NEW BLOG IS UP!

Go Canes!

Btw is it just me or is the hype surrounding Perry starting to turn him into something a little bit larger than life?

Got no problem with pressure or comparisons but in the last two days I've seen it written where he's the next deshaun Watson or Lamar Jackson.

Let him throw a college pass first and truth be told I'd be very happy with him having a year like Francois had for now.

Go Canes!

I'm up.

11:30 to 5:30. I'll take it.

TonyCane Yesssss this is glorious to see. Thanks for posting this Brother Nero. It is time that we make our ACC Coastal Opponents Obsolete and Delete, Delete, Delete, Yesssss.

Miami Hurricanes total number of four and five star players annually:

2006: 46 (7-6)
2007: 42 (5-7)
2008: 42 (7-6)
2009: 41 (9-3)
2010: 39 (7-6)
2011: 28 (6-6)
2012: 21 (7-5)
2013: 22 (9-3)
2014: 25 (6-7)
2015: 28 (8-5)
2016: 27 (9-4)
2017: 31

On paper this will be the strongest team overall this decade, and for the first time since 2010 we will have more than thirty players on the roster with four and five stars. Furthermore, at the moment I believe that only five players ranked at four or five stars would automatically depart after next season (Gerald Willis, Braxton Berrios, KC McDermott, Trevor Darling, and Braxton Berrios). An additional nine would depart after the 2018 season.

If Richt can have recruiting classes as strong or stronger in 2018 and 2019, very quickly we are looking at a team that is now on par with Florida State and keeping pace with Clemson, meanwhile further building on the gap with the rest of the Coastal. The numbers are now in our favor - the inverse of the situation that we faced in 2011 and 2012. Wonderful to see.

The Dude - Sorry to hear that. My daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (old term is Juvenile Diabetes) when she was 12. It's incredibly tough having a child with an incurable condition who could have a medical emergency at any time. I cannot even imagine that with a 1 year old. Thoughts & prayers to U and your baby.

DallasTX Cane

Hey CGNC! I'm still around. I just read these days. I don't stay as informed as I used to, so don't comment much. Love the direction we seem to be heading in tho. There's been a few speed bumps but I think any fan that thought all the bad of the last decade could be overcome in one off-season was delusional. I'm excited that the season ended on a high. By coincidence I was in Orlando during the bowl game, so I got to see our CANES put on one hell of a show! Now it's time to take the next step and actually win a division and conference title!

Good post from CIS:

Positive sign about the 2017 class in retrospect

I was curious to see where the kids that Richt and Co. cooled on during the process ended up. What I found was that it seems he and the staff had a pretty good eye for who not to keep if where they ended up signing is any evidence. We all saw Golden signing his last minute specials like James King (former FAU commit) and Terrence Henley (Not sure if he even had offers). I think this is a pretty good sign moving forward regarding the staff's talent evaluation. Hopefully is proves to limit the amount of JAG's we have in the future.

Rodney Scott: Buffalo
Billy Gibson: Oregon (This was a product of a non-P5 coach moving to a P5 program and having to scramble together a class)
Kevaughn Dingle: USF
Nick Roberts: USF
Tyler Dunning: Miss St.
Bentavious Thompson: UCF
Ahman Ross: FAU

The 2 exceptions I identified -
Aundre Kearney: Virginia Tech (I can''t remember if richt dropped him or if he just decommitted when/before Golden left)
Kemore Gamble: Florida

Enough with that Arkansas St. nonsense.

The Clinton's road to Washington started there, so somebody's going to come up with the idea to build a wall around that state anyway.

... and recruiting gone wrong:

Looking back at ACC's 2013 signing class

With the 2017 national signing day upon us, we figured it was a good time to travel back five years to see what became of some of the ACC’s top recruits of 2013.
(..)

Derrick Griffin, Miami

2013: The No. 33 overall recruit, Griffin had the makings of a star receiver, choosing Miami after a host of SEC schools. Eligibility issues meant he never played for the Hurricanes.

2017: Griffin finally landed at Texas Southern in 2015 as a two-sport star, playing basketball as well. He was dismissed from the football team there in 2016, however, and left the hoops team last month to prepare for the NFL draft.

Stacy Coley, Miami

2013: Coley was one of the top receivers to sign in 2013, and he quickly transitioned into a star at Miami, racking up 1,461 all-purpose yards and 10 touchdowns.

2017: The hot start didn’t translate to much consistency for Coley, who endured an up-and-down career. He still finished with 166 career catches and has a future playing Sundays.

Al-Quadin Muhammad, Miami

2013: The No. 58 player in the class, Muhammad played a reserve role early on, recording two sacks before blossoming into a star edge rusher two years later.

2017: Off-field problems forced Muhammad’s dismissal — along with No. 138 recruit Jermaine Grace — before the 2016 season. Still, his talent could earn him a look in the NFL this year

Others of note: Miami CB Artie Burns (No. 70 was a first-round pick by the Steelers), (...) Miami QB Kevin Olsen (No. 87, dismissed from Hurricanes, now with UNC-Charlotte) (...)

Recruiting the way it should be:

Unheralded recruits in class of 2016 had big roles, too

Georgia Tech B-back Dedrick Mills got none of the headlines on national signing day a year ago. Neither did Miami linebacker Michael Pinckney nor Syracuse defensive end Kendall Coleman, for that matter.

But all three proved to be valuable starters as freshmen. All three earned three-star designations as high school prospects but showed with hard work and an opportunity to fit an immediate need that they could make a major impact.
(...)
Miami LB Michael Pinckney, three stars, No. 20 ILB in the country: Pinckney emerged as a starter alongside ESPN 300 freshman linebackers Quarterman and McCloud, finishing fifth on the team with 51 tackles.

A-State Wins AutoNation Cure Bowl to Cap 2016 Season

ORLANDO, Fla. (12/17/16) – Senior wide receiver Kendall Sanders was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2016 AutoNation Cure Bowl after three touchdown receptions helped Arkansas State football cap the season with a 31-13 win over UCF Saturday at Camping World Stadium.

Arkansas State (8-5) forced three turnovers, blocked a punt for a touchdown and held UCF (6-7) to 223 yards of offense. The Red Wolves defense totaled six sacks and 11 tackles for loss in the outing, capping the last two outings with 14 sacks and 34 tackles for loss.

Making a sixth-straight bowl appearance, Arkansas State finishes the season, the sixth consecutive winning season for the first time since 1912-17. Arkansas State is home to the only FBS program to win five conference championships in the last six seasons.

86Cane

U better NOT get caught napping...

The entire class features 21 players named all-state, all-conference, All-American or rated as at least a 3-star prospect by one of the major recruiting web sites. The most signees came from the states of Alabama, Kansas and Mississippi as four players from each one inked with the Red Wolves. The class also includes three players from both Arkansas and Georgia, two from both Louisiana and Oklahoma and one from Arizona, California, Iowa, New York and Texas.

A-State collected its second consecutive Sun Belt Conference championship in 2016 and is the only FBS program in the nation to win five league titles over the last six seasons. Dating back to 2011, the 2016 Cure Bowl champions have made a school-record six straight bowl-game appearances and also piled up 52 victories over that span, which is tied for the 23rd most in the nation.

Centennial Bank Stadium
Arkansas State’s first game at Centennial Bank Stadium was played Sept. 28, 1974. The stadium, which now seats 30,406, has undergone several renovations since then and more are on the horizon.

A-State originally transitioned from a grass field to an artificial playing surface prior to the 2006 season and upgraded to a state-of-the-art GEO Surfaces field turf in 2010. Like the original field turf installed nine years ago, the new Geo-Surfaces product still features a large A-State logo in the center of the field and red end zones with large white "ARKANSAS STATE" lettering.

However, the new product has an enhanced look with the addition of two Red Wolves logos, two Sun Belt Conference logos and a black trim that outlines the field. The Red Wolves and Sun Belt Conference logos are located on each 25-yard line. The multi-use surface provides year-round training opportunities for other A-State sports in addition to the school’s football program.

A three-story football complex was built in the stadium’s south end zone in 2002, which followed a stadium expansion in 1991 that raised the seating from 16,343 to 30,406.

Centennial Bank Stadium features a multi-level press box, which houses media areas, coaching booths, broadcasting locations, a video control booth, camera areas, suites, a club area and more.

Thanks to a $5 million gift – the largest individual donation in A-State Athletics history – by alumnus Johnny Allison, a “Centennial Expansion” construction and renovation project to the stadium’s press box and west-side concourse took place during this last offseason.
