That's an interesting question. Could make an argument either way, just based on what we see on the field. But My answer: I don't care.

The Canes are undefeated, dominating and the IT team in cfb years ahead of schedule.

In honor of Coach Mark Richt Im going to go knock down a few drinks and spit some game at some chicks.

Go Canes!

Just realized FSU-UF is tomorrow.

Is the kickoff at 8 a.m.? Hope it's at noon at least so as many recruits as possible can see a fiasco.

2nd best thing for our recruiting is when either of those dumpster fires take the field.

True I was just being sarcastic about Kaaya.

WW thinks nothing good could have happened if he had returned.

Posted by: Go Canes! | November 12, 2017 at 08:21 PM

Oh ok. My bad.

Kaaya was flawed but it kills me to see players underachieve and maligned for being forced to play outside of their skill sets when they do other things very well.

Coaches have to coach the guys they have and recognize their skills quickly.

CMR has put it together.

I think he will stick with this approach and start a run rivaling what Saban has done.

Posted by: TruCane81 | November 12, 2017 at 07:58 PM

Sure it does.

Ask yourself this. The last two seasons which direction have we gone offensively as the season progressed?

He's basically started from scratch his first two years here and we've done nothing but get way, way better as each has gone on.

Imo that's knowledge and trust leading to execution as experience levels grow.

Next year with returning starters at QB, WR and RB and four All Americans coming in at RB and TE we will be even better.

TruCane81

No way this happens if Kaaya had stayed for his senior season.

Posted by: Go Canes! | November 12, 2017 at 07:46 PM

I disagree.

Let Kaaya run Pitt game offense from there out and you would have a completely different view of him.

Malik has more poise and mobility, so he looks better in CMRs offenese.

Kaaya needed neither.

He was an ASSASIN in west coast quick throw concepts and Richt SEVERELY misused him.

This year should have been last year too.

He did Malik similarly early on but seems to have seen the light.

Im glad he has. Its been a fun ride.

Posted by: Go Canes! | November 12, 2017 at 07:45 PM

Those guys stepped up big. Thats why we are DOMINATING.

I like the wrinkles, but thats not what impresses me with CMR.

If you noticed against Syracuse, we came out with a deliberate short passing attack, marched the field and took the lead.

Malik struggled and the offense stalled periodically but that missing strategy gave us control of the game early and the win was never really in doubt.

Trust aint got shit to do with 5 yard passes Go.

It was gameplanning and strategy that was the problem.

Alter the strategy to a better fit, and now even young players can execute more consistently.

Go Canes!

There's no come on about it.

Homer, Thomas, Rosier, Dee Jay, Donaldson, Harley and Cager were either on the bench, injured or in high school last year.

Then we lost Walton and Richards to injury.

No way you'll convince me these players were where they are now when the season started.

I think he gives them what he thought they could handle.

Don't you think introducing new wrinkles as the season has progressed is more a result of experience and trust than CMR suddenly knowing what he's doing or being "more agressive"?

BigWindyCane1

Per ESPN:
Miami is the first FBS team since Rutgers in 2011 to force at least four turnovers in four straight games, and now boasts a Power 5-best plus-15 turnover margin. All four of Notre Dame's turnovers came against a standard four-man pass rush. (ESPN Stats & Info)

Amazing!

TruCane81

f Brad had come back, we would have been more consistant earlier and probably wouldnt have struggled to beat GT, FSU, Syracuse, UNC, etc. Look at every position on this football team and you'll see that every single player has improved by a bunch. There is no reason to believe that Brad wouldnt have also, because in fact he was improving greatly at the end of last year. IMO if he came back, & Walton had stayed healthy, we would have two candidates for the Heisman trophy and Richards would have crazy stats. But... Brad made a huge mistake leaving for the NFL, so we move forward.

I dont know man.

Soon as we started hitting that little stop route to Herndon consistently underneath, everything else consistently settled in..

We all knew this was the case.

Those short easy throws keep us on schedule and open the run game and deep game we love so much.

Richt was allowing Brad and Malik to make too many decisions reading deep to short with five step drop.

Our short passing game most of Richts tenure was bubbles and check downs.

Sticking with short quick passes to the middle even when Malik was off is paying huge dividends and we called for it since last years losing streak.

The versatility and simplicity is allowing guys to gain confidence turning short gains into long ones.

Richt's philosophy and system were always good but needed better set up for the skill sets of these players.

He starts doing it and all of a sudden we look like the best team in cfb when people said we are still 2 years away?

Cmon Go.......

Poor execution is ALWAYS due to poor coaching in some area.

I am harsh but fair.

CMR has earned my utmost respect and praise.

NativeCane---I remember years ago, my mom and I were driving home from my uncles farm. No radio reception hardly in the car. We drove and drove for miles in so many different direction, just to hear the Canes game!!
My mom passed in 2005, so it was before that, and it was a crucial, important game.
wish I remembered. Crazy fools driving in circles, just looking for radio reception!!
We were 20 miles from home, but must have driven over 100 miles, just to keep radio frequency alive!!
One of the best times with my mom.
And, watching the Canes kill ND was awesome for me too, being a grad. Memories of my dad, mom and me at the ORANGE BOWL watching the Canes battle ND. My dad felt so badly for me, since we lost badly. And dad was a NOTRE DAME graduate, undergrad and law school. How ironic.
He knew how much I loved my Canes. He never rubbed it in, even though he bled blue and gold, and was buried in a ND wool blanket.
Enough of me carrying on.

Excellent and of course accurate points.

Malik is having a fine year, but he is not the reason we are where we are.

We are winning as a team, but the main reason we are #2 right now is a scorching hot defense that's destroying opposing offenses

Sarasota 'cane

Anyone else notice that Richards doesn't ad-lib "in play" very well? He seems to need everything to line up perfectly before he can make a play. His body language also looks like he's blaming his teammates when he's not successful.

Meanwhile Cage makes a play work regardless of the hand he's dealt. I'm still a fan of Richards, but he's got to make his own lemonade even when he's just given a lemon.

BigWindyCane1

Herb, the Canes not only have two great starting DTs, but the backups are pretty impressive too. Even the freshman Ford looks real good. Then, the DEs are also deep and talented. Trent Harris and Demetrius Jackson lead the Canes in sacks on a team where they doesn't even start. Thomas and Joe Jackson are future NFL starters and Garvin, a third string freshman who plays sparingly, beats a future NFL LT for ND and gets a strip sack and fumble recovery.

Coach Kul is getting it done with recruiting and player development. NFL DL rosters will be filled with Canes for years to come. Coach Kul is making the Canes DL-U again

All the bitching I did on here for 5 years about the lack of quality DT'S is now in the past. The defense was solidified because we finally have 2 great ones in McIntosh and Norton. We have enough talent and coaching to put us over the top. Richt must have been waiting for the right time to unleash the offensive play book. This recruiting class won't be slipping like years past, where we start off good and start having all these Decomits. Got to keep the high level of play up and that's all that worries the Herb.

The mediocre coaching made us think we did not have guys anymore.

I NEVER believed that and past nfl drafts, along with these coaches, have proven that talent was not the problem.

We are MIAMI.

We DO NOT need top 5 recruiting classes.

Just good coaching and a roster of mostly state of Miami players.

One thing about the game last night. I wasn't at the game and watched from up North but we can't downplay how intimidating the atmosphere was for Notre Dame. They mentioned it in the game and I don't support it because these are still young men and in some cases kids but whovever hit their bus with the projectile and broke the window took ND's nerve.

If it's an in conference team during your career you might be nervous the first time in an evironment like that but next season you will be okay. Many of boys from Notre Dame never played in an environment like that. I guarantee it. These big stadiums on college campuses or huge but they are kind of nice and sanitized. Nothing like Hard Rock. I can't recall a team looking so scared. Their faces, body language.

The TE scream after they scored that TD made no sense unless you conisider he is over coming something internal. He was way too happy unless that was his way of proving he wasn't scared.

The crowd was definitely a factor last night.

Ever since Shannon took over I’ve Been of the opinion that we were 2 or 3 years away. That it would take four years of rite recruiting to challenge Alabama and Florida State. While we recruited well, we always would have setbacks...Shannon’s fall...Shapiro...Golden’s fall...that would reset things.

Posted by: Tonycane | November 12, 2017 at 02:52 PM

Go canes can vouch for this cause he and I have had this argument for years.. That we aren't years away from relevance, just a coach away. This has always been possible. The players and talent have been here. The coaching hasn't.

I'm not saying I expected Drubbings of top 3s... but I expected coastal ships and possible more from the get go.

This is my concern too dude. Look at what this team just had in their corner the last 2 games in the home crowd, nite game, big spotlight. That won't be there Saturday. It'll be real easy to come out sluggish.

1mg of Holy Shit Is This Real?

I see this current phase of the season comparable to the end of last season when after a mid-season slump, everything came together and the Canes went on a 5-0 roll.

I am really interested to see how we play and are coached, specifically on offense, the next couple of weeks. We have played down to our competition and have coached down to our competition. I hope CMR continues to use the same aggression and creativity that we saw with VT and yesterday. If we see that we should be fine and will end up with a great season.

Oh, and one more thing. I remember when their was a time this season, when Cane fan was critical of the play calling- myself included. Well, Coach Mark Richt was waiting for the opportune time to reach in his bag of magical PLAYS and what not.

Posted by: TheeMackJones | November 12, 2017 at 02:09 PM

ALL criticism of play calling was warranted and fair.

All it took was a little more variety and creativity. All long as teams cant key us due to predictability, we can move the ball on anyone.

The coaches are growing in their sheming of the easy, rhythm building plays and we are now controlling games from start to fininsh.

What do you know, those base concepts CMR loves are effective now.

This CMR will be ABSOLUTE HELL for college football.

BigWindyCane1

My LOF is really blowing up:

Miami Hurricanes junior S Jaquan Johnson was named Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week.

VfB_Cane

I think everybody underestimated the toll the chaotic start to the season took on the program. Things that usually get ironed out in the first weeks coming out of fall camp, especially the cupcake games up front, had to be adressed on the field.
Aftre all, we had to replace an entire secondary, lost our NFL-caliber TE and had to break in a new QB.

Plus, we had no bye week to regroup, which could have helped in finding ways to compensate for the loss of Walton and Richards not beeing 100%.

I think that explains why things looked rather shaky along the way.

Now the coaches have found the right personel groupings, the team has found its rhythm, and freshmen are ready to contribute on every single unit.

Well coached teams get better as the season moves along, and under the difficult circumstances this season, our coaching staff has done a phenomenal job.

It's amazing what CMR has done since arriving. With that win,

*the Canes are number 2 in the AP and Coaches polls, highest ranking since 2003,
* have the longest winning streak in college football at 14 games
*won its first Coastal Division outright and a trip to the ACC title game with two conference games left
*pretty much assured of the CF Playoff or the Orange Bowl as a consolation prize after the ACC championship game
*has played well enough in stretches to look like the best team in college football

TMJ, Miami is definitely peaking at the right time. It seems that with each game, more players are understanding their roles and how to make plays. The Canes team that played last night is better than the team that played GT and Syracuse. You could always see glimpses of greatness, but it hasn't really come together for a whole game until VT. I see this current phase of the season comparable to the end of last season when after a mid-season slump, everything came together and the Canes went on a 5-0 roll.

Make no mistakes, the Canes beat a very good, top ten football team last night. The Canes played the most dominant football game I have seen this season. Clemson is very concerned about this matchup.

That said, the Canes need to turn their focus to Virginia. UVA is a tough team. Can't take them (or any ACC opponents) lightly.

I am really interested to see how we play and are coached, specifically on offense, the next couple of weeks. We have played down to our competition and have coached down to our competition. I hope CMR continues to use the same aggression and creativity that we saw with VT and yesterday. If we see that we should be fine and will end up with a great season.

I just want to say that I saw something last night that supports what I've said in the past. When Miami is great, its more than Xs & Os, its pressure and pressure shows itself when a team realizes it needs to make a play. When our D is fast and physical, TEs drop easy first down catches when they are wide open. That pressure starts to build and eventually you have Nebraska CBs slipping on the field because in the back of their minds they know that they are covering Andre Johnson, and they cant afford to slip. Miami is doing that now. Other teams are looking shook, they are pressing, they are making mistakes for no reason.

Game MVPs:

Braxton Berrios: Early on let the world know that we know what you say about us and we dont care. Who showed his teammates how to politely rub it in their faces.

Coach Searles: We all just gonna shut the f*ck up now.

Coach Richt: We all just gonna shut the f*ck up now.

Coach Diaz: What can I say, you should win the Briles Award.

Go Canes!!

This video is the only one I’ve seen that comes remotely close to showing how unbelievably loud it was there last night:

Right on, baby! Now I'm waiting for a ' three of a kind in ' DUECES. ' hUh. A No. 2 in the poll which matters the most- CFP! Nevertheless, I'll settle for Miami being No. 3 in the third version of the college football playoff poll.

My feeble prediction come Tuesday night-

No. 1 Alabama

No. 2 Oklahoma

No. 3. Miami

No. 4 Clemson
