Back in the late 1980's a game between Notre Dame and Miami was framed by many as Catholics versus Convicts.
Well, a lot has changed since then and we are well aware that the University of Miami would love to see those old images die away, but for the sake of argument we will return to those glory days and brief but very joyful journey down memory lane.
Fast forward to 2017 when many of the biased talking heads in the media had openly and proudly denied that the Convicts would have any remote chance at defeating the heavily favored Catholics in their much anticipated match-up.
Then the clear and irrefutable evidence was shown to a National television audience in prime time. As a result, after the game the Convicts were found guilty beyond any reasonable doubt. The evidence clearly showed that the Convicts murdered the Catholics by a score of 41-8.
And yes, let there be no doubt that it was a complete and total slaughter.
It started when the the team arrived at the stadium. It was bedlam, it was crazy and it was loud. In my tailgating career I have been to many "Hurricane Walks" but none was ever like this one. And it was not even close.
From the time that UM WR Braxton Berrios became an instant Hurricane legend for slowly shuffling off of the field with his hands behind his back in the "Convict Position" after the first touchdown reception, this game was over.
The Hurricanes would be found guilty as charged for killing any chances the (Non) Fighting Irish had on this concert-like night at Hard Rock Stadium. It was better than a live performance by The Scorpions (Rock You Like a Hurricane) and AC/DC (Hell's Bells) and even old Billy Joel (Only The Good Die Young) combined in front of a sold out and crunked up crowd at The Rock.
Trust me when I tell you that this was the largest and most amazing crowd making the loudest noise for any game since "The Old Lady" (read: Orange Bowl) was laid to rest. It seems that a long twelve years of mediocrity had built up in Miami fans like a dam just waiting to burst. And burst it did as the cheers roared throughout the stadium like flood waters.
It was like a resurrection had taken place. The energy, emotion and electricity from the stadium was so reminiscent of the Orange Bowl that it could power the City of Miami for a few days and a few National Championships to follow.
The bond between this team, its coaches, and the City and its fans is once again intact. If UM Head Coach Mark Richt does this right it could be the beginning of a long, beautiful and winning relationship. And that would be exactly what this fan base, and this City, has been patiently waiting for.
And the thought of that is very comforting to Miami fans and scary as hell to the rest of college football. We really like that. Yeah, we like that a lot.
Butch would be doing a great job at The U also, but who cares...
I remember I had Richt ranked pretty high on my list for coaches that would do well at Miami and some people didnt like that at all. Richt is a lot like Pete Carroll to me, just super easy going but also has a mission. He's perfect for us right now.

I was listening to Joe Rose yesterday, he said no way we would be where we're at right now if Kaaya was our QB. He said the RPO gives Miami a whole new element to their offense!

Agree & disagree.
I think we'd be where we are but different. Kaaya at the end of last year was pretty much unstoppable. He was making quick & sharp throws. Again, everyone on this team has gotten so much better and theres no reason to think Kaaya wouldnt have also. That said, I hope we never go back to the stationary pocket QB. I love that we can run the RPO as another way to attack the defense.

^^^ I think Brad would have been worth a TD every game we played early up until maybe the last game we played. We really couldnt have played better than we did against ND.

I wanted Butch. But the staff that CMR has put together is doing an incredible job and the players are buying what they are selling. No complaints from me. BTW, Butch is doing really well at FIU - 6-2 so I am happy for him.

We are young, real young! Carter will step in place for Johnson next year. I expect Willis to be back and ready to go to replace Norton and McIntosh. Our DT should be fine with Bethal, Willis, Ford, and DJ Johnson....Am I missing someone?
Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | November 14, 2017 at 11:40 AM
We have 10 True Freshman that have gotten significant playing time which is huge!

I wanted Butch too, but I really didn't know anything about CMR.
My bad, my fault. CMR has put together an absolutely amazing team, staff, etc. et.. Who would have thunk we would be in the cat birds seat, ready to pounce. Horray Twittie Bird!!

Next year's DL,
Jackson, Willis, Bethel, Garvin.
Johnson, Ford, Silvera, Rousseau(?).
Id still like to see another two DL in the #Storm18 class. Especially since Rousseau might be a LB.

Chatfield is a Tyriq McCord type of DE & Briggs would be a DT at Miami, he could develop into the next McIntosh.

I wanted Butch more than Richt when Golden got fired, but I was wrong and it doesn't have anything to do with success on the field. Last season Coach Richt had to suspend 3 marquee players for accepting illegal benefits. He self-reported the infraction, got out in front of it, and prevented a serious NCAA violation while UM was still on probation. He put the program ahead of his own success.
I'm not sure how Butch would've handled that. That's not to say that Butch would've done something wrong, I just don't know what he would've done. I don't have to guess what Mark Richt will do when a booster or Adidas comes around with a briefcase full of money, and boosters and Adidas don't have to guess what Mark Richt will do in these situations.
We finally have a coach that is gonna "ride or die" with UM until the end of his career. UM is finally built to last. I wish Butch the best except on the recruiting trail where I hope he fails miserably where UM is involved. Butch is merely "interviewing" for his next job anyways. He's a wasted talent at a non-playoff contender. I wish him the best, but Miami made the right choice by a long shot.
Go 'canes!!

My how times have changed. All of the sudden Espn loves us and even that Bama loving Finebaum is giving us love. The true team everyone loves to hate. They changed the rule book because of us and our various celebratory ways but they ain't a dam thing they can do about the Turnover Chain. It's the talk of the nation and no one celebrates better than us. We ain't back though until we finish this thing out. The only school that gives me a like cause for concern is Oklahoma and it's not because of their Dee, it's because of Mayfield. U might say The Herb is getting ahead of himself by thinking this way and I say he'll no, because no way we get beat if we play like we did the last 2 weeks. We've all seen this before, when the defense plays like that we ain't losing! We got a sniff of Alpo but we want steak now!
Recruiting looks good and should pick up more steam, with several SEC teams looking for coaches and even heard Jumbo will be courted heavily by Tex. A&M. Hope so.
Dam The Herb's so excited I can't shut up and already have tix for ACC Ship game. Talked so much trash and did the Ric Flair strut so much got booted of my house my gal. She had the audacity to say I was obnoxious!

Just Coach Richt's interview with the media, and I'll tell you at the risk of sounding like a homer, the way that man conducts himself and manages his program, there's no one else I'd rather have in charge of my program. 12-0 or 0-12 from an AD's perspective he is an absolutely professional and positive.
