The Miami Hurricanes checked in at No. 18 in the preseason Associated Press top 25 released Monday. In the final AP rankings of 2016, Miami was No. 20.
The Hurricanes ended the 2016 season with a 9-4 record and a 31-14 victory over West Virginia in the Russell Athletic Bowl.
Earlier in August, Miami was ranked No. 18 in the preseason Amway Coaches Poll. The Hurricanes were picked to win the ACC's Coastal Division in a poll of media at the 2017 ACC Football Kickoff in Charlotte, N.C., in late July.
Eight Hurricanes have picked up accolades this preseason: senior kicker Michael Badgley (Groza Award), senior wide receiver / punt returner Braxton Berrios (Hornung Award), senior tight end Christopher Herndon IV (Mackey Award), junior defensive lineman Kendrick Norton (Bednarik Award, Nagurski Award, Outland Trophy), sophomore linebacker Shaquille Quarterman (Bednarik, Butkus, Nagurski), sophomore wide receiver Ahmmon Richards (Biletnikoff Award), senior defensive lineman Chad Thomas (Nagurski) and junior running back Mark Walton (Maxwell Award, Doak Walker Award, Walter Camp Player of the Year Award).
Miami opens the season at home on Sept. 2 against Bethune-Cookman with Gray Crow slated to replace Brad Kaaya (seen above wearing the Detroit Lions uniform with Stephen Morris) as their starting QB (just kidding, just kidding!). Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m., ET.
Sorry for your loss Tom!

Is it save for me to assume Rozier will be the starting QB for The U.
Posted by: PapaCane | August 21, 2017 at 06:21 PM
Papa.. I would think so IMO
Posted by: UMike | August 21, 2017 at 06:39 PM
He should be able to at least manage the game I hope. Our success depends on that.

The Dude as I was saying.....

Thanks everyone for the condolences and support.

Ah f*ck Malik, I cant even remember what I said.
Posted by: Dude | August 21, 2017 at 11:14 PM
Posted by: PapaCane | August 21, 2017 at 07:47 PM
He managed it pretty good during his one start
Posted by: WWIN | August 21, 2017 at 11:25 PM
Malik will be fine. I have confidence that he and our collection of quarterbacks will get it done. I am more concerned about our offensive line, and our depth at RB, and TE. That's what concerns me.
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | August 22, 2017 at 12:48 AM
Have no issues whatsoever with Malik starting. He's been here a long time, has talent and the respect of his teamates and seems to have reigned in the hero ball streak we heard a lot abuut.
Perry will still get his chance the first two games imo, and if going into FSU he hasnt sntached the job away, well in we go to Tally with a JR QB leading us.
Much worse positions to be in.

Tim Reynolds @ByTimReynolds
Mark Richt says that behind Rosier, Evan Shirreffs is No. 2 on the depth chart. N'Kosi Perry and Cade Weldon will "learn and compete."
Posted by: 30CINCO | August 22, 2017 at 09:40 AM
Ok Malik, let's see what you got.
Posted by: Go Canes! | August 22, 2017 at 09:52 AM
Big mistake, should have gone with The Crow.

He was already at UM for 9 seasons. I think that's the limit.

Lol Gray Crow has been at Miami for 10 Years even the legendary Buck Ortega is impressed with his tenure at Miami passing Ortega 9 Years of service. Gray Crow is starring in National Lampoons Van Wilder the Miami Edition.

Question for you guys..and try to be unbiased...do you think Rosier can beat FSU, VT or UNC? Not asking as a rhetorical question, looking for opinions
Posted by: UMike | August 22, 2017 at 12:17 PM
UMike VT and UNC will both be breaking in first year starters just like us. Don't know who they are but I question if they'll be as tenured as Rosier.
So for them that position is up in the air like ours imo. Only time will tell how all three do. I do think our defense and offensive skill position players will be much better than what both those teams will have, by far.
So for those two teams I say he won't have to play big for us to win.
As far as FSU goes...it ain't going to be easy.
Posted by: Go Canes! | August 22, 2017 at 12:43 PM
Good points Go... I actually didn't know that about their QB. tSully made a good point about our RB and TE depht... We need Homer to step up and I think he will. If the OL can block and Her son steps up, hopefully he can manage the games enough to get us some wins.
Posted by: UMike | August 22, 2017 at 12:52 PM
Pitt also breaking in a first year starter:
#Pitt has named #USC grad transfer Max Browne as its starting QB.
Posted by: Go Canes! | August 22, 2017 at 12:59 PM
And they don't have Canada up there as OC anymore.
Posted by: Go Canes! | August 22, 2017 at 01:00 PM
Hard to believe FSU, starting a redshirt sophomore, is pretty much the envy of the ACC.
Posted by: Go Canes! | August 22, 2017 at 01:02 PM
Do we just have the one qb commit right now? I'm kinda out of the recruiting loop lately
Posted by: UMike | August 22, 2017 at 01:34 PM
Go, I don't care who their QB is as log as Cook is gone lol... Kills me to see kids from Miami kill us on the field
Posted by: UMike | August 22, 2017 at 02:10 PM
Duke Johnson kneeled during the national anthem last night.

Yes, Art Sitkowski (IMG)
Oh, and our D and skill positions will have to beat those 3 teams, not Rosier...

Go back and watch the Duke game and look at all the throws he made... and that was 2yrs ago with Golden's staff!

Yes... but he'll probably just be a career backup lol!
If he decommits tho I see us entering the Justin Fields lottery
Posted by: WWIN | August 22, 2017 at 04:52 PM
WWIN...I remember we needed a miracle play to beat Duke lol

Posted by: UMike | August 22, 2017 at 04:59 PM
Here we go... Nancies gonna Nancy lol! SMH
Or was it Duke was given a PHANTOM TD with 6sec on the clock after TWO PHANTOM pass interference calls on that drive? How many penalties were called on us that game? Take away our miracle TD and take away their PHANTOM TD and we still win if you wanna make things fair.
Were we not winning the WHOLE entire game until the PHANTOM TD??? Didn't Rosier do enough to win the game for us???
Posted by: WWIN | August 22, 2017 at 05:07 PM
Duke deserved that miracle TD after all that cheating they did that game!!! 💯
Posted by: WWIN | August 22, 2017 at 05:09 PM
Good choice. Perry needs to get bigger. Should handle UNC & Va. Tech. Rosier gives us a little bit of a dual threat. At least he should be able to dodge the rush a little better and remember, he was a baseball player, so he should have a good arm. What scares me about him or any other qb we have is their decision making, that will be the key! FSU could be brutal for our Offense. Our defense will have to be the difference in us winning that game.
Posted by: herbieibis | August 22, 2017 at 05:15 PM
WW I wish Rosier the best and want him to succeed, but in that game he made the same throws Kaaya did a hundred times while he was here.
You've made his performance into Vince Young against USC at this point.
We'll see how he does. Hopefully that game will be representative of what he'll do game in and game out.
Posted by: Go Canes! | August 22, 2017 at 05:25 PM
^^^^^^
One of my other points... He can't be any worse than Brad... Who was HIGHLY OVERRATED!!!
You missed the point! What he did at Duke on the road for his first start wasn't good??? That was 2yrs ago so that just shows he's more than capable for the job!
Posted by: WWIN | August 22, 2017 at 05:44 PM
WWIN...you have called our only about commit a career back up and I'm the negative Nancy lol..that wasn't a knock on him, just saying it's not the best body of work to point to. Like i Ive Said more comfortable with him then Sherriffs

Dear Friend,
so sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my Dad 10/2010 and it still hurts. I know he was proud of his family, and it is obvious hid family inherited many great traits from their parents.
amazing about you Dad; my Dad served as a Captain in the Corps in Korea and was wounded there; he did his basic at Lejune.
May The Almighty grant you and all of the families peace, serenity, and understanding during this time.
I think the world of you for all that you have done for your family, community, school, and all of your Canespace family for a long time.
Sincerely,
VAC

No one is saying it wasnt good. It was a nice performance and gives everyone hope he's the man for the job.
But Kaaya had that game 25 times here, yet you call him overrated after everyone of them.
Last year he threw for 400 yds, 4 TDs and no pcks against that same Duke team. But I'm sure you'll turn around and say the receivers did all the work and any QBs could have made the throws.
We'll see how Malik does. I hope he kills it.
But one game doesnt mean he'll blow up or fail. All of us have to wait and see.
Fingers crossed he does a great job.

You don't want to hear my comment! This is why I don't watch the NFL anymore!
Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | August 22, 2017 at 06:23 PM
Jason Whitlock is spot on about the players kneeling! If the NFL was smart they would do the national anthem when the players are in the locker room, just like they do in college. Just my opinion!
Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | August 22, 2017 at 06:33 PM
Copycat,
I don't care if they squat, stand, kneel or get on all 4's. I'm tired of listening about it. The field is for playing games. If u want to make a difference, do it on your off days or off season.
Just like first take, does Max or Steven A. know anything about other sports besides, The NBA, Or Pro football or as The Herb calls it the LBSN, (LeBron James Sports Network).
Posted by: herbieibis | August 22, 2017 at 06:37 PM
Agreed, Herb. Good points!

Rosier is the QB with the most game experience, and he appears to be the one to run CMR's offense and give that Canes running game, speedy playmakers and top ten defense the best chance to win. Rosier needs to manage the game and not turn the ball over or give up negative plays.
If Rosier can do that, Rosier can finally get the Canes over the hump in Tallahassee
Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | August 22, 2017 at 07:17 PM
This season, Mark Walton will be for us what Dalvin Cook has been for FSU in the past - that talented, explosive difference-maker at RB in a close game
