Carolina Panthers CB Corn Elder is out for the season with a knee injury. Horrible news

BigWindyCane1

I hear CMR was not happy with the defensive performance and Diaz chewed the defense out after the game - that's good news. This Canes defense is supposed to be a top ten defense, so it's time for them to play closer to their potential. I would like to see the talent and speed flash more on the field. I would like to see the defense playing faster, putting in great effort and tackling the ball carrier with purpose. The Canes also should Eliminate penalties, missed tackles or bad angles.

It feels great to be back in the Land of Opening Day Ease! Hey CGNC, U remember when we'd be happy to have pulled out a 3 point W over Marshall on opening day?!? Dam! Those days sucked! Enjoyed seeing a couple QB escapes for positive yardage instead of a 5 yard sack. He may not ever play pitch-n-catch as nicely as BK, but Rosier has decent wheels and a nose to escape. Even with improved OL play, we're going to need those qualities this season.

All FL CANES...U all be safe. This one is a monster. Took me almost 6 hours this afternoon to figure out getting my daughter out of Miami. She has to catch ride to Jax tomorrow then fly to Dallas on Thu. Absolutely zero flights out of MIA, FLL, PBI, MCO, TPA... rest of the Fam is staying put though. Images and stories from friends and staff of Harvey were incredible. Friend sent me photo of water up to the top of the stop sign on his street - he had 13 neighbors in his house at one point as their homes flooded. Had to swim food & water over to family stuck (father there couldn't swim) a few doors down; he used a tire to float the supplies. Don't underestimate these storms.

My family and I were in Port Aransas on vacation and left one day before the island was evacuated. It was one of the two areas most directly impacted by the full force of the Cat 4 storm. The before and after photos are incredible, and very saddening.

BREAKING: Saturday's Miami at Arkansas State game is cancelled over Irma concerns. Rescheduling in 2017 is not possible.

CANCELED: Sucks to not get to watch them, but it gives extra FSU prep time.

Go Canes!

Canceling this game is the right thing to do.

These players and coaches, not to mention equipment people and support staff transporting everything needed for a game all have families and shouldn't be separated when there's a CAT 5 bearing down on us.

And everyone needs to say a prayer for Barbuda. They're about to report a catastrophic loss of life on that island.

VfB_Cane

Posted by: Go Canes! | September 06, 2017 at 08:26 AM

Looks like prayers have been heard:

Gaston Browne, the prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda, tweeted:

Gaston Browne @gastonbrowne
06/09/2017, 5:42:18 AM: Gaston Browne: Colleagues, the Lord has protected us and we have been spared the worst of Irma.

* Government offices have been partly destroyed.

I believe he was speaking only of Antigua. There's apparently been little or no contact with Barbuda in hours.

But I really hope that report is true.

CaneRock

Now the Euro tracking models are shifting Irma east, basically going up the coast like Matthew. They had it going west yesterday. Stay prepared regardless.

Imo they had zero concern, less than zero if that's possible, about winning the game. They're this year's App State, a team we'd stomp 100 out of 100 times.

I think they worried about any delays coming back affecting what's going to be very limited prep time for FSU. Get stuck in Cow Dung, Arkansas for two days and there's virtually no practice time for next Saturday.

TonyCane

Canceling the game is good in that these players would not be focused, and would be worrying about friends and family back home.

However we should not Kid ourselves that this will allow extra time to prepare for FSU. If Miami is directly hit they will be lucky to get any significant playing time for FSU. Power will be down, trees will be all over the place on campus, dorm windows broken. Food service will be limited. This happened during Andrew on campus in 1992, and they delayed start of school for two weeks.

SinisterCane

Should have played the game then stayed in the ATL until it was safe to come home

Arkansas is not even on the radar for a hurricane but it make more sense to keep them in FL for safety reason???????????

orange 'n green in the vein

Unless they move Troy up to open December 2nd as the season finale or Georgia Southern up four days to open up October 7th, this game isn't getting played.

Because of Arkansas St.'s TV commitments in league play, it's not happening from what I can tell you.

Go Canes!

Play this week and you have to prep specifically for Ak State. What happens if afterwards you can't fly into S Florida until Tuesday or even Wednesday.

Your routine, practice time and specific game planning for that week is basically ruined.

We had everything to lose and absolutley nothing to gain in going up there this weekend.

NHC:
The UKMET, UK Ensemble mean, and the NAVGEM are the models showing the latest turn, and they forecast Irma to move into the southeastern Gulf of Mexico and near the west coast of the Florida Peninsula. The ECMWF and ECMWF Ensemble mean are in the middle of the model pack and show Irma moving over the southeastern portion of the Florida Peninsula. The GFS, Canadian, and GFS Ensemble mean show the earliest turn and show Irma moving east of the coast of Florida toward the southeastern United States.

So, Irma is staring at the Miami defense and wonders whether it should run left, right or up the middle.

German friends of mine were on their way to the Keys, but turned around on Tuesday to head as far North as they could get. By this morning, they had made it to the Orlando area. They were about to run out of gas in the Ft. Lauderdale area; it took them hours to find a place to refuel.

I suspect it is only getting worse.

VfB_Cane

UM Gables campus to be evacuated tomorrow

University administrators made the call at 8:15 Thursday morning to move remaining students to an off-campus Red Cross shelter in the Southwest Dade area by tomorrow evening. This is the first-ever time the university will be evacuated for a hurricane.

http://www.themiamihurricane.com/2017/09/07/breaking-um-gables-campus-to-be-evacuated-tomorrow/

I can see the problem with the appartment buildings, but the Hecht and Stanford towers are among the safest places in the 305 during a hurricane. These things have weathered every storm since the sixties.

Terrance Sullivan

The 15% bus has made the 700 mile trek Northwest to Downtown Montgomery Alabama here safe and sound with me. It went up the Turnpike to I-75 turn west on I-10 and North on US Highway 231 to I-85 West and a hit a few corners Downtown Montgomery and is now parked in the Parking Lot behind my Downtown Courtyard Apartment.

CaneRock

Terrance, I just stopped in your stomping grounds the other week. Y'all Popeyes is a trip LOL.

BigWindyCane1

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in Irma's cone/spaghetti path. Cancelling the Ark. State game was the right call. Irma will likely impact the Canes game prep for FSU. There is no doubt about it. It's too much for a football team to handle. The Canes have a realistic chance to win the ACC this year, and you don't want off-the-field issues that your team can't control, to cost you a realistic chance to have an historic season

Terrance Sullivan

Lol CR mane you should have hit me up I would have say let's grab a bite and knock back a cold beer Brotha.

Some good people on this blog.

Ron Mayflower

@VfbCane, I think UM folks are worried about the 175mph sustained winds and gusts on top of that and the safety of these buildings(windows blowing out etc). If this thing comes ashore with winds of those magnitudes, S Fl will be in serious danger as that would be unprecedented. I am not particularly aure any of the residential structures were designed to withstand the sustained force. if I still lived in Miami, I would go to some hinterland away drom FL, GA and watch from a safe distance. Perhaps, the newer shelters may withstand 200 mph winds sustained. I read today that Kennedy Space Center is ot designed to withstand winds beyond 135mph.

Ron Mayflower

The traffic was moving over most parts according to google. From Miami, I would head west on I75 and go north cut across to I95 through I4 if going to Northeast or mid Atlantic. If going to AL or TN will take 41 near Tampa and rejoin I75 north of redneckville.

TonyCane

If Hecht is still the same as I remember it, it will weather the storm. Those steel shutters and concrete walls are more than capable.

Although my friends who weathered Andrew in Hecht did say that the building swayed.

Small football question...Andrew closed down UM for two weeks. Would the team still theoretically be able to meet and practice if the school was closed down? Or are we looking at a postponement or cancellation of additional games?

Ron Mayflower

Tony, Hecht may very well be ok, but, Andrew was a very compact storm and there is still debate whether it was really a Cat 5 at landfall. In anycase, the eyewall of Andrew was near Homestead so I would think Gables got less than 120 mph sustained winds given how small the core was. The Irma forecast is much more ominous and most of the S Fl area may ncounter the stronger parts of the eyewall. I hope and pray the storm dissipates to Cat 3 or less before it makes landfall or it goes offshore east or west.

CaneRock

Terrance, I wish I could've took you up on that offer, but maaaaan, we had to hit that road LOL. We had to take our youngest up to UND (North Dakota) to move into His dorm, 30 hour drive each way. Ironically though, I was talking to Him last night, and He said He may look into transferring to UAB.

Terrance Sullivan

Yes He would love UAB a city school in Birmingham. It's nice and it would be a 12 hour trip one way instead of 30 hour trip one way.

HawaiiCane

I hope all are safe and making it out of South Florida! I would extend the same offer as OhioCane, but being out in SoCal probably doesn't make sense... but I do have a couch!

PS - How do you think Arky State fans are feeling now that USF cancelled their conference game against UConn and Florida cancelled their game! Probably sh*tty for thinking that their game mattered... I hope!
