The VA offensive play calling helped us out in the end. Great to get the win though.

Y was Richt running the ball inside when Virginia defense is slow in running to the edge. They could have run homer outside all game and gotten better production instead of just the 4th quarter.

TruCane81

We will struggle on d if we dont let the front 4 eat.

Jam them guys up mixing cover 1 and cover 2 and live with the occassional big play.

More often than not, you will just have qbs running for their life, throwing bad passes in to coverage.

We developed the perfect scheme for mobile qbs.

If we trust the dl for what they are and take away the dink and dunk game that works so well against us (but we refuse to stick with ourselves), noone will score more than 14 on us and we will run away with the national title.

Richt adjusts well but slow and he abandons what is successful too often.

Its frustrating because we see how good he is and he has a hard time wrapping it all up for more consistent dominant performances.

But I can ride with it because we get better over time, whether game to game or quarter to quarter.

You really cant ask for much more, even if you do pick apart every play and decision from the comfort of your armchair lol.

I think that shoulder injury from the UNC game is bothering Rosier. That long completion where Thomas had to come back for the ball should've been a TD.

My LOF Jaquan JOHNSON has to be all an ACC safety, and might also be All American. Should be a Thorpe Award finalist. JJ turned this game around with his INT. Probably led the Canes in tackles and had a sack. I saw Jaquan play in high school, and thought he was one of the best defensive players I had seen. His defense at killian was great, and he was the leader that made them. Jaquan waited patiently the last two years playing behind upper class men. Now, it's his turn. Glad Jaquan is finally getting his due. Jaquan is the real deal.

Guess who's being investigated for grabbing a female by the _ _ _ _ y: Jameis, former QB of Female SexAbuse University

Winston is being investigated by the NFL for allegations by a female Uber driver in Scottsdale, Arizona that he groped her when they stopped at the drive-thru of a Mexican restaurant in March of 2016.

The Uber driver alleged in an interview with BuzzFeed News that Winston "reached over and he just grabbed my crotch" and kept his hand there for "three to five seconds." According to the report, he removed his hand only when she looked up in shock and said β€˜What’s up with that?"

Apparently, she called an audible and Jameis had to change the play from a QB sneak to a hand-off.
Got to hand it to ... wait, no, err ... make that give him props. Jameis' behavior has improved. This time he's not accused of rape

AfriCane

What’s lost in all this is that Virginia came to play. The plays they called on offense were awesome, it kept our defense on their toes all game long. They countered our speed all game long. And that QB! Holy titty focking Christ! He’s from the state of Fl. How did we miss on him. Who said the pure pocket passer was done. I’ll take him over those 2 California effers.
And their defense was preety stout.
Virginia teams r the opposite of Florida teams. They don’t have speed. But they have big hogs. Just tell u speed wins u champioships.
To recap; the canes are for real. A championship season comes with all types of game. And if u want the hardware, u got to adjust to win them all.

Great win today! Crowd showed up and it was a great atmosphere. VA's QB was very accurate, made his throws-I think at one point he was 18 of 19. So a parallel to this season?

SJMPARMAN

Any of u guys around and watching the 83 season? How does that season thru 10 games compare to this one? Was it as unexpected to find us in the NC hunt as it is now?

1983 was a season of close games. Really close. But the defense was stout if not dominating at times. But the offense was conservative to an extent. We had a really good running game with Albert Bentley and a bruiser in Speedy Neal.
Kosar was a freshman and played like it at times. The similarity is that both teams had an incredible will to win.

What Rosier has done this year is not to be under appreciated. His running and throwing have been special. The defense this year is really unbelievable. 19 takeaways in 5 games has to be a Hurricanes record. This season has been as much fun as I can remember since the early 1990's. Any year we embarrass the Irish will always be special but these guys are fun to watch on both sides of the ball.

I don't know but it wouldn't surprise me. In 1983, the elephant in the room was Nebraska. They were thought to be the team of the century. But Schnellenberger was a really confident coach and they slayed them. This year, while not the team of the century, the Alabama program has that reputation and an elephant as a mascot. I think this team could beat them but the defense has to play like the previous two weeks and not like today.

McIntosh & Jaquan Co-MVP.

Rosier would also get votes, if he wasnt both one of the key reasons we play well and struggle.

Dude on a Pale Horse

Defensive coordinator Manny Diaz made a specific playcall with Johnson in mind.

"The quarterback was doing a great job moving out of the pocket, and keeping his eyes down the field and delivering a perfect ball on the run," Johnson said. "The defense that was called, we were able to corral him and keep him in the pocket and disguise to make it seem like something was open, and that's what we did. Once he threw it, I was able to break underneath the route."

Dude on a Pale Horse

Here's a new goal for 2018,

Bama's offense plays to our strengths. We would crush them.

My worry is our offense against their d.

83 Was very different. Our offense was impressive with pro style set up, F*** none of us was really thinking that we had a shot at a national championship even after finishing the season and going into the Orange Bowl. The last game was a close call versus East Carolina, and the Orange Bowl classic happened in the evening after so many games had to go a certain way for it to be a potential championship match up that night. Number 2 Texas had 2 lose in the cotton bowl earlier in the day, number 3 Auburn had 2 either lose or look unimpressive, as occurred, in the sugar bowl, and Illinois that was flip flopped at 4 and 5, like the U was, also had 2 either lose or look unimpressive, and they were destroyed in the rose bowl. All this created a game for all the marbles versus the Nebraska team that was supposed 2 be the best of all time. there is no such team like that this season.

Posted this on the last blog, I'm not sure who the original author was but this is a team of destiny

Something to ponder:

1987 was the last year that the Miami Hurricanes defeated the Florida State Seminoles, Virginia Tech Hokies, and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame all in the same season. But let's take a slightly deeper look.

In 1987 the Miami Hurricanes were subjected to a 21 day delay between their first and second game due to a real hurricane. In 2017, Miami was also delayed 21 days between their first and second game, again due to a hurricane.

In 1987, Miami faced a hostile crowd on the road in Doak Campbell Stadium against their arch rival FSU. Miami eeked out a nail biter in the waning seconds of the fourth quarter. In 2017, Miami, again traveled to Doak Campbell as a road underdog and pulled out a last second miracle win against FSU.

In 1987, Miami survived a surprisingly scrappy Toledo team (with a D-Line anchored by Craig Kooligowski) who played the Hurricanes close for three quarters. In 2017, Toledo led the Hurricanes for part of the third quarter and it was only due to a 28 point explosion in the 4th that Miami finally put the Rockets away.

In 1987, Miami hosted the Virginia Tech Hokies for their Homecoming game. It was a battle, but in the end, the Hurricanes came away with the 27-13 victory. In 2017, we beat the Hokies 28-10. Oh yeah, and it was Homecoming.

In 1987, Miami hosted the highly touted Notre Dame Fighting Irish in Miami in prime time and absolutely obliterated them. 2017? Miami destroyed #3 Notre Dame 41-8 in ABC's Game of the Week.

In 1987 Miami defeated the Oklahoma Sooners to win the National Championship. 2017? TBD...

Some additional notes: Miami has 5 National Championships. All were won in odd numbered years; 1983, 1987, 1989, 1991, 2001. All were also won with a Republican in the White House; Reagan(x2), GHW Bush(x2), GW Bush (x1).

In addition I was 8 and my daughter is 8.

Things are lining up

1mg of Epi

This is from Lucane over at CIS. Says the things I've been saying, but more intelligently: https://www.canesinsight.com/thread/post-game-stadium-view/126711

Coach Richt called what seemed like a scrimmage today. We ran a limited set of plays from limited formations. We did showcase our vaunted jumbo package today with the fullback and extra TE coming in. Ha. Not. A. Fan. But, I understand why Richt has to put it on film and hopefully it pays a dividend in a key moment in the ACCCG. The middle of the field was there for the taking. Again. We took the minimum we needed from it. I'll mention it below in the player memories.

Coach Diaz confuses the heck out of me in these games. I think he'd have to admit this was the worst performance so far. We've already shown a lot of our stuff. No real reason to go back to Toledo sets with 3 LBs and a bunch of zone. I openly wonder if there's some method to this madness of playing certain guys in really, really uncomfortable spots. Are we trying to practice or is this just a "IDGAF" when we play teams who are presumably "lesser?" This one got a little too close for comfort.

His defense allowed one of its highest Yards/Play (if not the highest; haven't checked) for the year at 6.6! The 3rd down conversions were at about 31%, so not bad, but could've been better. In the second half, we allowed something like 130 yards total on 33 plays, which was less than 4 yards per play. What? That tells you some weird stuff.

Rosier is Rosier. Balls on Balls on Balls in terms of mentality, but we have to deal with inaccurate balls, too. He wasn't necessarily helped, as noted on another thread and alluded to above. He's seemingly far more comfortable in 4-5WR looks where his reads get very simple when teams essentially spread out and match up. We barely went there today.

Homer is Homer. He gets better as the game goes and I'd love to see his YAContact. The inside zone was NOT there for the majority of the game, as UVA prepared well. We went to it and the sweep anyway. Didn't see the great counter action we showed against ND. Again, I wonder about these things. It's already on tape. Are we limiting stuff intentionally?

Richards is Sophomore Richards so far instead of True Frosh Richards. He must still be hobbled. There are moments he trots off the field and we see Cager. I get coaches feel they need to get everyone reps and perhaps felt they could always come back in this game. But, it'd have been nice to see him getting back into form and allowing us to dominate from early on. Oh well. We need him at his best badly because of what he can do for the rest of the offense.

Berrios is now everything we wanted out of our slot. The guy has just made big play after big play. As I said in another thread, he could have probably had a career day today. He was breaking open on multiple vertical routes from the slot. There was the obvious miss on Rosier's attempt going toward the WEZ, but there were others where Berrios was open and he didn't get the target. I still would like to see more option routes for Berrios as we did in a critical instance against FSU earlier in the year. It'd make some things easier for Rosier.

Same here, but the Gators are SO bad, they'll lose this game by 20.

What TF is wrong w u guys?? We don't "pull for the turds". Ever. Shit we don't even "pull for the turds if they're playing ISIS university".

No. We will hope FSU loses. We will NOT "pull for the turds".

Not just a fan.. dude is a sports talk host. I tweeted him a friendly reminder that he needs to eat poo if we get to 10. He replied that VT was gonna beat us, and we wouidnt get to 10. After the VT win I of course sent him a nice hello.

And then he blocked me.

They need to play in the cold. It looks like it will be cold in rainy in Charlotte that weekend, so it won't be a complete shock.
