The University of Miami released its 2018 football schedule Wednesday, highlighted by a nationally televised, season-opening matchup with LSU, as well as six home games at Hard Rock Stadium.
The Hurricanes kick off the 2018 season on Sunday, Sept. 2, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, against the Tigers in the 2018 AdvoCare Classic – UM's first meeting with LSU since the 2005 Peach Bowl and the first regular season meeting between the two schools since 1988. The game will be televised on ABC at 7:30 p.m. ET. Miami's last visit to the Dallas area was its 1991 Cotton Bowl win over Texas.
Miami's home schedule includes non-conference games against FIU and Savannah State, as well as games against ACC rivals Duke, Florida State, North Carolina and Pittsburgh. The Hurricanes posted a 7-0 regular season mark at Hard Rock Stadium in 2017.
Miami enters the 2018 campaign following a strong 2017 season in which the Hurricanes posted a 10-3 record – UM's first 10-win season since 2003 – and won the ACC Coastal Division title for the first time in school history. Head coach Mark Richt was named ACC Coach of the Year and Walter Camp National Coach of the Year.
Unfortunately it ain't happening

As of right now I don't see it... but you know how things can change quickly with recruiting so there's still hope!
Hat's off to him for how well he's playing the game tho... I can't remember anybody playing it this close
Posted by: WWIN | January 19, 2018 at 12:31 AM
I like the way this sounds as per the PBP :
Only two of Miami’s opponents were rated in the final AP poll of the season (No. 18 LSU and No. 24 Virginia Tech). No one else received a vote. LSU was one of the teams hit hardest by the NFL Draft, losing six players including potential first-round running back Derrius Guice and defensive end Arden Key. Three of 11 starters return on offense.

I'll take things that dont matter for $2000 Alex.
Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | January 19, 2018 at 01:01 AM
You think we get any respect? Means we'll have to run the table
Posted by: WWIN | January 19, 2018 at 01:10 AM
They would have put Wisconsin in had they beat Ohio State and not Alabama. SoS means almost nothing, and certainly not anything a building program like ours should care about. Winning 10 games is goal a) the Coastal is b) and c) is putting together another amazing class before a bunch of people start sh*tting all over Richt for not having a Natty after year 3. Lets win the Coastal & beat FSU again, and then again after that. Lets not be afraid of busting our asses and paying our dues, just like our last title team did.
Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | January 19, 2018 at 01:20 AM
They say SoS all year long but at the end of the day, its best W/L records in the power 5 conferences, period.
Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | January 19, 2018 at 01:21 AM
Had we beaten Pitt, we would have been number 1 having beaten Notre Dame @home, VT @home and a bad FSU.

Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | January 19, 2018 at 01:20 AM
Wisconsin had ONE loss in their CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME... Alabama had ONE regular season loss and didn't make it to their conference championship game. So who went? The team with the better strength of schedule.
So... we'll have to run the table and can't afford to lose one... and if CMR sticks to his tradition of losing at least one game a year we'll be Wisconsin

Im not worried because it doesnt matter. We arent winning a title next year. We dont have the OL for it, we dont have the DTs for it yet, depth is an issue, we wont be able to beat Clemson yet imo. Natty isnt even on my mind. Just get better and perfect the rep.
Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | January 19, 2018 at 02:21 AM
We need 2 or 3 more classes as good as Storm18 just to ensure the Coastal every year. Id be a bit more optimistic if we sign the AH4, Briggs, another DT, an OT, Peters, another OT.
Honestly I hope we dont get any more offensive players unless they are tackles, but it lools like we are coming away empty there. Goss is off the board and NPF isnt realistic so far as Ive seen. Ezzard, while I like the kid is not a need and next year we recruit in Miami again, you know, WRsRus.
If we cant get the OTs we need, I think we should go all DL and grab some of those high potential 3* kids that can redshirt.

Go Canes,
Read my last post and answer it this time...
Posted by: CoCane | January 18, 2018 at 01:42 PM
Don’t follow UGA football but I guess Chubb best out Michel, which then asks the question do I think Lo is better than Sony.
And if Moreno and Gurley beat out two guys we’ve never heard of then were they just handed the job?
None of us know the answer to that, at least I don’t.
That’s why I said in the big picture the precedent of three straight freshmen going wild under CMR shows it’s very possible if not likely Lingard’s going to carry a giant load this year.
Posted by: Go Canes!! | January 19, 2018 at 08:02 AM
This is a crazy stat that threw me for a loop. Brad Kaaya was sacked 25 times in 2016. Malik Rosier was sacked 27 times in 2017.
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | January 18, 2018 at 06:08 PM
How is that possible? I was for for sure we took take less sacks with a mobile qb?
Posted by: 30CINCO | January 19, 2018 at 08:24 AM
Rosier runs around before being sacked. Kaaya just crumpled. Malik was able to avoid sacks and Brad couldn’t. Screwed with perceptions. My best guess. IMO when 3rd & 3 or less is legit running down is when we’ll have a “good enough” OL - not a great one but good enough. That hasn’t been the case in too long.
Posted by: DallasTX Cane | January 19, 2018 at 09:26 AM
^^^^^^^^^
These do not tie in together... we didn't have the same O-line for both years, didn't lose as many players to injuries.
Could just mean that Kaaya would have been sacked 30 times if he was here?

We beat all those teams this year and there’s no reason we shouldn’t next year as well.
Remember future games against FSU, Louisville and Clemson count against us in the standings even though they aren’t in our division.

I thought this was cool. Cam Davis will wear #21 to honor his high school teammate Randy Russell.

Wrong. I said to ensure it every year. Thats what we need so we never slip back down again. We win the Coastal 1 time in 11 years and think we can do it every year now? Lol, we only have 1 nose tackle and a handful of OTs. If our starting QB gets hurt can we win the Coastal? No, we need 2 to 3 more classes like Storm18.

Very cool. I saw Carol City play Northwestern a couple of times this season, including the FSHAA playoffs under the new playoff format at Traz. Lots of D-1 talent was on the field. Davis was bottled up, but it is clear that he is a very talented RB. He is a very intriguing player, and a very natural RB. I am curious to see how he develops once practice starts and he gets Brown's coaching.
If Homer, Dallas and Lingard aren't careful, Davis will sneak up on them. Competition at this RB position will make the Canes running game a lot more productive next season.
Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | January 19, 2018 at 12:35 PM
With Tito acting as the JC player we needed, the young DTs can slow cook.
1. *SR Willis
2. SO Ford
3. JR Bethel
4. SR Tito
5. *SO Martin
6. FR Nesta
7. FR Briggs
8. FR Chatman
If Chatman or Briggs redshirt that gives us a talented DT in our back pocket for a really good 2019 DT class. Weve got 1 committed already, we just need to focus our energy on signing him early and getting 1 more.
Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | January 19, 2018 at 12:45 PM
DT Tito Odenigbo - according to Illinois team website, 6-3, 310. He can play immediately. Illinois was 2-10 on the year, though. During the 2017 season, Odenigbo totaled 29 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss (which ranked tied for second on the team), one sack and two pass breakups. During his career, Odenigbo started five games and totaled 47 tackles and 8.5 tackles for loss. Originally from Ohio, he was a three-star recruit as a DE by ESPN.com, Rivals, Scout and 247Sports
For comparison, Norton, 6-3 and 312 pounds, had 26 tackles, with 6 1/2 tackles for loss, two sacks and a breakup and quarterback hurry.

Best case scenario for us is he redshirts like Burns, and then Brown snags us another *5 star next cycle. Keep that stable stocked up with young NFL talents.

Playable Coastal depth is there now I think. Nesta will play and hopefully does well. Need 2 more kids as we are recruiting for ACC titles now.
Posted by: His Royal Dudeness | January 19, 2018 at 12:52 PM
Let’s hope this grad transfer makes it 3 for 3 on guys who improved and contributed after they got here.
Posted by: Go Canes!! | January 19, 2018 at 12:58 PM
I think so. Kayaa was like David Carr in his last year here, meekly accepting if not anticipating the sack. Rozier’s scrambling ability at least prolonged plays. It would be interesting to see how many yards Kayaa gave up on sacks vs Rozier.
Regardless, this must get fixed.

I hate to add anything to this Kaaya v. Rosier debate, but I went to look up the stats in CFBSTATS.COM, and found some interesting stats on Rosier and Kaaya as passers:
Rosier - 2017
54%
3120 yards
131.05 passer rating
26 TDs
14 Ints.
Rosier 468 yards rushing and 5 rushing TDS, at 3.57 YPR.
Stats against power 5 conference teams and winning teams were much, much worse for Rosier.
Kaaya - 2016
62%
3532 yards
150.31 passer rating
27 TDs
7 Ints.
Stats against power 5 conference teams and winning teams were actually much better.
Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | January 19, 2018 at 02:36 PM
Of course, Kaaya had more weapons in Njoku, Richards and Walton, but the statistical differences between the two QBs is actually startling.

Grad transfers count towards the 25 now? That doesnt seem right. If it is then Miami only has 7 more spots available, assuming Nesta sticks, totaling 8.
1. Nesta
2. Briggs
3. Chatman
4. Chatfield
5. Peters
6. Campbell
7. Surtain Jr.

Not enough for bad coaches to win it. We need a lot more it seems. We grab 2 or 3 key injuries and its just a bunch of nothing. Keep the rosters young and full of Johnny 4*s and Redshirt kids. Our OL is a mess, but this class will address the interior in a couple of years. Still need to address tackles.

Campbell & Surtain are Miami guys, period. If Rumph doesnt sign them, he will catch heat, how much of it he deserves I dont know. All of this Rumph business resolves itself if the Canes keep winning and Rumph produces draft picks. Jackson will get drafted, Young might get drafted... if Bandy is a high 2nd rounder and Frierson a 1st, he can have the ball rolling on 5* local kids. That said, Im not counting Surtain or Campbell out yet. We shall see.
