Imo he, like Garvin would have been a Top 100 player the moment he committed to Bama, Michigan or Ohio State.

Think he’s going to be a very good one.

WWIN

Kirby wasn't too Smart last night... too much Chubb not enough Sony!

TonyCane

I don’t have time to run the what-if story in detail, but here is what we risked this year in starting Perry from day 1

- Perry does not know the playback as well as Rozier or Sherrifs. We have to simplify the offense to start
- Perry lacks a year in a college strength and conditioning program, and his slight frame makes him an injury risk
- Perry gets injured in the FSU game, leaving us to start Evan Sherrifs or Vase Weldon the rest of the season...because Rozier transferred out in August.
- Miami goes 7-5 for the season, and takes a hit in recruiting. It does not make the ACC title game

Not going with Perry from the getgo allowed Richt the time to get him more up to speed and keep Rozier in-house. It preserved flexibility so that if Perry showed rapid improvement and Rozier flames out, he could make the switch. However Rozier played relatively well until the later quarter of the season, so there was no pressing need to make th switch. And by the time it did become a viable question, you then had to weigh the benefits of burning Perry’s redshirt for the ACC title game. Richt May have calculated that without Richards, Herndon, and Walton available that the odds were against them making a NC run, and that it made more sense to keep Perry grounded.

According to Ariz there is no contact between coach Kul and Chatman. Does coach know this kid has decommitted from Tennessee?

His Royal Dudeness

I know I keep saying this but we need Jon Ford to be the man next year.

His Royal Dudeness

Does anyone know the latest on DT Jamarcus Chatman? I know we wanted him early on but I think he committed to an SEC school, but last I saw on Rivals hes not committed to anyone right now. He's a real physical player that could add enough good weight by September. With Nesta and Briggs, that makes a nice little DT class.

Canes finish #13 in the final rankings, highest since 2004.

Somehow behind Notre Dame, of course.

No way Miami is a #5 team going into next year. I would put them at 10-15.

Perry was a late enrollee. Ever think he never had grasp of the playbook? Now if he was an early enrollee and was their for the spring then there is no doubt he would of got significant playing time, if not the starting job.

And unless the assumption is that CMR is a better coach than Saban in many ways, we can dream on if we think that we will not only compete, but beat Bama in any years to come while trying to play their game against their resources. We have to do thing different and somehow better.

Go Canes!!

From Twitter:

A few years ago Nick Saban told me this about depth and making it to the playoff: "It factors into getting to this point in the season. If you don’t have quality depth on your team, maybe you can’t make it to this point in the season. You have to be fortunate..."

How's this for depth:
LT Jonah Williams goes down, replace him w the No. 8 overall prospect in his class
You replace your starting QB w the No. 1 ranked dual-threat QB in his class, 57 overall
Need a boost in the run game so you put in your 4th stringer, No. 11 overall prospect

His Royal Dudeness

^^^ And can recruit DTs.

His Royal Dudeness

10th coach needs to be an OC that can coach ST & LBs also.

His Royal Dudeness

UGA defense totally failed on that last Seattle call. Credit to Tau who looked the S off, but I bet you he never knew that WR was sooooo open after the CB just let the kid go.

His Royal Dudeness

Tau was extrememly lucky that his bad pass into the endzone came up in Ridley's hands. That ball was being thrown to another player but Ridley basically picked it off.

WWIN

Satan playing Tau wasn't a tough decision for him to make... it was the easiest!

When did I ever say this? But no... I'll never sh*t on a man that manned up and did the best he could do to help give us one of our best seasons in 15yrs. He has my respect

Go Canes!!

One more thing about last night's game.

It's really amazing how that offense could go from so abysmal to lights out in one half.

Same OC, same QB coach, same type of plays drawn up.

But man what a difference when there is a guy under center who can execute all aspects of it.

Two seasons ago we could throw but our QB was completely immobile. This year our QB was very below average throwing the ball but could make plays with his legs.

Really hope Perry can be the two headed monster we've been looking for.

86Cane

Except for Scott Frost of course who would have won last night's game easily.

UCF finished #6 in the final AP poll, and the Canes finish #13, behind #11 Notre Dame. But UCF did receive 4 first place votes.

Frankly, I would like to see UCF play Alabama to settle this controversy once and for all on the field - a bunch of 2-3 star players playing against the 4-5 star players. I think it would be a very interesting game, but college football politics will never let that happen.

nemo2002

Another resounding victory for Bama and stellar recruiting.

Said all week he barely got by Notre Dame, got blown out by more than three touchdowns by Auburn, got scorched by Oklahoma's offense who later choked away a lead they never should have, then blew a two TD lead to Bama and were lucky to even get to OT.

They were a solid Top 10 team but were flawed just like everyone else in college football.

Some people were making it seem like Smart took Richt's .500 team and turned them into the 2001 Canes.

As far as burning Perry's redshirt goes, the kid who played last night had already appeared in seven games this season. There's no comparison, just like there's no comparing Saban benching their starter for him the way RIcht did then changed his mind.

Tagovalloa was a 5 Star and the consensus overall #1 dual threat QB in the country. Comparing him to Evan Sherreffs is pretty absurd.

Again, another difference between us and the big boys. Bench a 4 Star to bring in a 5 Star. Richt's tenure is in it's infancy, only one full cycle recruiting. It takes time to build a champion from a good but thin team.

Except for Scott Frost of course who would have won last night's game easily.

NativeCane

guess UGA is going to blame Mark Richt for not winning the big game again right lol

😂😂😂😂

BigWindyCane1

I had a feeling that Saban would pull the trigger and put Tua in. Tua had plenty of reps during Alabama blowout wins and was the better passer. Tua was ready, and UGA wasn’t fully prepared for a change in QBs after halftime.

It will be interesting to see how Saban handles his newly created QB controversy in the spring and fall. Frankly, I am not impressed by Hurts or Tua. I think the Perry can be better, because he can run and throw. Perry has the physical tools, and he has gained weight this season under the S&C program. Perry needs to understand the playbook and how to read defenses, which is the most difficult part. Williams will push him, but Williams has the physical tools but Perry has a little more. It will be a great competition and don’t count out Weldon.

It’s tempting to think perry should’ve played this year, but he def wasn’t physically ready. Whatever other conclusions u come too, ya gotta know that he’s have been dead today if he played with our line.

HillViewCane

A lot of people are saying we should have played Perry but what if he just didn't look better? Honestly Rosier did pretty much what we were reading he was doing in practice before the season started. 3 touchdowns 2 interceptions etc.

I remembered reading the reports and thinking he wouldn't be the starter because of that but Richt thought he was the best.

TonyCane

Royal...until we become “cool” and recruit at a top 5 level for four consecutive years we need more innovation on both sides of the field. That’s how Oregon rose to prominence. And we need to get lucky and secure that “6 Star” program elevating talent. A Vince Young. A Lamar Jackson. That’s how you beat an Alabama.

Because in the short term,..until there is public or student blowback at the unsustainable college football costs,or until Saban retires there is no way to beat a team that is 3 deep with 5 star players. Saban was brave and the greatest coach ever because he benched his five star quarterback in favor of a true freshman...who was a five star quarterback and the number one player at his position coming out of high school....and had played during the season. Richt was not daring enough for keeping his three star quarterback benched in favor of his two star quarterback who had hardly played...or for not burning the redshirt on his four star quarterback at the end of the season who had seen no game time at all.

orange 'n green in the vein

"If the new starting QB next year can play anything like the UCF QB played yesterday (after a slow start) he will make Mark look really good.

Posted by: 86Cane | January 02, 2018 at 11:00 AM "

So now is the time to suggest to you that the major problem with a football team that has a returning leader in TD's accounted for in a season and the coach who just called the offensive plays for that season lies somewhere else than those two places.

Yards gained per point scored on offense this year was an only ok 13.87. Great offenses are at the 10.0 yard per point mark in college in football, bad is around 20.0 and mediocre at around 15.0. That has to improve next year to a more efficient ratio.

Defensively a good defensive team has a yards per point average for a year of 20.0, a bad one near 10.0 and average in the 15.0 range, Miami was only 15.81 for the year, barely above average. Block a field goal for once or get a shank to fly wide and it would have edged up to a slightly above average number this year maybe. This must improve into the 17.5 or higher realm next season to turn the corner from just meeting meager expectations like this year to exceeding them to something to give any more attention to go going forward.

Saban is the MVP of this game. He benched a starter that was 25-2 and replaced him with a true frosh. Who else would do this?? NOBODY. That's why Saban is the greatest college coach...period.

His Royal Dudeness

If only Perry had started we would have beat Pitt probably.

His Royal Dudeness

USC had a plan to recruit with those guys. USC out-recruited everyone, because USC was cool. Then Oregon did it in their way. Miami is just starting to sniff out cool again. We need an offense that is cool, we need to stop kidding ourselves. As good as this class is, its only the bare minimum and weve been so far below this level of recruiting for 10 years. We need to kill this way of thinking we can pro style run and throw because we have better players... sure, better than GT, but not so much better than VT @home or FSU or Clemson or UNC when we have injuries. Miami needs to have a flashy offense and a fast defense. Cool.
