2016 cane D vs 2015 cane D

Touché!!!! Well said! Literally the same players and different results.

AfriCane

Oh my bad! We lost two blue choppers in AQM & Grace.

^^^ exactly

Go Canes!

It all matters.

Coaching, players, scheme, injuries, grades and facilities.

Look at the recruiting rankings I posted earlier. We've underachieved but there are programs who for years have it all and haven't done shi*t.

This is the best combination of everything above we've had in forever.

Stop embarrassing and read the facts! Talking about depth...how many players do you actually think are used in each game??? I'm sure you think 85 right? 😂😂😂

Look at our recruiting classes this past 5yrs...worse than what we are doing now and look at how my NFL players came from it...and you mean to tell me that we have to finish in the top 3 in recruiting to compete again??? If we get two more classes like the past two we just got we'll be where we supposed to be! WITHOUT A #1 RANKED CLASS!

86Cane

How many transfers do you guys expect between now and Spring? Fall?

Go Canes!

nemo2002

Here is a simple question for the "star naysayers" (and anyone else who wants to render an informed opinion):

Would you rather have a top 5 recruiting class or a top 15 recruiting class (and why)?

86Cane

NEW BLOG IS UP!

Terrance Sullivan

Give me consistent Top 15 classes with limited early departures to NFL, limited transfers. And we winning titles. What you don't want is falling back into top 40 classes or having top 15-20 classes but losing a gang of the classes to transfers, non qualifiers, etc. Basically what has happened to us over last decade.
