It was the worst of times. It was the best of times.
That was the tale of the Miami Hurricanes football game against Toledo on Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium before the good guys won convincingly 52-30.
In the first half the Hurricanes looked, well, like some smoldering dog crap.
Then, in the second half they looked like, well, the steaming cream of the crop. As fans, most were so angry in the first half that they would have fired the coaching staff and team. Then suddenly, a different team arrived.
At that time we saw a completely different team wake up, smell the coffee, and dominate the second half. So the question remains: "Who are these Miami Hurricanes?" We are convinced that the answer is sure to follow...

There always has to be a SCAPEGOAT for the NCAA. Enter the Canes.

This is so far beyond the NCAA and their good old boy protections.
If the Feds go after you you are A) Guilty and B) Going to jail. Just check their conviction rate and you'll get an idea of what these guys are facing.
They dont give a crap if it's Rick Pitino, Roy William, Coach K or anyone else.

Those Coaches in there Snitching Like Mitches!!
But Hey,
This is Bigger than coaches and I truly believe this story is a Whole lot bigger than we imagine. Think Sonny Vaccaro

It's a rare day when a coach who has done it the wrong way his entire career and gotten to the top relatively unscathed not once but twice finally gets his just deserts.
What a time to be alive!

I heard there is no evidence against Miami. The only thing they got is a coach from another school that ratted out one of our coaches. That's the only reason we were in the FBI report.
Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | September 27, 2017 at 02:05 PM
The biggest question is what is the NCAA going to do!

Isn't Louiville on sanctions and probation still? Sounds like the death penalty to me!

Football is next. Watch out!
Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | September 27, 2017 at 02:09 PM
Thirsty...watch that is what the NCAA focuses on. Whether evil Miami was involved. All resources, data collection, and special forces will be directed at Coral Gables. A spec ops suited Mark Emmerett will set up a mobile command center outside of Coach L's house!

If a named defendant cooperates with the FBI by implicating one of UM's coaches, WE'RE SCREWED again.

It is my understanding that a university can provide that a specified portion of a coach's "compensation package" will come from one or more third parties (for "non-coaching" activities such as endorsements, TV and radio shows, etc.), which payments are guaranteed by the school. But I could be wrong!
Regardless, I have no evidence that UM stuctures it's basketball (or football) contracts this way.

No doubt, TonyCane!!!

Maybe! The only thing is the FBI has no evidence as far as recordings, messages, etc. So to bring charges on a coach would be tough. Now I guess the NCAA could do something when they get involved.

He was a beast vs Toledo. I believe he deserves it. He was WAY better than Delaney that day. I'll trust Diaz. For now.

Cutcliffe will have a plan to take advantage of our secondary. We will see a lot of quick throws to slow down our pass rush. This will not be a easy win.

Because of his size and flexibility I think they are using him very well. At this stage in his career it might be better longterm. Dont wanna burn a guy out that's his size in run support especially in short yardage or obvious run situations.
Carter should be making a strong push to start by the end of the year!

WRIGHT has been the Canes best CB so far, and Bandy has been second best. I would also like to see Dean get some burn. The few plays Dean was in the Game at the end, he was all over his man. Dean may struggle with tackling, but No catches on Dean.
That said, I will have to trust the coaches' judgement for now, but Delaney and Jackson must get at least a pick or pass defenses during the game. It's up to them. Performance speaks volumes.

Message tonight from President Julio Frenk states in part as follows:
[W]e have confirmed with the U.S. Attorney’s Office that, at this time, it is investigating a potential tie to one member of our coaching staff and a student recruit.
While we are alarmed and disappointed, we are steadfast in our belief that we must also act with the highest level of integrity and commitment to the pursuit of truth. To that end, we have pledged our full and complete cooperation with the Department of Justice probe as well as to the NCAA, with whom we will jointly review any relevant matters.

One sports betting site is pushing the line on the Miami v Duke game to -7 in favor of the Canes, after opening at -5.5.
Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | September 27, 2017 at 09:33 PM
If the Canes come out and run the ball effectively on Duke and Rosier doesn't turn the ball over, the Canes should win in a blowout. IMO, the Canes can run the ball at will on Duke.
I think the Canes defense will likely improve. The strength of this DIAZ defense is stopping the run, and Duke under Roper wants to run to set up the pass. If the Canes continue to stop the run on early downs and Duke gets into third and long situations, Duke will struggle mightily on offense.
The talent gap between these programs should show itself IMO
