The University of Miami women’s track and field team went to the 2017 ACC Indoor Championships and left as champions for the second straight year.
After winning a year ago by just one point, the Hurricanes defended their 2016 ACC indoor championship in dominant fashion. Miami defeated Clemson by 15 points, scoring 113 points to secure its fourth ACC indoor women's team championship in program history.
“It was awesome,” UM director of track and field Amy Deem said. “They came in with a purpose and a focus. I kept waiting for the bubble to kind of burst – not that I didn’t have confidence in what we could do, but we were just kind of hitting on all cylinders. I am so pleased with the way they handled themselves and their composure and determination to repeat as ACC champions.”
The Canes eclipsed 100 points for the first time since scoring 117 in their 2006 ACC title performance. Miami also won back-to-back ACC indoor championships for the second time in program history, joining the 2005-06 consecutive team titles. With the victory, Deem is the active leader in ACC women’s indoor team titles with four.
“I’m just excited for the team,” Deem said. “I don’t really think about stuff like that, but it’s awesome. I hope it’s an inspiration for the young females out there. It’s tough to be a coach, whether you’re a man or a woman, but hopefully it gives inspiration to women that want to be head coaches.”
Shakima Wimbley made history on Saturday, becoming the first woman in ACC history to win four titles in a single event. The superstar senior, who was named ACC Women’s Track MVP for the second straight year, won her fourth consecutive indoor 200m title with a personal-best time of 22.83 seconds that set an ACC Championship record and ranks third in UM history.
“I’m grateful,” Wimbley said. “I put in a lot of hard work. I trusted in myself and in my training. I trained hard and I went for it. I just keep it simple. I go through my steps, set my blocks, talk about my race plan, mentally and physically prepare and I just go out and do what I can. I don’t really get pressured too easily. I just go out and do what I need to do.”
I feel like the last decade, the Miami program has been in the Upside Down..."a dimension that is a dark reflection, or echo, of our world. It is a place of decay and death, a plane out of phase, a place of monsters. It is right next to you and you do not even see it."
And finally, CM Richt has donned that yellow hazmat suit, entered the Upside Down, and brought the Canes back into normal reality.

Would think Testaverde is a lifer happy to get the ride, wonder if Sherrrifs is too.
Imo the real question is what's going to happen with Rosier or Allison or maybe both if they get beat out.

Otherwise we'll stumble in a game imo...

2018 WR Kevin Austin talks Canes
2018 North Broward Prep WR Kevin Austin's stock has continued to rise since the end of the football season. His latest accolade is being invite to compete at the Nike Opening finals in Oregon.
“It’s such an honor,” Austin said. “Being one of the 12 guys selected out of so many guys that were here is amazing.”
Austin has been one of the more intriguing prospect this cycle, with school like Ohio St, Miami and Florida after him. While he isn’t ready to make a decision, he does have a top list of schools and there’s one aspect that all of these schools have — Academics
“Duke, Kentucky, Miami, UF, Notre Dame and Ohio St.
“Academics is a huge factor in my recruitment.”
Miami is the hometown team, but there’s one main factor besides academics that’s keeping Miami in the race — Wide Receiver Coach Ron Dugans
“I love Dugans, he’s a great coach, he’s a very spiritual guy, he’s always on his players and he’s always trying to get the best out of them,” Austin said.
“Coach Dugans is a big factor in my recruitment, I just love his attitude and the way he coaches.”
Miami has dominated on the recruiting trail in this cycle, and Austin credits one particular individual on the Miami staff — Head Coach Mark Richt.
“Miami is doing a great job on the recruiting trail, they’re bringing in a lot of local guys and guys from the Orlando area,” Austin said. “It’s a testament to Mark Richt and the way guys connect with him so well.”
Besides Miami, Duke and Notre Dame are two schools that are sticking out for the highly.
“Rich history there,” Austin said. “I like Coach Denson their running back coach -- he’s been talking to me everyday."
“The coaching staff, the facilities are beautiful and the main reason is academics,” Austin said. “Academics is a huge reason why i’m considering Duke, it’s not known for football but they’re on the rise.”
Now that Austin has a top six, when is he going to make his announcement.
“I’m most likely going to make a decision after all of my visit this summer or after my football season,” Austin said.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. First we have to find a way to beat FSU. (No easy task!) Indead we may have to beat the Noles twice in the same season in order to get into the NC playoff.

I second your notion. Simply because Miami, Florida still has MAJOR issues at QB and offensive line. And those two positions are critical for a possible NC run. huh.
Also, Miami, Florida's ' weak ' overall schedule could hurt them in the long run. Because contender teams from the SEC and Big Ten probably will have an overall difficult schedule.
For instance, Miami, Florida needs two or three of those teams on their schedule to have above .500 winning seasons. Which would help Miami, Florida's SOS. huh.
Nevertheless, if the new starting QB ' matures ' football wise in a NYC minute, and the offensive line performs BEYOND the CALL of DUTY. Then Miami, Florid could be on of ' five ' teams contending for those cherished ' four ' playoff spots. duh.

As long as the ' second coming ' of skinny hoe handle hips Perry, and Allison, and the new kid on Thee Gables boulevard, Sitkowski, don't transfer. Then I don't care who transfers. Because those three kids are Miami, Florida's best signal caller options. No ifs, buts or huh.
2018
True freshmen Sitkowski
RS-sophomore Allison
Sophomore Perry
Then the rest of the field- fill in the returning QB's. huh.

RE: The Canes ' 17 schedule.
Miami needs Notre Dame to return to form ( Winning season. ). And three or four of the following teams to have final regular season records above . 500.
Arkansas St., Toledo, Duke, Pittsburg and Syracuse.
Because FSU, VA Tech, Carolina Blue, and GA Tech will probably have winning records again next season. duh.

K.C. Joyner of ESPN: Every team starts the year undefeated, but only a handful have a legitimate chance of winning the College Football Playoff.
After a long dry spell, Miami may be returning to that group of teams that can contend for the national championship. The Hurricanes finished 2016 with five straight wins, the first Miami team to do so since 2001, and notched their first bowl win since 2006.
It might seem difficult for the Hurricanes to keep that momentum going since quarterback Brad Kaaya declared for the 2017 NFL draft, but Miami is trending upward in a variety of ways that should allow it to more than offset that loss.
Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | March 01, 2017 at 08:31 PM
Per K.C. Joyner: The Hurricanes’ 2017 schedule includes contests against Duke, Notre Dame, Syracuse and Virginia, four teams that posted a combined 14-34 record last season. Add games against non-Power 5 foes (Bethune-Cookman, Arkansas State and Toledo), and more than half of Miami’s games will be against subpar teams.
Miami does have a tough road matchup at Florida State, a team it hasn’t defeated since 2009, but the rest of its ACC opponents posted a combined 20-12 conference mark last season. Add it up, and this is definitely the type of schedule that lends itself to potential national title contention.
The Hurricanes have everything in place to post a double-digit win total for the first time since 2003. The jump from there to the College Football Playoff will likely require an ACC championship game win over either Clemson or Florida State, but given the talent level Miami brings to the table this year, that should be considered an attainable goal for this legitimate national title contender.
