Herndon is HIGHLY underused!

Posted by: RCCF | October 16, 2017 at 11:18 AM

Absolutely concur! hUh. Wasn't Herndon suppose to be the second coming of Njouku.

Was it a panic, or just trying to do something fun for your guys? Something cocky and brash?

Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | October 16, 2017 at 10:43 AM

Dont do that to me Dude. You got me thinking now.

It definitely took more balls than brains to make that call.

Matter fact, it does seem over aggressive more than scared.

Richt runs a vanilla but over aggressive passing scheme.

That call does kind of match his coaching personality.

Playing to win is refreshing after so much powder puff play in previous years.

If we're undefeated going into the VT and/or ND game, I'm betting College Gameday is on campus for one of them.

Another close game at home would be very troubling

Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | October 15, 2017 at 11:52 PM

Wrong again! Especially when one takes into account a few gridiron variables and all that. hUh. For instance, Miami MAY NOT have all those starters back for this Saturday. OUCH. Then take into account that Syracuse will BE READY and is on an EMOTIONAL HIGH and what not ( The Orange DON'T FEAR ANY TEAM now. That includes Miami! ). dUh. Then finally, Miami is a team which STARTS SLOWLY out of the gate, but makes a late STRETCH RUN to win the race... err game.

Posted by: Ohio_Cane | October 16, 2017 at 01:14 PM

Perhaps. It depends on other Top 10 match ups those two particular Saturdays. And one has to factor in Notre Dame's schedule going into their game with Miami. Because the mighty Fighting Celtics play mighty USC this Saturday. Then face upstart North Carolina St. OUCH!! I'm guessing mighty Notre Dame LOSES one of those games, which would knock Miami out of possibly hosting Game Day. hUh.

Nevertheless, mighty VA Tech would probably be the safer bet for Miami to host Reece, Herbie, Howard and Corso. Because the Jive Turkeys have easier games prior to their showdown with Miami- Va Tech is also coming off a bye week. dUh.

86Cane Your postings have become so eloquent, informative, poetry in prose, and something that I learn from every day. A little extra sugar for Tom.
When U are a graduate from the U, it shows. I'm just sayin'.

Miami against the mighty Fighting Celts would be the more ATTRACTIVE game for College Game Day- yet there's that ND schedule prior to November 14. hUh.

So if Cane fan wants Reece, Herbie, Howard and the ' clown ' Corso at SLS. Then they better start PRAYING to Yoda, Buddha and other football deities. dUh. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I understand the VAST MAJORITY of Cane fandom ' hate ' Notre Dame and all that. So what!

I think you sum it up perfectly. The only thing I wonder is it a) Richt doesnt see the open middle, or b) Richt doesnt trust Rosier's accuracy enough to let him go there?

Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | October 16, 2017 at 10:46 AM

We have two different qbs with completely different skill sets, but our route concepts are basically the same over 2 seasons.

I do not believe Richts problems with passing short middle are personell based. When we use it, we move the ball. That rac Richards did against Duke should be a staple. Those routes are what we are given most snaps.

It is a philosophical issue.

How many great pass catching tes has he produced?

Now that one horrible pick Malik threw is proof we should be cautious with him throwing deep and even intermediately over the middle.

But he has done nothing to make us think he cant consistently complete passes of three to five yards to Herndon, the backs or crossing recievers between the hashes.

Richt is both ignoring this critical element and taking too long to feel his team and the opposition to add wrinkles that get the ball moving.

This is causing unnecessarily tight wins and probably leads to losses like last year.

Go to today's MIAMI HERALD, front page: woman running for Congress speaks of being in spaceships with aliens, etc.
And, she will probably win.

Very true

Posted by: WWIN | October 16, 2017 at 06:52 AM

LOL Like CO says, more can go wrong with an onside kick than go right. Had it worked I would have been happy but would have been wondering WHY it was attempted in the first place. I think that and I know way less than most of you.......

86 is right - our receivers got no separation - GT seemed to know the routes....

Ha anyone see Corn Elder on the jumbotron? He looked ticked off. Probably at the secondary

Go Canes!

Canes check in at #18 in average yards per play:

There IT is right there.

Posted by: Go Canes! | October 16, 2017 at 12:45 PM

I agree 100%. We are still 1-3 years away from being top 5 team or dominant in any way.

BUT we have enough talent now to be doing much better that we are.

Y’all so busy debating the OC you missed the big story.

Go Canes & 86 agreeing

Gainesville, FL – Florida Governor Rick Scott has issued a state of emergency in Alachua County ahead of a planned speech by Richard Spencer at the University of Florida campus in Gainesville.

Spencer is a well-known white nationalist.

VA Cane

if he kicked it long enough and we got it what would people have said then? So if you would have been happy had we recovered it you should be mad at the execution not the call.

I understand your thought process...BUT....If = middle word in Life...and "If a Bullfrog had wings he wouldn't whomp his azz every time he jumped"....and I will leave the if my aunt had b*lls one out....
If it worked i guess we would all be worshipping the call....too early to do that stufff...JMO....

I agree, Go. This is not a true championship level team this year. It won't be next year either. 2019 is the earliest we get to elite level and begin destroying teams. What we have currently will allow us to hang with and potentially beat top level programs, but it may be a tall order this year to expect us to beat Clemson or NC St in the ACC title game, Oh St in round one, and Alabama at the end.

We need next year's recruiting class to arrive intact and get a full year under their belts. Perry needs to get playing time next year. And our haul of freshmen wide receivers need to mature.

That said, as long as we're undefeated this year the future can be now. I would love to see CM Richt upset Alabama and win the national championship. Sabah can retire and devote his full energies to leasing cars to Crimson Tide players.

When did they start calling Neo-Nazi/white supremacist.....white nationalist?

Anyway I hope CMR uses this against UF in recruiting

He's not really a neo-Nazi, although he is a white supremacist. I was blown away when he said that voting is silly and that he didnt believe in it. What kind of democracy loving American would follow this guy?

I have seen Rosier throw, and he throws a great ball, but is just not as consistent with his reads and his accuracy as he can be. IMO, that is an issue that has stopped this offense from really being as dominant as it could be.

However, I think Rosier can be more consistent and accurate. This is only his sixth game as a starter. Rosier is figuring it out, and so are the coaches figuring him out.

Rosier has had great games so far, but still, his completion percentages are around 59%, ranked 10th in the ACC, which is relatively low (For example, the freshman Blackman from FSU is at 63%). I think the throws are there for Rosier to get his completion percentage up to around 65-70%, which is where the high powered passing attacks usually aim for. I think CMR will help Rosier get there, and if he does, the points-per-game will go up by at least 10.

Also, Rosier may not be as consistent with his reads or as accurate as we like all the time, but he is still very good. Rosier does bring a whole bunch of intangibles, namely his added mobility and toughness. I also give Rosier credit for ignoring coverages and having the courage to throw the ball to his best playmaker once again. I just think that a little more consistency earlier in the game, and we are talking about no need for desperate 4th down plays.

IMO, the Canes went pretty far towards winning the Coastal on Saturday. But I am a 12% Canes fan, so I am looking to see if they can win all their games. They certainly are favored, but they must stop tempting fate. I am going to watch that Syracuse game closely to see if the Canes can get that consistency on offense going against Syracuse. That would give me indications that the Canes are in it to win it.

By the way, I will say it again. The defense looked horrible in the first half, was we all acknowledge. In the second half, however, that Canes/Diaz defense put on the most dominant defensive performance in the ACC this season - by far. That may have been the best half of Canes defensive football I have seen in a decade, because they were playing a very good offensive team, and the Canes just shut them down. The Canes were literally 'flying around', making tackles, aggressive, reading keys, carrying out assignments, getting lined up properly, and just physically dominating the line of scrimmage. It was a beautiful thing to see. They were very good, only giving up three points and coming up with stop after stop when their offense really needed it. Like the offense, once the Canes defense learns to put together a full game, look out.

My biggest issue with Rosier is 3rd and 5-6ish. He seem hellbent on throwing bombs when underneath area of the field is open. Now I know where the hero ball comments was referring to in fall camp

My problem/worry with this upcoming Syracuse game is that we KNOW our defensive strength is our D-Line, and our secondary is suspect...

Guess what? Clemson... (who just got THROTTLED by the Syracuse O), is thought to have one of the BEST D-Lines in the entire country, and a far more experienced secondary than ours.

We're going to have our hands full with the Cuse's prolific offense.

If we take another half-a-game to get OUR offense on track, we could be trailing by WAY more than 1 point at halftime...

We need to be smarter on offense CMR! To say those fade routes to the "small" receiver packages were just not thrown accurately enough doesn't take into account that the target WINDOW to a TALL receiver is FAR LARGER, and doesn't require the same pinpoint accuracy, as to a little guy.

C'Mon Coach... Don't fall into the "smartest man in the room" category, like our previous coaching regime and IGNORE legitimate concerns and suggestions. We NEED YOU to be OPEN TO CHANGE and ADJUSTMENTS!

And there IT is once again!

How can u not be sold on Diaz? The man makes the right adjustments, and usually before the half. What else can u ask for?

Tough crowd I guess.

Posted by: 1mg of Epi | October 16, 2017 at 09:47 AM

Well where would you like for me to start? Lol...

He's Texas' D'no... meaning Longhorns fans feel the same way about him as you do D'no. He was a nobody before we hired him and now all of a sudden people think he's God's gift to defense lol.

Bethune Cookman gave us work, Toledo gave us work, fsu had a game winning touchdown drive on us had we not scored within the last seconds, Tech was marching on us till the rain came including in the second half! Tech's first possession in the 3rd qtr looked just like they did in the 2nd.

What about our star linebackers and his position group? They're either too aggressive, in the wrong gap, or missing the tackle. Take away Coach Kul and what would he be? That's the only unit on D that's ballin!

Again... I'm not calling for his head I'm just not sold yet. This is MY OPINION... but to be fair... after Coker, Shannon, and Golden it's going to take a lot to sell me now lol!

Coaches I'm sold on so far...
1. Coach Kul
3. Coach Searles

That's it lol

Don't get me wrong... Rosier is NOT close to being perfect but when the DB's are on our WR's like white on a storm trooper uniform and they play calling isn't good... it's hard for ANY QB to have a good completion percentage given those circumstances!

Posted by: WWIN | October 16, 2017 at 07:39 PM

Add Ron Dugans to that list and rest are replaceable

Posted by: TruCane81 | October 16, 2017 at 10:39 AM

It's two types of onside kicks... one during desperation times when EVERYONE knows it's coming and the other when NO ONE expects it to come. So the timing was good. People don't go to casino's only when they're broke... they go when they WANT MORE money! Had we recovered that kick would you be here today saying I'm glad we got it but I wish he didn't call it then???

Posted by: CGNC | October 16, 2017 at 01:45 PM

When Nick Satan called the onside kick in the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME what was said about him? Wrong timing? 😂

Posted by: SinisterCane | October 16, 2017 at 06:16 PM

Straight up, Sin.

It is hard for me to believe that Rosier all of a sudden figures out in the second half that the short passes are what moves the ball and puts points on the board.

It is possible this is the case, but still hard to believe.

A great short pass on 3rd and medium is generally better than a good long one.

If Malik really is wingin it like that on his own and not due to the scheme, then maybe we need to reduce the temptation with more route combos that are ALL short to intermediate.

Every pass play does not need a deep route.

Go Canes!

Sometimes I can’t wven believe the things I read on here.

10 and 0 in our last 10
Top 10 national ranking
Lead nation in second half scoring
Only undefeated ACC team
Beat FSU
Third nationally in tackle for losses per game

The awesome list is endless

All while missing Walton and Richards.

Posted by: WWIN | October 16, 2017 at 08:09 PM

If it worked I would have jumped up laughing and praised CMR for having balls the size of Texas.

Then I woluld have said," Good thing that worked or I would have been talking alot of shyt about Coach on the Space...."

Posted by: Go Canes! | October 16, 2017 at 08:23 PM

I'm beyond happy about beating FSU and being undefeated but I'm not blind to our 1st half deficiencies. With no creativity in offensive play calling and inaccurate QB play is gonna bite us in the a$$.

We been here before go.

5-0, 6-0, 7-0. It doesnt matter.

Too many times we been burned like this.

Forgive us for not drinking the kool aid.

Its hard to get over excited about record and rank when you got glaring problems that many think will be solved with talent alone.

I know better than that shyt.

Teams play the way they are coached, period.
Coach it right, and you mostly only.lose when you are beaten physically.

In this last decade plus of despair, most of our losses were not due to playing better teams.

I was told a story by one of the best modelers at Ford Motor. His team felt like they had the best talent in the industry and could make Ford the number 1 car company in the world, producing
stylish cars that were twice as durable and half the cost.

They pleaded with management to allow changes that would increase quality style and productivity, but to no avail. Management was complacent and stuck in a mindset of excuses and mediocrity.

They did not believe.

2012 Ravens, 2001 Patriots, 2002 suckeyes. The list goes on.

We have what it takes to be the surprise champion if we stop making excuses and just get better, starting at the top.

Posted by: TruCane81 | October 16, 2017 at 09:07 PM

Well said and I might as well only watch the 2nd half of the game lol

Go Canes!

Some of you live in dream land if you think our offensive lineup right now, minus Walton and Richards is championship cailber.

Rosier (minus an injurt start at Duke 2 years ago), Homer, Harley, Thomas, Cager, Langham and Choc, all of who got differing degrees of playing time Saturday have never even started a game before this year or even worse THIS WEEK.

That's SEVEN guys who've never done a damn thing before.

For God's sake three of them were in high school this time last season and two more were rehabbing torn ACLs.

Even Barrios, who's been a beast for us this year, had less than 450 receiving yards FOR HIS CAREER entering this season.

Despite that, we lead the nation in second half scoring, have outscored EVERY opponent in the second half for 11 straight games, and are second in the ACC in points. We're undefeated, ranked in the Top 10, control our own destiny and have a world class defense to pick up the slack if for the first time in a year our offense falters in crunch time.

Wah, we dont throw across the middle. Wah we start slowly. Wah, we've been here before. Was, why so many fade passes.

I guarantee you no one here was bitching when Homer was ripping off long runs and that monster TD when we ran those "predicable" running plays.

Play the result much.

I'm getting nauseated at all this freaking whining and nitpicking.

Man if you're talking about replaceable coaches and how you've been hurt before at this point, you need help.

Puke bags are in the seat back pocket.

Have at it!

Canes opened as a -13.5 favorite at home this weekend, but now are a -14.5 to -15 point favorite. Clemson was a -23 point favorite on the road when Syracuse upset them last weekend. Can't take this game for granted

Saban has how many rings?

He could walk out to midfield at opening kickoff
and take a dump on the field and I wouldnt question it lol.

Alright Go you win lol.

Excuse, excuse, excuse.... somebody call the whambulance lol!

News flash... we've looked like this with EVERYBODY HEALTHY! We looked like this last year! And why do we have to be championship caliber to beat da hell outta GA Tech?

Players available this past game that have proven to be clutch... Herndon, Langham, Berrios, Homer... are they not good enough to destroy GA Tech???
