Davon Reed scored 18 points, Bruce Brown added 17 and Ja'Quan Newton chipped in 14 as Miami blew out reeling Pittsburgh 72-46 on Saturday.
The Hurricanes (12-4, 2-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) snapped a two-game losing streak by smothering the Panthers. The Hurricanes outrebounded Pitt 37-23 and held Pitt (12-6, 1-4) to just 34 percent shooting (18 of 53).
Jamel Artis led Pitt with 15 points a game after going for a career-high 43 in a loss to Louisville on Wednesday. Chris Jones scored 10 points for the Panthers, who have dropped three straight.
Pitt played without forward Ryan Luther, who sat out with an injured right foot. Senior forward Michael Young played with a mask on his face to protect his right eye. Young missed all 10 of his field goal attempts, his two points coming on a pair of free throws early in the second half.
Miami used a 14-0 run spanning the end of the first half and the beginning of the second to turn a competitive game into a blowout. The Panthers went 9:37 between field goals as Miami's advantage ballooned from 29-27 to 46-31.
The Hurricanes never came close to giving it up. After some early issues taking care of the ball, Miami effectively picked the Panthers apart defensively. The Hurricanes outscored Pitt 34-20 in the paint and converted Panther turnovers into 19 points at the other end of the floor.
With the win over Pittsburgh, Coach L earned his 600th career victory, posting a 600-395 mark in 33 seasons as a head coach. With 600 wins, he is one of five ACC coaches with 600 victories, and the other four men are in the Basketball Hall of Fame. Coach L has won 27 games at American International, 170 at Bowling Green, 273 at George Mason and 130 at Miami.

Every year, especially it seems in South Florida, it feels like some kids are starting to get an over abundance sense of entitlement.
I think an early signing period will greatly reduce that. If the school like Miami can lock up 15 to 20 kids in December, it's a lot easier to tell recruits to decide because we only have a few spots left.
It would hopefully cut down on a lot of the game playing.

RE: Early signing period
Nothing has been decided yet, but it might happen this year:
"CCA (Collegiate Commissioners Association) is expected to get together again in early summer, when many commissioners expect a vote to take place."
The proposal itself:
"Most of the attention has been focused on new 72-hour signing windows that would open on the last Wednesday in June and the third Wednesday in December. The mid-December signing window is familiar, largely because it's currently when midyear junior college recruits sign their national letters of intent. (...)
To coincide with the two new early signing periods, the NCAA said it would be willing to adjust the recruiting calendar to allow prospects to take official visits during the summer before their senior years. Recruits would be allowed to take official visits starting June 1 until the last Saturday before the June signing period begins. They would also be allowed to take visits July 25-31."
http://www.espn.com/college-football/recruiting/story/_/id/18475010/what-need-know-impending-recruiting-reforms
It is expected that the December proposal will pass, and June will fall through (Coaches are against it).

If you're a WR recruit, and you don't like the prospect of Perry throwing you the ball...point blank...quite frankly...you're stupid.
Perry can make every throw...everybody's gonna be open with Him at QB.

I have a saying I have used for years with my different teams; "What you say here, what you do here, what you see here, let it stay here when you leave here".
I guess Antonio Brown never heard it. He is a very gifted player; use better judgment young man. The Internet...and this blog are the closest I am to social media. I know them; Facebook, Twitter, My Space, etc.....I have never been on any of them and would never put pictures clips tweets etc out there; just not me I am private with my life. Coaching already gives plenty of exposure and accountability so I need no more places to speak, answer questions, embarrass someone, or make a fool of myself.
I know Coach Tomlin; he is from Newport News and went to William and Mary, my Dads college. I am fond of him; I like the way he does business. He is a great coach and person. My father was one of several Alums who spoke to him about the college. He liked my Dad quite well and I have stayed in touch over the years. I know he was not pleased with the AB act; he is a pretty serious guy!
Soc Med is fine for some people and I respect that. I think you have to think about it; I guess we all, including myself must remember the saying think before you hit send. I am sure we have all been there; I know I have forgot more than once.
I has an interesting meeting over the weekend; a great mentor of mine, who was a Sr star tailback when I was in 8th grade coaches at Indian River HS. He followed my HS/college/coaching careers and we have been close for 44 years. He coaches Devon Hunter who is quite a safety. I meet the young man over weekend; very fine young man. His highlights are impressive.....he is a hitter and can hawk the ball. Everybody in the East that matters has offered; I got the feeling that VT is the insider for him. We offered him, sure wish we could get him. I enjoyed meeting him.
Hope we get a few guys. The kid from St Louis would be nice; does anybody think we land Smith? I thought I read that earlier.
Nice blogging on here!

CR I like him thee best of all the QBs we have; he has a good arm....when have we ever had anybody that elusive? KD11, bless his heart, was a slewfoot. Morris, Kirby, Kyle, J12, Morris, Kayaa......nice kids but could not avoid trouble.
Perry is quick, has a nice arm, needs some weight, but that will come.....I like him a lot and hope he gets a shot. We need a QB for sure....and we have a lot to pick from; Allison, Rosier, Perry, Vinnie Jr, Weldon, Shirreffs.....6 QBs....someone has to step up quick....and some will have to go....cannot have 6 QBs!

Ivins from 247:
I just wanted to pass along that I caught wind that Winter Park three-star wide receiver Jordan Pouncey is filming his commitment video today in downtown Orlando. Obviously he could be picking any school that he wants in this video, but I find it pretty interesting that he's doing this after this past weekend's official visit to Miami and Mark Richt's in-home visit with the family last Thursday. Pouncey will travel to Tennessee on Friday. Ron Dugans is expected to come by sometime this week. The video is set to be released on Feb. 1.

Go Canes...it's the hollowing out process in the SEC. If you are a Top 300 recruit, what are your reasons for going to any SEC school other than Alabama? You're seeing the loss of hope. If you are Top 300, either go to an elite school outside of the conference where you have any easier path to the NC game or go to Alabama. You are wasting your time at an Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, LSU, or Georgia.

Need more kids like Trajan Bandy. To think, Golden wouldn't offer him unless he grew an inch lol
Miami Columbus four-star cornerback and Miami commit Trajan Bandy isn't one that wants much attention at this stage in the recruiting process.
In fact if it was up to him, he says that he would rather not host Mark Richt for an in-home visit in the coming weeks so that the Hurricanes head coach could instead use his time to recruit some of the program's other top targets on the board that aren't already sold on Miami.
"I'm just trying to help the coaches any way that I can," Bandy said on Monday.
"I think Coach Richt knows that I'm signing that letter of intent and that I'm not playing around with this. I'm not going to jump for some other ship or anything like that. I'm going to UM and he knows that, so I would rather him get out there and see some of the other guys that aren't maybe as comfortable as I am with Miami."

CoCane's season breakdown
Coaching:
Defensively, we saw improvements at every level. DL, LB and DB all balled out. The scheme complimented the personel perfectly. The defensive staff led by Diaz were top shelf. Development, adjustments and creativity were on full display. Due to inexperience and a lack of overall depth kept this unit from dominating at a championship level. Overall major strides were made.
Grade: A-
Special teams was good not great. K needs to be a notch more accurate. P was excellent. Return men were solid but not elite at breaking big runs. Not a lot of giveaways or takeaways.
Grade: B+
Offensively, this unit was hit or miss. OL play was the weakness. Richt stubbornly forcing the run too much was also flaw that helped lead to losses. It's never good when a OL is shakey and the QB isn't mobile. When the pocket was clean and the field was spread. Getting the ball out of Kaaya's hands quick allowed the athletes to make plays. The offense would perform at it's best when the pass set up the run. If Richt wants to continue calling plays, he better learn to use what he has and adjust quicker in game. The ultimate prize depends on it. The offense was too inconsistant to win the big games.
Grade: B-
Overall:
9-4. Bowl win. Top 20 final ranking. Not bad. Unfortunately it's been the best season around these parts in a decade. Considering that, it was a good season. Cane fans will take it. FOR NOW.
Grade: B

RIP Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka...the greatest high flyer I ever saw!!!!
