I love Coach L. This will be a great pre-conference game to show where the Canes are early in the season. Minnesota is a very good and well-coached team. It will be a great test. Coach L is over at the UM Field House running his summer camp for kids and also recruiting right now. Coach L is always the teacher and developer of talent. The Canes are always a legitimate threat to win the ACC championship

My 3 year old daughter has a vivid memory of people dressed in black standing in our house at night. I showed her a picture of people in ski masks and she said thats them. I cant help but feel a little freaked out about all this.

Go Canes!

Most #ESPN300 commits June 27: #OhioState & #Miami 13, #LSU 10, #Texas 9, #Oregon & #PennState 8, #Tennessee #Gigem & #Clemson 7.

#ESPN300 tote board June 27: #SEC 47, #B1G 36, #ACC 34, #Pac12 23 & #Big12 20. Top 5 classes: 1.#OhioState 2.#Miami 3.#LSU 4.#Texas 5.#PSU

Ohio_Cane

LOL, we have more than 1/3 of the ACC commits in the ESPN300

Go Canes!

Now all we have to do is win.

My personal opinion is a bias towards SFLA ballers vs kids from other areas. There are good players all over the country but year by year the sfla kids perform better and often out perform their rankings. With that said I feel that regardless of the recruiting rankings say I feel the kids Miami is bringing in now will out perform Ohio St's class. We are upgrading out talent in a big way. In 2 years we will be Alabama, getting anyone we want.

Here's the early season back and forth I can hear already. Richt sucks, he's not creative vs. Richt isnt showing his hand before FSU. My hunch is that Richt just isnt up to the job as OC, we will see.

This is the thought that keeps me up at night.

Depth and experience be damned, we have the talent to have a top 3 offense in the ACC.

We need some really good oc work. Pure and simple.

I don't expect to be the 2014 Oregon Ducks, but offensive struggles are unacceptable, even against FSU.

Those clowns have been ripe for a beatdown for years. Coaching is what has let us down in the series. We have had them on the edge of blowouts and let them off the hook with coaching blunders.

We have Miami talent. Get Miami coaching and you see quick turnarounds regardless of the stars the guys on hand had as recruits. We are making the same excuses for the o to struggle that we were gonna make for the d in 2016.

But a funny thing happened. We got a real defensive coordinator and the rest is history.

Richt had the opportunity to hire a Manny Diaz for the offense. He chose to gamble on his rusty
Playcalling.

Richt owns the performance of the O, no excuses. Get the ball to our speed guys and ATTACK THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD, we go to the ACC championship UNDEFEATED.

This is what a dark horse national title team looks like. We just need really good to great coaching and gameplannig.

TruCane81

If the secondary grows up fast, we can make a run like the 2000 sooners (the team that snuck in for what should have been our fifth title).

TruCane81

Anybody know if Maurice Sykes played receiver for Monsignor Pace?

Maybe. I hope that we keep expectations grounded this season for the following reasons:

1) We have a freshmen quarterback that may be starting. There will be growing pains

2) Our talent overall is better than last year and is the best in a decade, but it is not at a 2004 level yet and not equivalent to FSU. We can beat virtually everyone else though, at least on paper.

3) Depth is a concern - we are probably still not quite to a healthy level. That might take one more class

4) The Class of 2018 is a future gain. I think we lose sight of that in the excitement of getting these verbal committments now. But their on the field contribution will not be trickling in for another year, and it will be two years before we see a full impact.

So again, going back to point #1. With good quarterback play we are a dangerous team and one that might win the ACC. But if Perry and the other QBs struggle, we could see our team repeat at 8 wins despite being markedly better, deeper, and more talented everywhere else.

CoCane

FSU doesn't have a trio like Walton, Richards and Herndon. Losing or winning to them won't have anything to do with a talent gap...

Go Canes!

Wouldn't be surprised if Richards had a noticeable dropoff this season.

BigWindyCane1

10 or more wins and a coastal division championship is the floor for expectations this season. Anything less will be a disappointment.

I think CMR would agree with this statement on expectations. The Canes are talented enough to have a very special season

We can get 35-40 a game with the zone read and easy passe for the qb.

We NEED more short passing on first down.

Easy reads, easy throws. None of this 5 step drop with no protection nonsense.

Let whoever emerges no. 1 get some confidence with Herndon as the primary on some quick throws.

Let Richards catch a couple drags and crosses and see if the decense can tackle him. The freshman can house plays on screens and pitches.

We got this.

We just cant have a repeat of the losing streak playcalling.

TruCane81

Richards is a stud.

A really special guy that seems to have a little more toughness and focus, but less versatility than freshman Coley.

Coley was fast, but Richards is on another level physically.

If he is doubled, we will run near 300 a game.

Richt will not mind.

Teams will have to pick their poison if we just use the entire field and mix up the rhythm of playcalling.

We have the athleticism to run those bootlegs Richt loves. They will get us big gains every week now that cement shoes went pro.

VfB_Cane

Horrible year fpr Hurricane baseball fans: 44-year postseason streak ends, FSU at 40 most likely to own that record in 4 years, and now the f***ing Gaturds win their first CWS title.

I wish the football season was right around the corner ... seeing guys in Hurricane jerseys slam somebody to the ground would do wonders to get that bad smell out of my mouth.

I agree. The Canes have more playmakers this year. Richards is a special receiver and Kaaya didn't throw to him enough. After watching the first two games, it was apparent that Richards was really the #1 receiver. It took Kaaya a few more games to realize or accept the fact that Richards can change the game. Now with the other WRs on the roster, the Canes have a mobile QB, an elite RB, a complete TE, and several other playmakers who can run the simple read option, RPO, triple option, etc., that isn't complicated, but can lead to very explosive plays.

Go Canes!

I don't agree Kaaya didn't throw to Richards enough early. He had a noticeable case of the drops that affected his overall production and imo confidence.

Once he got past that he really blew up.

I am shocked.

TruCane81...I just hope Richt doesn't take whole halves to figure out what the D is doing, particularly the UNC,VT, & ND games.

I don't doubt He goes into a game without a good gameplan, but 4-Verts vs max blitz vs VT was akin to throwing a halfback pass in a snowstorm over & over & over again.

Haskins to WVU.

Yes we are going to be good but we still have a few depth concerns, that will of course be taken care of next year but this is this year and the depth of talent at Cb will be a concern, TE and Rb, has a few issues. Comparing to FSU, we are still not there, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Yes we will have a very good defense but Depth of over-all talent is not there yet.
We probably should have beaten FSU the3 of the last 4 times we've played them but we didn't play to win we played not to lose.
ever since Brian Monroe bobbled the extra point snap some years back we have been snake bitten against these guys.
If Miami had the power pitching Florida had maybe they'll win another ship, when's the last time we had one or 2?

WVU lost to us, now they're taking our rejects. We back.

Sadly, if NCAA doesn't loosen scholarship $ and rules on baseball, I'm afraid the good old days will be the good old days.

Only get 11.7 scholarships (full time equivalents) that you can spread around up to 27 guys.

If you get a 1/2 scholarship offer from Morris, which is pretty typical, you still need to come up with a 32.5 k since UM all in is now 65k.

If eligible for in state tuition you could walk on to Noles or Turds and pay less than what the 1/2 would cost you at UM.

Didnt throw enough to the kid that broke records? Sorry, not buying it. The U could have done a lot of things more during the season, I think throwing to AR is nitpicking.

Well said. Our D is good, but its good because of the scheme right now, not talent alone. We are thin at every single position except maybe DE. The elite teams like FSU can rotate 2 lines at every unit. If we are going to win its because we will have a superior gameplan. There are so many things that have to right to pull off that win. But we are finally building for it, something I couldnt say under AG's non leadership years of trying to convince everyone that he knew what he was doing.

Dude

But lets be real also about the turn around we've had. Richt completely changed the attitude of The U in 1 season. In 1 season's work we now have to be taken seriously. Last year was the best damned coaching job we've seen for our football team in who knows how long. That ND loss still chaps my ass though. That loss... boy that loss pisses me off, thats the game we really should have won fairly easily. Would have had a 10 win season with that one.

Is Old Skool on here part of the west end zone crue?

thirstybuzzardcane

Cager will be our best WR this. Vault it!

Or is Old Skool the very old guy on here?

On occasion, I make it to games. As for being the very old guy ... I believe Fran's got at least a decade on me.

DT: Norton, McIntosh, Willis, Fines, Ford

LB: Quarterman, McCloud, Pinkney, Owens, Smith,

CB: Delaney, Young, Dean, Jackson, Bandy

S: Johnson, Redwine, Carter, Finley, Knowles

Claiming a lack of depth on defense is rediculous. And I forgot a couple of names...
