Miami will be back when certain conditions are met.

In no specific order.

1) Innovative offense that maximizes our natural advantages, SPEED. (Spread O)

2) Getting all of the elite talent to stay home. This means every year getting all of the best WRs, RBs, OL, DL, LBs, DBs that Miami has to offer. All of them.

3) An aggressive defense that maximizes our natural advantages, SPEED.

4) A fun atmosphere that generates the buzz we need to fill Hard Rock with casual fans on games we host recruits.

I do think we should have a program for potential coaches also. We should invest in a guy like Dorsey if he is serious about coaching and not just a dude collecting a paycheck. We should ask him what role he'd like to have at Miami and send him somewhere to get that experience, it may pay off down the road like Scott Frost is for Nebraska.

His Royal Dudeness

^^^ To do all these things you need a HC and admin that sees the bigger picture and makes the right organizational moves.

Plus, a healthy Richards, Pope, Lingard, Jordan, Davis, Mallory and the development of Thomas and Perry will give the Canes an explosive offense

Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | January 09, 2018 at 09:24 PM

But only if we find a way to USE THEM.

The use of the TE this past season was CRIMINAL.

The refusal to throw over the middle was IGNORANT.

The failure tom use our speed was NEGLIGENT.

Need an OC, a new offense and creative play calling. When the fans in the stands are calling the plays based on formation before they even begin it is BAD.

Stockpiling talent is good.

Using it wisely and correctly is better.

Going to a very good QB coach in Chris Petersen.

CaneRock

Richt's predecessor (Jim Donnan) was 40-19, so Richt didn't exactly take over a totally downtrodden UGA program.

Richt inherited a team with David Greene, Musa Smith, Randy McMichael, Ben Watson, & Terrence Edwards...that offense was similar to the one He inherited at UM...and they went 13-1 in Richt's 2nd year.

Paul Johnson...“When’s the last time the University of Georgia didn’t have a top-10 recruiting class? So Coach (Vince) Dooley was a great recruiter, Ray Goff was a great recruiter, Jim Donnan was a great recruiter, Mark Richt’s a great recruiter, Kirby Smart’s a great recruiter. Who was a bad one? Because I don’t remember them having a coach when they weren’t top 10.”

Basically Richt inherited a talented but underperforming team and made them better. But his window of time to win before Urban Meyer brought the Jun Horde to Florida and Alabama decided to put $1.1B into its football program.

BigWindyCane1

UGA has the #1 class so far, and the even picked up four recruits from our Miami-Dade high school backyard - three four star recruits in CB Divaad Wilson, CB Nadab Johnson and RB James Cook and one three star, Safety Rashad Wildgoose.

I think we will be fine at qb - perry and a better rosier as backup; tight end - Jordan and Irvin (Mallory will redshirt) and running back - lingard, homer deejay and Davis is an amazing backfield and we really need help on OL and DL; Mac and Norton made huge mistakes - lost themselves a lot of money by being ignorant and Leaving a year too early

McIntosh can show out at the combine and sneak in to the late first round at best. He will be a athletic freak. Most likely he goes in the 2nd or 3rd round at worst. I don't agree but I get him declaring early.

Norton... Wtf is he thinking? He may not get selected until the 6th or 7th round. Late 4th or 5th at best. Somebody needed to slap some sense into him before he signs with an agent. 😩

According to Barry Jackson, Norton was the one that was more definitive about his decision to go pro, and Norton was the one to sway McIntosh to turn pro. Interesting.

As per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald:

McINTOSH INSIGHT

On Tuesday morning, Richard McIntosh Sr. gave some insight into the process that resulted in his son, Richard Jr, bypassing his senior year at UM to turn pro. Some draftniks project him as a third-round pick.

Some newsy items from the phone conversation:

▪ McIntosh Sr. said Kendrick Norton decided to turn pro before Richard did and “once Norton made that decision, that helped convince Richard. I don’t know how they got to that.

“I don’t know what pushed Norton over the hump. If Norton had stayed, Richard would have. He felt it would be hard to come back without having Norton. I always felt it was going to be what one does the other one wanted to do, that’s how close they are.”

McIntosh is considered a better prospect than Norton. The two juniors are roommates and close friends.

▪ McIntosh Sr. said the feedback from the draft advisory board was that Richard wasn’t projected to be selected in the first two rounds, but “some said second, third. Majority said third. Some said third, fourth; one said fifth round.”

▪ He said Richt, defensive coordinator Manny Diaz and defensive line coach Craig Kuligowski — during their meeting with the McIntoshes on Saturday — said they were told he would likely be a third- or fourth-round pick, but that agents told the McIntosh family that he would be picked “late first or no later than the third round.”

▪ How did the three UM coaches try to sell McIntosh on returning for his senior season?

They cited research that players who get their degree “can sustain a longer career in the league,” McIntosh Sr. said.

“They talked about doing things to increase his production on the field and that was intriguing to him also. They talked about things that increase his play on the field, such as playing on third downs.”

And coaches tried “to convince them how special the defense could really be. And being there their senior year and having their degree — those things weighed on him.”

McIntosh Sr. said the UM coaches flew to Jacksonville to meet with Norton after their meeting with them.

▪ I asked McIntosh’s father if Richt & Co. mentioned questionable early-entrant decisions made last year by quarterback Brad Kaaya (sixth round) and running back Joe Yearby (undrafted and out of football).

McIntosh Sr. declined to say what names were mentioned on the negative side but said Richt “mentioned several players good and bad and the risks you take by doing it.”

He confirmed that tight end David Njoku, drafted by Cleveland in the first round, was one successful go-pro-early example that Richt mentioned.

Go Canes!!

I wonder what Norton was told.

Do some guys just have a certain amount of skill and talent that maybe he wouldn’t have benefited in the draft by staying another year? It’s not like he didn’t get enough plays or underperformed this year.

What if they told him rounds 4-6 this year or 3-5 next year if he blew up next year.

Don’t know, just curious.

CaneRock

I didn't say Richt was a middle of the road coach, I was responding to the post that said Richt took over a "terrible, terrible Georgia program".

My point was that UGA wasn't destitute for talent when Richt took over.

If I had to guess, UGA probably ran a 3 yards & a cloud of dust offense under Richt's predecessors...Richt came in with the FBO (Fast Break Offense), and the rest was history.

IDK about not throwing it to the fast guys, but I do think Richt needs to take advantage of Homers speed outta the backfield more often.

Like on that tunnel screen to Berrios...the better option would've been to Homer who had a LB on em'.

Also size mismatches, like on a slant to Berrios in the bowl game...the better option would've been to go to Langham who had a "mouse in the house" on His slant.

I dont think we are going to get that. I think what we need is UGA's OL, Bama's RBs, OkST's WRs and Clemson's QB to run this O.

His Royal Dudeness

First of all I want to heap a bunch of praise onto this coaching staff for what #Storm18 already is, outstanding. The talent level of these kids coming in are far and away better than the last staff. Richt's staff will be starting at a more advanced stage than Golden's or Shannon's staff ever did. That said, we can not let what we have done blind us to the work that is still needed to be done. Here is my opinion on the bare minimum needs we still have for NSD.

1 OT. Assuming everyone steps up, STL locks in at LT, Donaldson or Hillery at RT, Scaife can fill in for injury, we still need at least 1 guy to come in that can realistically start by 2020.

2 or 3 DTs. Assuming Ford is the man at 6'5" 310 and he's just a big bad bully, and that Willis is a dynamite rusher, and Nesta is a monster, and Bethel can spell Willis effectively, we still need a JC guy that can help Ford and another DT to develop like Briggs.

1 LB or 1 DE. Just depends on what Rousseau is. In fact because no one really knows what he is, its better to play it safe and get 1 of each.

1 DB. Probably a CB so Blades can move to FS. Whoever it is he needs to be able to play at Miami as at least a Mike Jackson type. We cant be taking projects anymore at DB, we are so close to having a really good unit.

If we cant close with these guys, it should be considered a battle lost, even if the overall 2018 war is a win.

2019
1 QB
2 RB
2 WR
2 OT
2 G or 1 G, 1 C
2 DE
2 DT
2 LB
2 CB
2 S

Bare Minimum. JMO.

I know it may seem like I am down on CMR with a few of my last statements, but that couldnt be further than the truth, Im just telling you why he simply cant be considered an elite coach yet. I cant tell you what a big deal it is just to be back at the table again with some of the SEC schools. Winning the Coastal is nothing to take lightly when you consider where weve been. Hard Rock going big on game nights again. Seriously CMR has been a huge shot of good drugs to the program.

One more thing we do not want Donaldson at T he is a guard. That was the problem this year with McDoormat playing out of postion just because he was our best lineman. What we need is two guys one at tackle and one at guard to replace the left side of the line. If that happens then you'll know what are offensive line is going to play like. It's imperative that two guys not ND and TSL have stepped up and allow the right side of the line maintain their continuity.

Posted by: Go Canes!! | January 10, 2018 at 08:27 AM

I wouidnt say we didn’t try to get the ball to the fast guys, but how we tried to do it was from a very limited number of plays. Also We too often threw 50/50s in the end zone to short guys. We never used motion to clear out a running or passing lane. We rarely used tempo as a strategy....

Where are you heading?

His Royal Dudeness

One thing I think Richt shares in common with elite ciaches is, his ability to get players on board with his way to do something and he does it by getting them to trust him. Saban & Carroll have this. When a player keeps messing up a drill by not using the right technique a bunch, its usually because he thinks his way is better, he doesnt trust the coach is trying to teach him a new habit that will make him a better player. This is the same thing that happens in work places around America really. Its the great managers/coaches that get people to buy into the process and the processes accountability. The next step to football greatness is being an expert in tried and true drills, while being open minded to new ideas. You cant demand that every one should grow if you yourself will not. I also think that great coaches run their practices down to the smallest details in methodical way. Every second has meaning, no waste, its a fluid machine that can answer any question that may arise, theres always an answer because every possible thing has been thought up, at least damned near close. I think so far, if you are really striving to create a football environment that I am describing, you will try to surround yourself with highly qualified people that know their jobs. The last stage, the Nick Saban stage if you will. You are now coacbhing coaches to manage your machine. They get it now, youve opened their eyes to the massive amount of effort it takes to make this thing right and now you are passing the gift down to the next guys.

His Royal Dudeness

^^^ Alot of typos sorry. I almost always post from my phone. Still I think that suns it up pretty well. That is in my opinion a great coaches checklist. That can be done at any school im America to varying degrees. I think there are 1 or 2 traits that Richt needa to work on, jmo.

His Royal Dudeness

Look at Saban's hire of Derrick Ansley. Im telling you its perfect. He brings in a guy that worked under Mark Stoops as a DB coach to coach his DBs and teach him his system. Now Ansley is off to CSU to coordinate a defense. If he does well, he'll be back to take the place of whoever Saban chooses to replace Pruitt who is off to Tennessee.

His Royal Dudeness

^^^ Thats the last stage, your system is so good, you just manage your managers.

His Royal Dudeness

If I were Miami, I'd be trying to get my former players into coaching under elite coaches, some within the program and some from the outside. Like right now, Dorsey needs to get himself on one of those great staffs where you develop as a coach. Maybe move himself into the OC role later. Then maybe Miami can have an experienced OC or future HC option.

His Royal Dudeness

Miami needs offensive help, help at LB and at ST for their 10th coach.

Lets say its an OC... we want to hire someone who has successfully coordinated an offense for about 3 years, and comes from a place where the HC grooms good coaches. Also we need to know Miami doesnt have the pull power to tale from the top programs, this leaves UGA, Bama, Ohio State, LSU, Auburn, USC, etc as teams we can not take from. We need to look for guys that come from places like Oklahoma State. Mike Yurcich please everyone! A Gundy graduate with Miami talent could be very high scoring.

LB & ST. Here we can poach a position coach from one of the big dogs that is looking to build his resume and add coordinator experience to his name, or we can go the OKST route again and poach a ST coordinator from a school like Kansas State where Sean Snyder may need to build his resume if he ever wants to be a HC.

Go Canes...true, and at times an absurd amount of their roster are JUCOs. It’s the biggest reason they were able to dominate us in 2012 - we had a high amount of freshmen playing, and they had a high amount of 22 and 23 year olds who had three to to four years of strength and conditioning under them.

Who are we gonna be though? The team that gets JUCOs and builds up 3 stars or the team that gets talented 4s and 5s that go pro early. Neither is an excuse for poor ST play. We must have a plan for excellent ST play and it cant be just the players striving for perferection there. The coaches have a duty to perfect their systems for the athletes they recruit. No wasted time, everything planned out to the smallest detail then executed daily with maximum effort.

We need more than 1 DE to come in. Lost Harris, Thomas, and Johnson. Garvin and the Jackson boys left, unless I’m forgetting someone. Stated many times we need more than 2 Dt’s This cycle. Campbell is a must get as we need good corners. We have plenty safety types.
Offensively we need tackles. Richt says he wants to add 7 to 8 more players and i’m Wondering where they are coming from aside from Silvera 50-50 guys like Briggs, Campbell and Chat the DE.
We must build depth and quality of talent. If we bring in 25 then at least 16 need to be 4 star or better. Bama already losing 5 JR.S and will just replace them with more 4 and 5 star players, we couldn’t stand those kind of losses. We are still replacing 3 stars with 3 stars.

Randy Russell Career Over!!

His Royal Dudeness

Wow, former #Storm18 recruit Randy Russell's career is over. I guess Florida found some serious condition in him.

Go Canes!!

Two DTs and we will be fine as long as Willis doesn't end up crapping out. DT has to be the toughest position to recruit for, everyone needs one and there aren't enough good ones to go around.

We already have Ford, WIllis and Bethel. We'll be getting one the best in the country in Silvera and one of the tops in the stat in Briggs.

Can't do anything about the fact DJ decided to bail and Norton/McIntosh both left early.

And as far as replacing 3 stars with 3 Stars, that's simply not true.

We have 19 signees and 14 are ESPN 300 4 star players. That's with DJ Ivey and Scaife, who was dominant as you can get in the Army game, listed as 3 Stars, which is ridiculous.

All Im saying is we will never beat Bama trying to be Bama. Theyve got a ten year head start and several million more dollars. We have to adopt their way of being obsessive about every little detail, while being different on the field, going for a different kind of athlete is some ways. Once we can recruit with those guys, then we can bring in the 6'3" 315 five star DT from TX and the 6'5" 325 five star DT from GA to play in our defense.

Go Canes!!

Also, I know stars matter, but remember RJ McIntosh, our best DT, was a 3 Star player.

So were Garvin and Ford in a bunch of recruiting sites.
