The University of Miami women's basketball team will take on fourth-ranked Louisville Thursday morning at the Watsco Center.
Action is set to tip off at 11 a.m., as Miami (14-6, 4-3 ACC) welcomes local youth to the arena for its second elementary school day of the season.
The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra HERE, as well as carried live on WVUM 90.5 FM HERE. Live stats for the contest will be available HERE.
In conjunction with elementary school day, there will be instructional movement videos led by Miami spirit squad members beginning at 10 a.m. Team posters and schedule cards will be available at the main entrance.
Miami has a 1-3 mark through its four meetings with Louisville, dropping all three outings since the Cardinals joined the ACC. Louisville, which took the last contest, 63-59, at home on Jan. 15, 2017, is the only team the Hurricanes have shared the ACC or BIG EAST with and have not beat in conference play.
The Hurricanes, riding a three-game winning streak, are coming off a dominant defensive performance in a 65-43 triumph Sunday at Boston College. It was the fewest points Miami has ever allowed in an ACC road game and its fewest in any game since Dec. 6, 2016 versus Loyola Chicago.
Redshirt senior guard/forward Shaneese Bailey paced Miami with 12 points, while sophomore guard/forward Sarah Mortensen had a season-high 11 points. Senior forward/center Erykah Davenport became the first Hurricane with three straight double-doubles in five years by notching 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Louisville is 20-1 (6-1 ACC) on the year and is coming off its first loss of the campaign, falling to then-No. 12/11 Florida State, 50-49, Sunday on its home court to snap the longest winning streak in program history.

Katie Meier completed her 12th season at the helm of the Hurricanes’ women’s basketball program in 2016-17. A well-known and respected figure in women’s basketball with 16 years of head coaching experience, Meier has worked tirelessly to put her mark on Miami’s program and to build a winning tradition.
In 2016-17, Meier guided her team to an eighth consecutive postseason, a sixth trip to the NCAA Tournament in the last seven years, and a seventh 20-plus win season in the last eight years, all extending program records. The Hurricanes finished with a 24-9 record, tied for the fifth-most wins in a single campaign in program history, and made the ACC Tournament semifinals for the second straight year.
Following the season, Meier was indcuted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame, becoming the fourth basketball coach, male or female, to garner the prestigious honor.
In January 2014, Meier was named a co-recipient of the 2013 USA Basketball National Coach of the Year award after leading the USA U19 team to a gold medal and perfect 9-0 record at the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship.
All of her hard work was rewarded after the 2010-11 season when she was named the Associated Press National Coach of the Year - sharing the award with Connecticut’s Geno Auriemma and Stanford’s Tara VanDerveer.
That season, Meier led the Hurricanes into the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2004 and their win over Gardner-Webb in the first round was the first tournament win for Miami since 1993. The Canes entered the 2010-11 season with high internal expectations, but were picked eighth in the Preseason ACC Poll after a season in which they were the No. 12 seed in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament.
However, the Hurricanes exceeded all of the outside expectations and, at one point, won 17 straight games. They were a perfect 20-0 inside the BankUnited Center and finished 12-2 in ACC play - earning their first regular season conference title since joining the league in 2004. As a reward, Meier was named the ACC Coach of the Year and later would be selected as the WBCA/RUSSELL ATHLETIC Region 2 Coach of the Year, as voted on by her peers.
For her dedication to the University of Miami and the athletic department, Meier was signed to a two-year contract extension, securing the Wheaton, Ill., native through the 2017-18 season. Prior to the 2014-15 season, Meier received another extension, through the 2020-21 campaign, and donated $75,000 back to the school to go towards women’s athletics as well as challenged to community to contribute as well.
Meier earned another well-deserved extension after a 2016-17 season that included the Hurricanes hosting NCAA Tournament play for the first time since 1993. The new deal added three years to her contract, which now runs through the 2023-24 season.

I think what Go said is that Golden, despite his on the field issues, was able to recruit a solid base of players that Richt could work with. We could have really collapsed in recruiting during 2012 and 2013, but Golden not only kept that intact but greatly improved on what Shannon and Coner had done. That’s all. He should get credit for bringing the Canes into the 21st century in a few off the field ways. The coaching results and turning Chickillo into a zeppelin...that’s another story.

Actually, the rule is just that they have to be a position coach now, as opposed to previously where they could be hired as support staff or recruiting only roles.
Bama interviewed Surtain Sr for DB coach role. They ended up hiring someone else.

Golden hit the absolute floor of Miami recruiting. The Dukes etc in his classes were always Miami, and came in spite of him. He ignored and overlooked Miami caliber guys constantly. The only way he could’ve done any worse is if he purposefully tried to destroy the program.

Honestly, if you put Larry Coker or Randy Shannon back in charge of the Hurricanes in 2012 onwards I think that each would have recruited with less success than Golden. Coker had the benefit of recruiting with a recent NC and successful, title contending teams. Shannon had the benefit of being only a couple of years removed from Miami being a title contender. Remove that success from either of them, then allow them to recruit with Miami being six years + away from being relevant - plus an NCAA investigation - and they simply do worse.
Coker's staff used Rivals as a recruiting guide and could not recruit WRs or QBs. Shannon's relationships with S Florida coaches fell apart during his tenure, and he was left with taking a high number of flyers on 3 and 2 star players in his last class (2010) to fill out his roster.
Golden restored relationships with coaches, began numerous high school camps, and used social media. He was a good salesman - it was his strength. Would a few others (Myers, Saban) have done better? Absolutely. But I think Golden did about as well as many coaches would have given the circumstances. What Coker and Shannon did in regards to recruiting doesn't give me much hope that we would have been pulling in Top 5 classes in 2012 and 2013 with either of them at the helm, let alone the classes that Golden was able to secure.

Posted by: 1mg of Epi | January 24, 2018 at 10:35 PM
Golden was getting class rankings in bottom of the top 20 at best... and that was due to volume. Golden did as bad as possible for Miami, who will get players every year just due to its location and family ties.
Posted by: 1mg of Epi | January 24, 2018 at 10:37 PM
If it was that easy then why did Shannon have a grand total of three commits the day he got fired?
At the end of the day probably 80% of our starters this year were his recruits. He may not have been able to coach a lick on game day, but he kept us afloat during the worst thing we've had since Butch.
Last thing I'll say on this cause it doesn't matter anymore. Last three schools to undergo proloned scrutiny from the NCAA are Baylor, UNC and Ole Miss.
Their records this year were 1-10, 2-9 and 5-6. They had 5 wins combined against Power 5 teams. All three of those teams won their division in the years preceding their investigations.

Sorry Go. Go back and read the reports and quotes from the high school coaches after he was fired.
As far as sheppherding the program thru the sanctions.... that’s bullshit. He was blindsided and tried to leave. Other than that he did what anybody else pulling a multi million dollar salary would... his job. (Poorly but he did it)

Huge win tonight for our Canes over the Cards to go to 15-4. Keep it going Canes. Now need our Women's Canes team to beat the Women's Cards tomorrow afternoon baby.
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | January 24, 2018 at 11:15 PM
To be fair, Golden pulled in 6-8 four star players in 2012 - 2015, each class. That’s not the volume needed to pull on par with FSU, but it was on par with Clemson for much of that time and better than what any other team in the ACC was doing.
To be fair to Shannon, his collapse and job security in 2010 caused his class to fall apart. He had more than 3 players committed, but by the time he left it had fallen apart to just two players. That is less about Shannon and more to the change in coaching.
Both Shannon and Golden took chances with a lot of 3 star players. Look at the 2008 class (Shannon’s best) and you’ll see something like 16 of them are 3 and 2 star guys.

Epi his last year here he had Richards, Quartermann, Picnkey, Jackson, Bethel, Allison, Byrd, Mullins and McCloud committed when he got fired.
Guess I look at the dumpster fires a ton of coaches who have everything going for them leave behind and have a hard time saying it was the worst it could have been. I'll just stick to my previous position of him being the best of our worst.
Doesn't matter anyway.
Everyone knows the future of this program will be determined by whatever decision the two CBs from Heritage make.
