Yesterday was as close to a complete performance we've had all season. If Richards and Berrios 3 big play drops were catches, we're up at least 27-3 at the half. Cuse would've abandoned the run. Our DL would've punished Dungey the rest of the game. Not pulling away gave them hope and they fought.

This was the difference between a close one and a beatdown...

They better use UNC to tighten for VT.

Go Canes!

#PennState QB Trace McSorley and #Miami LB Michael Pinckney have been Named the Walter Camp FBS Players of the Week.

mi@mic@ne

When we joined the ACC we now play teams in or conference that are familiar with out schemes and players because we play them every year. Its kind of like the Dolphins in the eastern division. So we cannot take any one in our division for granted. Familiarity is why I think we are better nationally than the sports world is saying.

CoCane

Uh...

It's the same in every conference...

- 9 tackles
- 6 solo
- 3.5 TFL
- 2.5 sacks

Congrats to Mike Pinckney on being named a @WalterCampFF National FBS Player of the Week!

It will be very interesting to see how FSU fares against Syracuse

Nice win yesterday. crazy windy all daylong -not sure how much wind was on the field but up where I sit it had to be constant 25 30 mph. People's food was blowing off their plates lol.

LikeCo said - not going to over-analyze - we saw what we saw. We are consistently inconsistent lol.

CGNC

The Syracuse QB is a tough kid. He took a beating.

TonyCane

Regarding UNC, I don't care if they are 1-7. We are 2-3 against the House of Barth in the last five years, and have lost two straight to them. I would hope that we are not overlooking them, and if anything are seeking to make a statement game against them.

Herbieibis

I wouldn't call coughing up 264 yds on the ground a good defensive effort. The Cardiac Canes need to play 2 halves of football. Saw the Irish play UNC, wasn't that impressed but like always they don't give up the deep balls and try to keep everything in front of them. The edge defense, needs to shore those holes up. We're giving up to many gash plays, that will hurt us against the Irish and Va. Tech. Pass dee was excellent. Richt needs to stomp on the gas. To many dead periods in the game and to many FG's as apposed to TD's. Have the talent to run the regular season table. We are close but not quite a top 5 team yet but it's coming!

Go Canes!

The next three weeks will tell us all we need to know. Two arguably Top 10 teams coming into our house back to back.

Screw the Syracuse QB...kid was 13-41, threw 4 INTs, and would've thrown 6 if we didn't drop 2. No praise from me.

They allowed 19 points, had a bunch of turnovers, threw their QB around and won us the game despite the O not doing their job regularly. D was the MVP, they played great. Could they have done better? Absolutely, but they were still great.

He kept getting up after being smashed time and time again. Say what you want about him as a QB, but he's a tough kid.

HawaiiCane

CaneRock, I wouldnโ€™t praise his performance but heโ€™s tough. We did beat his a**!

Go Canes!

That kid played QB like every scrappy white point guard Syracuse basketball has ever had.

BigWindyCane1

Pinkney was his usual outstanding self. Quarterman was also very good. Syracuse did a lot of damage when Quarterman and Pinkney were resting in the second half. McCloud and the backup LBs have some progress to make. The CBs (minus Delaney) were great in their man to man coverage, Jaquan Johnson was good, and the defensive line is very deep and very good across the board.

264 yards rushing by Syracuse isn't good, but the overall pass defense was very good. Third down defense must improve and play up to their potential

Week 9 AP Top 10

How Ohio State, who canโ€™t score on a decent power 5 team keeps doing it is beyond me.

1. Alabama
2. Penn State
3. Georgia
4. TCU
5. Wisconsin
6. Ohio State
7. Clemson
8. Miami
9. Notre Dame
10. Oklahoma

Game Day has to be in Miami for the ND game after we beat VT.

Keep something in mind tho... these big state schools have 60-80,000ish students. When we have fewer fans at a game it isn't because our fans suck, it's cause our student population is small. Remove students from most stadiums and it'll look like ours.

Don't over analyze this game.

If not for the drops, Rosier throws for well over 400 yards and It's a blowout...

Today was the epitome of, "a win is a win".

Couldnโ€™t disagree more with statement.

BigWindyCane1

Canes are past the middle of the regular season. My observations of the Canes defense are mixed given the high expectations. I see a defense that has potential to be elite, but not quite there yet. Perhaps the Hurricane Irma layoff effected the development, and other teams are ahead of the Canes right now in terms of chemistry from playing and practicing

Canes pass defense is good because of improved CB play and an outstanding pass rush. The Canes lead the ACC in opponent passer efficiency, opponents yardage per pass, and passes defended per game. Canes are second in the ACC in tackles for loss and sacks per game. The Canes also lead the ACC in turnover margin per game. The Canes are also among the best in the ACC in denying Red zone touchdowns and plays over 50 yards.

The negatives begin with the third down defense which is among the worst in the ACC. The run defense is among the worse in the ACC in total yards and yards per rush. Opponents are targeting rushing plays designed to take advantage of all LBs not named Quarterman and Pinkney.

I love our all of the Canes DTs against the run and pass, and Demetrius Jackson, Thomas and Harris have been good against the run and pass. I thought Joe Jackson could be All ACC, but that looks like a long shot now.

Sorry about the size of the crowd blog, but it is true.
School size, of course, plays a part. Being a school in suburbia with no stadium plays a part.
I just want us to be like PENN, with all the white pom poms waving. Couldn't believe that picturesque site.
Even though we don't have the numbers, like Michigan,Penn, etc.,there is no question that our fan base is more enthusiastic and committed.
IT'S GREAT TO BE A MIAMI HURRICANE!!!!

The turf is absolutely terrible in The Rock! I think its time to put artificial turf in there.

I really don't know why it should be bad. That stadium wasn't played in for 3 weeks at one time. That field should be prestine condition.

AeroCane

Until we convert on 3rd down dramatically better than we do now, our offense will continue to struggle.

Agree - this is part our OL not being 'tough' enough in the ground game; part rosier not making a proper read; but MOSTLY it's the play calling. It's almost like richt is calling stupid plays to keep the game close. Come on
- 1st and goal at the 2 or so yard line - how bout a fade to langham, a roll it with homer trailing rosier and Herndon in front in the end zone, etc
That first drive set the tone; we stop them, drive down the field and settle for an effing FG. Not good.

Go Canes!

Student sections are probably 10-20% kids who are in school. The rest are generations of alumni who grew up loving their teams and most importantly going to games, religiously, every Saturday year in and out.

Ask yourself this, out of every 100 kids who graduate from any big time school, how many make Saturday football a part of their lives after they leave.

Bet you their ratio is 2-300% higher.

AeroCane

Defensively - we were fun to watch and awesome!
On 3rd and 25 it was a joke we gave up the first and we have to stop the big runs up the middle. Besides that I liked what I saw and again, the recruits will come because they are a FUN, AGGRESSIVE D!

Why did Syracuse keep looking to the sideline in confusion before the snap???

They may have been absorbing Miami game tape from 2013 - 2014.

We beat Syracuse, and went down in the rankings to a team whose last game was a loss to Syracuse. Can't make this up.

Crazy but if we just do our job then everything will fall in place
if we beat them 42 to 17 or so, like we should have, we probably would have jumped osu and stayed ahead of Clemson

A guy at the Atlanta fan club gave me his Orange lot parking pass and 2 tickets to the VT game!! I was looking at the schedule trying to determine if it will be a 3:30pm or night kickoff. OK vs OKST and LSU vs ALA are the other big games followed by Pedo State vs MichST. On paper the Miami game looks like the best game of the day, but I doubt we get Gameday to show up or a prime-time kick either. If Miami beats VT I would guess the ND game would definitely be a prime-time game and may even lure the Gameday show.

So you're saying only 6-10,000 UF students attend a game? That's not right.

Mary Lou - there were quite a few there yesterday about 56,000, I think. People stream in slowly though. At kickoff the stadium is only 25% full as everyone has not gotten to their seats yet. Full capacity 65,326.00 since the renovations.

Go.. I'm actually curious what u r getting at. Pretty much the whole student body goes to the games, whether in student section or not.

Also, our NFL stadium holds more people than the typical college one. Especially before the renovations. I saw an attendance list last year that showed UM as actually above average for attendance compared to the rest of the nation.

We can't be a penn state, but we don't want to.

MLAlumni1970

I think I read 56,000 and then 44,000. It just looked bad as they panned the whole place. How many does the place hold?
A smaller stadium, packed, packed, packed would look just magnificent, just like when we packed the grand ol' lady. (Orange Bowl)
Love the traditional uniforms that CMR has gone back to. But the new question is: WHICH COLOR DO YOU PREFER??? GREEN OR ORANGE
I prefer ORANGE
What do all of you say?????

Posted by: 1mg of Epi | October 22, 2017 at 07:39 PM

Most student sections are limited in size because of the gigantic demand for tickets at most big time programs.

Michigan, despite a capacity of 100k as actually shrunk theirs. Nebraska only has a couple of thousand season tickets available each year. The entire season has been sold out for decades.

While my daughter was at FSU thhey could only get tickets to football games based on a point system where you had to attend other sporting events as well.

I guarantee you entire student bodies dont go to every game. They can't get tickets because alumni and other season ticket holders use them all.
