It took 59 minutes and 54 seconds, but the Miami Hurricanes prevailed over the Florida State Seminoles, 24-20, to remain unbeaten in 2017.
The annual rivalry matchup between the No. 13/12 Canes and Noles was full of excitement in the second half, as the two teams combined for 41 points and five lead changes before a loud crowd of 78,169 fans at Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday.
"We had a wonderful celebration in the locker room," Miami head coach Mark Richt said. "It was a long time coming for our players, coaches, administration, but certainly a long time coming for our fans. I am probably most happy for them because they are a true orange and green fan base. The ones that were here today especially; got here early, were loud and proud the whole time, pregame warm-up, kicking butt. Their presence was felt by our team, and by me personally. It doesn't matter how you win a game like this. Really, quite frankly, it doesn't matter how you win any game if you just do it within the rules because wins are hard to get and especially in this series. I am just thankful. Praise the Lord."
But it was redshirt junior Darrell Langham, who was on his second offensive snap of the night, who dove at the goal line to score a 23-yard touchdown catch on Florida State's star corner Tarvarus McFadden with six seconds remaining that snatched a victory from the Seminoles and sent the Hurricanes home victorious.
"I didn't know if I was in or not," Langham said. "I was just happy I caught the ball and was just trying to get in the end zone. The whole way through that play just goes back to practice for me. Coach [Ron Dugans] is always telling me to be big, use my body, go for the ball. I'm just happy I came down wit the ball and happy I ended the streak."
The path to victory was a roller coaster ride for Miami (4-0, 2-0 ACC), who went into the locker room down, 3-0, at half time. The Hurricanes struggled to get much going offensively in the opening 30 minutes, tallying just 57 yards of total offense. But their attack began clicking after the break.

I believe we will do just fine with Homer and any combination of Choc, Burns or Dallas. That's a backfield with 3 4-star players and one of the best athletes in Dade county. It will come together. Homer will run for over 100 against the wreck

Tour de France. ..haha. ..sad but true. .
Just sure up the tackling and stay in your lanes...GT will expose those mistakes.
Their QB actually can throw. ..
Just Win baby, just win!
God bless you and Go Canes!

Honestly have no idea.
Posted by: Go Canes! | October 10, 2017 at 10:26 AM
Think Burns will RS this season. Homer, Gray, Dallas will get the opportunities. Could even use Thomas in certain situations.
Posted by: 30CINCO | October 10, 2017 at 10:29 AM
Also: the running back order at practice: Travis Homer, Trayone Gray, walk-on Crispian Atkins and freshman DeeJay Dallas, who has been a receiver for UM until now.

No idea what the problem is, but no mention of Burns indicates there's something not right with him.
Yearby and Edwards should be sore from kicking themselves for the last two days.
Nothing good ever comes from trying to avoid competition!

If the D'no D can handle the GT option, I have no doubt the MD defense can. We took care of them last year, we will do it again this year....I am not worried
Posted by: raizecane | October 10, 2017 at 10:39 AM
What is Joseph Yearby doing right now? I mean besides being the 1st team RB on a team that is Top 10?

Yearby will most likely end up in CFL
Posted by: AtlantaCane | October 10, 2017 at 12:46 PM
Now is the time of their college football life's. Because these young Canes have to MAN UP, and give the Canes some quality minutes. hUh. In other words, I don't expect to see these four Cane starters on the field this Saturday- Richards, Donaldson, Walton and Dee Dee. dUh. Well, MAY BE Delaney will play.

DuH! Both Miami and mighty FSU ALWAYS have ' banged up ' players after they face each other! Even that FSU wide receiver Richards ' layed out ' may not play this Saturday. dUh.
Posted by: TheeMackJones | October 10, 2017 at 12:52 PM
A) I'm not being hard on anyone. If we bring in a Top 100 RB nationally and he is totally healthy I don't find it strange to be disappointed if he doesn't contribute.
B) As is the case every week, The Miami Hurricanes win or lose, not Malik Rosier or Brad Kaaya. Plus, you have NO IDEA what would have happened had Kaaya stayed. Your obsession about making our team about one player is not only wrong, its bizarre.
Posted by: Go Canes! | October 10, 2017 at 04:26 AM
A) You conveniently left out the part where HE HAS NOT PLAYED IN THREE YEARS and just had surgery this year! Does it not cross your mind that his situation is A LOT DIFFERENT than a normal top 100 RB coming out of high school???
B) Three years body of work for Brad I'm pretty sure I know what he has to offer lol! So you don't know whether Brad would make this team better or not?

Posted by: NativeCane | October 10, 2017 at 12:59 PM
GoCanes, that happens every time we play FSU. We emerge battered from it. The difference this year is that depth at most positions is better.
Unless Burns is not physically able to go, they should burn the RS. Better for him to establish himself as a known commodity this year than to enter next year as an unknown competing with Lindegard.

That sounds about right Terrance. Tech is clearly better than they were last year, but so are we. Miami owns that antediluvian offense.

Brown says Burns not ready to play due to injury:
Some UM notes on a Tuesday:
• With Mark Walton out for the year, UM is comfortable giving lead back duties to Travis Homer, who is averaging 8.2 yards per attempt on 25 carries.
I asked offensive coordinator Thomas Brown if Homer is strong enough to shoulder a 15 to 20 carry load.
"No doubt," Brown said. "He’s as tough as they come. He’s in phenomenal shape."
But Brown said conditioning, and how the running game is going, will determine Homer’s workload and how carries are distributed.
Though Homer isn’t physically imposing in street clothes, linebacker Shaq Quarterman said, correctly, that Homer "is physical. He will lower his shoulder on you. We love that about him. The first thing you see is speed. He’s not small but he runs big."
Homer said he is 5 to 10 pounds heavier than when he arrived. "I’m a lot stronger."
• UM shifted receiver DeeJay Dallas to running back Monday. Brown said he will have four backs available against Georgia Tech: Homer, Trayone Gray, Dallas and walk-on Crispian Atkins.
Freshman Robert Burns "has a ways to go" to get healthy after a spring shoulder injury, Brown said.
As for Gray, "he’s looking better than he’s ever looked," Brown said. "We finally took the knee brace off. A 235-pound man that can run really fast when he wants to."

If this was still on Thursday instead of conflicting now with a prior scheduled family function that will be the deciding 'not this week' factor for me, I might have ponied up the $10 for the ticket to watch a high school offense run clock if they had been ranked. Instead it looks like I'll wait to see if the VT ticket is worth the extra money to start November before I'm spending any cash to watch a home game. The ND game is going to be the best game to watch in stadium but the prices to get even cheap seats wold be better used on a potential freezing December night in Charlotte's costs of attendance Noel so . . .

Posted by: canezilla | October 10, 2017 at 02:06 PM
tSully I don't think the score is that close. This isn't a high powered passing team that gives us fits, it's the same running attack we see every year. I think Rosier comes in with a new confidence (see end of the game when he was taunting the FSU crowd) and has a great game. Homer gos for over 100 and we win by 17 or more.
Posted by: UMike | October 10, 2017 at 02:11 PM
^^^ I'm looking for a statement also UMike. You'd have to think these kids have tremendous focus right now. I say we shut them down and f*ck them up. I feel good about 38-17.
