Estela Perez-Somarriba of the University of Miami women's tennis team was officially announced Thursday as an ITA All-American in singles. A First Team All-ACC selection, Perez-Somarriba becomes the eighth freshman ITA All-American in program history, including the seventh in singles.
“Earning All-American status is a prestigious honor and very difficult to do whether you're a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior,” Miami head coachPaige Yaroshuk-Tews said. “To be able to get that type of accolade your freshman year just shows a lot about the type of person and athlete that we have in Estela. We're obviously very proud of her, we think she deserves it and we're excited for the future of what is to come.”
A native of Madrid, Perez-Somarriba is the second Hurricane freshman to garner ITA All-America distinction in the past three seasons, joining Sinead Lohan in 2014-15. Overall, this is the ninth such honor for a Miami freshman, as Ronni Reis earned the accolade in both singles and doubles in 1984-85.
Perez-Somarriba is the 28th Hurricane to receive the illustrious accolade, including the 15th with Yaroshuk-Tews at the helm, all coming in the past 14 seasons. This marks the 64th total ITA All-America award for a Miami player, including the 33rd under Yaroshuk-Tews.
The Hurricanes have totaled eight ITA All-America honors in the past four years, including six in singles. Miami has had at least one player earn the recognition in 13 of the last 14 seasons.
Perez-Somarriba tallied a team-best 34-7 singles mark in her opening campaign at Miami, finishing the season ranked No. 26 in the country, sixth-best among freshmen. In the spring, she notched a 27-4 overall record, including going 20-3 in dual matches, 12-2 in ACC play and 12-2 against ranked players.
The first freshman in program history to reach the Final Four of the NCAA Singles Championship, Perez-Somarriba went 15-0 over 16 matches in a 58-day stretch, losing only four total sets and defeating nine ranked opponents, before falling in three sets in the NCAA semifinals.
Perez-Somarriba was among a select group of just 11 freshmen in the nation to garner ITA All-America status, including one of only seven to do so in singles.
Go canes!

Some Longhorn friends out here were crowing about some of UT's recent signings. They are up to Number Four in 247's ranking for the 2018 class.
I gently reminded them that Miami remains #1.

The way the rich & powerful keep us all divided is hysterical. Fox News = Republican State media, MSNBC = Democrat State media, CNN = Establishment State media. Flint has lead in its water still. Still have boys dying overseas. Still outsourcing jobs to 3rd world. Still f*cking up the Earth. Still have people in bankruptcy over medical bills. Still let employers hire undocumented immigrants. Still havent fixed too big to fail... huh, it almost doesnt matter if its a Dem or a Rep... its kind of like the whole thing doesnt work for the working class majority of Ammerica.
When in the course of human events...

The real, ongoing crisis in America is this:
https://twitter.com/frankluntz/status/873001927641939968
The day the media in this county's cannot be trusted to uncover and report news without bias, we are in big, big trouble.
My hope is this most recent disaster, coupled with the catastrophic hit they took with Hilary Clinton last year will force the powers that be to strive for balance.
But I'm not confident it's going to happen.

Americans under 30-40 don't realize just about everything that's funny for their generation grew out of something relating to Seinfeld.
It's like a young kid laughing at how crude the effects were in Star Wars.

How many games do we win if Perry or whoever starts is as good as Kirby Freeman? How many games do we win if they are as good as Stephen Morris?

Seinfeld is just 4 really annoying a-holes that are irritateted about everything they see, repeating phrases back to eachother. It had its moments when it was pretty funny, but like every list I see rating funniest sitcoms has them number one. It isnt the funniest sitcom ever, although it is funny. Community is way more inventive and daring I think.

With regards to The NY Times, how anyone came to this conclusion after watching the hearings yesterday is baffling. It's like a petulant child's tantrum after Comey said their original Russia story was completely false.

SOUP,
I'm quite disappointed in both you, GoCanes, Epi and everyone else spewing this sh*t... I mean seriously guys. Once again, why is there a need to discuss political views here?!?!?!
I get it, sh*t is going down in America and none of us probably really know what's truly happening, but to stoop so low to offend others on the blog. Is this what you really created this for???
Honestly, I started following this blog daily since 2009 to escape the world sh*tting on me because I'm a 'Canes fan. Something we have all experienced. I appreciate a good argument or heated banter about football, but this...
this political bullsh*t has gotten OUT OF CONTROL! Really? I'm hopping on to see 'Canes fans bash other 'Canes fans because they have different views. He/she believes this or believes that and backs up their argument using different media outlets (which is all you did). Guess what... every single one of them is bias!!!
This is ridiculous. Seriously. I'm done. Anyone speaking on politics (not news stories... but political views) needs to reevaluate why you hop on website like this every day. I'd rather take sh*t from a 'Nole fan than listen to two 'Canes fans bash each other over personal views on this blog!
Just remember, it's supposed to be "ALL ABOUT THE U"
...but it seems like you already forgot!
Peace out & Go 'Canes!
