I guess most of U are still on the Duggins bandwagon! I mean Langham went from no catches to 11 catches and I hope he caught 11 passes after 4 years and Berrios rose from the ashes from his jr year when Doogie was there as well to our one and only dependable receiver.

Herb:

Think dent was originally a verbal to the U prior to changing to FSU...

JCane

Yup. Just checked. Vetbaled to us in the summer, the next March he decommits/changes to FSU, and btw is in his 3rd h.s. already as a guy who isn't done til 2019. Sounds like a guy who has no problems with changing commitments for the right reasons..

Go Canes!!

Always felt guys who overplay the recruiting game usually end up being inferior players over the long haul to guys who go through the process, commit and go about their business.

Probably not true, but seems like it to me.

Coke is right... I don't see Lingard starting over Homer or Dallas. If anything Dallas will start

I agree. It sure does seem like the flame outs and busts are the ones who had the drama in their recruitment.

Lingard will get PT, but I don't see Him beating out Homer & possibly Dallas.

Was not impressed with Homer at all. He will probably get some playing time but cant see him being the main workhorse.

Had to make my quarterly tax payment. Went online and was wtf??

They reversed it sometime in the night thankfully.

It really is awesome to see our coaches pounding the recruiting trail for 2019 kids as other schools are scranlbing to fill this year's class.

Think this is why we've had a such a small number of guys commit to us early then flip.

CoCane

But you're impressed with a RB (Lingard) that doesn't have 1 carry in college football yet?

Homer was thrust into a starting role and put up just under 1,000 yards. Only starting 9 games. Oh yeah, he was just a soph.

He won't bigger, faster or better huh? 😩

Lawd have mercy...

NativeCane

GC....wait til they turn a 30,000 payment into a 300,000 payment....YOW!!!

BigWindyCane1

I agree with Soup that Lingard can start.

If Lingard is not starting against LSU, he might be starting by mid-season. The reason I say this is because seniority doesn't mean as much to this coaching staff as it did for Al Golden. When CMR and Brown came in, they had Joseph Yearby who was a very good 1,000 rusher, but Walton was younger, more talented and a better RB so they started Walton.

When Walton got hurt, Homer and Dallas filled in nicely, but they are as good as Walton. Walton was a difference-maker at the RB position. IMO, Walton would have been a Heisman candidate had he stayed healthy, but we can debate hypotheticals all day.

Lingard has that special talent, but he still has to learn the position. CMR and Brown will not let him sit on the bench if he is a difference-maker at the RB position. RB is the position where freshman can play. Just take a look at the Canes last opponent, Wisconsin. If these coaches realize that they have a special talent that can learn the position, they will play him.

One thing the Canes should have this upcoming season that the Canes did not have this past season is competition at the RB position.

Lingard is tall for a RB, and I think he is a little bigger than his listed weight. Lingard is also very fast, IMO a little faster than Homer and Dallas. Dallas has good instincts as a runner, but I am not sure if that is his permanent position.

Lingard, however, has the athletic ability to make someone miss, slip a tackle and take it to the house. This is the dimension that Walton consistently brought to the position. I think Lingard has that.

I like Burns, but he has not yet proven he can stay healthy. Burns is an athletic freak, but I will not get to thrilled about him until I see that he can stay healthy and learn the position.

Well Fargo employees try and read this blog everyday and have to skim by the same GD slobbering defense of everything posts, as they did when he gagging fatso daily for five straight years while trying to call real bloggers on here out between flounces after losses as they got worse and worse on the scoreboard, while he whined more and more. They're obviously not amused by his shitty attempts at sid-tard talking point distribution either for years and sent him a message to go hang himself for their own enjoyment, time to listen up, GD.

At this rate the recruiting blunder from down under of the basketball team will have his upperclassmen scholarship years rescinded due to pine splinters in his ass. Great news, for the Hurricanes, too bad it took at least two seasons to flush that useless tub of midget crap out of the program however.

Oh yeah, I like what Lingard brings to the table in terms of size. But Homer ain't no slouch either, I like the way He finishes His runs. Frankly, if it wasn't for Homer, we more than likely lose that GT game. And I thought there were a few games where Homer should've gotten more touches...particularly the Wisky game, He only had 12 carries. But I'm defintely lovin' having quality depth at RB again.

CoCane

Windy,

But you're expecting Lingard to start and he has proven nothing.

Homer has already proved he can slip tackles and house it on the college level. So has Dallas. Has Lingard?

Lingard is extremely talented. He can come in and start right away. He's that talented. But...

Homer and Dallas aren't far behind in pure talent either.

From what I've seen, Dallas is the most talented in the stable. He has the frame to reach 215-220. He has good speed, can catch and run routes like a WR and is elusive.

Homer caught the ball nicely this year also. When he gets a crack he is gone.

Homer and Dallas will both be sharper in all aspects of the RB position.

I'm just saying there is too much talent and experience to expect Lingard to start as a frosh just because he's talented.

Walton would've been special this year if he stayed healthy. Don't forget how frustrated we got his first 2 years every time he just ran into the pile. The more the game slowed down with experience, the better his vision got.

Let's see what Lingard can do against college players before we crown him phenom...

Why torture me? You know he would guarantee the Coastal again right? After 2 years, we might be level with Clemson.

Posted by: CoCane | January 18, 2018 at 11:04 AM

You think Dallas should go for that weight though, or should he try and be the leanest & meanest 210 he can be so he can Reggie Bush it and play some WR also?

DeeCane

I'll be at the Ga. Tech game.... hope to see some of u guys there!!!!

CoCane

The people expecting Lingard to start are the same ones that thought Johnson would start a safety as a frosh. Next it was Finley would start at Safety as a frosh. Then, this year Carter was going to come in and start as a frosh. I've already seen posts claiming that a 5'll 175 lb Hall is going to start over all of them.

Oh and Pope at 6'1 175, with no blocking skills and not 1 route run against a college CB will start this year too... Omg

The learning curve is slow as fukk around here

CoCane

He was 200-205 this year as a frosh. He can easily get to a lean chiseled 215-220 and get quicker and faster

Herbieibis

Hope the new signee is a punter. It only took Feagles 13 games to have one good game punting(Wisconsin).

Herbieibis

We have enough xtra ships floating around, with all the departures in the last year to sign another kicker.

CoCane

The expectations for Lingard is the same thinking that everyone had for Perry at QB. Where did that get ya? Hoping a 5* frosh is a phenom is cool optimistim. Expecting it is silly considering the evidence...

Go Canes!!

Think when you have a guy rated as one of the top 5 running backs in the country it’s ok to have different expectations.

Imo it’s the easiest of all the skill position to transition into, as long as his pass blocking is right.

Freshman stats for last three stud RBs under CMR:

Chubb: 219 for 1547 —14 TDs
Gurley: 222 for 1385 —17 TDs
Moreno: 248 for 1334 —14 TDS

Run Lo, run!!!

CoCane

Don't forget to list who they had to beat out to start and their stats the year before...

Go Canes!!

Co in the bigger picture think CMR has shown a super talented, Top 50 caliber back is going to get the ball, a lot.

If the past performance can act as a predictor of the future, Lingard will be the man early, even if he is a freshman.

Some people Ive seen want him to play both WR & RB but I dont think he can do that at 220, maybe Im wrong. I think Id like to see him focus at RB rather than back and forth to WR.

Yeah, I am hoping that we recruit a top-rated JC punter or, at least, an experienced grad transfer. This would enable Feagles to gain some more size, strength and seasoning before he is asked to take over the first string punting duties again.

CaneRock

Regardless you need quality depth at RB.

If UGA doesn't have Michel & Chubb to take over for an injured Gurley in 14', then what?

If UGA doesn't have Michel to take over for an injured Chubb in 15', then what?

Hell if Chubb didn't get hurt in 15', does Richt keep His job?

If Gore doesn't get hurt in the Spring of 02', then we have Him instead of Payton carrying the rock in the Fiesta Bowl and the game doesn't come down to that bull$h!t @$$ PI.

If that happens it maybe good for Miami. Miami is a destination school. Kids may end up somewhere they hate and say, "F That" then decide they rather play in Miami. It might not be a bad thing for us.

Terrance Sullivan

This is a crazy stat that threw me for a loop. Brad Kaaya was sacked 25 times in 2016. Malik Rosier was sacked 27 times in 2017. Both QB's started and played all 13 games in each season. Whoever is the QB in 2018 don't need to get sacked 25 times or more. That's also on the Offensive Line having to get better.

LOL. So true! RB is the one position that a talented freshman can play at a high level immediately. Walton from Booker T. was better than Yearby from Central, even in high school. As a Cane, Walton played better when CMR and Brown arrived, then moved him into the starting lineup ahead of the upper classman, Yearby. Brown and CMR will play the best RB.

His Royal Dudeness

^^^ I dont think Homer is letting Lingard take his job the year he's probably thinking about jumping. We will see.

So Hillview, recruits could sign with $EC school, score their bag money and a sports car, then transfer to the U and enjoy South Beach instead of some brown water lake at Podunk State University....?

His Royal Dudeness

I am very hopeful that Homer & Dallas will keep our young 5* to only about 10-15 carries per game. First I dont believe in our OL yet and second we need him with as few miles as possible for his JR year where he can carry us to a title with *JR Burns and *SO Davis, and at least 3 other 4* RBs in the stable.

His Royal Dudeness

If we can land the AH4 CB turns into a real strong group, that can sort out depth in a hurry.

1. **** SR Jackson
2. **** SO Bandy
3. *** JR Young
4. ***** FR Surtain
5. ***** FR Campbell
6. **** FR Frierson
7. **** FR Ivey

Hopefully Ivey & Frierson would redshirt and contribute a bunch the next year having developed in the slow cooker. Campbell & Surtain would of course jump the guys we have by the end of the season. 2019 would give use a CB group that is young and super talented.

1. ***** SO Surtain
2. ***** SO Campbell
3. **** JR Bandy
4. *** SR Young
5. **** *FR Frierson
6. **** *FR Ivey

Thats a deeeeeep group. Could be the nations best dime package.
